J. Garth Brown
J. Garth Brown, beloved husband, father and friend, blessed the earth for 89 years 8 months and 6 days. He peacefully departed Dec. 17, 2006, of natural causes.
He was born in Burley to Walter Cheever Brown and Maud Knight Brown and was the fifth of eight children. He attended school in Lindon and Charleston, Utah, and graduated from Burley High School. He was a talented athlete and received a full ride basketball scholarship to Weber State College in Ogden, Utah.
Garth married his sweetheart, Ada Charlotte Cole, Nov. 26, 1937. This marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised three children and made their home in Idaho and Utah.
Although he and Ada left the farm after a few years of marriage, Garth always referred to himself as an Idaho Farmer. He and a friend organized the Cassia County Posse in Burley, which is still active. Their high-speed figure 8 drills carrying American flags were a thrill to every rodeo audience around. He was also in demand for his beautiful tenor voice. He and Ada sand duets at all the important occasions while in Idaho.
He spent most of his life as a successful business man in sales from insurance and real estate to ownership of Diamond Distributing Company. He was an honorable business man in every way.
He loved antiques and collected many interesting things in his travels through the West. He was an avid golfer and a charter member of the Alpine Country Club. Garth was charismatic and a generous and loyal friend. He was a great storyteller and had a sense of humor which endeared him to all of us. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada in 1995 after 58 years of marriage, his four brothers; Howard, Newel, Jay and Merrill and three sisters; Elva, Vera, and Bessie as well as his daughter-in-law, Shirley T. Brown. He is survived by his children; Brent Garth Brown (Sharyn) of Highland, Utah, Judith Kay Brown Nielson (David) of Salt Lake City, Utah and Laurel Marie Brown of Colorado. He leaves 14 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at noon on Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at the Mt. Olympus LDS 9th Ward Building 4625 South Lanark Rd. (3315 East), where friends may call from 10:45 — 11:45 a.m.
Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
Blanca Chairez
Blanca Chairez, a 53-year-old Burley resident, returned to her Heavenly Father, Thursday, December 7, 2006, at the St. Luke's Magic Valley Regional Medical Center, due to complications of diabetes.
Blanca was born on February 20, 1953, in the city of Pharr, Texas, the daughter of Porfirio and Refugia Reyna. Her family later moved to Madera, California, where she met her husband to be, Jose Elias Chairez. Then were married in 1974 and chose Burley, Idaho to start their family. She worked for the local farmers during the harvest seasons. When she became a grandmother of nine, she chose to dedicate her life to caring for her children and grandchildren. Although Blanca struggled with diabetes for many years, she never let the illness get the best of her. She continued to live life doing things she loved to do best such as, helping her grandchildren, shopping, listening to Tejano music, and enjoyed going on family outings. She was a loving mother, grandmother and devoted wife and she will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Blanca is survived by her husband, Jose Elias Chairez; her children, Estella Isabel Chairez, Jose Elias Chairez Jr., Maria Elena Chairez, Graciela (Memorio) Viveros, and Leticia (Efrain) Chairez; grandchildren, Antonio and Alejandro Gonzales, Julius
Garcia, Miraya and Angel Herrera, Jada Chairez and Jauna Viveros, and Mateo and Aliyah Arteaga; brothers, Eddie Reyna, Pablo Reyna, Johnny Reyna and Albert Reyna; sisters, Beatriz Olvera, Adela Barboza, Rosa Reyna, Eva Torres, Elvira Torres, Sally Reyna, Viola Dominguez and Santa Chavez.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Porfirio Reyna, Jr. and sister, Maria Olvera.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at the Little Flower Catholic Church, with Father Reginald U. Nwauzor as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church Tuesday December 12, from 5-7 p.m. with the rosary being recited at 6 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Mortuary Burley Chapel.
Truman Bradley
Truman Bradley, an 84-year-old resident of Burley, passed away on Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, in Draper, Utah, after a 15-year battle with prostate cancer.
