Martha Montoya
Heyburn-Martha Montoya, a 36-year-old Burley resident, passed away March 31, 2006, at Cassia Medical Center.
She was born in Price, Utah, on Feb. 21, 1970 to Ina Mae Hunt Montoya and Charles Gilbert Montoya. She lived in Salt Lake City, Murray, Granger, Richfield and Magna and attended elementary school there and Junior High in Richfield and then the family moved to Heyburn in 1983 where she attended high school. She then went on to get her high school diploma and then attended CSI.
Martha is a member of the Catholic Church and has been working as a waitress. Martha enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, crocheting, needlework, camping and spending time with her children.
Martha is survived by her three lovely children; Thomas Wayne Montoya, Kari Mae Birch and Kyle Jay Montoya; one grandchild, Kira Mae Birch; two brothers Michael Earl Montoya and David Gilbert Montoya; two sisters Lynn Montoya and Ina Marie Montoya, and her grandmother Donna Marie Hunt.
She is preceded in death by her mother Ina Mae Montoya, and Grandfather Earl J. Hunt.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at the Heyburn LDS First Ward Chapel with Bishop Frank Peterson officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Mortuary Burley Chapel.
Richard Dale Maggard
RUPERT - Richard Dale Maggard, 71, of Rupert, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2006 in Rupert.
Richard was born June 24, 1934, in Westfield, Oklahoma to Floyd and Georgia Maggard. He married Arlynn Spillman Feb. 14, 1958, in Caldwell. They moved to Rupert in 1971.
He graduated from Marsing High School and attended the University of Idaho and College of Idaho where he played football and was drafted by the Green Bay Packers. Richard belonged to the Elks, Kiwanis, and the Rupert Country Club. He attended most of the Minico High School boys and girls ball games and he always sat in his favorite spot with his friends. He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, driving his pickup, and drinking coffee with his buddies at Cathy's Café.
Rich never knew a stranger. He was always smiling and giving a kind word. He enjoyed life and loved being around people.
Richard is survived by his wife, Arlynn of Rupert; his children, Richard Lynn (Ann) Maggard of Boise, Melanie (Rick) Holmes of Rupert, Scott Maggard of Los Angeles, and Nicole (Martin) Delgado of Middleton; eight grandchildren; and brother, Wayne (Nadine) Maggard of Caldwell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Uvon.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006, at the First Christian Church in Rupert, 1110 8th St., with Pastor David Graham officiating. Burial will follow at the Rupert Cemetery.
A viewing for family and friends will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel, 710 6th St., and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
Wayne Keller
Rupert - Wayne Alfred Keller, a 76-year-old resident of Rupert, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2006, in St. George, Utah.
He was born June 27, 1929, in Menan, the son of Alfred C and Roberta Maynard Keller. He attended school at Midway High School in Lewisville, graduating in 1948. While in school, Wayne participated in football and basketball. Following graduation, he farmed with his father in Menan.
On Oct. 13, 1950, Wayne married his high school sweetheart, Yvonne Lawson, in Annis. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Wayne served in the military after being drafted into the United States Army in 1950. He was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, and Fort Hood, Texas. During his service time, their first child, Roland, was born. Upon his honorable discharge, Wayne returned to Menan, and continued farming with his father. Wayne and Yvonne's remaining children were born during this time: Tamara, Roger, and Janet.
In 1962, Wayne, his father, and brothers, began a farming operation at Blue Gulch in the Castleford area. They cleared the land and developed and installed an irrigation system for the farm. Wayne took great pride in this venture. During this time, his family remained in Eastern Idaho, until 1964, when they all moved to Castleford. Wayne and Yvonne relocated to Rupert in 1976, where he operated a custom farming business. Following complications from back surgery in 1985, it was required that Wayne stop working. The blessing in this, was it allowed him to spend more time with his family.
His greatest joy came from family activities. Wayne loved to have his children and grandchildren around him. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, and boating with his family. Retirement also allowed Wayne and Yvonne to spend time in St. George, Utah. He always looked forward to the warm weather and the activities and hobbies he engaged in while in St. George. Due to health concerns, he did not know whether he would be able to make the trip this year, but with assistance of his family he did get to make one final trip. He passed away in a place he loved with family members with him.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Yvonne of Rupert; his children, Roland (Deborah) Keller of Malad, Tamara (Kim) Herzinger of Twin Falls, Roger (Kristin) Keller of Kimberly, and Janet (Brad) Cooper of Rupert; one brother, Alvin (Alice) Keller of Quartzsite, Arizona; one sister, Ruth (Max) Groom of Rigby; 15 grandchildren, Johanna, Jared, Courtney, Tiffany, Joslyn, Ashlee, Jenna, Amanda, Cody, Christopher, Jordan, Brady, Bailey, Brandon, and Chance; and 13 great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly and who provided him with countless hours of joy and love.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Roy and Ray who died in infancy, and John Keller; and one sister, Vera Nielsen.
As a husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa he will be missed very much, but we will always be blessed by the impact that he had on our lives.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2006, at the Rupert West Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 26 S. 100 W. with Bishop Roger Bagley officiating. Burial will be in Paul Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the Mini-Cassia Veterans.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Donald John Jensen
Caldwell - Donald John Jensen, 85, of Caldwell passed away March 29, 2006, in Caldwell after a lengthy illness.
There will be a viewing Monday April 3 in Caldwell, ID., starting 9 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12th and Everett building. The service will follow at 11 a.m. under the direction of Bishop Dan Kener of the Caldwell First Ward. Burial will be at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens in Boise. Services are under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel, Meridian.
Don was born January 11, 1921, to Vera Mitton and Leslie Croft in Burley, Idaho, the second of four children. His mother later married Lee Jensen who Don referred to as his father.
