Thelma Kysar
TWIN FALLS -- Thelma Kysar, 78, of Kimberly, died March 9, 2005, at Bridgeview Estates.
She was born May 23, 1926, at the home of her parents, Elmer T. and Lavina Okey Anderson, Malad Gorge Canyon, Bliss, Idaho. Her grandmother, Mary Ellen Clark Okey assisted as midwife as there was no doctor.
Thelma attended Bliss schools and graduated May 18, 1945. She married
Calvin Orvis Kysar Jr. on Feb. 9, 1947. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and camping. For several years, she hosted large family gatherings at Easter and Thanksgiving. She was a member of the Kimberly Christian Church and active in several church groups. In later years she enjoyed traveling to Utah to learn more about her family's roots. She also enjoyed the meals and companionship of the Ageless Senior Center in Kimberly.
She is survived by three children, Gary Lee Kysar of Hawaii, Calvin O.
Kysar III "Steve" of Champaign, Ill., and Sharon Kay Culver of Wilsonville, Ore.; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Jack O. Anderson of Boise, Idaho; and one sister, Mary Elsie (Roy) McHargue of Wendell, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; two sisters, Edna (Donald A.) Brown and Lucille (Ralph) Palmer; and one daughter, Susan Jane Kysar.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2005, at the Falls View cemetery at American Falls, Idaho. Should friends desire, contributions may be given to the Idaho Commission for the Blind or the Kimberly Christian Church. Contributions may be mailed to White Mortuary, 136 Fourth Ave. E. Benturo 'Ben' Zubizarreta
GOODING -- Benturo "Ben" Zubizarreta, 88, a resident of Gooding, Idaho, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at the Mercy Medical Center in Nampa.
Ben was born on Dec. 14, 1916, in Boise, Idaho, the son of Pedro Jose and Filomena Zubizarreta. When Ben was 5 years old, his family moved back to the Basque Country where he attended school. In 1933, Ben moved back to Idaho and worked for several years herding sheep near Bruneau.
Ben married
Juanita Mendiola on Oct. 9, 1944, in Gooding. He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army, serving in the South Pacific.
Upon his discharge, Ben returned to Idaho. The couple was blessed with the birth of twin daughters, Rose and Ruth on Jan. 9, 1946. Ben worked for Custom Meat Packing in Garden City from 1947 to 1951. Ben and Juanita then moved to Gooding where Ben worked at Ohlinger Custom Meats for several years.
Juanita preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 1957. Ben returned to work at Gem Pack (formerly Custom Meat Packing) from 1961 to 1978, when he retired.
Ben moved to Gooding where he has since resided. Ben traveled to the Basque Country several times over the years. In an interview for the Boise Basque Museum in May of 2002. Ben stated that he is Basque and American and that he liked both cultures very much.
Ben was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Gooding and was also a member of the Basque Associations in Boise and in Gooding.
He is survived by his daughters, Rose (Joe) McKinney of Nampa and Ruth Zubizarreta of Albuquerque, N.M.; two granddaughters, Lisa and Amy McKinney; two great-grandchildren, Amaya and Dillon; three nieces, Juanita (Albert) Bilbao, Dolores (Rollie) Saylor and Joella (Matt) Reynolds; and a very close and dear friend, Effie Fisher of Gooding.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his in-laws, John and Rita Mendiola; two brothers and one sister.
A Rosary service was recited at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2005, at Demaray's Gooding Chapel in Gooding. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, March 12, 2005, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Gooding. Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery in Gooding.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ben's name to St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Gooding or to the Gooding Basque Association.
Sandy K. Murphy
BURLEY -- Our beloved daughter, sister, mother and grandmother, Sandy K. Murphy, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 19, 2005, in Burley, Idaho.
Sandy was born Oct. 20, 1951, in Rupert, to Tom and Etta Reynolds. As a youth she attended St. Nicholas Catholic School and Minico High School.
Sandy was blessed with four children, Madona Clark, Hank Clark, Levi Murphy and Tucker Murphy. She was always interested in her children's activities as she frequently coached baseball and served as 4-H leader. She has always been very proud of her children and grandchildren.
Sandy taught her children the value of hard work as she held various jobs throughout her life. She worked at Minidoka Memorial Hospital, The Drift Inn, and was a well-known self-employed housekeeper. She loved collecting elephants and had a knack for decorating.