Truman was born in Dill City, Okla., on June 3, 1922. His family moved to Burley, in 1936, and he graduated from Burley High School in 1940. During World War II, he was a pilot and served as an instructor in B17’s and B24’s at various bases in the United States. He remained in the reserves until his retirement as a Lt. Colonel after nearly 40 years in the Air Force.
Truman and his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Daven, were married in May 1944. They had one son, Dave. After nearly 53 years together, Liz passed away in 1997.
Truman was very active in the Burley community. He was a founder of Land Title and Escrow and enjoyed a long and successful career in the insurance and real estate business. Among his many accomplishments . . . he was President of the Burley Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Burley City Council, a member of the City of Burley Planning and Zoning Commission, President of the Idaho Association of Realtors, and Chairman of the Idaho Real Estate Commission. Truman’s passion, besides golfing with friends, was his service and association with the Burley Lions Club for more than 50 years. He and Liz often shared their many Lions Club adventures, one of which was attending the International Convention in Chicago, in the early 1960’s.
Truman is survived by his son, Dave and his wife, Trudy. He was so proud of his grandchildren, Amanda and her husband, Josh Lewis and Travis and his wife, Tawny. His two great-grandchildren, Justin and Brooklyn, will miss their “Grandpa Great.” His brother and sister-in law, Carrell F. and Helen Bradley live in Portland, Oregon, his sister-in-law, Thelma Bradley lives in Boise, and his brother-in-law, Graham Daven (a.k.a. Uncle Bub) lives in Issaquah, Washington. He is also loved and missed by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Nora Bell Stevenson Bradley; and one brother, Thurman Bradley.
Hopefully the stories will not end with Truman’s passing but will be retold many times by family and friends. Thanks to all of you who made his life so memorable.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at the Burley First Presbyterian Church, 2100 Burton Ave., with Newel A. Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery
with military rites accorded by Mini-Cassia veterans.

Carolyn B. Palmer Vogele
Carolyn B. Palmer Vogele, 56, Laramie, Wyo., died Thursday evening, Feb. 22, 2007, at a Laramie Hospital, following a valiant battle with cancer.
She was born April 10, 1950, at Rupert, to Joseph Vao and Martha Darlene Bassett Palmer. She graduated from Minico High School in 1968, earned Bachelors degree in Sociology and a Associated degree in Criminology in 1994 from Idaho State University. She earned a Masters degree in Sociology from I.S.U. in 1996. She was pursuing a P.H.D. from Southern Illinois University and had all but her dissertation completed when she became ill.
She married Robert Vogele Feb. 17, 2006 at Laramie, Wyo.
She had worked for Simplot, as a secretary for a lawyer, as a secretary for a banker, as Assistant College Professor at I.S.U. and Southern Illinois University, with women at the Pocatello Women’s Prison regarding eating disorders, with groups of troubled teens regarding self-esteem, as a managing editor for an international social problems magazine, and as a teacher of Special Education at Laramie, Wyoming.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has been a member of Phi-Kappa-Phi a High Honors Society. She had also served on the Arts Council for the City of Idaho Falls.
She loved and enjoyed her grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting and reading.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; a son, Shane (Nicole) Darnell of Idaho Falls; two daughters, Stacee (Jason) Watson of Laramie, Wyo., and Shawnée (Chris) Brown of Tacoma, Wash.; a step-son, Wayne (DJ) Vogele of Cheyene, Wyo.; 10 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; mother, Martha Darlene Palmer of Pocatello; a brother, Paul V. Palmer of White City, Ore,; two sisters, Paula (Kenny) Tracy of Rupert, and Sylvia (Douglas) Parker of Pocatello.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 2, 2007 at 11 a.m. in Paradise Ward LDS Bringhurst Building, 140 Bringhurst, Chubbuck, with Bishop Roger D. Holyoak conducting. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday evening in the Cornelison — Henderson Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday in the Church.
Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Pocatello.
