Phyllis June Lowder Knight Simpson
RUPERT - Phyllis June Lowder Knight Simpson, 84, of Rupert, passed away March 27, 2005 at Minidoka Memorial Hospital.
June was born Dec. 22, 1920, in Rupert, to Joseph William and Amelia Lucille Lowder. She married Harold William Knight who passed away. She married Ray Simpson on Jan 12, 1988.
June worked in several area businesses. In her later years she became a member of the World Wide Church of God. She loved to dance and loved music and did various crafts. Most of all, she loved her family.
June is survived by her children, Harold W. Knight Jr. of Rupert, Robert Lee Knight of Rupert, Carma J. Buel of Nampa, and RaNae James of Boise; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sisters, Thelda Gransberry of Heyburn and Ilene Sibbett of Sacramento, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold W. Knight, second husband, Ray Simpson; father, Joseph W. Lowder; mother, Amelia Lowder Gibby; brothers, Jack Lowder and Odell Lowder; and sisters, Esther Broadbeck and Orla Coffman.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2005, at Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel, 710 6th St. Burial will be at a later date at the Rupert Cemetery. A viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Mortuary.
PATRICIA POWELL
SODA SPRINGS - Finally after 22 years, Patt Powell's body gave up the fight of life to join her spirit that left this world in March 1983.
She was born in Burley, the only child of Wesley D. and Serena Robins Taylor. Patt married Keith H. (Skeeter) Powell in 1948. Together they have six children: TK (Debbie), Dean, Merg (Tim), Bill, LouAnne (Tony) and Pooch (Donny), 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Patt was a good, true friend and loving mother. She was always running to someone's rescue and taking trips with her friends. Patt enjoyed knitting gifts which she gave to her friends and family; many still have treasured pieces of her work. She loved playing backgammon, Yahtzee, cards and especially arrowhead hunting in Henry. Her door was always open; everyone knew they could just drop by and Patt would have a cup of coffee or a cocktail along with a piece of her famous sheepherder-Dutch oven bread ready and waiting.
A special thanks to the staff at the Caribou Memorial Living Center for their many years of support and loving care.

A Memorial service will be held at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs on Friday, April 1 at 1 p.m. The family will greet friends Friday from 11:30 until services. Cremation services were held March 29, 2005.
Luis Idalgo Martinez
RUPERT - Luis Idalgo Martinez, a 76-year-old Rupert resident, passed away March 26, 2005, at his home.
Luis was born July 14, 1928 in Petaca, N.M., to Luis Sr. and Cleafer Ruybal Martinez. He served in the United States Army during World War II . He worked for Feeders Grain until 1986. Luis was a wonderful father and grandfather he loved being with his children and grandchildren. He was especially proud of his grandson he raised Jose Ortega. Luis enjoyed fishing, hunting, his dog Brownie, and mowing lawns with his John Deere riding lawn mower.
He is survived by his children, Manuel (Helen) Trujillo of Acequia; Lita (Mike) Benavides of Nampa; Albert (Maria) Ortega of Boise; Jose (Angelita) Ortega of Rupert; Clarita (Allen) Piper of Rupert; Jose Ortega III of Rupert; JoAnn (Roger) Runstrom of Bullhead City, AZ; 37 grandchildren and Numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents two brother, three sisters, and by his companion of 38 years, Odilia Ortega.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2005 at the Grace Community Church 100 North Meridain in Rupert with Pastor Jay Greenwalt, officiating. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. The burial will follow at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery
in Boise 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2005.
Jimmy Ray Ingalls
Jimmy Ray Ingalls, 69, died March 22, 2005 peacefully at Valley Vista Care Center, Rupert.
Jimmy was born Dec. 29, 1935, in Ely, Nev., to Lyle and Nevada (Giusti) Ingalls.
He was raised in Hawthorne, Nev., until 1969 and lived in Spencer, Ind., until he came to Rupert to be close to family.
