Robert G. Moncur
Robert Glen Moncur, an 88-year-old resident of Burley, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at the home of his daughter, Sharon Harrison in Burley.
He was born Oct. 17, 1916, in Burley, the son of Heber and Louise Jolley Moncur.
He received his education at the View School.
He then served in the United States Army during World War II.
He married Nellie Doerflinger on Jan. 26, 1941, in Burley.
Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on Dec. 15, 1954.
To this union was born a son, Robert M. Moncur. Nellie passed away on Dec. 23, 1957.
On March 24, 1960, Robert married Ruth Haycock Koyle in Burley, and gained five daughters and one son.
They had a happy and wonderful marriage together until her passing on Jan. 8, 2000.
Robert farmed at Willow Creek for more than 22 years and also was employed at Burley Irrigation District until retirement.
Following retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and joy riding in his pickup.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was a faithful home teacher, served several years at the Family History Center and at the time of death was a High Priest.
He is survived by his children, Robert M. (Kathy) Moncur of Burley, Arlene (Arland) Olson of Rupert, Mary (Delano) Greener, Sharon (Dwayne) Harrison, and Jeanne (Reuben) Bronson all of Burley, Elda (Wayne) Mullen of Oakley, and Don (Danna) Koyle of Garland, Utah; 36 grandchildren; 87 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Robert was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; three sisters; one daughter; a son-in-law; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Unity First and Second Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 275 S. 250 E., Burley, with Bishop Lonnie Downs officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, and from noon until 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Alex Mai
Alex Mai, a 94-year-old resident of Burley, peacefully passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at his residence, the Warren House, in Burley.
He was born Dec. 10, 1909, in Ft. Collins, Colorado, one of 12 children to John and Amalie Schlager Mai.
They moved to Montana, when Alex was an infant and then to Idaho, in 1911.
Alex married Jean Hanson of Burley, on Jan. 1, 1939, at the stroke of midnight, and they were declared "Idaho's first couple to marry in the year 1939." They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last January. From this union came six children: five sons; and one daughter.
As a young man, Alex was an avid outdoorsman and loved Idaho's "wide open spaces." He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping coyotes.
In later years, he became a wonderful father, successful farmer, and well-known cattleman.
His real passion and favorite topic of discussion was his registered herd of Polled Shorthorn Cattle.
In 1989, Alex and Jean moved to Hazelton, for semi-retirement, but returned to Burley, in 1999.
Survivors include four sons, Larry Mai of Burley, Phillip (Verna) Mai of Burley, Blaine (Renee) Mai of Twin Falls, and Kelly (Loretta) Mai of Hazelton; one daughter, Julie (Rich) Vegel of Paradise, California; a daughter-in-law, Holly Mai of Burley; three sisters, Freida Manning of Oakley, Clara Pitts of American Fork, Utah, and Rosie Williamson of Burley; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean, who died on April 12, 2004; his son, Leon Mai; a grandson, Scot Mai; a daughter-in-law, Elda Mai; and eight siblings.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at Burley First Christian Church, 1401 Oakley Ave., with the Rev. Herb C. Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in Paul Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church.
The family suggests memorials be directed to the Magic Valley Cattleman's Association in care of Rasmussen Funeral Home, Burley.
Jim Emery
IDAHO FALLS - James "Jim" Boyd Emery, 59, lifetime resident of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully at his home from a rapidly progressing lung disease.
He was born May 14, 1945, to James Boyd Emery and Velma Leona Rhoades Emery in Idaho Falls.
Jim grew up in Idaho Falls and graduated from Bonneville High School.
On April 16, 1965, he married Janaye Elaine Durtschi.
Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was very giving of his time and possessions.
He will be greatly missed by all.
His five grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, will miss going "bumming," to gun shows, fishing, 4-wheeling, out to breakfast, or just sitting up to the counter for a cookie.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Jim served in the electrical field throughout his life working as a journeyman and was a member of the IBEW for 30 years and taught electrical theory for the electrical apprenticeship program.
He also owned Electri-Con Incorporated and later worked for Wasatch Electric as a project manager.
He was a 25-year member of the Idaho Falls Russets Lions Club, where he held every office, and was honored to receive the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, 4-wheeling, family and friends.
He inherited the gift of cooking and entertaining from his mother.
He looked forward to sharing good times with good friends and indulging in great food.
Jim loved life and was blessed with many great friends.
He had a great love for the outdoors, and enjoyed sharing fond memories of hunting and fishing adventures.
If he didn't have an exciting story to tell, he could always entertain you with a good joke.
