Rex Leroy Sharp
Burley
Rex Sharp passed away on Aug. 12, 2004, after a short struggle with cancer.
He was born to George and Myrtle Sharp on May 23, 1934, in Oakley, Idaho.
Rex attended school in Oakley, graduating from Oakley High School and shortly after graduation he joined the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force he was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. He also served in the Korean War.
After he was discharged from the service he moved back to Burley. Here he worked as a mechanic and a farmer. Rex loved working as a farmer and caring for the few horses he had. He enjoyed hunting and camping in the South Hills along with camping and fishing on the Salmon River in Stanley, Idaho. He also liked pheasant, goose and duck hunting in the Cassia Valley. Some of his favorite toys and hobbies were his street bikes, talking on the CB radio and listening to his scanner.
Rex loved to garden, too. He always had the best looking geraniums on his library table at home. He raised and canned vegetables for years while living on the outskirts of Burley.
Rex is survived by his five children, Darby (Stephanie) Sharp of Eureka, Utah, Daphne (David) Felker of Missoula, Mont., Debra (Gary) York of Pineville, La., Gary Sharp of La., and Linda (Paul) Gildwarg of Pineville, La.; 12 grandchildren, Jessie Marie Sharp and Tia Jo Sharp of Cedar City, Utah, Jesse Aaron Felker and Henry Eli Felker of Missoula, Mont., Stacey York and Nick York of Pineville, La., Michael and Adam Gildwarg of Pineville; and three great-grandchildren; six brothers and sisters, Inez Flannery of Fairfield, Calif., Don (Rose) Sharp of Pleasant Grove, Calif., George (Barbara) Sharp of Salem, Ore., Dorothy (Claude) Mabey of Burley, Larry (Peggy) Sharp of Burley, Linda (the late John) Goin of Burley and Jay (Vicki) Mabey of Burley; and Aunt Stella, Aunt Elsie, Aunt Midge all of Burley, Aunt Ora Harris of Flint, Mich., and Uncle Delroy Catlin of McCall, Idaho.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Myrtle Mabey, and his father, George Sharp.
A memorial service and potluck will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at Salmon Park, Pavilion No. 4. All friends and family are welcome to join us in celebrating Rex's life.
At Rex's request, cremation will take place under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley.
Aleen Louise Miller Underwood
Burley
Aleen Louise Miller Underwood, 81, a resident of Burley for most of her life, passed away Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Aleen was born Feb. 28, 1923, in Burley, the daughter of John O. and Anna E. Miller. As a young girl, Aleen's family moved to California where she graduated from high school in Los Angeles and met her husband, Francis Byron Underwood. Aleen and Francis were married
in Los Angeles on Jan. 24, 1942.
Aleen and Francis had three sons. While Francis was in the Navy, they were stationed in Kansas where Michael was born in 1943, and Minnesota where Pat was born in 1945. Following her husband's discharge from the Navy they moved to Burley and had their third son, Lee, in 1951. Aleen and her husband owned and operated the Grandview Grocery in Burley until they moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1964 where Aleen helped run the family's drive-in restaurant. After the death of her husband in 1977, Aleen returned to Burley and lived there the remainder of her life.
Aleen enjoyed crocheting and was a very talented oil painter. She painted many beautiful pictures for her family and friends. She was very active with the Burley Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed her friends there and loved playing cards with them often.
Aleen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Donald Miller.
She is survived by her brother, Marvin Miller, her three sons, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Aleen had requested to be cremated and placed beside her husband in Spokane, Wash. A celebration of her life will be held in Burley, the date and place will be announced later.
Mary Estella Santiago
Gooding
Mary Estella Santiago, age 54, of Gooding, passed away Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Boise.
Mary was born June 12, 1950, in Santa Rosa, N.M., the daughter of Jose and Maria Romero Salas. She was raised in New Mexico and it was there that she received her education.
It was later, on Oct. 31, 1988, that she married
Johnny Santiago in Torrington, Wyo. After their marriage the couple resided in Scotts Bluff, Neb., until moving to Gooding in 2000.
Mary had been employed as a housekeeper in Sun Valley until ill health forced her retirement.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny; three sons, Joe, Michael and Roy; daughter, Esther Urbina; mother, Maria Salas; brothers, Alex, David and Larry Salas; sisters, Kathy Mendez, JoAnn Gonzalas, Christina Bustillos and Yolanda Salas; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jose Salas; and four brothers, Joe, Bobbie, Eugene and Jack.
