Helen Katherine Schorzman Wolf
Helen Katherine Schorzman was born Nov. 26, 1917, in Kimama, to Julius Franz Schorzman and Margaret Guthmiller Schorzman. She joined two sisters, Miriam and Lydia. During the next eleven years, they were joined by six brothers, Maurice, Raymond, Nolan, William, Herman, and Wallace. Helen spent her first eight years in Kimama where she attended the first and second grades. Her family then moved to the Rupert area where she attended the third and fourth grades of school. Her parents moved to a farm east of Declo where they farmed for a number of years. Helen attended school through the tenth grade there.
She met Lloyd Franklin Wolf while driving a tractor for her dad during the hay harvest. They started dating shortly after that. There were married several years later on April 12, 1937, in the Little Flower Catholic Church in Burley, Idaho. Four children were born to this union, Joe, Richard, Gary, and Shirlene. They made their home in the Springdale area and later moved to Lloyd’s parents farm where she still resided. Helen loved to crochet, sew and garden. She was an active participant in the Catholic Church all her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd, one son, Gary and two sisters, Miriam and Lydia; six brothers, Maurice, Raymond, Nolan, William, Herman, and Wallace; three sisters-in-law, Bonnie, Lou, and Ruth, and one daughter-in-law, Linda Horton Wolf.
She is survived by her sons Joe Wolf and Richard (Karen) Wolf, and her daughter, Shirlene (Arlen) Adams, nine grandchildren, Brenda, Brent, Denise, Staci, Ty, Stephanie, Cory, Karrie, and Travis, twenty two great grandchildren with one more due in November, and one sister-in-law, Millie Schorzman.
Helen passed away after a valiant fight with cancer at 11:43 a.m. Aug. 11, 2006 at the Cassia Regional Medical Center, her loving family at her side. Helen lived a full life being involved with family, friends, and church. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, with the Rev. Father Mike St. Marie as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery
in Burley. A vigil service will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at the Payne Mortuary in Burley. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
Roy Lee Madewell
Roy Lee Madewell, a 63-year-old resident of Burley, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006.
He was born Jan. 22, 1943, in Madera, Calif., the son of Ben Franklin and Ruth Maxey Madewell. He received his education in Madera, graduating from Madera High School. He married Louise Gray on July 15, 1961, in Madera.
He worked 26 years for Horizon Dairy until retirement. He was a member of the Mini-Cassia Bass Club and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Survivors include his wife, Louise of Burley; three children, Billy Wayne Madewell of Heyburn, Steven Allen (Joly) Madewell of Hazelton, and Jodie Marie (Chuck) Taylor of Burley; four grandchildren, MacKenzie Madewell, Nate Madewell, Brian Taylor and Kirstin Taylor; six brothers, Donald Ray Madewell of Hollister, David Joe Madewell of Longmont, Colo., Calvin Charles Madewell of Placerville, Calif., Dale Stanley Madewell of Madera, Calif., Vernon Madewell of Moppa, Nev., and Ernie Benny Madewell also of Madera, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a baby sister, Paulette Madewell.
A graveside will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at the Hazelton Cemetery.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley.
Eva Jean Matsen Lord
Rupert — Eva Jean Matsen Lord, of Rupert, died peacefully in her Rupert home on Aug. 10, 2006, after a long struggle with cancer.
Eva was born April 10, 1927, in Burley, to Magnus and Goldie Clark Matsen. She grew up on the family farm, where her father was a tenant farmer, and attended school in Burley with three brothers and three sisters.
Following her graduation from Burley High School in 1945, Eva and a girlfriend moved to Logan, Utah, where they both worked at Hill Air force Base Arsenal during and in support of the war. After her roommate left, financial hardship forced Eva to return to Burley, where she met her future husband on a blind date, though he was her girlfriend’s date, not her own.
Eva married Hal Lord on Aug. 26, 1946, in Burley. Their first home was a cleaned-up chicken coop, but they grew more prosperous in the following years as Hal started and managed his own pole and post business, cutting lumber in Island Park then milling it at his own sawmill on his property. Their log home, for which he cut the logs himself, and then built with his own hands, still stands in Heyburn.
In 1956, they moved with their four children to land they homesteaded north of Rupert. Eva partnered with Hal, enjoying and working the farm. In later years, they enjoyed traveling throughout the west, especially enjoying photographing courthouses.