Sandy enjoyed the outdoors especially horse riding, camping, hunting and fishing as long as she was spending time with her family. She always had a big heart and was there for those in need. Sandy will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and daughter.
Sandy is survived by her parents, Tom and Etta Reynolds, of Rupert; two brothers, George Reynolds of Wendover, Nev., and Doug (Darlene) Reynolds of Paul; and two sisters, Paulette (William) DeNaughel of Rupert, and Debi (Jim) Hondo of Burley. Also surviving her are her children, Madona (John) Hadel of Driggs, Hank (Melanie) Clark of Declo, Levi (Lisa) Murphy of Declo, and Tucker Murphy of Burley; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Elecia Flores, Dustin Cotton, Brylie Murphy, Cameron and Kambrie Clark.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; a brother, Jerry Reynolds; and a nephew, Mark Reynolds.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 802 F Street in Rupert. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005, also at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Gabriel Vargas as celebrant. Burial will follow at Rupert cemetery.
Friends may call at the church from 6 p.m. until the time of the vigil service on Tuesday, and one hour prior to the funeral Mass on Wednesday.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley.
The family suggests memorials be directed to the Sandy K. Murphy Memorial Fund in care of any First Federal Savings Bank.
Kenneth H. Poe
TWIN FALLS -- Kenneth H. Poe, 84, of Twin Falls, Idaho, died on March 19, 2005, at Bridgeview Estates, of a long illness.
Kenny was born in Twin Falls on March 16, 1921, in the family home on his parents' farm. He grew up and attended school in Twin Falls, graduating from Twin Falls High School in 1939. On May 20, 1942, he married
Marjorie Lee Slack, also of Twin Falls.
Kenny attended Long Beach Junior College and worked at Lockheed Aircraft Factory building P-38 airplanes for the war effort, until he was called into WWII. He served his country in the Philippines and Okinawa, Japan, as a supply sergeant in the U.S. Army, and was decorated with the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Upon his discharge in February 1946, Kenny and Marge resumed farming the land, where they raised their three sons, Raymond, David and Leslie. For the rest of his life, he continued to live in the same house in which he was born.
Kenny was a devoted family man and a meticulous farmer. He was very active in the community and throughout his life he held numerous positions with the Twin Falls Grange and acted as chairman of the Twin Falls Highway District. Kenny was also an active member of the local Kiwanis Club, the Farm Bureau and the First United Methodist Church. Other interests and hobbies included Chess Club and driving his 1941 Chevrolet Special Deluxe Club Coupe, identical to the one that he and Marge owned as their first car. To his extended family, particularly as young children, the John Deere tractor was synonymous with Kenny, who happily gave rides on his tractors.
In addition to his loving wife, Marge, Kenny is survived by his three sons, Raymond (Tannya) of Pocatello, David (Mary) of Santa Rosa, Calif. and Leslie (Karen), Twin Falls. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Alan Poe of Omaha, Neb., Eric Poe of San Diego, Deena Warner of Meridian, John Mills of Phoenix, Brad Poe of Spokane, Wash., Jennifer Ferguson of Nampa, Stefanie Poe of Spokane, Wash., and Diana Poe of Pocatello. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
Kenny's legacy lives on in all who knew him. His strength of character, work ethic, integrity, loyalty, sense of humor and love has enriched many others, especially his children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews, who adored him and treasured their time with him. He will long be remembered as a humble and truly great man.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, William Archie Poe and Alice (Trager) Poe. Kenneth was the only survivor of five siblings, all of whom died in early childhood.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church, followed by a reception at the church to celebrate his life. A visitation will be held for family and friends at White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park" from 4 to 8 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2005.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to the First United Methodist Church, or a charity of choice.

Antonio Galvan Gonzolez
BUHL -- Antonio Galvan Gonzolez, 40, of Buhl, passed away peacefully Friday, March 18, 2005, at the Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, due to asthma complications.
He was born Aug. 3, 1964, in Guanajuato, Mexico, the son of Jose Luis and Belen Galvan. He worked for Jack Petter dairy at the time of his death.
