Howard Campbell
Born on Jan. 25, 1913, to Floyd Earl and Agnes Roehnisch Campbell, Howard Campbell spent his first five years of life on a large ranch outside of The Dalles, Ore. His family later moved to Richfield which his father homesteaded.
Howard attended school there where he was involved in band and many sports in high school, which included football and basketball, but his real love was track and field. He ran the mile and placed second (by less than a second) in state his senior year. He attended The University of Idaho in Moscow where he played second trumpet in the ROTC band.
He fell in love with and married the girl of his dreams, Elzada Welch, on Oct. 9, 1938. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1943. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in 2006. They raised one son, Ronald H Campbell, who was the light of their life and who passed on in 1993 of ALS.
Howard was very active in his community, playing the trumpet in a small local dance band orchestra for 25 years and was an honorable priesthood holder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From the first week he was baptized he served in many capacities which includes serving a chapel building mission with his wife. As Building Supervisor he utilized his skill as a carpenter laboring in Burnie, Tasmania, Geelong & Ballarat, Australia, as well as in Sun Valley Richfield and The Dalles, Ore. Many dams in the northwest were also constructed with his skilled labors.
As an avid camper, fisherman, gardener, hunter and builder, Howard loved the outdoors and shared many of those experiences with his grandchildren throughout his life. Everyone who knew Howard loved him, especially for his captivating story-telling ability, apt sense of humor and general love for everyone around him.
As a man who lived for his family, Howard joined his son, Ronald H. Campbell, on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007. Howard is survived by his eternal family, his loving and devoted wife Elzada, his loving and supportive daughter in law Carol, his cherished eight grandchildren: Perri Campbell, Kim Edmonds, Scott Campbell, Shauna Smith, Michael Campbell, Cathy Campbell, David Campbell and Chelsey Campbell, and 15 great grandchildren: Micah, Paris, Cole and Hayden Edmonds, Alyssa, Zach and Porter Campbell, Hunter, Kirby and Jayden Smith, Madeline, Julia and Payton Campbell and Ella Campbell.
The funeral will be held to remember the wonderful life of Howard Campbell in Spokane, Wash., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel on Bowdish at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug., 20. Graveside service will follow at the Micah Creek Cemetery
on Harvard Road near Rockford, Wash.

Terrence Don McCombs
BRANSON, Mo. — Terrence Don McCombs, the son of the late Don J McCombs and Gwenivere Jenks McCombs, passed away on Aug. 10, 2007, in Branson, Mo., of heart failure. He was born June 9, 1945, in Rupert.
Terry was an accomplished musician and some of his performances included singing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City, and as a soloist with the Utah Symphony. Over the years, he worked as a vocal coach in Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, New York City and various cities in Idaho, including Rupert. At the time of his death he was living in Branson, Missouri where he taught his vocal method to many families and singers who preformed in the musical theaters there.
Terry was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a full-time missionary in Austria in 1964-1966. He recently served as a Teacher in his High Priests Quorum and was called to direct the Ward Choir.
He is survived by his son, Christopher McCombs, Ft. Collins, Colorado; two daughters, Mary Ann McCombs, Branson, Mo, and Caroline McCombs, Salt Lake City; and a grand-daughter, London Olivia McCombs, Branson, Mo. He also is survived by his mother, Gwenivere McCombs, Rupert; two sisters, Lou Ann Moellmer, Salt Lake City, and Jeanne McCombs, Eagle; and three brothers, Daryl J McCombs, Aberdeen, Ramon McCombs, Toquerville, Utah, and Dee Brant McCombs, Rupert.
His profound influence will be remembered always in the musical community. He was loved and admired, and will be missed deeply by many. A memorial service was held in Branson, Missouri on August 12, 2007.
A viewing will be held at the Heyburn Second Ward Chapel at 530 Villa Drive, Heyburn, at 10 am Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007. Funeral services will follow at 10:45 am with interment to be at Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley immediately following the funeral services.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel.
Shelby Elijah Williams
BUHL — Shelby Elijah Williams, 87, a longtime Buhl resident, passed away Friday, June 15, 2007, at his home in Buhl.