They also collected rocks from various western states, which, when they returned home, Eva helped polish and make into earrings, necklaces, and bolo ties. Eva loved to garden and continued to garden until her death.
She loved to grow and dry gourds that she then turned into lovely dried flower arrangements and birdhouses. Eva and Hal sold the farm in 1988, and continued to travel until Hal’s death from cancer in 1993.
Eva was a strong supporter of education. She routinely gave blood to the Red Cross to help others throughout her life, and was awarded a 15 gallon pin. She was a warm and caring individual who treated everyone with respect and dignity.
Eva is surviveded by her four children, Harry (Sherrie) Lord of Idaho Falls, John Lord of Las Vegas, Nev., Marilyn (Dennis) Karlson of Rupert, and Phillip (Jenny) Lord of Moses Lake, Wash.; a sister, Carol (Bob) Smith of Caldwell; 11 grandchildren, Harry Louis IV, Shelly, Jeremy, Heather, Sierra, Michael, Erik, Kristina, Tabitha, Andrea and Alexis; and eight great-grandchildren.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Hal; her eldest grandchild, Sidra; two sisters, Bertha and Karen; and three brothers, Magnus Jr., Ray and LaMar.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel, 710 6th St. Friends and family may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. before the services. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery.

Evaleen Nielsen Hogg
GARFIELD — Evaleen Nielsen Hogg, 68, of Garfield, died at her home Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, from complications following surgery.
She was born Jan. 4, 1938, at Murray, Utah a daughter to Elmer Ray Nielsen and Eva Sarah Orton Nielsen.
When she was 8 years old, she moved with her family to Burley where she attended Burley schools. In high school she was involved in various activities such as music, art and student government, graduating in 1956. She then attended Ricks College in Rexburg and pursued a degree as a nutritionist.
There she dated Gale Hogg, also of Burley, whom she married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on March 27, 1958. They lived in various rural locations in Jefferson and Bonneville counties.
She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in numerous positions, principally in the Primary organization.
After her children were raised she was employed outside the home working with the elderly and handicapped. Later she enjoyed working as a cook in the Bonneville School District.
She is survived by her husband Gale Thomas Hogg of Garfield, eight children David (Gloria) Hogg of Rigby, LeeAnn (David) Hansen of Kaysville, Utah, Thomas Lynn (Candie) Hogg of Boise, Eric (Susan) Hogg of Greenfield, Wisconsin, Shellie Ballard of Idaho Falls, Shawna (Brandon) Harvey of Meridian, Sheri Hogg of Rigby, Kathleen Hogg (Victor Tackett — fiancée) of Tucson, Ariz., 22 grandchildren, one great grandchild, a half sister Lynda Nielsen Floyd of Eagle, and a step brother, Kay Nielsen of Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the Garfield LDS Church, 71 N. 3700 E., Rigby, with Bishop Kent Bradley officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel and on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Grant Central Cemetery.

Frank R. Crawford
Frank R. Crawford, 85, a lifetime Burley resident passed away suddenly of a heart attack on Aug. 14, 2006. His loving wife of 62 years, Jeane Crawford, was at his side.
Frank was born March 4, 1921, in Burley. His parents were Hugh Lindesay Crawford and Edith Fry Crawford.
Frank was married to D. Jeane Salmon on Aug. 6, 1944, at the Burley Methodist Church. They had one son, James Lindesay Crawford born July 23, 1947. They just celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on Aug. 6.
Frank and Jeane have resided in Burley, nearly their entire lives. Frank graduated from Burley High School in 1939. He entered the University of Idaho that fall and joined an Army Calvary National Guard Unit in Moscow, that year. During the summer of 1940, he transferred to the Idaho 116 Engineers National Guard Unit in Burley. His guard unit was called to active duty at Ft. Lewis, Wash., at the beginning of the WWII. He received a Bronze Star Medal for the performance of meritorious services at a Pacific base in the New Hebrides Islands from May 1942 to April 1943. With a small number of men and limited equipment, Corporal Crawford was primarily responsible for the construction of two miles of jungle road and the preparation of a gun site for a heavy coastal gun battery. He pushed this work with such tireless energy and force that it was completed two weeks ahead of schedule. He was very proud of his service to his country.
