Jean L. Johansen
Grangeville
GRANGEVILLE -- Jean L. Johansen, 76, of Grangeville formerly of Gooding, passed away Sunday at the Grangeville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Jean was born March 18, 1928, at Gooding, Idaho, a daughter of Sam and Minnie Watts Redington. She attended school in Gooding where she graduated from Gooding High School. She worked for First Security Bank before marrying Robert "Bob" Johansen on May 8, 1948, at Gooding. She then worked for Carrico, Oakley and Jones CPA's and Gem Veterinary in Gooding. They moved to Grangeville in 1991 where she helped her husband manage Snowhaven, Grangeville's ski hill, for a year. Mr. Johansen passed away in January 2002.
She did volunteer work for Gooding Memorial Hospital and Auxiliary and was an active member of the Gooding Christian Church and Grangeville Christian Church. She also belonged to the Good Neighbor Club in Gooding and the Melody Squares square dancers also in Gooding.
She enjoyed riding motorcycles with her husband, canning and, most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Sam and Ginny Johansen of Gooding; two daughters, Diane and Bruce Walker of Grangeville and Ralene Gregory of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Molly and Jeremy VanDomelen of Clarkston, Wash., Mili Walker of Grangeville, Mike Walker of Grangeville, Matt Walker of Anchorage, Ark., Robert and Rachel Gregory of Boise and Tyler and Glen of Gooding; great-grandchildren, Noah and Isaac VanDomelen of Clarkston, Wash.; her sisters, Alberta Butler of Gooding and Doris Jones of Moses Lake, Wash.
In addition to her husband and parents, an infant brother, Joseph, passed away earlier.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Grangeville Christian Church with Pastor Harold Gott officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie View cemetery, Grangeville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Blackmer Funeral Home, Grangeville. Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Gooding Christian Church Building Fund or to the Grangeville Christian Church Building Fund.
Fern A. Jensen
Farr West, Utah
Fern Durfee Jensen, 92, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, surrounded by her family.
She was born Aug. 19, 1912, in Almo, Idaho, a daughter of Ivan Leo and MaryAnn Cahoon Durfee.
Fern married
Orson Clyde Bronson on March 7, 1929, in Burley, Idaho. They were later divorced. On March 18, 1944, she married
David Leonard Jensen in Burley, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on March 11, 1966. David preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1982.
She was reared and educated in Almo, Idaho, where she lived for 41 years. She lived in Farr West, Utah, for the past 51 years.
Fern was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by family and attending her grandchildren's activities. Fern enjoyed crocheting, doll making, sewing, quilting, textile painting, gardening and fishing.
Surviving are four daughters, NayDean (Preston) McNeely, Parma, Idaho, Dolores (Boyd) Booth, Malta, Idaho, Merlie (Dale) Redford, Ogden, Utah, and Pat (Kent) Smith, Holbrook, Idaho; 16 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers and three sisters, Mark (Patsy) Durfee, Spokane, Wash., Joe (Linda) Durfee, Burley, Idaho, Curtis (MaryLou) Durfee, Almo, Idaho, Atha (Arlo) Jones, Dillon, Mont., Beth Jones, Malta, Idaho, Ila (Jack) Webb, Pocatello, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David; parents; brothers, Ivan Leo Jr., Wayne and Ellis; granddaughter, Angela Booth Camacho; and great-grandsons, Marvin (Jake) Ward and Richard Menlove.
A funeral will be held at noon Thursday at the Malta, Idaho, 2nd Ward Chapel, 300 N. 100 W.
Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Lindquist's North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Wash. Blvd., North Ogden, Utah, and from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Thursday at the Ward Chapel. Interment will be at Valley View cemetery, Malta, Idaho.
Esther Pfeifle
Twin Falls
Esther Pfeifle, 85, of Twin Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 12, 1918, at Artas, S.D., the 10th child and sixth daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Schweigert's 14 children. She attended country school in South Dakota. On Aug. 18, 1938, she married
Ted Pfeifle at Eureka, S.D. He was the light of her life. They farmed in Dakota for almost 10 years before moving to Twin Falls where she continued to reside for the past 50+ years.
While in Idaho she worked at the bean house, J.J. Newberry's, and the school hot lunch program, working hard all her life, keeping a clean and beautiful home including the 15 years they owned/operated the Twin Falls Motel. She was a tireless hard worker and a generous, caring person to family and friends. We will miss her patient and kind understanding nature as well as her good sense of humor. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Twin Falls.
Surviving are her children, daughter, Dianne (Michael) Friesen, Twin Falls and son, Kenneth (Jean) Pfeifle, Poulsbo, Wash.; brother, Wilbert Schweigert, Baker, Mont.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; numerous nephews and nieces, including Paulette Pfeifle-Ellis of Twin Falls.
