Thelma G. Cox
BUHL -- God called His loving daughter, Thelma G. Cox, 93, home on Maundy Thursday, March 24, 2005. Thelma died peacefully in Filer, Idaho, with her daughters at her side.
Thelma was born on Aug. 21, 1911, in Rayville, Mo., to Willis and Emma Crowley. Thelma grew up on a farm in Rayville, the youngest of eight siblings.
After graduating high school, Thelma met the love of her life, Sebron Cox. They were married
and together raised three lovely daughters.
In 1942, the family moved to Washington. Thelma cared for her family in their home in Seabeck, Wash. Thelma enjoyed homemaking, gardening, baking, sewing, crocheting and quilt making.
Thelma actively served as an usher and choir member in the United Methodist Church throughout her adult life and will be remembered as a devout Christian. Her fervent prayers have touched the lives of countless friends and family members.
In 2000, after being widowed, Thelma joined her daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Jim Shriver in Buhl, Idaho. She continued to live a spirited life, never missing an opportunity to ride on a water slide, snowmobile or float in the ocean.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Sebron Forest Cox; her daughter, Janet Lorene; and grandson, William Peters, and is survived by her three daughters, Clarita Poole-Hudock of Alexandria, Va., Loretta Shiver of Buhl, Idaho, and Venita Davis of Portland, Ore. She leaves the legacy of nine beautiful grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Thelma's abundant life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 28, 2005, at the Buhl United Methodist Church. A final viewing at 6 to 8 p.m. on Easter Sunday, March 27, at Farmer's Funeral Chapel, Buhl, Idaho, will precede this celebration of life.
Thelma will be buried later in Bremerton, Wash., along side her beloved husband.
Katherine Irene Wymer
RUPERT/JACKSON -- Katherine Irene Wymer, 49, of the Rupert/Jackson area, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at her home due to many long-term health problems.
She was born May 24, 1955, in California to William and Betty Webb. She enjoyed many things, going to church and being with friends there. She also enjoyed working with ceramics, indoor gardening and she loved to collect gem stones.
Katherine is preceded in death by her mother, Betty, and is survived by her father, William; her husband, Tom D. Wymer; her three sons, Billy, Tony and David Fullmer; one granddaughter, Rose Irene Fullmer, whom she loved to spend time with; two brothers, Bob and Randy Webb; and her sister, Carrie.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel with Pastor Dan Lovelace officiating.
Josephine 'Jo' Hillis
RUPERT -- Josephine "Jo" Hillis, an 84-year-old Rupert resident, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Minidoka Memorial Hospital.
Jo was born Aug. 12, 1920, in Shreveport, La., the daughter of Guy W. And Lavonia Mertz. She received her education in Shreveport. She worked for the Caddo Parish Department of Public Welfare in Shreveport and the supply depot at Barksdale Field Air Force Base in Bossier City, La. She married
Edward F. Hillis on March 14, 1947, in the Barksdale Air Force Base Chapel. Jo worked part-time for the Minidoka County News in Rupert, served as clerk for the Minidoka Soil and Water Conservation District and worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in both Rupert and Burley. She served one term as Minidoka County Commissioner and also served on the County Planning and Zoning Commission. She was a group leader and council officer of the Camp Fire Girls, supervisor with the Minidoka Soil and Water Conservation District and held various offices in the Rupert United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; two daughters, Jo Anne Frederiksen of Rupert and Joyce Orem of Idaho City; one granddaughter, Leslie Frederiksen and her fiance, Nick Harvey of Nampa; and one niece, Billie Barnhardt of Pensacola, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2005, at the Rupert United Methodist Church, 605 H St. with Pastor Keith Wise officiating. Burial will follow at the Rupert cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2005, at Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel, 710 Sixth St.
Betty (Robison) Johnson
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Betty Maxine Johnson, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away March 13, 2005, at Kennewick General Hospital, Kennewick, Wash.
Betty was born in Idaho Falls to Maxine and Forrest Varney on Feb. 26, 1928. She was raised by her mother and A.J. Prior. She attended school in Hansen, Idaho, and married
Ken Engel in 1944. Their daughter, Irona was born in 1945. Ken and Betty operated a service station in Hansen.
Betty married
Warren Robison in 1947. Three children were born to Warren and Betty, Susan, Kathy and Sheila. The family farmed in Hansen, Idaho, until 1954 when they moved to Warden, Wash., to farm with Betty's family. Betty owned a beauty shop in Hansen and in Warden. In 1969, they moved to American Falls where Betty worked at the Hospital as a nutritional aide and as director of the senior citizen center. In 1980, they moved to Twin Falls.
Betty married
A.L. Johnson in 1983 and moved to Jerome where she was manager of the senior citizen's center for many years. Their many trips to Yuma, Ariz., resulted in many fond memories and wonderful friendships. They retired to Orofino and continued to travel to Yuma in the winter months.