He was a member of the Methodist church in Indiana for 30 years without missing a Sunday. He loved going to church and hearing the word of God, and singing about Him. The old songs were his favorite.
He was an avid shopper, he loved going to yard sales, DI, Youth Ranch, and any where he could find stuff to buy. He loved being with family and friends, of whom there were many. And all who knew him loved him, because he loved everyone. He loved the parties, dancing, camping, and fried chicken with potatoes and gravy.
He is survived by two brothers, Danny (Joanne) Harris of Twin Falls, and Leonard (Cathy) Ingalls of Rupert, a sister, Lilly M. Casteel of Stanton, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews; and friends galore everywhere.
He was preceded in death by his mother; stepfather; father; sister; and a brother in law.
Services will be Friday, March 25, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel, 710 6th St. Burial will be at the Rupert Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services.
The family wishes to thank the Staff and all the residents of Valley Vista, MDC of Burley, Independent Growth, and all those who showed him love on his camping trips.
He was so special to so many and you were so very special to him "THANK YOU"
Josephine "Jo" Hillis
RUPERT - Josephine "Jo" Hillis, 84-year-old Rupert resident, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Minidoka Memorial Hospital.
Jo was born Aug. 12, 1920, in Shreveport, La., the daughter of Guy W. And Lavonia Mertz. She received her education in Shreveport. She worked for the Caddo Parish Department of Public Welfare in Shreveport and the supply depot at Barksdale Field Air Force Base in Bossier City, La. She married Edward F. Hillis on March 14, 1947, in the Barksdale Air Force Base Chapel.
Jo worked part-time for the Minidoka County News in Rupert, served as clerk for the Minidoka Soil & Water Conservation District and worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in both Rupert and Burley. She served one term as Minidoka County Commissioner and also served on the County Planning and Zoning Commission. She was a group leader and council officer of the Camp Fire Girls, supervisor with the Minidoka Soil and Water Conservation District, and held various offices in the Rupert United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; two daughters, Jo Anne Frederiksen of Rupert and Joyce Orem of Idaho City; one granddaughter, Leslie Frederiksen and her fiancé, Nick Harvey of Nampa; and one niece, Billie Barnhardt of Pensacola, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2005 at the Rupert United Methodist Church, 605 H St. with Pastor Keith Wise officiating. Burial will follow at the Rupert Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2005 at Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel, 710 6th St.
GLADYS SLOAN HEAD
Gladys Sloan Head, 92, of Bellevue, died early Tuesday March 29, 2005, at the Minidoka Hospital Extended Care Facility in Rupert.
Gladys was born Aug. 23, 1912, in Clinchport, Va., to Ray and Clara (Kindle) Sloan. The eldest of eight children, Gladys grew up helping raise her seven younger brothers and sisters in rural Virginia. Gladys was baptized in the Clinch River as a young girl and often reminisced of those early years in Virginia.
She married Dewey Head on June 30, 1928 near Clinchport, Va. For several years after their marriage, Dewey would travel to Idaho to herd sheep during the summer months in the Wood River Valley and return to Virginia in the fall. In 1937 Dewey and Gladys and their two sons, Ray and John moved to Bellevue.
Gladys worked as cook for the hot lunch program in the Bellevue schools for a number of years as well as helping out friends and neighbors as a care giver periodically. Following the death of her husband Dewey on June 21, 1975, Gladys remained living in the old house on Main Street in Bellevue where for many years it was the "pit stop" for a bite to eat and quick visit for grandkids and many friends and family on their journey to or from Sun Valley or the Sawtooth Valley.
Her health required her to move to assisted living in 2002. Since September 2004 she has been a resident at the Minidoka Hospital Extended Care unit in Rupert.