She had the wonderful opportunity of visiting and seeing a lot of family during the recent Fourth of July reunion.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Ted Pfeifle; her parents, six sisters and six brothers.
A funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park," 136 Fourth Ave. E., Twin Falls, ID 83301 with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Lunch will follow at the First Baptist Church of Twin Falls. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at the mortuary. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church, 911 Shoshone St. E., Twin Falls, ID 83301.
Ernest Wayne Smith
Bellevue
Ernest Wayne Smith was a much loved son, brother and friend to all that were blessed to know him. He passed away on Sept. 11, 2004, in a tragic accident.
Ernie was born Aug. 20, 1969, in Hillsboro, Ore. He was proud to have been baptized on April 22, 1973, at St. Peters Catholic Church in Shoshone. He grew up and attended schools in Dietrich, Shoshone, Blaine County, Cascade and Boise, Idaho.
After high school he joined the U.S. Army and served his country at Fort Benning, Ga., in the 10th Mountain Division. Upon leaving the military, he returned home to Blaine County to stay. Ernie was a "jack of all trades." He worked on the paving crew of Anderson Asphalt and moved many people through Sun Valley Transfer. Ernie also loved to cut and haul firewood from the mountains. In the winter he plowed snow for his father and did whatever else needed to be done. He was very generous with his many talents by helping his mother and sister with carpentry, plumbing, landscaping and whatever was needed. Ernie had exceptional natural talent and was good at whatever he picked up. He could snow and water ski with such smoothness and agility that it left you envious and awestruck. Ernie was an expert marksman and his favorite hobbies were collecting and shooting guns. Ernie loved being outside. As a child, he enjoyed riding dirt bikes and snowmobiling.
Ernie leaves behind his mother, Ann; father, Ken; sister, Tina; brother, Mike; Uncle Pat McClure and family; and many aunts, uncles and cousins on the Smith side.
He is preceded in death by his beloved dog, Chippy; all grandparents; his Uncle Ernie McClure; his cousin, Alan McClure; and numerous other cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at the Wood River Chapel in Hailey. Following the service there will be a graveside service at 4 p.m. at the Shoshone cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of Wood River Chapel of Hailey, Idaho.
Wanda Mae Summers
Twin Falls
Wanda Mae Summers, 85, of Twin Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at the Twin Falls Care Center in Twin Falls.
Wanda was born on March 9, 1919, in Cedaredge, Colo. Her family and many aunts and uncles soon moved to the Mount Shasta area of California.
This is where Wanda was raised by her mother, Addie McKoon, surrounded by aunts, uncles and many cousins. Wanda excelled at school, winning a scholarship to University of California, Berkeley, where she studied for two years. She married
Ray Summers in 1940. They had two children, a son, Ronald and seven years later a daughter, Shawn. Ray and Wanda were divorced in 1960.
Living in Redwood City, Calif., Wanda worked as an executive secretary for several trucking companies throughout her career. She retired in 1979 and moved to Hagerman, Idaho, in 2000.
Wanda is survived by her daughter, Shawn Summers of Petaluma, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald, in July of 2004.
At Wanda's request there will be no public services. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Reynolds Funeral Chapel, Twin Falls.
Clay Emerson Davis
Clay Emerson Davis, 43, was welcomed by his Heavenly Father, Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, as a result of a motorcycle accident in the South Hills.
Clay was born Feb. 9, 1961, in Walla Walla, Wash., the son of Ernest and Gwen Davis. He spent his early childhood in Tillamook, Ore., and, at the age of 12, moved with his family to a farm north of Jerome. Clay attended schools in Jerome, graduating in 1979. He continued his education at the University of Utah and Oregon State University majoring in aerospace and ROTC. He married
JuLee Craig on June 13, 1981, and they later parted ways. He married
Cathy Ihler on Jan. 20, 2004 in Twin Falls.
Clay loved motorcycle riding, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting and his church. Clay also loved flying and had accumulated over 500 flying hours.
He was a member and also very active in the music program at Twin Falls Reformed, playing bass guitar in the Praise Band. He will be greatly missed by the congregation and the Praise Team members.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Davis of Twin Falls; two children, Gabrielle Dawn Davis of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Brenton Bradford Davis of Fort Benning, Ga.; his parents, Ernie and Gwen Davis of Twin Falls; one stepdaughter, Kayla Ihler of Twin Falls; and by his grandmother, Ruth Witham of Twin Falls.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ronda; his maternal grandfather, Glenn Witham; and by his paternal grandparents, Ray and Sarah Davis.
