CLOYD D. TAYLOR
BURLEY - Cloyd Derlin Taylor, 76-year-old Burley resident, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at his home in Burley, following a two year battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 31, 1927, in Burley, the son of Alex Ursel and Rhoda Hammon Taylor. Cloyd spent his entire life in Burley, graduating from Burley High School in 1946. While still a senior in high school, he worked for the Burley Fire Department and also for his future father-in-law at Price's Drive Inn. He married his high school sweetheart, Maxine Price on Oct.22, 1946, in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Cloyd worked for the fire department and also the Greyhound Bus Depot after they got married. He later went to work for the Cardinal Food Market in Burley and for a short time in Aberdeen. Cloyd then went to barber school in Boise and went to work for Smooch Mecham at the Barber Center and later purchased the business. In 1963, Cloyd bought Price's Café from his father-in-law, Gene Price. He owned and operated the business until his retirement in 1993.
Cloyd served two terms on the Burley City Council and spent his lifetime working with the Boy Scouts of America. He served as council president in the Snake River Area Council and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope awards. He worked with several national jamborees and was well-known for his fund-raising abilities. He was not only a leader in the community, but in his church, serving in two bishoprics and in many other callings. His greatest love was working with boys and with his family helping them develop their skills. His influence on the youth of our community is endless.
Cloyd is survived by his wife, Maxine; their four children, Cheryl (Ray) Koyle, Derlin (Nancy) Taylor, Russel (Debbie) Taylor, and Brad Taylor; a brother, V. LaVar Taylor; 20 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and extended family, A. Stuart (Therryl) Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Alex Taylor, Arlan Taylor, Frank Taylor, and Lyle Taylor; and a sister, Noreen Klein.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at the Burley 3rd and 7th Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2200 Oakley Ave., with Bishop Boyd Baggett officiating. Burial will follow in the Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley.
Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary, 221 West Main St., in Burley on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Tuesday.

Cleo B. Piper
Cleo Baker Piper, 86, of Burley, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2004, at her home.
She was born Feb. 17, 1918, in Oakley, the daughter of Omer and Vivian Daly Baker. She married Lester H. Piper on Sept. 2, 1939, in Farmington, Utah.
Cleo worked at First Federal Savings and Loan of Burley for many years. She was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by her husband, Lester Piper of Burley; two daughters, Sharon (Jay) Black of Almo, and Rene' (Ferril) King of Heyburn; one sister, Deon (George) Moncur of Idaho Falls; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Margaret Shippen and Moselle Stock; and one brother, Omer Dee Baker.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at the Burley Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2050 Normal Ave., with Bishop Michael E. James officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Thursday, at the church.
Charlotte Sarah Peterson
Charlotte Sarah Peterson, a 89 -year-old Burley resident, passed away, May 31, 2004 at the Mountain View Care Center in Kimberly.
Charlotte was born Aug. 29, 1914, in Plain City, Utah, the daughter of Charles William and Charlotte Sheppard Surrage. When she was young her family moved to Heyburn where she was raised. She graduated from Heyburn High School.
She married Algot Peterson Nov. 2, 1933 in Heyburn this union was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1958. After her marriage she moved south of Burley in the Pella area where she helped her husband on the family farm. Later in her life she lived with her daughter in Kimberly. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various callings in the church organizations, including many years in the nursery in the Pella and Star Wards. She also enjoyed attending the temple, doing genealogy, and working in the genealogy Library. Charlotte was very talented in her quilting, crocheting, hand work, tatting and crafts.
She is survived by her eight children LaVon Coltrin of Burley; Charles (Sherry) Peterson of Heyburn; Arnold (Sherryl) Peterson of Burley; Leon (Kay) Peterson of Malta; Dorene (Bob) Stephenson of Kimberly; Don (Kay) Peterson of Heyburn; Edith (Sid) Brisbin of Burley; and Kem (Tara) Peterson of Burley; 40 grandchildren and 59 great grandchildren and more expected; sixsisters Irene Phillips, Melba McCombs, Genevieve (Heber) Hellewell, Charlene Cooper, Ordema Knobel and Viginia Caldwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband Algot, two grandsons, two great grandsons, her parents, one brother John Elsberry; and one son-in-law Edward Coltrin.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the Pella LDS Church 400 South 160 West of Burley, with Bishop Thomas Garrard officiating. Friend may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary Burley Chapel and one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday at the church.
The family suggests donations be made to the Primary Children's Hospital.
Larry 'Dale' McPherson
Larry 'Dale' McPherson, 56, of Las Vegas, Nev., passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 27, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dale was the son of DeWayne and LaPreal McPherson.
He is survived by mother LaPreal; brother, James; sisters, Sharon and Marsha; children Lorna, Loren, Celin, Herman, and Jonathan; grandchildren T.C. Kellen, Jasmine, Samantha, and Grayson.
A come and go memorial will be held at the Operating Engineers Local #3 Union Hall, located at 1958 West North Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday, May 29, 2004, between 1 and 3 p.m.