Antonio spent much of his time enjoying riding horses, taking care of all of the other animals around his "little farm," as he called it. He also worked on cars, he was good at taking them apart, but in the process of being a mechanic, he would sometimes misplace parts.
He was a very loving and caring man when it came to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by everybody who knew him.
Antonio is survived by the love of his life, his girlfriend, Cindy Garza of Buhl; mother, Belen Gonzalez, of Mexico; one daughter, Bertha Galvan; grandson, Victor Antonio; two sons, Jose and Graciano Galvan. Three brothers, Jesus (Jaylene) Galvan of Buhl, Juan (Victoria) Galvan and Manuel (Marie) Galvan, all of Salinas, Calif.; six sisters, Rosa Galvan, Marisol (Ricardo) Galvan, and Maria-Luisa (Jesus) Galvan, all of Chicago, Ill., Rebecca (Salvador) Galvan, Lupe Galvan, Erika (Roman) Galvan, all of Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his father Jose Luis Galvan.
Friends and family can view Antonio, Monday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Chapel 130 N. 9th Ave., Buhl. A funeral Mass will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Farmer Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place in Mexico.
Jimmy Ray Ingalls
RUPERT -- Jimmy Ray Ingalls, age 69, died March 22, 2005, peacefully at Valley Vista Care Center, Rupert, Idaho.
Jimmy was born Dec. 29, 1935, in Ely, Nev., to Lyle and Nevada (Giusti) Ingalls. He was raised in Hawthorne, Nev., until 1969 and lived in Spencer, Ind., until he came to Rupert to be close to family.
He was a member of the Methodist church in Indiana for 30 years without missing a Sunday. He loved going to church and hearing the word of God, and singing about Him. The old songs were his favorite.
He was an avid shopper, he loved going to yard sales, DI, the youth ranch and anywhere he could find stuff to buy. He loved being with family and friends, of whom there were many. And all who knew him loved him, because he loved everyone. He loved the parties, dancing, camping and fried chicken with potatoes and gravy.
He is survived by two brothers, Danny (Joanne) Harris of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Leonard (Cathy) Ingalls of Rupert, Idaho; a sister, Lilly M. Casteel of Stanton, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews; and friends galore everywhere.
He was preceded in death by his mother, stepfather, father, sister and a brother-in-law.
A service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2005, at Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel, 710 Sixth St. Burial will be at the Rupert cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services.
The family wishes to thank the staff and all the residents of Valley Vista, MDC of Burley, Independent Growth and all those who showed him love on his camping trips.
He was so special to so many and you were so very special to him

Marcella L. Walhof
BOISE -- Marcella L. Walhof, 95, of Boise, passed peacefully to the Lord on Monday, March 21, 2005, at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Morris Hill cemetery, 317 N. Latah, Boise, with the Rev. Mel Sprute officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home, 208-375-2212.
Marcella, a triplet, was born Dec. 6, 1909, at Rock Valley, Iowa, one of eight children of Peter Edward and Hannah Rielley Tuynman. She graduated from Rock Valley High School where she lettered in basketball. She later attended Iowa State Teachers College and taught school in rural Iowa districts for eight years. She married
John B. Walhof Sr. in July of 1936. Later that year they moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. In 1952, after 16 years in the Magic Valley, Marcella, Bernie and family moved to Boise. Marcella was a charter member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church Altar Society, and a life-time member of the Saint Alphonsus Hospital Auxiliary. She also attained a great deal of satisfaction from assisting her children in scouting activities. In earlier years, Marcella enjoyed playing pinochle, gardening and traveling. Particular highlights included her meeting with Pope John Paul and her travels to Ireland.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen and Dave Rutherford of San Diego, Calif., and Nancy and Jon Utpadel of Anchorage, Ark., a daughter-in-law, Ramona Walhof of Boise; and a son, John and Julie Walhof of Boise. Her seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren provided Marcella with much love and enjoyment during her time on earth.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a son, Charles A. Walhof; a grandson, Brian Rutherford, five sisters and a brother.
Arlene B. Garner
MCCALL -- Arlene B. Garner, an 84-year-old resident of McCall, Idaho, formerly of Burley, died Saturday, March 19, 2005, in McCall.
