On Oct. 13, 1950, Wayne married his high school sweetheart, Yvonne Lawson, in Annis. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Wayne served in the military after being drafted into the United States Army in 1950. He was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, and Fort Hood, Texas. In 1962, Wayne, his father, and brothers, began a farming operation at Blue Gulch in the Castleford area. They cleared the land and developed and installed an irrigation system for the farm. Wayne and Yvonne relocated to Rupert in 1976, where he operated a custom farming business. Following complications from back surgery in 1985, it was required that Wayne stop working. The blessing in this, was it allowed him to spend more time with his family.
His greatest joy came from family activities. Wayne loved to have his children and grandchildren around him. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, and boating with his family. Retirement also allowed Wayne and Yvonne to spend time in St. George, Utah. He always looked forward to the warm weather and the activities and hobbies he engaged in while in St. George. Due to health concerns, he did not know whether he would be able to make the trip this year, but with assistance of his family he did get to make one final trip. He passed away in a place he loved with family members with him.