After the war, he was married and continued his education at the University of Idaho, graduating in 1948, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry. He worked briefly in the forest products industry at Cottage Grove, Oregon, and then was hired by the Bureau of Reclamation, in Burley, Idaho. He later helped survey the Desert Entry Projects in Minidoka County and later worked in river control and civil engineering on survey projects on the Snake River Dams from Jackson Hole to Milner. He retired from the Bureau in December of 1983, with 33 years of Federal Service.
He was a Past Master, current treasurer, and 50-year plus member of the Burley Masonic Lodge AF & AM #68. He was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Rupert Chapter #39. He was a 75-year member of the Burley United Methodist Church, active in many projects including 20 years as a manager of the Methodist Food Booth at the Cassia County Fair. He took pride and satisfaction from these activities, as he enjoyed service to others and his community.
Frank was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a Scoutmaster during the years his son was a boy scout. He passed along his knowledge of the outdoors to his son, Jim, and many other boys of Troop 20 of the Methodist Church. He and his son had many good memories of the South Hills and Camp Cape Horn as well as many family camping trips and outings.
After his retirement, he and Dr. Annest became great fishing and goose hunting buddies. He greatly appreciated this association and their friendship.
Frank also loved to garden, both flowers and vegetables. His favorites included red gladiolas, red roses and vegetables of all types, many of which he donated to those in the church as the bounty was so great.
Frank is survived by the love of his life and his wife of 62 years, Jeane Crawford, his “sweetieheart“; his only son, James L. Crawford and his wife Kathy Crawford of Mountain Home; his three granddaughters, Robynn, Cali, and Katie Jeane Crawford of Boise, and Mountain Home; and his brother, George Crawford, of Roseburg, Ore. Also surviving are his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Maxine and Jerry Klink, of Redmond, Wash.
He will be long remembered and deeply missed for his loving heart, his hard work, his companionship, the cheerful twinkle in his eye, and his dedication to his family and friends. He always did his best.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, at the Burley United Methodist Church, 450 E. 27th St., Burley, with the Rev. Darcey Gritzmacher officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the Mini-Cassia Veterans.

Elizabeth Bunn
Elizabeth Bunn, an 85-year-old resident of Burley, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at Highland Estates.
Beth was born March 20, 1921, in Burley, the daughter of George Harry and Lottie Teresa Grover Haycock. She was the third child of a family which would eventually number nine living children. She was born at home in a small farmhouse which sat beside the Unity road. She grew up there hoeing beets, picking potatoes, milking cows, and helping her mother care for her younger brothers and sisters.
She graduated from Burley High School in 1939, and that summer married Reed Shaw of Malta. Reed went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad and Beth moved with him many times as he was transferred from place to place. Their first child, Ronald, was born in Burley, Dianne in Battle Mountain, Nevada, Penny in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Bonnie in Elko, Nevada. In 1952, Beth made the decision to move with her children back to Burley. Once settled, she soon went to work at Thornberg’s Veterinary Hospital. She met George Bunn there when he brought a sick cow in for treatment. George was a bachelor who waited until he was 40 to meet the right woman. Beth and George were married in 1955, and she returned to the farm life she had known as a child.
Beth and George had three sons, George, Bruce, and Bill. Beth worked beside her husband to keep the farm operating, often taking on a big share of the chores when he was working at the potato plants to bring in a little extra income. Their three boys grew up and were able to take on much of the responsibility for the farm, especially after George’s health failed. George passed away in 1988, and Beth continued to put on barn clothes and lend a hand with the milking.
Beth was active in the LDS Church, teaching Primary when her boys were young, and in later years serving as a visiting teacher for the Relief Society. She valued her family’s long relationship with the LDS Church and was a proud member of the Sarah Yeaman Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Beth is survived by six of her children, Dianne (Robert) Anderson of Boise, Penny Shaw of Eugene, Ore., Bonnie (Richard) Wright of North Pole, Alaska, George (Teresa) Bunn of Burley, Bruce (Becky) Bunn of Rupert, and William Bunn of Burley. Her surviving siblings are Art Haycock, Margaret Koyle, Dorothy Kidd, Shirley Johnston, and Harry Haycock. She leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents; her husband; one son, Ronald Shaw; her brothers, George and Ross Haycock; and her sister, Ruth Koyle Moncur.
Beth’s family was foremost in her life. She was proud of her children and grandchildren. She loved her siblings and in particular, she always held her sisters close to her heart. She will be missed by all those who loved her.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at the View LDS First and Second Ward Church, 550 S. 500 E. of Burley, with Bishop LaVel D. Stoker officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
