Kerry Kawamoto
TWIN FALLS -- Kerry H. Kawamoto, age 57, of Twin Falls, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at home surrounded by his beloved family.
Kerry was born April 6, 1947, in Twin Falls. He was the son of Kay Kawamoto and Mary Kawamoto. Kerry was a life-long resident of the Magic Valley, graduating from Twin Falls High in 1965. He attended the University of Idaho for one year, then served in the Army Reserves and later earned a degree in finance from Idaho State University. Kerry's professional career in the family restaurant business spanned four decades, starting with Kay's Supper Club in the 1960s. He later owned and operated George K's Restaurant, which remained a local favorite until 1998. After his retirement from the restaurant business, he continued to enjoy teaching culinary classes and cooking at local benefit dinners.
Kerry married
his high school sweetheart, Mary Ruth Lawrence, on Dec. 29, 1968. From their union came Kara in 1974 and Cade in 1978. Kerry was a wonderful husband and father, who took great joy in his family; especially his children. He became a proud "papa" in 2002 with the birth of his granddaughter, Kinsey. He was adored by all of his family and was blessed to have spent this past Christmas with many of them during a vacation to Hawaii. Kerry also enjoyed an active social life, which included golfing, listening to music and cooking with friends.
Kerry is survived by his wife, Ruthie of Twin Falls; his mother, Mary of Twin Falls; his daughter, Kara (Steve) Martin of Vancouver, Wash.; his son, Cade of Huntington Beach, Calif.; his granddaughter, Kinsey Martin; his sister, Becky (Ron) Fox; his half-sister, Kaleen; his sister-in-law, Barbara Lawrence; his brother-in-law Rich Jones; his aunt, Marty (Kenji) Nishida; his uncle, George Kawamoto; and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kay Kawamoto.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at the Twin Falls Reformed Church, 1631 Grandview Drive N. Services and arrangements are under the direction of White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park."
Arica L. Black
BURLEY -- Arica L. Black, a 91-year-old resident of Burley, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at Parke View Care & Rehabilitation Center, with her family at her side.
She was born Jan. 27, 1914, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Asael M. and Cecil Durfee Lowe. She was raised on the family ranch in Almo and attended grade school there. Due to lack of secondary educational facilities in Almo, she attended high school in Twin Falls, Burley and graduated from Rupert High School, where she met her future husband, J. Spencer Black. They both furthered their education and graduated from Stevens Henegar Business College.
She worked at Utah Power in Salt Lake City, Utah, and planned on retiring there. She and Spencer were married
on June 1, 1935, in Rupert. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on May 29, 1990.
Arica, tired of ranch life, vowed she would never return after she grew up. When Arica's mother became ill, they came back to the ranch where they lived and started their family. To this union were born three children, Jay, Kathy and Ken. They moved to Burley in 1959.
While in Almo, Arica worked for the school lunch program and after moving to Burley, she worked for the Cassia County Auditor and Recorders office for many years. She made many friends, had an ability to solve problems, make decisions, was straightforward, fair and firm. Her name can be found on many legal documents in the Cassia County files.
She was a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Mini-Cassia Cowbelles, Toast Mistress Club and Easy Does It Home Demonstration Club. She was active in her church and served in many callings.
Arica suffered a debilitating stroke in 1994 and has resided at Parke View Care & Rehabilitation Center since.
She is survived by her husband, who devotedly aided in her care, J. Spencer Black; her children, Jay L. (Sharon) Black, Kathy (Tim) Payton and Ken S. (Nina) Black; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both brothers and her sister.
A public visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley. A private family service will be held on Saturday, with burial to follow at Riverside cemetery in Heyburn.
The family suggests memorials be directed to Parke View Beauty Shop Volunteers in care of Rasmussen Funeral Home in Burley.
Cecil Leighton 'Van' Vansant
MURTAUGH -- Cecil Leighton "Van" Vansant, 97, of Murtaugh, Idaho, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at Parke View Care & Rehabilitation Center in Burley.
Leighton was born in LaDue, Mo., on July 23, 1907, to Arthur Lee Vansant and Luella Gutridge Vansant. He married
Frances Meyers on April 27, 1933. They moved to Idaho in 1934 and have lived in the Murtaugh area since that time.
Leighton spent many years as a house painter and enjoyed seeing all the places he used to paint all over Magic Valley.
He enjoyed camping, hunting and especially fishing. He spent a lot of time with his extended family, enjoyed family reunions and made many trips back to Missouri to visit relatives there. In later years, he enjoyed going out to lunch and for drives with his nieces and nephews.
Leighton was a loving husband to "Frankie" who preceded him death. He was also preceded in death by one son, Bill Brown, his parents, three brothers and one sister.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Betty Brown of Twin Falls; one granddaughter, Amber Hansen; one great-grandson, David Brown; one sister-in-law, Mary Vansant of Heyburn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Leighton's life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at Reynolds Funeral Chapel with Pastor Darcey Gritzmacher of the First United Methodist Church in Burley officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call from noon until the time of services at Reynolds Funeral Chapel.
John 'Jack' Parish Smith
TWIN FALLS -- John "Jack" Parish Smith, 87, of Twin Falls, passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at his home with his loving family by his side.
Jack was born June 17, 1917, in Malta, Idaho, to John Obray and Flossie Ellen Parish Smith. He married
the love of his life, Thelma Perrett, on Feb. 21, 1940. In 1946, they moved to Twin Falls and have resided here ever since. As a young man, Jack received his education in Malta and the University of Idaho.
Throughout his life he was employed as a farmer, Twin Falls County Agent, Manager of Bean Growers, co-owner of Rocky Mountain Real Estate and Potato Growers of Idaho.