Arlene was born April 5, 1920, in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of William and Dorothy Barnes. Arlene was the second child of 12 children. Her mother was ill, so Arlene assisted in caring for her younger brothers and sisters. She married
Archie Garner, Aug. 31, 1940, in Arco, Idaho. Together they had six children, five sons and one daughter. She took great pleasure in keeping her home clean and organized. She loved people and always made sure that everyone who came to her home was well-fed and given a bed to sleep in. She was a quiet person, never wanting to be in the spotlight, but she was the strength behind the scene.
She belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many organizations, the Relief Society, Primary, Young Women's and she served a Stake mission with her husband, Archie. She also belonged to the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
She is survived by her children, Gordon B. Garner, Oakville, Wash., Barry B. Garner, Lacey, Wash., Arch B. Garner, Alexandria, Va., Robert B. Garner, Salt Lake City, Utah, James B. Garner, Riverton, Utah, and Martha Callahan, McCall, Idaho; sisters, Helen Boyer, Arco, Idaho, Donna Terry, Burley, Idaho, and Joanne Mecham, Garland, Utah; brothers, William Barnes, Ammon, Idaho, Lynn P. Barnes, Lindon, Utah, John P. Barnes, Rexburg, Idaho, Larry P. Barnes, Arco, Idaho and Arthur P. Barnes, Bellingham, Wash.; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Garner; her parents, William and Dorothy Barnes; brothers, Marvin P. Barnes, Grant P. Barnes and Robert P. Barnes.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2005, at the Burley 7th Ward LDS Chapel, 2200 Oakley Ave., with Bishop Mark Fillmore officiating. Burial will follow at the Paul cemetery. A visitation will take place one hour before the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Mortuary Burley Chapel.
Kay 'Katie' Sandra Fleming Vanhoozer Noel
JEROME -- Katie Noel, 69, of Jerome, passed away March 22, 2005, at home with her family by her side, after a long and courageous struggle with cancer.
Katie was born Oct. 16, 1935, in St. Paul, Minn., the first of four daughters born to Larry and Louise Fleming. She moved with her family to Ketchum, Idaho, in 1941. In 1951, the family moved to Jerome where Katie graduated from high school in 1953. During her high school years she worked in the family business at the Dew Drop Inn and at the Voris Theatre. She was a rodeo queen candidate in 1953. In 1955 she married
George Vanhoozer. They had five children. Katie followed in the footsteps of her parents by remaining active in the restaurant business all of her life. In 1964 she and her husband, George, took over the management of the Woods Café. Later she was active with her son, Gregory, at The Little Bit Café in Hagerman. She operated the Lava Beds Café in Shoshone for many years and most recently was associated with McClanahans in Jerome. She entertained all who passed through the doors with good food, good conversation, a never-ending wit and humor that kept everyone coming back for more. One of her most endearing qualities was her laughter and warmth and the ability to remember your name and accompany that with a big hug and a wise-crack. She was a multi-talented craftswoman, her hands always busy creating. She crocheted, knitted, did needlepoint and copper tooling. One of her needlepoint creations of an eagle and the National Flag was displayed in the old Wood Café and purchased by the U.S. Army in 1976. She inspired in all of her children the joy of creating with their hands and each of them has contributed and adorned their homes and hers with this talent which was a never-ending source of pride for her and them. To visit her home was to be blessed with a tour of her love of collecting and displaying artifacts, family drawings and pictures, items she made from bits and scraps of lumber or driftwood. Her dreamcatchers were a favorite, which were made with turkey feathers.
Katie was the proud mother of and is survived by her five children, Jeffrey Lawrence (Paula) Vanhoozer of Meridian, Lynn Sidney (Carol) Vanhoozer of Buhl, Sandra Louise (Phil) Herink of Eagle, Kevin Lee Vanhoozer of Wendell and Gregory Eric Vanhoozer of Boise. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sisters, Susan Williamson of Jerome, Jacki (Lupe) Rodriguez of Blackfoot and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sawny McCarty.
A funeral for Katie will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2005, at Farnsworth Mortuary Chapel, 1343 S. Lincoln, in Jerome, with Pastor Dale Wilkins officiating. A visitation will be held where family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Farnsworth Mortuary and again one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Friends are cordially invited to attend a reception following the services at Katie's home, where her life will be celebrated with remembrances of our mother, grandmother, sister and especially a very, very dear friend who will be missed more than words can express.