Survivors include his wife, Janaye of Idaho Falls; daughters, Danaye (Tim) Eaton, Missie (Shawn) Biggs, and Alison (Clint) Keele all of Idaho Falls; five grandchildren; brothers, Dennis (Shelley) Emery of Provo, Utah; Bob (Cathy) Emery of Idaho Falls, John (Nola) Emery of Pleasant Grove, Utah; and sister, Anet (Randy) Bargelt of Scotland. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge in Idaho Falls, with Randy Hurley officiating.
The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, at Wood Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
Burial will be in the Ucon Cemetery.
Alice Metts
Alice Metts, an 82-year-old resident of Burley, died April 6, 2005, at Highland Estates.
Alice was born January 24, 1923, at Stone, Idaho, to Hugh and Rosetta Clark.
She married Robert Metts on December 21, 1950.
They raised five children. Alice was a hard worker and helped provide for her family.
She retired from the South Idaho Press as a darkroom technician.
She loved to garden and took pride in her beautiful yard.
She enjoyed making quilts and afghans for her children and grand children.
She blessed us all with her wonderful sense of humor and she will be greatly missed.
We find comfort in knowing that she is reunited with loved ones.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Trudy Bennett of Camarillo, California, Vicki Andrew of Meridian, Idaho, and Becky Larson of Burley, Idaho; three sisters, Faa Casper, Arba Gibson, and Bonnie Schenk; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Her husband Robert, two sons, David and Chris, her parents, one brother, Hugh, and one sister, Rosie, preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley.
Urn placement will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery.
LAMAR CORNELL ANDERSON
Lamar Cornell Anderson, 71- year-old Burley resident, died Thursday, March 10, 2005 at his home in Burley.
He was born Oct. 17, 1933, in Mendon, Utah, the son of Sylvester C. and Arlene Larsen Anderson.
Lamar served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He married Sharon Call on Oct. 21, 1955, in the Logan Temple.
Lamar received his Bachelor Degree in accounting from Utah State University.
After graduating from college Lamar and Sharon moved to Burley and started a family and an accounting business.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as a Bishop, Bishop's Counselor, on the High Council, Webelo and Explorer Leader and many other callings. He enjoyed spending time with his horses and with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon of Burley; three sons, Dale (Julie) Anderson of North Ogden, Utah, Alan (Linda) Anderson of Burley, Lynn (Debbie) Anderson of Troy, Ill.; four brothers, Rodney, Clark, Milton and Arlo; and three sisters, LaRene Keller, Lorna Egglestone, and Dora Johnson; seven grandchildren; and two great grand grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2005, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Star Second Ward Chapel, 100 South 200 West in Burley with Bishop G. Chad Jones officiating.
Burial will be in the Millville, Utah Cemetery
on Monday at 3 p.m.
Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary, 221 West Main Street in Burley on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. prior to the funeral on Monday.
Katherine Irene Wymer
RUPERT - Katherine Irene Wymer, 49, of Rupert / Jackson area passed away Wednesday March 23, 2005 at her home due to many long term health problems.
She was born May 24, 1955, in California to William and Betty Webb.
She enjoyed many things going to church and being with friends their she also enjoyed working with ceramics, indoor gardening and she loved to collect gem stones.
Katherine is preceded in death by her mother Betty.
She is survived by her father William; her husband Tom D. Wymer; her three sons Billy, Tony and David Fullmer; one granddaughter Rose Irene Fullmer whom she loved to spend time with; two brothers Bob and Randy Webb and her sister Carrie.
Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday March 26, 2005, at the Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel with Pastor Dan Lovelace officiating.
Willard Earl White
Willard Earl White passed away Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Burley Care Center.
Willard was born to Laura Edna Brizee and Charles Theron White April 29, 1910, in Bisbee, Ariz.
He was married to Lois Charlotte Day, deceased. He had two children, Jean White Walton of Greenwood, Ind., and Earl (Sandy) White of Heyburn.
He had 11 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
His brothers and sisters included Roy C. White, deceased; Edna Tilley, Twin Falls; Ella Payne, deceased; Norman (Geneva) Lee, Heyburn; Idella (Wilford) Wilcox, deceased; Myrtle (Bill, deceased) Hellewell, Heyburn; Grace (Mont) Lewis, Pocatello; Elsie (Cecil) Grow, Boise; and Gaylon Arlo (Connie) Lee, West Point, Utah.
Services will be held at Payne Mortuary in Burley.
A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 4, with services following at 11 a.m.
Internment will be at the Heyburn Cemetery.
A no-host lunch will be held following the burial service at Price's Cafe in Burley.
