oseph Dale Smith
Joseph Dale Smith, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, returned to his loving Heavenly Father on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at the age of 80. He died at home in Burley, surrounded by his devoted wife and family.
Born May 2, 1926, to John Obray and Flossie Ellen Parish in Malta. Dale was the youngest of six children. His life was filled with challenges, but because of his faith, these challenges made him stronger. Dale buried his father on his fifteenth birthday. He was educated in Malta. Dale gave up his plans for college to help his mother ranch and earn money for his mission. He served a mission in Toronto, Canada. He married Lois Western in 1949, in the Logan LDS Temple. They made their home in Malta. This union was blessed with seven children. They were later divorced.
On May 26, 1972, Dale married Suzanne Louise Dittmore, his Eternal partner. This marriage was sealed in the Provo LDS Temple. Together, Dale and Suzanne had a family of 13 children ages 7-20, 11 girls and two boys. Dale dedicated his time to providing his combined family with a good life. He loved all his children mightily. Dale and Suzanne were pioneers in the now-common combined family. They made it work. Sixty Eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren have been blessed to have a caring and fun grandfather in their lives.
Dale was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities, including as a member of a bishopric and High Priest Group Leader. However, he will be remembered most as a Gospel Doctrine teacher. Dale was an accomplished scholar of the scriptures. Many people still speak of his catch phrase, “the Big O” from his lessons on obedience.
Dale was a hard worker. After ranching in Malta, Dale moved into Burley. He owned and operated a wholesale petroleum business, Smith Oil Company. Dale had deep roots in ranching and never gave up working with cattle. He farmed a few acres of land, and owned several properties. He was an active member of the Burley Kiwanis Club and served as president. He spent many years coaching Little League football and had many championship teams.
Dale developed health problems in the last few years. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. This last year Dale had many hospitalizations. Suzanne stayed with him day and night. No one could have had a more tender and loving caretaker. With the help of his loving wife and caring friends, he was able to keep working with his cows until the end. His faith in Jesus Christ sustained him through this last illness. He always had a joke to tell, a smile to give, and positive attitude. He will be remembered for his hearty laugh and his unlimited generosity.
Dale is survived by his wife, Suzanne; his children, Daleen (Kirk) Pugmire, Gaylun (Karen) Smith, Joni (Vaughn) Bailey, Toni Bingham, Kathy (Reese) Mitchell, Tami Smith, Cheryl (Logan) Berg, Yvonne (Kevin) Baker, Arleen (Jason) Vaughn, Christine (Kevin) Heiner, Ione (Larry) Ward, and Ted Willich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Inez Barlow and Gladys Neddo; three brothers, Vance, Vearle, and John (Jack); a daughter, Sylvia Ahlberg; two sons-in law, Charlie Pribble and Bruce Bingham; and three grandchildren, Triston and Trenton Ward, and Matthew Smith.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, at the Burley Third and Seventh Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2200 Oakley Ave., with Bishop Tracy King officiating. Burial will be in Valley Vu Cemetery
in Malta.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley, 1350 E. 16th St., and from 10 until 10:40 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Lorraine Wood Muir
BRIGHAM CITY - Lorraine Wood Muir, 87, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006 at the Brigham City Hospital.
Lorraine was born on Nov. 24, 1918 in Mendon, Utah, a daughter of Alonzo R. and Florence A. Bowen Wood.
She married Eddis L. Muir on Aug. 21, 1935 in Farmington, Utah. They lived in Mendon, Rupert, Burley, Hazleton and Gooding. They semi-retired in Tremonton in 1972 and then moved to Brigham City in 1974 to retire. Eddis died in February of 1992.
Lorraine was an active member of the LDS Church and was a temple ordinance worker.
She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Surviving are her children; Sharon (Dwain) Mooso, Caldwel; Dal Muir, Bountiful, Utah; Ray (Kathy) Muir, Burley; Carolyn Hansen, Perry, Utah; Renae (Larry) Strutz, Portland, Ore.; Rena Muir, Boise; 25 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Lea Staples, Logan, Utah; and Juanita Larsen, Morgan, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Eddis, a daughter-in-law, son-in-law, two granddaughters, a sister and brother.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Brigham City 5th Ward Chapel, 420 South 800 West, Brigham City.
Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City and on Saturday from 10 to 10:40 a.m. at the Church.
Interment will be in the Mendon Cemetery
at 2:30 p.m.
Barbara Roberts Moon
Heyburn — Barbara Roberts Moon, a 76-year-old resident of Heyburn, passed away Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Barbara was born Feb. 4, 1930, the youngest of ten children born to William and Rosetta Welker Roberts. She was raised in Burley and graduated from Burley High School. She loved to play the trumpet and enjoyed playing in dance bands.
Barbara married Ned Neibaur Moon on July 16, 1948, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. To this union was born six children. She was a devoted wife and mother. Everything centered around her family. She lovingly made quilts for all of her children and grandchildren. She was so proud of her grandchildren’s achievements and diligently supported their various activities and events. Family history was extremely important to her and this past summer each grandchild received a book that she had compiled going back six generations. She had included pictures, histories, documents, and pedigree charts.
One of her great pleasures was her cabin in Elba, where many wonderful family reunions were held. She was happiest when her entire family was gathered there together. She loved to travel and was thrilled to go to Israel, Washington D.C., Europe, and she also went on an Alaskan cruise.