He was born Dec. 5, 1919, to Shelby Ernest Williams and Mabel (Driskell) Williams. He moved with his family to Buhl in 1928, where he attended Syringa Country School through the 8th grade and graduated from Buhl High School in 1938. While in high school Shelby was active with F.F.A. He later attended University of Idaho majoring in Animal Husbandry and was a member of the livestock judging team and an Alpha Zeta, Ag honorary.
On Jan. 21, 1943, he married Louise Starkey. They had two sons, Bill and Robert. They later divorced. Shelby joined the US Navy in January of 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1945. After leaving the military Shelby returned to the family farm where he farmed, raised livestock, and grazed cattle in Nevada. He is a past member and director of the Salmon River Cattlemen’s Association. During those years he was involved with Farm Bureau, Soil Conservation Service and National Farmers Organization.
In 1966 Shelby leased his farm and worked one year for Thorlief Rangen. In November of 1967 he went to work for Farmers National Bank as a loan officer until 1984. He continued to serve as a director for several more years.
On Oct. 11, 1969, Shelby married Eva Walker and welcomed her children, Kay, John, Steve, and Claire into the family. He was a lifelong member of the Buhl First Christian Church, where he served in numerous positions including teacher and elder. He was actively involved in building the church camp, Kum Bah Yah, and the present church camp, Intermountain Christian Camp located North of Fairfield. Shelby was also active with the Intermountain Church Planters Association and served four years on the board of directors of Northwest Christian College, he was also a supporter of the Emmanuel School of Religion and Boise Bible College.
Shelby was always concerned about the community’s youth. He served in a number of scouting positions for over 50 years and received the Silver Beaver Award. He was an active member of the Buhl Kiwanis Club since 1962. He enjoyed working on church and community projects and most recently with the West End Senior Center. Shelby and Eva were members of the Clear Lake Country Club and enjoyed spending time together golfing. In 1975 they purchased their first pickup and 5th wheel travel trailer. They enjoyed many trips with the Good Sam Club visiting all of the lower 48 states, Alaska, and Canada. For a number of years they spent part of their winters in Arizona. Their travels together created many fond memories; trips to the Holy Land, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, and South America were cherished times. They enjoyed visiting their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; they were always concerned about their welfare and successes.
Shelby is survived by his loving wife, Eva Williams; a sister, Ruby Lou (Ray) Quigley of Buhl,.; one son, Bill R. (Carolyn) Williams of Heyburn,.; two stepdaughters, Claire (David) Robbins of Littleton, Colo., and Kay Spencer (Neil Anderson) of Ukiah, Calif.; two stepsons, John (Lynda) Walker of Bellevue, and Steve (Mary) Walker of Minden, Nev.; seven grandsons and four granddaughters: Adam, Gabe, and Andrew Spencer, Che, Nathan, and Kenneth Walker, Sara Curnow, Darcy Williams, Annie Williams White, Jake and Elizabeth Robbins; seven great-granddaughters; a great-grandson, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Robert E. Williams; a half brother, Sam L. Williams; his stepmother, Hazel; stepsister, Helen and stepbrother, Lewis.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at the Buhl First Christian Church 1005 Poplar Ave., Buhl. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, with family greeting from 6 to 8 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Chapel 130 9th Ave. N. in Buhl.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Buhl First Christian Church Youth or charity of your choice.
Floyd Daniel West
Declo — Floyd Daniel West, a 79-year-old Declo resident, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Cassia Regional Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 22, 1927, in Moore, the son of Ralph K and Mary Mae King West. In 1929 he moved to Rupert and then in the spring of 1931, moved to Springdale and then settled in Declo until his death.
At the age of 16 Floyd and a buddy lied about their age and enlisted in the US Navy, serving in World War II. Floyd was very proud of his military service.
In 1946 Floyd came home and met Florence Cardon, they were married Dec. 19, 1946, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Last December Floyd and Florence celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, which was a milestone and great accomplishment considering Floyd’s health.
Floyd purchased his first farm using his new tractor as down payment. He did custom beet harvesting for 14 years along with farming and in 1951 was awarded Young Farmer of the Year. He owned and operated West Insurance in the West office building for many years.