Betty enjoyed the company of her daughter, Susan, with whom she resided until 2004, when she moved to Hawthorne Court Retirement Center in Kennewick, Wash. Among her many talents were singing in the Sweet Adelines, playing the organ, golfing and cooking.
She is survived by her husband, A.L. Johnson; daughters, Irona (Doug) Campbell of Warden, Wash., Susan Robison of Kennewick, Wash., Kathy (Terry) Lilya of American Falls, Idaho, and Sheila Cellan of Pocatello, Idaho; a sister, Virginia (Jack) Howe of Yuma, Ariz.; two brothers, Art (Patsy) Prior of Warden, Wash., and Chester Prior of Hermiston, Wash.; 11 grandchildren, Chris Campbell, Beau Campbell, Amy Snyder, Colleen McCullough, Cody Smith, Ryan Scherer, Kelly Lewandowski, Adam Jensen, Lewis Jensen, Dane Jensen and Connor Cellan; 14 great-grandchildren, Matt, Mickenzie, Wyatt, Chandler, Lane, Hope, Hunter, Hayden, Jordan, Tyler, Garrett, Michael, Kaitlyn and Keggin.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Mueller's Tri Cities Funeral Home, Kennewick, Wash. Interment was on Friday, March 18, 2005, at Wells Bench cemetery in Orofino, Wash.
Betty Louise Doggett Robinson
BURLEY -- Betty Louise Doggett Robinson, 74, a life-long resident of Burley, died of a sudden illness on Thursday, March 24, 2005, at the Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert.
Betty was born on Oct. 26, 1930, in Burley, the daughter of Earl Calvin Doggett and Lillie May Badger Doggett. She graduated from Burley High School in 1948 and went to Ogden Business College in Utah. After graduating, she returned to Burley. She married
Bill Kelly in 1951 and followed him in his career in the Air Force to many places in the United States including California, Illinois, Utah, Texas and Mississippi. They had four children, Richard, Patrick, Danny and Pamela. In 1965, she married
Bill McMurray in Burley. They had one daughter, Lisa. Her children and family meant the world to her. She faced many difficulties in her life and was admired by many who knew her for her perseverance and strong will.
Betty loved to write and dance and will be remembered for her "gift of gab."
She is survived by her children, Pat (Jeanene) Kelly of Spokane, Wash., Dan Kelly of Wenatchee, Wash., Pam (Ron) Eaton of Peoria, Ariz., and Lisa (Dan) Lamers of Arlington, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son, Richard, and two brothers, Gerald "Buddy" and Ivan Doggett.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at the Payne Memorial Chapel, 221 West Main Street in Burley. Inurnment will follow in the Riverside cemetery, Heyburn.
William Joseph Boyd
TWIN FALLS -- William Joseph Boyd, 74, former resident of Twin Falls, Idaho, died March 19, 2005, in Yuma, Ariz.
He was born Oct. 23, 1930, in Tacoma, Wash., to Joseph and Bernadine Boyd. During the Korean War, he served in the Navy. On Aug. 30, 1958, he and Mary Katherine Patterson were married
in Seattle, Wash. He worked for many years as a funeral director for area funeral homes, most recently as general manager for Miller-Woodlawn in Bremerton.
Bill was a member of the Twin Falls Lodge No. 23 (Idaho), Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and all affiliated branches, a Past Grand Master Grand Lodge of Idaho, a member of the William H. Upton Lodge No. 206, F. & A.M. (Bremerton); Past Patron, Reliance Chapter No. 70, Order of Eastern Star; and a member of Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church (Bremerton).
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Kay; sons, Bill Boyd Jr. and David Boyd; and five grandchildren.
Bill's memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2005, at Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church in Bremerton. Memorials may be made to your local hospice or Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by Weeks Funeral Home in Buckley, Wash.
Jamie Ramos
CASTLEFORD -- Jaime Ramos, 60, passed away at his home on March 25, 2005, surrounded by friends and family after a short battle with cancer. Jaime was born in Yepomera, Mexico on Feb. 16, 1945, to Alberto and Refugio (Carveo) Ramos. Jaime was the second child born of seven girls and three boys.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dora; five sons, Jim (Cathy), George (Kelly), Omar (Kim), Leroy and Mario; one daughter, Angela. Jaime adored all his grandchildren: Halle, Bailey, Eleanor, Elise, Cameron, Natalia, and Nathaniel. Jamie is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Arnoldo, Socorro, Romelia, Tarsila, Arminda, Thelma, Irma, Alberto, and Blanca Ramos.
Jaime unselfishly provided for his family up until the end. His sense of humor and love for life will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed to have known him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Buhl. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 28, with a Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Chapel.