A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at Twin Falls Reformed Church, with Pastor Brian Vriesman, officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park". Emma Nelson Dayley Walker Chambers
Burley
Emma Nelson Dayley Walker Chambers, a 93-year-old Burley resident, passed away Sept. 12, 2004, at her home.
Emma was born April 12, 1911, in Brigham City, Utah, to Fred Carl and Emma Lovisa Wight Nelson.
She graduated from Box Elder High School and trained in nursing at Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, where she met her future husband, Carroll Bates Dayley, they were married
in Brigham City, Utah, in 1931. They moved to Filer and farmed with the Dayley family. Eventually moving to Murtaugh, then to Burley, Idaho, in the Pella area. Carroll passed away Jan. 2, 1965.
She worked at the Burley Nursing Home on Miller Avenue. Emma and Stella Haycock owned and operated their own nursing home for a few years. Mom eventually certified as an LPN from the Burley hospital. She became reacquainted with Vance Walker and married
him in 1969. They had six happy years traveling and sight-seeing until he passed away. She eventually married
Howard Chambers and has resided in their home in Burley.
Emma is survived by her six children, Carroll Fred (LaDean) Dayley, Heyburn, Idaho, Emily June (Duane) Vickery, Emmett, Idaho, Linda (Mike) Donner, Algona, Wash., Edward (Beth) Dayley, Centerville, Utah, Marie (Bill) Martindale, Meridian, Idaho, and Carl (Maria) Dayley, Burley, Idaho; one stepchild, Shirley (Jack) Cary; stepdaughter-in-law, Shirley Rae Chambers; 23 grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Marcus Lowell, Carolyn and Jerry.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Milton, Elmer and Warren; son-in-law, Dale Nielson; grandson, Kenneth Dayley; and one stepson, Gale Chambers.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3rd and 7th ward chapel, 2200 Oakley Ave., with Bishop Mark Fillmore officiating. Friends may call between the hours of 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Hansen Mortuary Burley Chapel, 321 E. Main, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Gem Memorial Garden cemetery.
Erica Lynn Garcia Martinez
On Sept. 11, 2004, the world lost an incredible woman with a passion for life, family and Jehovah God, due to a brief illness.
Erica Lynn Garcia Martinez was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Juan Ricardo Garcia Sr. and Cindy Lynn Garcia on May 20, 1978. In 1984, Erica and family moved from Hansen, Idaho, to Madera California. She graduated from Madera High School in 1996, attended San Joaquin Valley College and was certified as a Registered Medical Assistant.
From the time "Ed" was young, she showed an amazing talent for writing and wrote several stories including "The Chocolate Shoes" for her family. She expressed her soul in poetry, stories and long, beautiful letters to her family.
She returned to Twin Falls and met and married
Melquiadez Martinez in 1999. Erica gave birth to her beautiful son, Daniel Melquiadez (age 4). Her joy increased by the birth of her twins, Kevin Austin and Eric Matthew (ages 3).
Erica's family returned to California where she enjoyed a career in modeling. Because of Ed's commitment to her family, she put modeling behind her and began a career as a financial manager with Selma Honda. With the help of her co-workers, she excelled and found her natural profession.
Erica's passion for life allowed her to experience a lifetime in her short 26 years. Erica was an intelligent, beautiful daughter, sister, wife and mother, but most importantly, an incredible young woman that will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
Erica is survived by her husband, Melquiadez Martinez; and sons, Daniel, Kevin and Eric; parents, Juan Ricardo Sr. and Cindy Garcia of Madera, Calif.; her brother, Juan Ricardo (Chantal) Garcia Jr., Madera, Calif; and sister and best friend, Lisa Marie Garcia, Los Angeles, Calif.; her maternal grandparents, Leonel and Enedine Sanchez, Twin Falls, Idaho; and paternal grandparents Juan and Simona Castro, Madera, Calif.; and great-grandmothers, Zulema Hernandez of Madera, Calif., and Margaret Martinez of Twin Falls, Idaho. Our beloved Erica is also missed by her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Noe Garcia.

Mark Louis Papak
Twin Falls
Mark Louis Papak, 53, of Twin Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Feb. 11, 1951, in Gary, Ind. Mark was with the U.S. Air Force for 13 years, serving at Luke Air Force Base, Dyess Air Force Base, in Korea and Shimya.
He is survived by his parents, Louis and Jean Papak; sister, Lisa Jacobsen; brother, Brian Papak; children, Justin, Evan, Desa, Adam Christensen; daughter, Misha; and by three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Park, with Bishop Glenn Arrington conducting. Military rites will be performed by the Magic Valley Area Veterans and Auxiliaries. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White Mortuary.