Barbara was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church capacities including Primary President, Young Women’s President, and Stake Relief Society President. She was just recently released as Ward Relief Society President. She also worked in the Boise Temple. Shortly after her husband’s passing, she served a mission in Birmingham, Alabama.
She is survived by her children, Dennis (Irene) Moon of Grand Prairie, Texas, Ray (Jillyn) Moon of Eden, Janna (Howard) Rew of Richland, Wash., Ned (Mary) Moon of Heyburn, Darin (Valerie) Moon of Burley, and Tom (Terri) Moon of Pasco, Wash.; 29 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Gale Roberts of Shoshone.
She was preceded in death by her parents; eight of her siblings; and her husband, Ned N. Moon.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, at the Paul Third and Fourth Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 300 S. 500 W., Heyburn, with Bishop Todd Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery
in Heyburn.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, and from 1 until 1:40 p.m. Saturday at the church.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund in care of Rasmussen Funeral Home.
Timathy Keith Gardner
Timathy Keith Gardner, beloved son and brother, died Nov. 12, 2006 in Twin Falls, at age 20.
Timathy was born Feb. 27, 1986, in Pocatello, the oldest child of Scot and Kathy Mabey Gardner. He was a 2004 graduate of Minico High School. Timathy loved listening to and playing music, he excelled at the bass guitar. He was artistic and creative with pencil and paint drawings. Timathy was a very sensitive and loving person.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathlyn Mabey, grandmother, Madaline Mabey and grandfather, Keith B. Mabey.
Timathy is survived by his father Scot and step mother, Leslie Gardner of Rupert; brothers and sisters, Morghan (Josh) George 17, of Heyburn; Jonathon Gardner 15, Ashley Parker 13, Sierra Gardner 12, Shaylin Parker 11, Brynn Parker 9, and Jake Parker 6, and his grandparents Allen and Winifred Gardner of Mendon, Utah.
Funeral services will be held 2: p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at the Acequia LDS 1st Ward Chapel, with Bishop James McBride officiating. Interment will follow at the Rupert Cemetery.
Timathy’s family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m Thursday at Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
Although his life was short his memory and impact to our lives will be felt forever.
Barbara J. Christensen
Barbara Jean Christensen, a 67-year-old resident of Burley, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at her home.
She was born Dec. 17, 1938, in Heyburn, the daughter of Irvin Bybee and Agnus Leona Moore Craythorn. She received her education in Declo, graduating from Declo High School. She married Howard Don Christensen on Nov. 20, 1958, in the Logan LDS Temple.
In Barbara’s early married years, she worked as a waitress at Gib’s Barbeque in Burley. She later worked for and retired from J.R. Simplot in Heyburn, after more than 30 years of service.
She was a member of the LDS Church having served many years as a Primary teacher. She enjoyed embroidery work and singing around the house. She will always be remembered for her outstanding macaroni salad.
She is survived by her husband, Howard of Burley; three children, Cindy Beagle of Mesa, Arizona, Sandra Christensen and Don (Janet) Christensen both of Burley; three grandchildren, Michael Beagle, Marilyn Keel and Melissa Engstrom; and her siblings, Kenneth (Renon) Craythorn of Heyburn, Ed (Effie) Craythorn of Jerome, Lorraine Barnes of Downey, Earl (Barbara) Craythorn of Declo, and Bill (Lavonne) Craythorn of Burley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, David Craythorn; and one sister, Nadine Craythorn.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at the Burley LDS Stake Center, 2050 Normal Ave., with Bishop Guy Redder officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Veta Beatrice Bronson Catmull
RUPERT — Veta Beatrice Bronson Catmull, a 95-year-old Rupert resident, passed away Nov. 8, 2006.
Veta was born July 14, 1910, in Almo, the daughter of Lucian Edwin Bronson and Clara Ruth Taylor. She attended Albion Normal College, and later the University of Utah receiving her Bachelors degree in education.
She married Grant Lavon Catmull June 17, 1941, in Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Veta taught school in Burley, Boise, Ogden, Utah, and in Rupert at Lincoln and Memorial schools. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers. Veta also had a love for horses, that started at a young age when she would take the fresh horses out to her father in the sheep camps outside of Oakley.
Veta is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Ann Schroeder and Vanae Yvonne McClatchey; her grandchildren Brooks Hunt-Gilman (Russ); Kerri Lynn Holley; William Grant Arend; Jarrod Lavon McClatchey; Allison Spears (Nephi); great grandchildren Bryneen Cameron Hunt, Kegan Alika Indigo Hunt, Meagon, Kimberly, Kylen and Gavin Spears; special nephews Kay (Sheila) Catmull, Kurt (Terrill) Catmull, Brent (Jackie) Catmull and Mark (Tammy) Catmull.
She was preceded in death by her husband Grant Lavon Catmull, parents, three brothers Boyd, Eldon and Reo Bronson, one sister Violet Yarger, and Kevin Dean Holley (she fondly called her adopted grandson)
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at the Rupert LDS 1st Ward chapel with Bishop Stacey Camp, of the 7th Ward, officiating.
Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at the Rupert Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donation be made to Cassia Regional Hospice or to the Missionary Fund for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
