Edward Raymond Hester, 56, passed away, Sunday, August 29, 2004 at his home in Colburn, Idaho. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2004 at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint, Idaho with Pastor Jeff Bradley of the Calvary Chapel officiating. Burial will follow at the McArthur Cemetery
with Military Honors under the Auspices of V.F.W. Post #2453.
Ed was born on September 19, 1947 in Oceanside, California to Vernon and Rae Madeline (Helm) Hester. Ed grew up and attended school in Vista, CA. He served his country in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Germany in the late 1960’s.
Ed owned a pet grooming business in Rancho Bernardo, CA called the Pet Parlor. After selling the business he moved to the Sandpoint area in 2002. In Sandpoint Ed worked for Handyman Services.
Ed enjoyed life and sharing God’s word. He has gone to be with the “Author” and will be greatly missed by all that knew him. His hobbies included billiards, hiking, and working with his hands.
He is survived by his daughters Sarah and Rachel Hester, both of Bakersfield, California; brother Vance (Carol) Hester of San Antonio; nieces Christy Holand of San Antonio; Cathy (Jason) Bruce of Fort Worth, Texas; great nieces Jordan and Reagan Holand; Mauryn and Sadie Bruce; as well as special friends Larry (Deb) Beeler of Sandpoint.

Maxine Lenora Murray, 82, passed away, Saturday, August 28, 2004 in Sandpoint, Idaho. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Nancy Copeland-Payton officiating. Burial will follow at the Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Maxine, known to her family as "Gramma Great" was born on August 17, 1922. She was raised in Osage City, Kansas, a daughter of Erwin and Lenora Gillan. After visiting relatives in Sandpoint as a young woman, and being captivated by the beauty of north Idaho, Maxine moved here in 1941. She began working at Lee’s Café, and in 1942 she married Y. Lee Eng. Together they owned and operated Lee’s Café. Many people will also remember her from Don’s Drive-In where she worked for fourteen years.
In 1962 Maxine married Roy Murray, the couple later made their home in Potlatch, Idaho. Maxine lived in Potlatch until 1987 when Mr. Murray passed away. She then moved back to Sandpoint to be closer to her family.
Maxine will be remembered for her work with Senior Companions and as a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Maxine’s gentle spirit and dedication to family will be honored and remembered by her children Larry Eng of Sacramento, California; Marvin (Cheryl) Eng of Ritzville, Washington; Dixie Kent of Ponderay; Bonnie Sanborn of Sandpoint; and Leroy (Marsha) Murray of Post Falls. Maxine’s caring and gracious qualities will be carried on by her grandchildren Jeff Bouse of Ponderay; Dennis Eng of Battleground, Washington; Trevor and Colin Eng of Ritzville, Idaho; Jacinda Bokowy of Sandpoint; Kevin Lewis of Sandpoint; Todd O'Brien of Ritzville, Washington; Denise Brown of Spokane; Joe Murray of Potlatch, Idaho; Myron and Marty Murray of Post Falls; and Becky Keck of Potlatch, Idaho.
Maxine’s sense of humor and silliness will be played out in her great grandchildren, Brenden and Alyssa Eng, Cody, Carson and Austin Lewis, Payton and Katie Bokowy, Tyler and Tessa O’Brien, LJ, Lindsey and Evan Murray, Jacob, Emily and Russell Keck.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Erwin and Lenora Gillan, two brothers Glen and Dale Gillan, one sister Ila Mae Runyan, and two husbands Y. Lee Eng and Roy Murray who both passed away in 1987.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint.
Vicki Margo Long, 56, of Sandpoint, Idaho passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2004.
She was born to Walter W. and Annette Marie Long on August 19, 1948 in Urbana, Illinois. A celebration of her life will be held at Lakeview Funeral Home on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. with a reception potluck to follow at Tea Aunan’s home at 424 Superior.
Born to a military family, Vicki moved often, residing in Dayton, Ohio; Montgomery, Alabama; Rome, New York; Denver and Colorado Springs, Colorado; Wiesbaden, Germany; and graduated from High School in Annandale, Virginia. Vicki went on to graduate from Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado with a B.A. in German.
She then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Vicki received a Masters in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Vicki married Pat Morris in Albuquerque and was later divorced. She went on to Massage School in Albuquerque, then met and married Samuel Mahaffy. Son, Sylvan Mahaffy Long was born in 1984 in Albuquerque. They moved to Sandpoint to raise their son in a small town environment. Vicki had found Sandpoint between her undergraduate and graduate schooling when she sold jewelry. She was later divorced from Samuel Mahaffy. She also had picked fruit in Wenatchee, worked for the telephone company in Albuquerque, and for the La Montanita Co-op in Albuquerque.
Vicki worked in Coldwater Creek, taught special education and gifted and talented at the
Southside and the Washington Elementary Schools. She traveled extensively to Europe, and fell in love with Bali, Indonesia. Vicki made several trips there, and was accepted as a part of the Nyoman Gede family. She felt at home in the culture and deeply connected with the families there. Vicki lived in Sandpoint for 19 years. She was diagnosed with cancer in December of 2002.
Above all, Vicki loved being a mother and did a wonderful job of it. It was her proudest accomplishment. She loved music and dance, especially gospel and Balinese gamelan. Vicki loved intellectual, emotional, and spiritual growth in all forms. She enjoyed massage, meditating, philosophical and psychological discussions, and learning about holistic medicine. Vicki found peace and insight in nature, taking long walks with her friends by the lake, and also kayaking. She loved to teach social justice and human rights, passing on the things she learned for herself. Being very people focused she reached out to people, keeping up friendships from high school, and continually establishing deep friendships. She sought honest, heartfelt relationships with all that were around her and taught others to do the same. She volunteered with hospice and helped others to learn that emotional honesty and truth are very important.
Vicki is survived by son, Sylvan M. Long; sister, Toni Stovall; father, Walter Long; stepmother, Carlene Long; nieces, Cyndi and Amy and numerous family and friends.

