Doris Roberta Anderson Ransom
On Feb. 6, 2004, Doris Roberta Anderson Ransom passed away at home with her husband of 54 years at her side.
Born April 20, 1930, in Seattle, Wash., she moved with her parents, Robert C. and Thelma Anderson, to Burley. She married Don Ransom in 1949 and is survived by their four children and four grandchildren.
While her children were small, Doris worked as a seamstress out of her home to help support her family until becoming a junior high school teacher. In the summer she loved traveling around the state of Idaho following its history and admiring its beauty. She played piano and organ in the Filer Baptist Church. She was a masterful knitter and quilter. She had a terrific sense of color. Doris overcame her fear of computers and the internet she read newspapers across the US everyday.
After retirement she battled lung cancer and won. She quit Bridge cold turkey. She loved being at the log cabin she and her husband built near Soldier Mountain. She supported environmental causes and collected antique and art glass. She liked watching women's basketball and the men's NCAA tournaments. She loved her family, and we are grateful to her for what she has given us to carry through life.
Doris is survived by her husband Don of 54 years; four children, Dianne (Bob) Munson; Debra (Kevin) Egan; Dawna (Dean) Littler; Robert Ransom; and four grandchildren, Bryan Evans; Darcie and Darby Littler; and Kaleb Furgen.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 at White Mortuary 'Chapel by the Park' in Twin Falls. Burial will follow at the MAR Cemetery
in Rupert.
William "Bill" Newcomb
Rupert - William "Bill" Newcomb an 81-year-old Rupert resident passed away Feb. 9, 2004, at his home in Rupert.
Bill was born Feb. 1, 1923, in Cambridge, Neb., the son of Edward and Grace Baker Newcomb. He attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School. Bill served in the United States Air Force from 1942 to 1945.
He married Virginia Danfield March 25, 1951, in Cambridge, Neb. In 1955 they moved to Rupert where he drew a homestead, and farmed until he retired in 1985. Bill was a member of the Rupert United Methodist Church and a member of the Rupert Elks. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and farming. He loved working hard and, being home with his family.
He is survived by his wife Virginia of Rupert; three sons Rocky (Coyeen) Newcomb of Payson, Ariz.; Tom Newcomb of Seattle, Wash.; Ross Gene (Lori) Newcomb of Rupert; seven grandchildren Taja (Dan) Baldwin, Mike Newcomb, Matt Newcomb, Lacey Temple, Colter Blu Temple, Ashley Newcomb, and McKenzey Newcomb;. two great grandchildren Brandon and Kaylee Baldwin. Three brothers Winton (Maxine) Newcomb of Cambridge, Neb. ; Bob (Arlene) Newcomb of Bartley, Neb.; and Ross (Mae) Newcomb of Rupert; one sister Ruby (Bill) Hutcheson of Greeley, Colorado one son-in-law Jerry Temple of Rupert.
He was preceded in death by one daughter Christy Temple.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at the Rupert United Methodist Church with Pastor Keith Wise officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at the Rupert Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to the United Methodist Church Choir Fund, or to Minidoka Home Health & Hospice. The family would also like to thank Minidoka Home Health & Hospice for all the care they gave to Bill and his family.
Funeral services are under the direction of Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel.
Florence W. Kay
Heyburn - Florence W. Kay "Flossie" a 77-year-old Heyburn resident passed away Feb. 5, 2004, at Cassia Regional Medical Center.
Flossie was born April 30, 1926 in Alta, Wyo., the daughter of Willard and Elva Wadell Morgan. She attended schools in Wyoming and graduated from Alta High School.
She married Merlin L. Kay Feb. 12, 1945 in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Before settling in Heyburn Flossie and Merlin traveled around the United States with Tie Oil Rig. She worked for the United States postal service and was the Postmaster in Heyburn for several years. She served on the city council of Heyburn. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities.
She is survived by her husband Merlin of Heyburn; seven children Tim (Holley) Kay of Burley; Robert (Jarqueline) Kay of Burley; Sandie Burbank of Rupert; Gibert Dane (Jan) Kay of Spanish Fork, Utah; Sean (Shirley) Kay of Gilbert, Ariz.; Megan (Mark) Payne of Declo; and Stacey (Julie) Kay of Spanish Fork, Utah; 32 Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren, and one sister Jo (Bill) Wells of Temecula, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents one sister, one brother, a son Merlin Mitchell Kay and one son-in-law Larry Burbank.
Her love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ became the standard by which she lived her life. Her family was her number one love. As a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother her life was an example of service, and selfless devotion to every one around her. Her wonderful sense of humor, and joy of life will be her legacy.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at the Paul LDS Stake Center, 424 W. Ellis. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery
in Heyburn.
Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary Burley Chapel, 321 East Main Street, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund.
ERNESTO F. ALEJANDRO, JR.
BURLEY - Ernesto F. Alejandro, Jr., 60-year-old Burley resident, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at his home in Burley.