Floyd held many positions within the church organization which included cubmaster, Priest advisor, and secretary. He received an award for 25 years of service to the scouting program. He belonged to the Cassia Lamb and Wool Pool and also to the Dairy co-op.
Floyd loved to fish, camp, and even gardened up to the time of his death. He loved to travel, we often joked that Dad had a secret suitcase packed in the closet, always in anticipation of the next trip. He visited Europe many times and made many special friends there. He loved Hawaii and spending his winters in Arizona but most of all he loved his family and the special time that he spent sharing memories and stories of his lifetime and will be cherished and held sacred in our hearts. He loved his grandchildren and seldom had a harsh word, the light of his life was his great granddaughter Kloie, who brought special joy into his heart.
Floyd was known for his generosity and compassion. His yearly orange deliveries will be missed.
He is survived by his wife Florence of Declo, his children, Danny (Jann) West of Declo, Randy (Kaye) West of New Mexico, Sandra Albertson of Declo, Suzanne (Brad) Bakelar of Declo, Jeremy Poulton of Declo, Melanie (Cory) Ottley of Rupert, Barry (Hailey) Poulton of Rupert, 14 grand children, three great grandchildren and one on the way. He is also survived by one brother Rex West of Burley. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
The funeral with be held at 11 a.m. Friday June 22, 2007, at the Declo Stake Center with Bishop Tim Darrington officiating. The burial will follow with full military honors at Gem Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2007, at Declo Stake Center and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Floyd and Florence raised many more children than just their own. Their home and hearts always had room.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Mortuary Burley Chapel.
Paige Wells
RUPERT — Paige Wells of Rupert passed away June 12, 2007 at her residence.
She was born Aug. 8, 1965, in Rupert and has resided in Mini-Cassia most of her life.
Her interests include music and art.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents W.E. (Jack) Beeler and Delphia (Dee) Beeler of Rupert and her paternal grandparents Eddie and Betty Wells of Burley.
She is survived by her parents, Edna Wells of Paul, Dennis Wells and her stepmother, Bobbie Wells, of Chugiak, Alaska, two sons, Kirk and Stephen Wells, her brother, Jason (Doc) Wells, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial will be held for family and friends at Emerald (Freddy’s) lake at the Heyburn interchange on June 23 at 6 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the family to defray cost or to Alcoholics or Narcotic anonymous.
Mary Combs Schwindeman
RUPERT — Mary Combs Schwindeman, 91, of Rupert, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2007, in Rupert.
Mary was born July 7, 1915, in Branson, Mo., to Enoch and Judy Stamper Combs. When Mary was 18 months old, her parents moved to Rupert. She graduated from Rupert High School with the class of 1933.
She married Jack Neilson and had two sons, Dennis and Stanley. They later divorced.
In 1962, Mary met her ballroom dancing partner, George B. Schwindeman and they were married Aug. 30, 1962. They have since danced all over the world, traveling after retirement. They have visited places all over the world including Idaho, Washington, Canada, Montana, Oregon, Hawaii, Balboa, Canal Zone (Republic of Panama where George was born), Fiji Islands, New Zealand, Australia, Alaska, New England, Vermont, Maine, New York City, Love Boat Cruise through the Caribbean Islands, Mexico, Orient, Japan, Taipei, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Penang, Malaysia, Singapore, Bangkok, Thailand, and Florida to attend the Panama Canal Society Reunion to meet some of her husband’s class mates, Europe, Mediterranean, and the Greek Islands.
Mary loved babies and always stopped new mothers to tell them how beautiful their baby was. Mary retired from the Public Employees in the State of California in 1973. She became the secretary for the Melody Dance Club (Ball Room Dancing) for twenty years and she also worked on the California Election Board.
Mary returned to Rupert and became a Senior Health Insurance Benefits Advisor (SHIBA) for the Idaho State Department of Insurance working for the seniors and others for 17 years before coming down with the Alzheimer Disease.
On Sept. 1, 2004, she entered Countryside Care and Rehab. Her husband, George, visited and feed her there until she passed away.
George was a veteran of WWII, and with Mary helping, has served and is still serving at age 92 on the Mini-Cassia Veterans Memorial Funeral Detail.
Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the Rupert Cemetery
with Pastor David Poovey officiating. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel, 710 6th Street.