"Granny" as all of her grandchildren and many extended family lovingly called her is survived by two sons; Ray T. (Gerry) Head of Pocatello, and John H. (Elaine) Head of Rupert; three brothers, O.H. Sloan, Charles Sloan, and Hubert Sloan all of Scott County Va.; two sisters, Nadine Wilson of Twin Falls and Lucy Jane Johnson of Edgewood, Md.; seven grandchildren, Karen Head of Salt Lake City, John M. (Lori) Head of Pocatello, Kevin Head of American Falls, Robert "Bob" (Kelly) Head of Boise, Kenny Head of Pocatello, David (Ginger) Head of Eagle, and Kris (Lorena) Head of Garden Grove, Calif.; five great grandchildren, Alex and Lacey Head of Pocatello, Tyler Head of Pocatello, Katee and Hailey Head of Eagle, and numerous nieces and nephews including Bill (Connie) Aitken of Bellevue, and Sheila (Doug) Starnes of Newdale.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dewey, a sister Ida Bess Barrett, and a brother Thomas Sloan.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the Bellevue Community Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church. The family suggests memorials in memory of Gladys be made to Minidoka Hospital Extended Care. Contributions may be mailed to Reynolds Funeral Chapel P.O. Box 1142 Twin Falls, ID 83303 or left with funeral chapel staff at the services.
Edna Gillette
PAUL - Edna Gillette, loving mother of LaMar Gillette, Renae Renz, and LuDean Warren, returned to her father and the open arms of her loved ones on March 29, 2005.
Edna, the daughter of Royal James and Mary Ann Rowley, was born on Nov. 28, 1917, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. As the eighth child in a family of ten children, she grew up and attended school in Shelley, Idaho. At the age of 16, Edna left her home in Shelley, where she moved to Idaho Falls, and after marriage, moved to the Minidoka area where she lived the rest of her life.
Edna married Ellis Gillette, the love of her life, on June 5, 1938, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. "It was love at first sight," was the detail given by Edna whenever she reminisced about their first meeting. Edna and Ellis were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and their love was renewed when they were sealed in the temple on Sept. 15, 1982. Edna and Ellis were married for 57 years. Their lives were parted when Ellis passed on March 8, 1996.
As Edna continued through life, she found a renewed sense of faith in the Baptist Church. She was baptized on Easter Sunday in 2001, and cherished her faith to her final day.
Her role as a mother and grandmother was of the highest importance in Edna's life. Edna has three children, 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Her devotion and love for her children and family was seen in every decision she made. Her family cherishes this most about her and wants her to know that it was her role as the matriarch of the family that has guided them to be the loving and devoted parents they are today.
Edna was also extremely involved in community service. Throughout her life, Edna served for 16 years as a member of the Pink Ladies Quilting Committee. She donated her time to the Red Cross, participating in countless blood drives. Edna was a leader of 4-H clubs and was active in the PTA. Even as recently as the past three years, Edna was an active member of the Home Extension Club.
Edna loved crafts and, throughout her life, excelled at many hobbies. She was an amazing cook, an avid Kewpie collector, and loved playing games, crocheting, gardening, and watching television, especially Perry Mason and Lawrence Welk.
Edna has been preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers and sisters; her husband, Ellis Gillette; and her great-granddaughter, Kaylyn Renae Renz.
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2005, at the Paul First Baptist Church, 25 North 4th Street East, with Pastor John Ziulkowski officiating. Burial will be in Paul Cemetery.
Friends, family, and loved ones are also encouraged to attend a viewing from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 East 16th Street, Burley, and from 10 until 10: 45 a.m. Monday at the church.
Porfirio M. Fuentes, Sr.
BURLEY - Porfirio M. Fuentes, Sr., 77 year old Burley resident died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at the L.D.S. Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born September 30, 1927, in Alamo, Texas, the son of Alvarado and Matilde Martinez Fuentes.
He married Elisa Riojas on November 8, 1950, in Ottawa, Ohio.
Porfirio had worked at Amalgamated Sugar Company.
He was a member of the Catholic Church.
He loved fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
