Esther Lula Read, 88, passed away, Tuesday, November 9, 2004 in Sandpoint, Idaho. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 13, 2004 at the Sandpoint United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darryn J. Hewson officiating.
Esther was born January 2, 1916 in Elgin, Nebraska to Ralph and Mary Elizabeth Whitmore. She grew up and attended schools in Lincoln, Nebraska, and graduated from Jackson High School. As a young girl Esther loved to spend time with her father fixing everything from cars to the family home.
The family moved to Sandpoint in 1939 and joined the United Methodist Church. Esther met and married Ward “Bud” Robinson on October 3, 1947 in Sandpoint. After nearly 39 years of marriage Bud passed away in 1986 and was buried in Willamette National Cemetery
in Oregon. Esther will also be returned to Willamette National Cemetery.
On January 8, 1989, Esther married William “Bill” Read in Sultan, WA. The couple spent many years traveling all over the United States and Canada in their R.V. In 1995, they settled in Sandpoint to be closer to Esther’s family.
Esther is a member of Sandpoint United Methodist Church, Sandpoint United Methodist Women, Martha Chapter #34 Order of the Eastern Star, and a Past Noble Grand in the Rebekah’s Lodge. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, tatting, and woodworking. When she lived in Sultan, WA she volunteered to drive senior citizens to their doctor appointments.
She is survived by her husband Bill Read of Sandpoint; sons Allen Robinson of Tacoma; Errol Robinson of Orofino; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters Hope Jones of Lee's Summit, MO; Barbara Blood of Sandpoint; brother Hugh Whitmore of San Diego, California; sisters in law Betty Deach of Spokane Valley; Margaret Ann Bateman of Vernon, Florida as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bud Robinson, and one sister Jean Evans.

Zoa “Ruth” Lang, 85, was taken home by the angels on Friday, October, 29, 2004 in Sandpoint, ID. Private family services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will take place in the Seneaquoteen Cemetery.
Ruth was born June 23, 1919 in Kenmare, North Dakota to William A. and Flossie C. (Buchanan) Van DeMark. She grew up and attended school in Westby, Montana and Harvard, Idaho. On August 8, 1949 Ruth married the love of her life Bud Lang, Sr. in Plummer, ID. The couple raised three children together.
Ruth loved spending time outdoors with her family, she was an avid fisherman, and hunter, and she was a writer and poet. Her gift of love was shown everyday to her husband, children and grandchildren. They will always treasure the memories of her individual loving notes, special birthday cakes, lullabies sung to sleepy children, and their apples and cheese cut in the shapes of flowers. In addition to these accomplishments, Ruth served as Kootenai’s first woman mayor.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Bud Lang Sr. of Kootenai; daughter Kathleen (Jerry) Doyle of LaClede; and son Buddy (Donna) Lang of Sagle.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren Ralph Wheelbarger, Debbie Wheelbarger, Robin Cleveland, Teresa Wheelbarger, Patty Drobny, Sally Hamilton, Doug Carothers, Becky Lang, and Katie Lang, as well as numerous great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and one sister.

Blanche Elizabeth Miller, 70, returned home to her heavenly father from her home in East Hope, Idaho on Sunday, October 17, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Sandpoint Ward, with President Russ Hiatt conducting. Burial will follow at the Hope Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be held Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint.
Blanche was born on May 8, 1934 in Wichita, Kansas to David and Pauline (Williams) Monroe. She grew up and attended schools in Long Beach, CA. Blanche married Allyn "Bud" Miller on January 20, 1957 in Long Beach. Blanche stayed at home and raised the couple’s three sons.
In 1991, they moved to Hope, Idaho where they remodeled a home overlooking Lake Pend O’Reille. Blanche is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Clark Fork Branch. She is a Past Relief Society President and is a current temple recommend holder. She loved raising her family; enjoyed handwork, church work, reading, and art.
She is survived by her husband Allyn "Bud" Miller of Hope; sons J. Kirk (Natalie) Miller of Sandpoint; Thomas S. (Suzy) Miller of Sandpoint; and Robert D.A. (Marisa) Miller of Orem, Utah.
She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren Vaughn, Brannen, Jade, Kyra, and Terina (husband Etu) Orem, UT; Chancey and Makai Sandpoint, ID; Aaron and Ryan Los Angeles, CA; Shane and Elizabeth Moscow, ID; Tyler, Ali, Cody, McCall, and India Sandpoint, ID; Heather, Indiana; 2 great grandchildren Reina Orem, UT; Zoe, Indiana; her father-in-law T.J. McClendon Hope, ID; brother-in-law Robert (Gloria) Miller Newport Beach, CA; cousins Cheryl Waters Hope, ID; Wayne Waters Encino, CA; and several additional nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and mother-in-law Mildered McClendon.

