Frank Leon McCreary
Hansen
Frank Leon McCreary, 50, of Hansen, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, from injuries received in an accident near Kemmerer, Wyo.
He was born July 17, 1953, in Twin Falls, the son of Frank and Dorothy Sears McCreary. He began his schooling in Hansen, moved to Oklahoma with his family for a few years, returning to Hansen to complete his education. He married
Martha Purdy in 1970 in Twin Falls. Frank worked at Swift & Company protein processors, and at age 25 decided to become a truck driver. He worked for Ray & Rex Wells, for a time later owned his own truck, and for the past 17 years had been an over the road driver for Austin's Express.
He was a man of many talents who could fix or build anything. The joy of his life was his children and grandchildren, but he enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting coins and Texaco Truck Banks, raising chickens and gardening.
He is survived by his wife Martha McCreary, of Hansen, his children, Tracy Lee (Pepper) McCreary and Gregory Dean McCreary, both of Hansen; Michelle Ann (Zeke) Watkins of Twin Falls; his parents, Frank and Dorothy McCreary of Hansen; five grandchildren, Rachell Dawn, Chealyse Leigh, Ashlie Rae, Autumn Rose and Cherie LaPriel; two brothers, Fred (Jeannie) McCreary of Twin Falls and Gary (Debbie) McCreary of Durham, Calif.; and by one sister, Jenny (Brad) Brown of Parma, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his son Kevin Alan McCreary.
Funeral services for Frank will be conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park," with Bishop Kevin Stanger conducting.
Charlene Gericke
Pocatello
Charlene Gericke, 63, of Pocatello and formerly of Gooding, Idaho, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004, at her home.
She was born Nov. 27, 1940, in Greenfield, Mo., the daughter of Martin L. Gericke and Reba Dodd Gericke.
She graduated from Gooding High School in 1958 and moved to Pocatello with her family in 1958. She attended Henegers Business College in Salt Lake City for one year and Grimm's School of Business in Pocatello. She worked for Murphy Finance and then FMC for 29 years. She retired in 1999.
She was an FMC Credit Union committee member for many years and secretary of the bowling league. She was a volunteer for Portneuf Medical Center Hospital and the Pocatello Police Department.
She was a friend to everyone she met and enjoyed her family and many friends.
She is survived by two brothers, Charles W. Gericke, Lake Tahoe, Nev., and William R. (Rosemary) Gericke, Pocatello, Idaho; two nieces, Robin Gericke, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, and Susan Rittenhouse, Pocatello, Idaho; three great-nieces, Liz (T.J.) Bristol, Helen (Jason) Mori and Emily Rittenhouse; two great-nephews, John Matkin and Wesley Rittenhouse; one great-great niece Ayanna Mori; and three great-great nephews, Trysten Bristol, Trevor Bristol and Kayle Matkin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
A graveside funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, at the Elmwood cemetery in Gooding, Idaho. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening, June 23rd, at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.
Freda G. Livingston
Filer
Freda G. Livingston, 96, of Filer, died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Bridgeview Estates, Twin Falls, Idaho.
Freda was born March 12, 1908, in Eva, Ala., to Louella Holmes Livingston and Miles Gregory Livingston. She graduated from Falkville High School and Florence State Teacher's College in Alabama where she was an outstanding basketball player. She taught school for several years until the outbreak of World War II when she joined in the defense of her country at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York. She later lived and worked in Ogden, Utah, before retiring at age 75 and moving to Filer in 1983.
Freda was an avid sports fan, particularly of the Atlanta Braves, and an enthusiastic traveler. She always attended the annual Livingston family reunion in Alabama, until health concerns prevented travel. She was a member of the Filer United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Rubel Bennett, Reno, Nev., longtime friend, Priscilla Parsons of Filer, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents and 11 sisters and brothers.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at the Filer cemetery with the Rev. Sandra Kimbrow officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Farmer Funeral Chapel, Buhl. The family suggests any memorials be made to the Filer United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.
Opal Senften Crain
Opal Senften Crain passed away May 14, 2004, at her mountain home in Florissant, Colo., with her family at her side.
Opal was born Nov. 19, 1920, at Castleford, Idaho. Her parents, Fredrick and Lela (Morgenstern) Senften were early settlers of Castleford. She graduated from Castleford High School in 1939. After graduation she went to southern California and worked for Douglas Aircraft the duration of World War II.
In 1947 she married
James Morris Crain in Hunington Beach, Calif. To them were born twins, Linda and David Crain, on Aug. 28, 1948.
Linda is a public school teacher in Lynwood, Calif. David is an engineer with Lockheed-Martin in Colorado Springs, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Fred, Rolly and Dan Senften; and a sister, Claire (Wayne) Williams.
Surviving are her husband, Morry, of Florissant; her children; and a sister, Ella (Senften) Suhr of Paul, Idaho.
Services were held at Mt. Memorial, Divide, Colo., on May 20, 2004, under the direction of Homecare and Hospice. Memorials may be made to Prospect Homecare and Hospice, P.O. Box 6278, Woodland Park, Colo., 80866, or any homecare and hospice.
Keith R. Patterson
Keith R. Patterson, 71, died June 19, 2004, after a valiant struggle with bone marrow cancer.
Keith was born Dec. 11, 1932, to William and Ethel Dix Patterson. Keith was the seventh of eight children. He was raised in Carey and graduated from Carey High School in 1951. Shortly after, he joined the Navy and served our country in the Korean War. He married
Karen Arlene Marsh in the Idaho Falls Temple July 26, 1957.
