May M. Coinson, 97, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at the home of her niece and nephew in Hope, Idaho.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm, Monday, December 6, 2004 at Lakeview Cemetery
with the Rev. Dennis Day of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church officiating.
May was born on July 28, 1907 in Waterbury, Connecticut to Edmond and Marie Coinson, a Swiss couple living in New England, where her father worked for Waltham watches. At the age of 16, her family returned to Europe. May grew up in France and Switzerland and accompanied her mother and her sister’s family when they returned to the U.S. and homesteaded in the Mojave Desert in the fifties.
She eventually followed her nieces and nephews to the Northwest. They are Elisabeth O’Meara and Janou and David Scherb of Sandpoint and Hope, and Anne and Gary Finer and Philippe Lage of Spokane. For the last 24 years, she enjoyed sharing in their lives, and watching their families grow.
May was an avid and skilled embroiderer, and a follower of world events whose loving and constant companion was her cat, Judy. She loved being known as the “chocolate lady” for the hundreds of chocolate bars she would give away just to see people smile.
She represented the families’ treasured European roots and will be greatly missed.

Gerald L. “Jerry” Banks, 57, passed away, Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at his home near Sandpoint, Idaho after a courageous two year battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 3, 2004 at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint with Pastor Barry Johnson of the New Song Bible Church officiating.
Jerry was born in Plymouth, Indiana on May 9, 1947, to Clifford W. and Nancy Banks.
He married his high school sweetheart, Marlene Bedra on September 17, 1966 in Buena Park, CA. Jerry worked for Hughes Aircraft in California as a tool and die maker for 15 years.
He and Marlene moved to Sandpoint in 1974 and built their home. He worked for the Lake Pend Oreille School District Maintenance Department for 30 years. Jerry received an “Employee Achievement Award” in recognition of his high standards of performance and his commitment to quality and service on February 18, 1992.
He excelled at every challenge and was much loved and admired. Jerry’s hobbies were fishing and woodworking. He made beautiful and treasured gifts for family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife Marlene Banks of Sandpoint; son Dale Banks of Spirit Lake; grandsons Clifford and Gary Banks of Spirit Lake; parents Clifford W. and Nancy Banks of Sandpoint; sisters Nancy Kerry of Sandpoint; Sandra Cartwright of Spokane; and Pamela Ogle of Salem, Oregon; and his brother Clifford A. Banks of Sandpoint.

Ruth Ione (Strong) Ross, 89, passed away, Friday, November 26, 2004 in Sandpoint, Idaho. Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in the spring of 2005.
Ruth was born on December 25, 1914 on her parents homestead near Floweree, Chouteau County, Montana the daughter of Fred and Emma Ruth (Viney) Strong. She attended schools in Floweree and Cut Bank, MT where she graduated from high school in 1931. She then attended Northwest Bible Training School in Seattle, Washington, graduating in 1934. She worked as a receptionist/switch board operator at the Deaconess Hospital in Great Falls, MT.
Ruth married Joe Catron Ross on June 30, 1940 in Forgan, Oklahoma in a double wedding ceremony, with her sister Eleanor Jane Strong and William Paul Delamarter. She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sandpoint, where she served in many different positions within the church. She enjoyed reading, hand work, and gardening.
Ruth is survived by her daughters Diane (Donald) Lynch of Sandpoint; Karyn Ross of Germantown, MD; Elayna (Todd) Nelson of Amboy, Washington; son Stephen Ross of Amboy, Washington; adopted daughter Susan Meadows of Germantown, MD; daughter in law Joy Sinclair of Sandpoint; 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Elanor Delamarter of Canby, Oregon; and her borther Ralph (Ann) Strong of Tempe, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe C. Ross, daughter Doreen Anderson, son David Ross, and 2 sisters Lois Horsell and Helen Strong.

Virginia May Friederich, 66, passed away, Friday, November 19, 2004 at her home in Moyie Springs, Idaho. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 2, 2004 at the Crossroads Chapel in Bonners Ferry with Pastor G. W. Morman officiating.
Virginia was born on September 8, 1938 in Rochester, New York to William and Doris Cook. She grew up and attended schools in Rochester. She attended Buffalo State University for two years where she trained to become an art teacher. She married Karl Friederich on August 22, 1959 in Rochester.
During Virginia’s life she worked in Bio-Plastics at the Ward’s Natural Science Establishment in Rochester and later served as the head of food service for the Salvation Army in Kalispell, Montana. The Friederich’s spent about 30 years in northwest Montana from Kalispell to the Yaak. In 1994, they moved to their home in Moyie Springs.
Virginia was baptized in the Missouri Lutheran Church and is a member of the Crossroads Chapel in Bonners Ferry. She also belongs to the Curley Q’s. She loved the mountains and the west. She enjoyed cooking, house keeping, fishing, playing cards, art, painting, making paper cut outs, and reading.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years Karl Friederich of Moyie Springs; son Erik Friederich of Los Angles, California; daughter Kristin (Devon) Griffiths of Kanab, Utah; and five grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother David Cook.