Diane Maureen Tatterson, 55, passed away, Thursday, August 12, 2004 in Des Moines, Washington.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 21st at Pinecrest Memorial Park with Pastor Steve Massey of the Hayden Bible Church officiating.
Diane was born on May 10, 1949 in Moscow, Idaho to Robert and Pearl Webster. She grew up and attended schools in Moscow, later receiving her teaching degree at the University of Idaho.
Diane taught Business at Sandpoint High School from 1972 to 1978. She then moved to De Moines, WA and worked for Boeing for several years. Diane retired from Boeing five years ago.
Diane’s passion was quilting. She shared her knowledge and skill by teaching many friends and family the art of quilting. She especially enjoyed gatherings with family and friends. She will be remembered for her bright smile, patience, and the love and joy she shared with her family.
She is survived by her son Eric Tatterson of Des Moines, Washington; daughter Stacy (Dan) Young of Chelan, WA; grandchildren Rachel, Liam and Michael Young of Chelan, Washington; brother Allen Webster of Moscow, Idaho; and sister Betty Taylor of Auburn, Washington.

Ronald J. Legget, 68, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, August 13, 2004 at the Lakeview Funeral Home with Bill Norton of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Church officiating. Burial with a Scottish bagpipe processional will follow at the Pack River Cemetery.
Ron was born on September 22, 1935 in Klamath Falls, Oregon to James and Lucille Legget. He was raised near Fort Klamath, attended schools and graduated in Chiloquin, Oregon. After spending two years in the Army, Ron went on to graduate from Southern Oregon College in Ashland. He later received his Masters degree from Nova University in Florida.
Ron married Gail Mannering on August 30, 1959 in Chiloquin. Ron started his teaching career in Southern California, and after two years he moved to Germany where he taught for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools. For the next 31 years he taught the children of Army families stationed overseas.
In 1993 Ron and Gail retired to beautiful Sandpoint, Idaho. He was a member of Sandpoint Elks Lodge #1376, and the Prime timers at Schweitzer Mountain Resort. He enjoyed teaching part time at the NIC extension office, golfing, playing tennis, and skiing.
Ron will be greatly missed by his many friends. He is survived by his wife Gail Legget of Sandpoint, ID, and one brother Jim Legget of Yakima, WA.

Claude Alan “Chip” Young, 54, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2004 at his home in Trestle Creek, Idaho. Private services have been held for family and friends. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery.
Chip was born on April 18, 1950 in Kennewick, Washington to Claude A. “Chip” and Joyce Young. He attended schools in California until 1962 when the family moved to Germany. He graduated from the American High School in Kaiserslautern, Germany in 1968.
Chip was a student at Seattle University when the Vietnam War started, and as a result he entered the United States Army. After basic training he was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He was later stationed at the recreation area at Garmish, Germany where he served on the ski patrol and as a ski instructor.
Following his military service he went to work for the HUD branch of the U.S. Government in California and Hawaii. He lived in Three Forks, Montana for a couple of years before moving to Sandpoint in 1993 to be closer to his parents. He was employed at Schweitzer Mountain Resort at the time of his death.
He enjoyed ski instructing, leather work, stain glass, and riding motorcycles. He will be missed by his friends and family, but we will remember him with many wonderful memories. He loved to make everyone laugh, so think of him every time you make someone laugh.
He is survived by his parents Chip and Joyce Young of Sandpoint; son Joel Young of Portland, Oregon; granddaughters Madison (age 7) and Morgan (age 5) of Portland, Oregon; niece Tammy Young of Rapid City, South Dakota; nephews Chad Young of Spokane; Shane Young of Gainsville, Georgia; and great niece Marisa Young of Spokane. He is also survived by his special “Schweitzer Brothers”
He was preceded in death by his younger brother Craig, who died in August 2001 after a long battle with cancer, and was interred at Arlington National Cemetery