A hard working and dedicated man, he worked 28 years for Western Construction Company. His spirit of service extended to his church. Keith served The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a member of three bishoprics, a Boise and Orlando Temple worker and in the scouting program. His church work culminated in a 18-month mission on the church ranch in Florida.
Keith was a devoted family man. He was married
for 47 years and the loving father of nine children. He enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, hunting and rock collecting. He was an example of honesty, forgiveness and hard work.
Keith will be missed by his family and friends.
Keith was preceded in death by a son, grandson, a sister, three brothers, and his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene; five sons, Randy (Julie) and Craig (Linda) both of Carey, Blaine of Filer, Ross (Stephanie) of Eagle and Rance (Julie) of Meridian; three daughters, Marsha Patterson (David) of Nampa, Valerie Mecham (Krea) of Cedar City and Alana Fletcher (Craig) of Wasilla, Alaska; 29 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three sisters.
Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, at the Carey LDS Stake Center with Bishop Vern Jolley conducting. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the care of Wood River Chapel of Hailey, Idaho.
Allan Eugene Bates
Kimberly
Allan Eugene Bates, 71, of Kimberly, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 3, 1932, in Twin Falls, the son of Ormus Merritt and Esther Glyllenswan Bates. He was reared and attended schools in Twin Falls and graduated from Twin Falls High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married
Patricia A. Glenn on March 31, 1953, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Mr. Bates worked as a bookkeeper for many years, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed spending time gardening.
He is survived by four children, Derald O. "Karolyn" Bates of Dilworth, Minn.; Lisa (LaMar) Kent of Corinne, Utah; M. Annette Grove of Brigham City, Utah; Charlotte (Rick) Nielsen of Kuna, Idaho; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park."
Harold J. Armstrong
Burley
Harold J. Armstrong, of Burley, passed away June 12, 2004.
He was born Feb. 25, 1933, in Saginaw, Mich. He married
Anne Trudeau, Aug. 16, 1952. He worked for Consumers Power for 20 years and Idaho Power for 25 years. He owned the Reloading Center for 28 years.
Survivors include children, Mary (Louis) Monter, Rose (Bill) Brinn, Susan Eguilior, Joe (Susan) Armstrong, Loretta Ogawa; brother, Richard A. Armstrong, Freeland, Mich.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
There will be a rosary at 7 p.m., Tuesday, St. Teresa Little Flower Catholic Church, 1601 Oakley Ave., Burley. The funeral will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 23, at the church.
Kristina Swenson
Jerome
Kristina Swenson, 58, of Lakewood, Calif., and former area resident, died Aug. 1, 2004 at her home.
She was born Nov. 1, 1945, at Wendell, the daughter of Paul and Elda Barker Swenson. She was reared and educated at Idaho Falls and then graduated from Brigham Young University with bachelor's degree. Kristina moved to California 35 years ago and began working in the Aerospace Industry and at the time of her death was a logistics specialist for McDonnell Douglas/Boeing.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, served as a worker at the Los Angles Temple and a member of the Southern California Mormon Choir.
Survivors include her brothers, Marvin (Ilona) Swenson of Payson, Ariz., and Marvin (Audrey) Swenson of Las Vegas, Nev.; two aunts, Iola Richardson Lee, and Abby (Leo) Pyne; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an aunt, Edna Neal; and two uncles, Art Barker and Lawrence Swenson.
Funeral services for Kristina Swenson will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 11, 2004, in the Hove Robertson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Jerome cemetery. No viewing is planned.
Leonard James Slegers
Jerome
Leonard James Slegers, 58, of Jerome, passed away on Aug. 7, 2004, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Leonard was born on Sept. 23, 1945, at Artesia, Calif., son of George and Dorothy Slegers. He grew up on a dairy in California where he was a truck driver until he was drafted and served in the Vietnam War in 1967. He married
Betty Lauerman and they had three children, Dusty Dean, Laci Elizabeth and Nicole Virginia. Leonard and Betty were later divorced. He moved to Wendell, Idaho, in 1979 when he went into the dairy business for a short time before he went back to his real love, driving trucks.
Leonard loved being outside and the freedom of the road. He could have a good time anywhere, with anyone. He loved and appreciated his family and many friends.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Slegers; his three children, Laci (Pete) Everett, Nicole and Dusty Slegers; two brothers, George (Darlene) Slegers and Jake (Lori) Slegers; and one sister, Gloria Slegers. He is also survived by one grandchild, Gweneth Everett along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, with the Rev. Jeffrey Porter officiating at the First Presbyterian Church located at 262 East Avenue "A" in Jerome. No viewing is planned
Cremation arrangements took place under the direction of the Hove-Robertson Funeral Chapel in Jerome.
Nile L. Casten
Twin Falls
Nile L. Casten, 94, of Twin Falls, passed away Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at SunBridge Care and Rehab.
Nile was born March 10, 1910, in Grafton, Neb., the son of George and Maude Casten. He married
Verna Villers on Sept. 28, 1938, in Hastings, Neb. After their marriage they moved to Richmond, Calif. He was drafted into the Army on July 24, 1945, and served until Nov. 9, 1946, during World War II. After his discharge they moved to Buhl where he worked for the Jerome CO-OP and Creamery. He went to work in Twin Falls for the Ida Gem Dairymen where he was the assistant manager. He retired from there in 1972. Nile was a 50-year member of the Loyal Order of Moose #305 in Buhl as well as a member of the First Christian Church in Twin Falls.
Nile is survived by his wife, Verna of Twin Falls; two sons, Wayne (Maxine) Casten of Puyallup, Wash., and Neil Casten and his friend, Deena of Elko, Nev.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and five sisters.
At Nile's request no services are planned and cremation will take place under the direction of White Mortuary and Crematory "Chapel by the Park" in Twin Falls.