Charles Elton “Chuck” Schoonover, 70, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2004 at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, October 14, 2004 at the First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint with Pastor Dave Olson officiating.
Chuck was born on June 7, 1934 in Seward, Nebraska to Roley and Fairy Schoonover. He attended grade schools in Gering, NB and Whittier, CA. The family moved to Sandpoint and Chuck attended 7th Grade at Farmin Elementary. Chuck excelled at athletics; in high school he played baseball, football, and track. During his senior year of football he was elected as co-captain and to the North-South all-star team. After graduation in 1952, Chuck attended the University of Idaho on a football scholarship.
Chuck married his high school sweetheart Anita Beauchamp on February 14, 1954 in Sandpoint. He went on to serve his country for two years in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict. After returning stateside, coach Cotton Barlow helped him secure a football scholarship to Columbia Basin College for one year. He then transferred back to the University of Idaho where he completed his football career and graduated with a degree in education in 1962.
Chuck taught and coached at Orofino High School for four years, before returning to Sandpoint. During his 15 year teaching and coaching career at Sandpoint High School he served as assistant football coach, assistant track coach, and eventually head wrestling coach of the wrestling program he and Francis MacDonald helped start. In 1969 he was named “Outstanding Young Educator” by the Sandpoint JC’s, and was named “teacher of the year” seven times.
In 1979, Chuck went to work in Alaska building the pipeline. Three years later he went to work for Boeing working on the minuteman missiles, which took him to Cheyenne, WY and Ogden, UT. He then moved to Everett, WA where he worked as an inspector on the flight line in the airplane division. In 1999, he retired and moved back to Sandpoint.
Chuck was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Golden Spike Elks Lodge #719 in Roy, UT, Lakeside Lodge #42 A.F. & A.M., Moyie Shrine Club, North Idaho Shrine Clowns, Scottish Rite, and Sons of Norway. He also served as equipment manager for the Bulldog football team, cooked hotdogs and hamburgers at the football and basketball concession stand, and dressed up as “Ole” the hobo clown to entertain sick children in area hospitals. Chuck enjoyed spending time with his family, helping children, camping, watching baseball and football on TV, and especially ice fishing with friend Swede Hansen.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anita Schoonover of Sandpoint; son Charles A. (Debbie) Schoonover of Sandpoint; daughter Christy (Dave) Arnot of Everett, Washington; grandson Christopher (Crystal) Schoonover of Sandpoint; granddaughter Lindsay Ann Schoonover of Coeur d' Alene; sisters in law Marilla Kemmis of Sandpoint; Frances Crandall of Sandpoint; and Janet Duncan of Spokane, Washington. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, Sandy Dawson of Denver, Colorado; Roley Schoonover of Sandpoint; Bobby Schoonover of Edmonds, Washington; Jacque Rowlley of Meridian, Idaho; Cathy Gregory of Nampa, Idaho; Barry Crandall of Meridian; and Jerry Duncan of Spokane. In addition, he is survivied by three cousins Mindy (Gary) Gross; Leslie Kniss; and Kelly Danielson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Robert and Warren, and one grandson Charles Schoonover.

Ray Allen Thompson, 67, was called home on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 after a heroic battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, September 18, 2004 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Sandpoint Ward, with Bishop Jeffrey Howell conducting. Private family burial will be held at the Pack River Cemetery.
Ray was born March 24, 1937, in the town of Chewelah, Washington. His life’s adventures included growing up on a farm near Colville, Washington, serving in the U.S. Navy as a cook and a Seabee, and owning and operating a logging company. He married Carol Jean Bader, the girl of his dreams, on March 11, 1961 in St. Maries, ID.
He is survived by his wife Carol Thompson of Sandpoint; sons Allen Thompson of Sagle; Jon Thompson of Maple Valley, Washington; Kevin Thompson of Kalispell, Montana; daughter Carolyn "Kami" Hill of Sandpoint; and 15 grandchildren.

Candance Ann Francis, 56, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2004 in Sagle, Idaho. Private family services have been held.
Candance was born on September 3, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan to Edward and Gloria (Skibicki) Bosek. She grew up and attended schools in Michigan. After graduation, she moved to California where she married Michael Jett in 1977 and together had two beautiful daughters, Micaela and Ashley. She pursued an education in Psychology, completed her PhD in 1989, and was in private practice for 12 years.
Candance remarried in 1994. After attending her 25th class re-union in 1991, she was re-introduced to classmate Ken Francis who soon became her husband. They moved to Northern Idaho in 2000 and Candance continued her practice.
Candance lived the Buddhist philosophy and practiced mindfulness daily. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and being one with nature.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth Francis of Sagle; daughters Micaela Jett of Phiadelphia, PA; Ashley Jett of Sacramento, California; former husband Michael Jett of Sacramento, California; mother Gloria Bosek of Port Austin, MI; and brothers Scott Bosek of St. Clair Shores, MI; Robert Bosek of St. Clair Shores, MI
She was preceded in death by her father Edward, and her sister Connie.

Wayne Stewart “Stewie” Rasmussen, 83, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at his home in Sagle, Idaho. A private memorial gathering will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 12, 2004 at the family home in Sagle. Memorial services will also be held in Rockford, Illinois in November.
Stewie was born on September 13, 1920 in Porter, Wisconsin to Raymond and Helen (Stewart) Rasmussen. He was employed by Commonwealth Edison in Rockford, IL for 40 years. He was an active member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He married Dawn Marston on November 7, 1942 in Rockford. In 1992 the couple retired to their home on Lake Pend O’reille near Sandpoint, ID.
He enjoyed spending his time working on his projects and taking care of his yard. He had an avid interest in model trains, boating and airplanes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Dawn Rasmussen of Sagle; daughters Sandra (Reuben) Streifel of Spokane; Jody (M. Starr) Rasmussen of Phoenix, Arizona; Jill (Steve) Marzorati of Rockford, Illinois; sons Michael (Maureen) Rasmussen of Chandler, Arizona; and Scott Rasmussen of Spokane. He is also survived by six grandchildren Steffan Streifel, Michelle and Anthony Marzorati, Meghan, Meredith and Mitchell Rasmussen as well as numerous nieces and nephews, friends and the neighbor’s dog “Summer”.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to Dr. John Klim, the staff on the cardiac unit at Sacred Heart Hospital, and the Bonner Community Hospice staff.