A family viewing will be at 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at Demaray Funeral Chapel in Gooding.
Rosa Garcia Gonzalez
Twin Falls
Rosa Garcia Gonzalez, 64, of Twin Falls, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center.
Rosa was born Feb. 6, 1940, in Articia Wells, Texas, to Santos and Maria Garcia. Her greatest desire is that all her family come to know God.
It was best seen in the way she spent her time. She loved to talk to people about Jesus. She enjoyed being around her family, traveling, music, singing and classic cars.
Rosa is survived by her children, Daniel Ramos, Richard and Jorgina Ramos, Ruben and Kristina Gonzalez, Ruth and Antonio Doria, Joe and Alma Gonzalez, Raquel Garcia and Eddie and Shari Gonzalez; 26 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Rosa's life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at the Living Waters Christian Community, 262 Fifth Ave. E., Twin Falls, with Pastor Vern Bishop and the Rev. Saul Saldana officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Family will greet friends from 4 until 8 p.m. on Sunday at Reynolds Funeral Chapel, Twin Falls.
Merlen "Mert" Stapleman
Merlen "Mert" Stapleman, age 64, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his daughter, Teresa, family and special friends on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004.
He was born Aug. 10, 1940, in Rupert, Idaho, the child of Clayton and Pauline Stapleman. Mert was raised and attended school in Rupert. He married
Diann Ballard in October of 1958 in Elko, Nev., but later divorced. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Mert moved to Ketchum in 1968 and started his own concrete business, Bear Construction. He later worked for Paul Gibbs for 25 years until he retired.
Mert was an avid hunter, hunting animals such as bear, elk and javelinas with a pistol. He truly enjoyed kayaking, gold mining with his friend, Hoppy, and diamond hunting in Arkansas. Mert spent his summers in Ketchum and his winters in Arizona and Texas.
Survivors include his daughter, Teresa Franks; and granddaughters, Tosha and Terra all of Burley; his special friend who has cared for him during his recent illness, Jean Davis of Hagerman; his sister, Debby Ford of Richland, Wash.; his brother, Richard Stapleman of Sun City, Ariz.; his sister-in-law, Teresa Stapleman of Ketchum; two great-grandchildren, Seriya and Isiah; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Those preceding him in death were his parents and his brother, Mike Stapleman.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at Trail Creek, 1 mile past the Coral Creek turnoff. At 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, a celebration of his life will be held at his home away from home, the Casino in Ketchum. Cremation preceded the services.

Ralph 'Casey' Casad
Hagerman
Ralph "Casey" Casad, 84, of Hagerman, died Aug. 10, 2004, at the Gooding County Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with emphysema.
He was born July 7, 1920, in Omak, Wash., the second son of Elmer and Blanche Casad. In the early part of the 1930s, the Casad family moved to Minidoka Dam. Ralph was truly an "Acequia Boy." Running wild horses from Minidoka Dam to American Falls to Arco, Idaho, kept him busy as a boy. After graduating from Rupert High School, he worked with his father at Minidoka Dam until he enlisted in the Army. He served in the Philippines during World War II where he earned numerous medals, bronze and silver stars. Ralph was very proud to be an American and very proud of his county.
He married
Jacqueline Hess on Feb. 27, 1948, in Rupert where they raised two children, Jim and Cathy. Ralph worked all day as a mechanic and trained horses and riders at night. Ralph retired from the Bureau of Reclamation after 33 years and started his dream career -- horse trainer extraordinaire.
In 1975, he and Jackie moved to Billingsley Creek Ranch in Hagerman to train horses. Ralph was a true cowboy. He loved to work cattle on a horse. He loved to fly-fish mountain lakes on horseback. He was a Pro Rodeo Calf Roper, a jockey, a chariot racer and a horse show judge. But most of all Ralph was a trainer. Hundreds of horses, riders, two Miss Rodeo America's and the likes of Gary Stevens took riding lessons from Ralph. His horsemanship plaudit list is long.
Ralph always took care of his family and friends. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved him. He taught them about the goodness of people and life. Grandpa was a great story teller. Ralph will be missed but never forgotten.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at the Hagerman Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Hollomon officiating. Cremation arrangements will follow the service under the direction of Demaray Funeral Service in Gooding. Family members and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Demaray's Gooding Chapel.