He was born July 24, 1943, in Sabinal, Texas, the son of Ernesto Sr. and Elvira Flores Alejandro. He attended school in Texas where he enjoyed playing football. He married Anita Chavez on Dec. 3, 1966, in Burley. Ernesto loved to drive trucks and tend to his rose garden. He also loved playing cards with his sisters on Sunday, even though he always said they never let him win. Ernesto was loved very much and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Anita of Burley; four daughters, Linda (Raul) Vasquez, Lisa Alejandro, and Amanda Pena, all of Burley, and Andrea (Jaime) Torrez of Rupert; a son, Ernesto (Jaime) Alejandro of Burley; a brother, Pete (Geri) Alejandro of Heyburn; six sisters, Alicia (Jose) Chavez of Heyburn, Julia (Rene) Soliz of Rupert, Carmen (Daniel) Pelayo of California, Bertha (Cruz) Pelayo, Guadalupe (Francisco) Arteaga, and, Margarita Robles, all of Burley; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Vigil Service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at the Payne Memorial Chapel, 221 West Main St., Burley, with Father Juan Garatea, presiding.
Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary from 4 p.m. until the time of the Vigil.
Charles Villines
Rupert - Charles Villines "Bubbles" a 79-year-old Rupert resident, passed away January 23, 2004 at Minidoka Memorial Long Term Care.
Charles was born December 19, 1925 in Tunica, Mississippi the son of Jessie & Ardella Villines. His nickname "Bubbles" was given to him by his father as a young Boy. After the death of his mother his father moved the family to California. When he turned 18 in 1943, he joined the United States Army. He took basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was assigned to the 93rd Division of Engineers during World War II. After the war, Bubbles heard that they needed people to pick potatoes in Idaho. He went to work for Anderson Farm in Burley, and several other farms through the years. Bubbles also helped out at the Melody Bar by cleaning up and keeping it stocked with ice.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and most recently watching Television his favorites are westerns, detective stories, Price is Right, and "Wheel of Fortune." Bubbles said he has stayed in Rupert because the people here are friendly. "Everybody here knows me, he said."
He is survived by his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2004 at the Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel with pastor David Graham officiating. Military services will be conducted by the local Veterans in the chapel. Burial will follow at the Rupert Cemetery.
Moselle Stock
Burley - Moselle Baker Stock, 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at the Summerfield Manor in Orem, Utah.
She was born Sept. 23, 1914, in Oakley to Omer L. and Vivian Daly Baker. She grew up in Oakley, Idaho. She was the oldest of five children. She married Merlin Ross Stock on September 28, 1934, in the Salt Lake Temple.
During their married life they lived in Montana, Utah and Idaho. They have lived in Burley, Idaho, for the past 45 years. Moselle passed away 30 days after her sweetheart.
Moselle was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in numerous callings in the church including Relief Society President, Primary President, volunteer at the Genealogical Library, temple worker in the Boise Temple and numerous other callings.
She supported Merlin in his many church and work assignments. Moselle loved her family and enjoyed being part of their lives. She was a wonderful homemaker, seamstress, and cook. Her homemade chocolates were enjoyed by many.
Although her passing is difficult for the family we know that Merlin and Moselle feel joy in being together again. Their family considered them to be true sweethearts.
Moselle is survived by three sons: M. Don (Denece) of West Jordan, Utah, Wayne R. (Janice) of Heber City, Utah, and Hal B. (Janet) of Orem, Utah; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters: Cleo (Les) Piper of Burley, Idaho, and Deon (George) Moncur of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Moselle was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one sister, Margaret (Bob) Shippen; and one brother, Omer D. Baker.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at the Burley Third and Seventh Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2200 Oakley Ave., with Bishop Tracy King officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 East 16th St., Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, at the church.
Betty Louise Shelby
Betty Shelby passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, from complications following surgery for a brain aneurysm.
Betty Louise Nelson Shelby was born in Oakley on March 11, 1930, daughter of Clarence LeRoy Nelson and Ila Vera Poulton Nelson. She was the seventh of eight children. She attended grade school, Junior High and Senior High School in Oakley. She was active in cheerleading. She was a drum majorette and enjoyed drama.
Her father died when she was 12 years old. She helped her mother milk cows and helped on their farm. Betty graduated from Oakley High School in 1948. She married Dale L. Shelby on June 7, 1948, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had five children: Dian Shelby, Coeur d'Alene; Darla Hall (deceased) of Boise; Mark (Jan) Shelby, Spokane; Wash., Suzi (Jim) Stanger, Helena, Mont.; Joe (Amber) Shelby, American Fork, Utah.
Betty and Dale Shelby operated supermarkets, car washes, coin-operated laundry mats and ranches in the Twin Falls, Burley and Buhl areas. They lived the majority of their lives in southern and eastern Idaho, and the last 10 years in Farmington, Utah.
Betty was an extremely loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She spent her life in the service of her family and others. She was a lifelong member of the LDS Church, serving in Ward and Stake Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society leadership. She had a strong and abiding faith in Heavenly Father, and communicated that in every facet of her life. We love and honor her and appreciate her commitment to her family.
Betty is survived by her husband Dale, of Farmington, Utah; her sister Bea Smith of Burley; brother Robert (Claudia) Nelson of Boise; Carol (LaDell) Handy of Glenns Ferry; their four children, fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at the Farmington 20th Ward building, 1885 North Summerwood Drive. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Church. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. at the Oakley Cemetery, Oakley.