Don enlisted in the US Marine Corps in October of 1940 and was selected to serve on Admiral Nimitz' staff. Don was proud to serve his country and spoke of his service with the Marines as a positive experience.
Don married his eternal sweetheart Vena Lue Gorringe September 30, 1945, in San Francisco. Their union was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they had eight children and enjoyed each others company to the end. They served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Family History Center located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Don is survived by seven children, Lonny (Ginnie) Jensen of Spokane, WA, Boyd (Ladell) Jensen of Brigham City, UT, Irene (Ron) Grames of Boise, Connie (Joe) Bunt of Boise, Peggy (Tom) Pranger of Buckley, WA, Kristine (Morris) Grigg of Eagle and Lisa (Albert) Erickson of Caldwell; one sister Maxine Jensen of Boise; a brother Roy Jensen of Rupert; 37 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Vena, his parents, a brother Boyd, and a son David John Jensen.

Wendell K. Croft
Heyburn - Wendell K. Croft, 65, of Heyburn, died Apil 3, 2006, in Salt Lake City, Utah, from complications due to surgery.
Wendell was born October 8, 1940, in Paul, to Noel H. And Burdella Croft. He married Sandra Lee in 1961 in the Idaho Falls Temple. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many different callings in the church.
Wendell is survived by his wife, Sandra of Heyburn; two sons, Russell (Cindy) Croft of Rupert and Brad (Tammy) Croft of Fruit Heights, Utah; daughter, Lannette (Tom) Sellers of Chubbuck, Idaho; four grandsons and 5 granddaughters; mother, Burdella Croft of Heyburn; six siblings, Joan McNealy, Alora (Gary) Bergstrom of Utah, Burdell (Peggy) Croft and Gale Groft of Heyburn, Kim (Shauna) Croft of Washington and Gerald Croft of Kansas; father-in-law, Norman (Geneva) Lee of Heyburn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; mother-in-law; a brother-in-law; and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2006, at Paul LDS Third and Fourth Ward, 300 S 500 W, Heyburn, with Bishop Kay Catmull officiating. Burial will follow at Gem Memorial Cemetery
in Burley.
A viewing for family and friends will be 6 to8 p.m. Wednesday at Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel, 710 Sixth Street.
James Leland Brockie
DALLAS - James Leland Brockie passed away on March 24, 2006 in Dallas, Texas after a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Rupert, to Helen Abigail Ellsworth and Robert Brockie. He was raised on a ranch and maintained his love of the outdoors throughout his life as an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of numerous hunting organizations and was awarded hunting trophies throughout the world.
He was a graduate of the University of Idaho where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
He was a Navy pilot in World War II and continued flying in his career as a Braniff Captain until his retirement. After his retirement he spent many years participating in the Dallas real estate and investment market. He traveled extensively to exotic destinations throughout the world where he often took advantage of opportunities to explore new cultures and terrains as he indulged his passion for hunting.
He lived most of his adult life in Dallas, Texas, where he was a member of the Irving Masonic Lodge 1218.
He is survived by three children and two sons-in -law, Dr. Robert E. Brockie of Dallas, Patricia and Chuck Naeve of Austin, Texas, and Jean and Ken Lancaster of Denver, Colo. He is survived by four grandsons, Charles Brockie Naeve, Patrick Gilbreath Naeve, Aidan John Brockie, and Ian Thomas Brockie. He is also survived by his sister Catherine Allott of Tucson, Ariz., along with numerous nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by brothers Robert Brockie Jr. and Donald Peter Brockie, and John Brockie.
Burial will be in Rupert. A memorial gathering will be held at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home on Friday, April 7, 2006, from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation, 322 Eighth Avenue, 6th floor, New York, NY 10001 or Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174-0001.
Evona Adeline Duff
Rupert-Evona Adeline Duff, age 92, passed away on September 16, 2005 at Minidoka Memorial Hospital.
She was born on January 17, 1917, at Hooper, Utah, the daughter of Ellis Lee and Raymond Marie Wiart Higley. Her family moved to Idaho when she was in high school, though she returned to Utah for her senior year. Following graduation, she returned to Paul to join her family where she met her husband Willard I. "Pete" Duff. They were married on April 7, 1932 at Paul, Idaho, where they resided until 1937 when they moved to Santa Rosa, California. After the start of WWII, they returned to the Mini-Cassia area where she lived the rest of her life.
Evona was an excellent artist and spent many hours painting. She worked for a number of years at the J.C. Penney Store in Burley and then as an interior decorator for Thaxton Painting Company. In the early sixties, she and Willard started an interior design business until Willard's death in 1975. She moved to Rupert in 1977. Evona was a member of the Pink Ladies at the Minidoka Memorial Hospital, a number of different bridge clubs, Bible study groups, and was a member of the Burley United Methodist Church. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who loved to be with her family.
Survivors include her sons, Douglas W. (Susan) Duff of Edwardsburg, Michigan and Larry R. (Merry) Duff of Rupert, Idaho; four granddaughters, Tara (Brent) McCall, Lisa (Keith) Clements, Gina (Todd) Hanchett, and Jody (Brian) McKernan; six great grandchildren, Sara McCall (Roger) Pilkington, Seth McCall, Erin McCall, Caitlin Clements, Isabel Hanchett, and Josephine McKernan; her sisters, Bertha (Al) Thaxton and Naomi (Jim) Lynch; and one brother, Lee (Marie) Higley.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one sister, Marcine Hacking; and two brothers, Albert "Bud" Higley and Wallace Higley.
Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2005 at the Paul Cemetery
with Reverend Darcey Gritzmacher, officiating.