Jack Steneck
EAGLE — Jack Steneck passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007 at his home in Eagle. For many years he valiantly battled the complications of his congestive heart failure.
Jack was born in Winton, Wyo., to Faustino and Angela Steneck. His parents had migrated from Italy to America to raise their family. Originally, his father worked in a coal mine, and then went on to run the family farm in Rupert.
He was always proud of his Italian heritage and how hard his parents worked to bring up their children, each of whom would graduate from college and go on to work in important fields.
At the age of 19 he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served during World War II as a aviation tail gunner. He would return to Idaho and attend the University of Idaho, where he would serve as president of his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon. After graduation he went on to achieve his maters degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1951.
As a professional, he worked as the state’s Director of Mental Health. His accomplishments would include his writing the initial plans that led to eventual deinstitutionalization at State Hospitals North and South, and at the Idaho State School and Hospital in Nampa. He also prepared a grant that lead to Idaho’s developing the first automated data processing system for mental health. In 1985,he was honored by former Governor John Evans, as one of Idaho’s ’Most Distinguished Citizens’
In 1952 he married his soulmate, Betty. In the years to follow they would spend a lifetime of love and memories, hunting and fishing in Idaho’s mountains, raising Arabian horses and nurturing gardens, lush in prize-winning roses and dahlias.
Although his lifetime accomplishments were endless, his greatest joys were in the love of his family, his gardening and his cooking. Never was a man so devoted to his wife and children. Always a listening ear and a patient guiding hand to help those he loved most. His true pride came in his grandchildren. His grandson Cody who graduated from Boise State University, Keri who attended Boise State until she decided to follow her grandfather in military service and Lindy who was recently accepted into Albertson’s College.
To those who loved him he was “Jackie“, he was “Daddy“, he was “Papa“, he was “My Best Friend“. Our tears will be a reflection of the wonderful life he had and the love that he gave unconditionally to each one of us. We will see the beauty of his smile in the red roses of his garden each spring And when we feel the warm sun touch us our faces each day we will know that his love of life will continue in each of the people he touched everyday. Thank-you God for giving us this wonderful man. We will see you again “Daddy“.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Betty; daughters Kris and Denise; grandchildren Jarad “Cody” Webb, Keri Webb and Lindy Lower; and his devoted toy poodle “Tuffy“.
A funeral service was held on Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. Burial followed at Dry Creek Cemetery.
Eleanor Maurine Schodde
Eleanor Maurine Schodde, a 92-year-old resident of Burley, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at Cassia Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 8, 1914, in Oakley, the daughter of Henry A. and Gail Roe Grohosky. She received her education in Cassia County, graduating from Burley High School and Albion State Normal School. She married Walter F. Schodde on June 6, 1940, in Burley. To this union was born one daughter, Jean.
Eleanor taught school several years in Twin Falls and Paul, yet was privileged to be a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. Her family was of the utmost importance. She loved the quality time spent with family and close friends. Although she resided in Burley, she spent more than 40 years during the summer months living at their ranch in Hailey, which she dearly loved.
Eleanor was a longtime member of the Methodist Church and at the time of her passing, she was the oldest living member of the Burley United Methodist Church. She was also a member of PEO, Chapter BB, and was a past president of the Idaho Cowbells. Additionally, she enjoyed her association with the Better Homes and Garden Club and various Bridge clubs.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean Ann (Rich) Bohn of Issaquah, Washington; and many nieces and nephews and a very special and dear friend, Glenda Mecham.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Henry Grohosky; and five sisters, Margaret Walker, Dorothy Coates, Ruth Matthews, Helen Slavin and Katherine Gano.
The family expresses their sincere love and appreciation to Dr. Wayne Blauer and staff, and to Highland Estates for the compassionate care given to Eleanor.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2007, at the Burley United Methodist Church, 450 E. 27th St., with the Rev. Darcey Gritzmacher officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, and from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the church.
The family suggests memorials be directed to a charity of choice in care of Rasmussen Funeral Home.