George J. Roessler
Shoshone
George J. Roessler, 87, a resident of Shoshone, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at the Shoshone Rehabilitation and Living Center in Shoshone.
George was born on Nov. 16, 1916, in Shoshone, the son of J.E. and Barbara Roessler. He attended school in Shoshone.
George married
June McNeil on Nov. 18, 1939, in Pocatello, Idaho. He was an active member of the Idaho Wild Life Federation, the Idaho Well Drillers Association and served as a City Councilman in Shoshone. His greatest love was hunting and fishing with his family and friends.
George is survived by his wife, June Roessler of Shoshone; his three sons, Carl Roessler of Pasco, Wash., Bob Roessler of Shoshone and Ernie Roessler of Idaho Falls; one brother, Ray Roessler of Gooding; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Roessler; two sisters, Ethel Martin and Irene Schwager; and one grandson, Rusty Roessler.
A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Demaray's Shoshone Chapel with Roger Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Shoshone cemetery. Family members and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Demaray's Shoshone Chapel.
Adrian Dale Slane
Gooding
Adrian Dale Slane of Gooding, Idaho, passed away on Aug. 11, 2004.
Dale was born in Seguach, Colo., on July 26, 1925, to Martin and Lillis Slane. He attended school in Bliss, Idaho. He served on the U.S.S. West Virginia during his time in the Navy.
He married
Wynarda Woodhead and they had two children, Stephen D. Slane of Cleveland and Chris (Skip) Harmon of Hagerman. He married
Jane Moore and this brought four more children into his life, Greg (Peggy) Moore, Roger (Teri) Moore, Becky (John) Spafford of Twin Falls and Roxanne (Cal) Hodges of Moscow. He married
Ruth Marie Leroy and this brought one more child to his life, Kimberly Ann (Miller) Huntley of Columbia, S.C. He had 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Neil and Keith; one sister, Gertrude; and brother-in-law, Walt Minard.
He is survived by all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois; and his wife.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug.16, 2004, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Gooding. A private family burial will follow at the Hagerman cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Gooding Elks Lodge, Box 254 Gooding, ID 83330.
Peter 'Pete' M. Link
Hansen
Peter "Pete" M. Link, 65, died peacefully at his home in Hansen, Idaho, on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004. On that day, many of his dear friends were able to share time with him and say good-bye.
Pete was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, on May 18, 1939, the only child of Peter and Charlotte Mohr Link, who were both from Germany. He was raised on a farm south of Hansen and lived his entire life enjoying the open farmlands and beautiful view of the South Hills. Pete graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1957 and went on to college at the University of California, Davis and received a bachelor's degree in animal husbandry and agronomy. He served in the Army National Guard as a crew chief in a tank battalion.
Pete was very involved and worked hard in the family run businesses, including farming, ranching and banking. The family farm was established in 1904 and Pete was well known in the Magic Valley. He was very generous, donating to his church and community.
Pete led a very adventurous and interesting life. He had many acquaintances and devoted friends from all walks of life. The best way to describe Pete is that he was a free spirit. He was very enthusiastic and mastered anything that he put his mind to. Along with being a farmer and rancher, he was also a successful businessman, accomplished pilot, and was elected to the Board of Trustees for Twin Falls Bank and Trust.
Pete enjoyed deep sea fishing, snowmobiling, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, scuba diving, and working with dogs, just to name a few of his many interests. He was a gun enthusiast, history buff, loved his Doberman's, a good stiff Gentleman Jack and a fine cigar.
People will remember Pete for his quick wit and many one-liners. Some of the favorites are "Don't forget where you put me," "I'm not through with you yet," and "I may have been born at night, but NOT last night!" Pete was sensitive, loving, and a giving individual and will be missed by many. One of his favorite sayings, "If someone gives you a gift, just say thank-you." Thank You, Pete for all your many gifts and memories.
Pete is survived by his one son, Peter V. Link; a grandson; his dog, Raider; and a number of close friends. His parents, Peter and Charlotte Mohr Link, preceded him in death.
A celebration of Pete's life will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at Reynolds Funeral Chapel with Fr. Perry Dodds officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park with military honors by area veterans and auxiliary. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at Reynolds Funeral Chapel in Twin Falls.