Karol Hatch
Karol Hatch passed away at her home on May 31, 2004, from cancer.
Karol was born Dec. 20, 1953, in Burley to Elton Given and Zelma Orton Hatch. She was the youngest of seven children. She married Gregory M. Kerr July 17, 1975, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were later divorced.
Karol was a member of the LDS church and held many positions as a teacher and leader. She was a Relief Society teacher at the time of her death. Karol will be remembered for her courage, work ethic, integrity, sense of humor and most of all, for unconditional love for her family and the Lord. Her life is a legacy of faith to her family.
She is survived by her children, Karlin (Jason) Kessler, Jacob Spori, Trevor Marion, G. Brady serving in Washington Kennewick LDS Mission, Baylee and Griffin McKay Kerr. Preceded in death by her son Robert Elton Kerr and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, at the Taylorsville 43rd Ward 3120 W. 4700 So. West Valley City, Utah, where friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Friday morning from 9 to 9:45 a.m.
Interment will be in the View Cemetery, View, dedication at 4 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Broomhead Funeral Home Riverton, Utah.

Viola Mae Cunningham
Viola Mae Cunningham, 81- year-old former Albion resident, died May 23, 2004, at the Gooding Rehabilitation & Living Center in Gooding.
Viola was born Sept. 10, 1922, to Lydia Crowe Anderson in Broken Bow, Neb. She was raised and loved by Charlie and Blanch Klusman. She married Don Cunningham March 20, 1940, in Rupert. They were later sealed in the LDS Temple March 4, 1964.
She is survived by her children Von (LaVon) Cunningham, Albion, Lila (Darwin) Knopp, Glenns Ferry, Donna Cunningham, Gooding, Debbie Harrell, Elko, Nev.; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; several great-great- grandchildren; four sisters, Helen (Major) Gates, Hastenings, Neb., Virginia Chambers, Paul, Pat (Marvin) Titus, Wendell, Linda (Bruno) Chapa, Jerome; brother-in-law Keith (Rachel) Cunningham, Twin Falls, and many special friends.
She was preceded in death her husband Don in 1986, her parents, and a sister LaVetta Baker.
Funeral services will be held 11a.m. Friday May 28, 2004, at the Albion LDS Church with Bishop Kay Powell officiating. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary Burley Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at the View Cemetery
in Burley.
CLARENCE L. BARKES
Clarence Lyle Barkes, 87-year-old Burley resident died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at the Cassia Memorial Hospital in Burley.
He was born Dec. 28, 1916, in Sarles, N.D., the son of Charles and Susanah Murray Barkes. Clarence started working for Glen Briggs at the age of 14 and became foreman at 21. He married Bessie Inez Randell on August 19, 1939. Their marriage was later soleminezed in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Clarence purchased his own farm in 1964, which he worked for 30 years. He also served as Highway Commissioner for 24 years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; where he served in various capacities. He loved playing softball as a young man, was an avid bowler, and enjoyed golf and playing pool in his later years. His most favorite pastime was talking with family and friends and watching his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Bessie Barkes of Burley; four children, Stanley Lyle (Dixie) Barkes of Burley, Stacy Charles Barkes (deceased), Kathy Sue (Larry) Adams of Murtaugh, and Rebecca Ann Barkes of Park City, Utah; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at the Pella 1st & 2nd Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 400 S. 160 W. of Burley, with Bishop Alfred E. Barrus, officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls.