Maxine Iverson
TWIN FALLS -- Maxine Iverson, 81, of Twin Falls, passed away at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center on Monday, April 4, 2005, after a lingering illness while surrounded by her family, she has bravely battled cancer for the past 10 years.
She was born on May 7, 1923, in Manti, Utah, to Leo Mickelson and Helen Jaynes. She was the oldest of nine children. She attended school at Manti until her family moved to Jerome in 1936 when she was a teenager, where Maxine attended school and graduated from Jerome High School.
On Sept. 13, 1950, she married
her sweetheart, Robert Iverson, in Elko, Nev. They spent 55 beautiful wonderful years together. They lived in Twin Falls for all their married
life and built a beautiful home south of town in 1975.
Maxine enjoyed spending time with her family and had many good camping and fishing trips with her sons and husband. She was a great cook and her family always looked forward to the holidays with Grammy. She and Robert took their annual winter trips to Las Vegas and enjoyed spending time with each other.
She was a very loving and caring person and left behind a legacy of love and happy memories for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Johnson; three brothers, John, Ralph and Eddie; two sisters, Leah and Edna; and a great-granddaughter, Danika Johnson.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Iverson of Twin Falls; a son, Marti (Chandee) Iverson of Twin Falls; a sister, Clara English of Boise; two brothers, Richard Mickelson of Clarkston, Wash., and LeeRay (Roberta) Mickelson of Boise; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Johnson of Twin Falls; five grandchildren, Max (Sherry) Johnson of Burley, LaDawn (Boyd) Farnworth of Twin Falls, Debbie Johnson of Twin Falls, Jessica Iverson Miller of Jerome and Sunni Iverson of Twin Falls; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was currently in the Twin Falls 2nd Ward. She has served in various church callings.
A funeral for Maxine will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 9th, at the LDS 2nd Ward building located at 229 Park Avenue in Twin Falls, with Bishop Ken Steelman conducting. She will be laid to rest in the mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls. A viewing for friends and family will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday, April 8th, at White Mortuary, 136 Fourth Ave. E. in Twin Falls and also one hour prior to the service at the church.
Alice Metts
BURLEY -- Alice Metts, an 82-year-old resident of Burley, died April 6, 2005, at Highland Estates.
Alice was born Jan. 24, 1923, at Stone, Idaho, to Hugh and Rosetta Clark.
She married
Robert Metts on Dec. 21, 1950. They raised five children.
Alice was a hard worker and helped provide for her family. She retired from the South Idaho Press as a darkroom technician.
She loved to garden and took pride in her beautiful yard. She enjoyed making quilts and afghans for her children and grandchildren. She blessed us all with her wonderful sense of humor and she will be greatly missed. We find comfort in knowing that she is reunited with loved ones.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Trudy Bennett of Camarillo, Calif., Vicki Andrew of Meridian, Idaho, and Becky Larson of Burley, Idaho; three sisters, Faa Casper, Arba Gibson and Bonnie Schenk; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Her husband Robert; two sons, David and Chris; her parents; one brother, Hugh; and one sister, Rosie, preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley. Urn placement will follow at Pleasant View cemetery.
Max W. Kimball
CAREY -- Max W. Kimball passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2005.
He was the third child born to Harold and Dora Kimball on Sept. 20, 1925, in Afton, Wyo. They moved to Idaho in 1927 and lived in various places before settling in Carey.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1948 serving on various islands in the Pacific and went into Japan to dismantle planes after the treaty was signed. He was stationed in Wendover, Nev., and California after the war.
He married
Stella Rice in 1949 in Elko, Nev., and had three sons. In 1971, he married
Jeannie Bell and had one daughter. He worked in the area mines and farmed and ranched in Carey and Bellevue. He worked for the Forest Service as a fire jumper in his early years and later on in maintenance. In 1977, he worked on the Fish Creek Ranch building miles of fence and changing hand lines and worked there until his death. His greatest love was working with his horses.
Max is survived by his sons, Mike (Kristine) of Hailey and Richard (Cris) of Carey and Max Eldon and by his daughter, Denni Bugni (Jerome) of Aurora, Colo. He is also survived by four grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren; four brothers, Ed, Kenny, Lawrence and Johnny; and four sisters, Bernice Hanks, Ramona Kimball, Pat Vaughn and Elda Sparks.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dora; father, Harold; stepmother, Mary; and brother, Weaver.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Hospice of the Wood River Valley, P.O. Box 4320, Ketchum, ID 83340 or Larkin Community Church, P.O. Box 343, Carey, ID 83320.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2005, at the Larkin Community Church in Carey with the Rev. Richard Kimball officiating.
Cremation preceded the service and was under the care of Wood River Chapel of Hailey, Idaho.