Patricia Lynn VanWagner, owner of Pat’s Patchwork, 60, passed away, Wednesday, November 17, 2004 in Clark Fork, Idaho. Funeral Services will be held at 6:30pm, Saturday, November 20, 2004 at the Hope Elementary School with Pastor Scott Douglas officiating.
Pat was born on August 22, 1944 in Las Vegas, Nevada to John and Lucile Patterson. She grew up and attended schools in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Her senior year the family moved to Watford City, North Dakota where she graduated. Pat married Alan VanWagner on October 4, 1962 in Sunnyvale, California. During the 1970’s they lived in Alberta, Canada, and in 1980 moved back to Watford City. In 1991 they moved to Clark Fork.
Pat's love of quilting lead her to open Pat’s Patchwork where she sold quilting materials and supplies, and specialized in long arm quilting. She is a member of the Cabinet Mountain Calvary Chapel in Clark Fork, the Assembly of God Church in Watford City, Panhandle Piece makers, taught Sunday school and attended bible study. Pat was a founding member of the Clark Fork Valley Quilters. She enjoyed quilting, flower gardening, reading, her grandchildren, and many clients who became friends.
She is survived by her husband Alan VanWagner of Clark Fork; daughters Sherry (Kris) Wold of Clark Fork; Lana (Gary) Brennan of Bowman, North Dakota; six grandchildren Brandon, Michael, Kalynn, Dillion, Heather and Josie; brothers Mike, Bud, Jim and Willie Patterson; father-in-law Jerome VanWagner of Claresholm, Alberta; and special friends Wade, Stacey and Darian Barton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Glen VanWagner, two brothers Jack and Joe Patterson, and mother-in-law Clara VanWagner.

Carla Fahling, 78, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 in Sandpoint, Idaho. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, November 22, 2004 at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Knepper officiating.
Carla was born on October 1, 1926 in Munich, Germany to Johann and Lina Oberkofler. She grew up and attended schools in Garmisch, Germany, specializing in secretary and business schools. Carla went to work for the Red Cross as a translator where she met Raymond Howard Fahling who was stationed in Garmisch with the U.S. Army. The couple were later married in 1949.
Carla immigrated to California, and when Raymond returned from overseas the couple lived on many military bases. In 1968, Carla moved to Jackson Hole, WY where the mountains reminded her of home. She worked for Ski Corporation in their marketing department. In 1982 she moved to San Pedro, CA and went to work for Harbor view House in their medical records department. In 1999 she retired and moved to Sandpoint.
Carla was a member of First Baptist Church and attended Precepts Bible Studies. She enjoyed garage sales, traveling, sewing, knitting, and reading. Living in Sandpoint is the happiest she had been in years. She loved the community and friends she made here.
She is survived by her daughters Anita (Mark) Aurit and Mitzi (Mike) Vesecky, all of Sandpoint; son Brian (Suzie) Fahling of Tupelo, Mississippi; and ten grandchildren.

Brothers, Thane Ashmoore, 2 years old, and Cameron Ashmoore, 8 months, passed away, Saturday, November 13, 2004 due to injuries suffered from a car accident near Clark Fork, Idaho.
Visitation for friends and family will be held, Thursday, November 18th from 6 to 9 pm at the Faith Bible Church in Spokane, WA. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, November 19th at the Faith Bible Church with Pastors Earl Dannen and Don Cambra officiating. Burial will take place at the Fairview Cemetery
in Rockford, WA.
Thane Andrew Ashmoore was born on March 24, 2002 in Spokane, WA to Jeremy and Bethany (Hinkle) Ashmoore. Thane was a very smart and busy little boy. His favorite things were trucks, trailers, and tractors, especially his uncle Tim’s backhoe. He liked to build and fix things with his dad, and have his mom read him books. At night he liked to have the covers pulled clear up to his chin, the sheet touching his cheek, and the door, “shut just a little tiny bit.” When visiting his grandma Terri or grandma Debbie the routine was to read a bedtime story, say his prayers, and have the Three Little Bears told to him – not letting grandma miss any of the important parts. Thane loved Winnie the Pooh, Bob the Builder, the color blue and “lippy” (Thane’s name for Chap Stick). Just recently Thane began to sing “Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star”, and count to 10, he could also spell his name and repeat the Grace at dinner.
The Ashmoore family was blessed again on March 14, 2004 when Cameron Isaac was born in Spokane. Cameron’s big brother loved and protected him; most of the time. He just received his third tooth, rolled to get to where he wanted to, and was almost sitting up by himself. Cameron enjoyed being in his walker following Thane around the house. He always loved to smile. His two favorite toys were his rattle and the vibrating bug in his crib. Quite often you could find Cameron in his parent’s laps, patting the pages of the book they were reading to him.
The boys are survived by their parents Jeremy and Bethany Ashmoore of Fairfield, Washington; maternal grandparents Gene (Sveta) Hinkle of Spokane Valley, Washington; Terri LeTendre Hinkle of Clark Fork; paternal grandparents Brian & Debbie Ashmoore of Valleyford, Washington; great grand parents Lola LeTendre of Granite Bay, California; Nina Hinkle of Spokane Valley; Craig (Faith) Armstrong of Pateros, Washington; uncles Tim Ashmoore of Valleyford; Erik (Nancy) Hinkle of Clark Fork; and Daniel (Irina) Hinkle of Spokane Valley; and cousins Hadassah and David Hinkle of Spokane Valley.
They were preceded in death by four great grandparents Harold Hinkle, Douglas LeTendre, Don and Yvonne Bradley.