Jack was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served as bishop of the Twin Falls 2nd and 4th wards. He also served as president of the Chamber of Commerce, was active in the Rotary Club and Magic Valley Magichords.
In his spare time, Jack enjoyed golfing, music and spending time with his family. Jack was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving Jack is his loving wife of 64 years, Thelma of Twin Falls; his children, Ronald Smith (Elaine) of Keller, Texas, Clyde Smith (Carolyn) of Harriman, Utah, Grant Smith (Leslie) of Portage, Utah, Rosellyn Larsen (Lyle) of Morrison, Colo., Linda Cornaby (Barney) of Knoxville, Tenn., Jackie Sorenson (Richard) of Highland, Utah, Rock Smith (Pat) of Twin Falls, Idaho, Krista Loosli (Mike) of Caldwell, Idaho, Maria Polatis (Gordon) of Blackfoot, Idaho, and Jana Lindsay (Cal) of Boise, Idaho. Also surviving are 52 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and one brother, J. Dale Smith (Suzanne) of Burley, Idaho.
His parents, two brothers, two sisters; David Eric Larson (grandson); Jo Anna Smith (granddaughter); and John Daren Smith (grandson) preceded him in death.
A funeral for Jack will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at the Eastland L.D.S. Church in Twin Falls with Bishop Todd Clark officiating. Interment will follow service at the Malta cemetery in Malta, Idaho. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at the Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Lucinda 'Cindy' Dale Brown
SHOSHONE -- Lucinda "Cindy" Dale Brown, 52, of Shoshone passed away at her home the evening of Friday, March 4, 2005.
Cindy was born April 16, 1952, in Jerome to William and Laray Trammel. She lived her entire life as a member of the dynamic community of Shoshone. She graduated in 1970 from Shoshone High School and continued her education at Juan's School of Hair Design where she won the state cosmetology competition for hair design and became a registered cosmetologist. She married
Richard Brown on September 1, 1972, in Shoshone where they spent their lives together. She later earned a technical degree in computer-aided drafting, the career she followed for the remainder of her life. She spent her life enriching the lives of her family, friends and community. She spent her spare time singing, dancing, acting, and directing for the community and the school as an actor for the Lincoln County Players, a founding member of the Junction City Amateur Theatre, and director of numerous Shoshone High School productions.
She is survived her husband of 32 years, Richard Brown; her sons, Richard Shane Brown and William Brandon Brown; her daughter-in-law, Janel Brown; and her two grandchildren, Dakota and Dalton Brown, all of Shoshone; and her brothers, Mel and William Trammel of Boise. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Laray Trammel of Shoshone.
A viewing for friends and family will be held at Demaray's Funeral Chapel in Shoshone from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10 at the LDS church in Shoshone. Burial will be immediately following the services at the Shoshone cemetery with dinner for friends and family following at the LDS church.
Charles E. Harris
TWIN FALLS -- Charles E. Harris, 90, was released from this life Wednesday, March 2, 2005, by the Creator of all things.
Charlie was born to Charles M. and M. Marie Zahrend Harris on Sept. 27, 1914, southeast of Grinnell, Kan. The summer before his fifteenth birthday, he carried a great-great aunt out of her still-burning house. The next summer, he and Harold worked together to get a friend of Charlie's out of the swimming hole alive. He married
his mate of nearly 55 years, Alta Wilma Marken near Oakley, Kan., Nov. 28, 1937, at her parent's home. Charlie started in the hog business while in high school, added the cattle business shortly after graduating, and then soon started farming. He was privileged to go through the depression of 1929 and the drought and dust storms of the 1920s. The 1937 wheat crop failed to pay the harvest bill. They went to Fort Collins, Colo., to work in an orchard through 1939 when they came through Twin Falls, saw three big hay stacks on little patches and decided this was the place. He returned to the farming and cattle business until he retired, (once, twice, or maybe more).
Charles was active in Farm Bureau and belonged to Cattlemen's Association and The National Association of Independent Businessmen. He was also active in local affairs and was instrumental in getting work crews together to help neighbors who had been injured or were sick and could not work.
Charlie was saved after coming to Idaho and taught Sunday School classes, served on the church board, was song leader and did whatever was needed in the church.
Wilma and Charles were blessed with one son, Alvin, and the friendship of many young people full of the zip of life. Two of them, Clifford York of Australia and Eddie Wilson of Oregon were almost like sons. He also had a blood kin by transfusion, son Leroy Scantlin of Jerome. Alvin and his wife Patricia gave them one grandson, Tracy, and two granddaughters, Jeannie and
Teresa. Tracy and Shelly produced a great-grandson and great-granddaughter, Jeannie and Mike, two great grandsons, and Teresa and John, a great-granddaughter. All of them gave us many fond memories.
Wilma preceded Charlie in death in 1992. In 1993, Ruby Mae Marken became Charlie's God-given wife as a helpmate in both of their older years. He is survived by his wife, Ruby, son Alvin (Pat) Harris of Twin Falls; his grandchildren and their spouses, his great- grandchildren, sisters, Helen of Ohio and Ruth of California. He was preceded in death by brothers, Harold and Eugene, brother-in-law, Donald, sisters-in-law Velma and Zelda, both parents and all aunts and uncles.
Funeral services for Charles Harris will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park" with Rev. Jerry Kester, pastor of the Twin Falls Church of the Nazarene, and Rev. John Sander of the Wesleyan Holiness Church officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at White Mortuary with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Twin Falls Church of the Nazarene, 1231 Washington St. N., Twin Falls, the Wesleyan Church, or to a charity of donor's choice.
Richard Joe 'Dick' Marlow
WENDELL -- Dick Marlow, 78, a resident of Wendell, Idaho, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at his home in Wendell.
Dick was born on April 3, 1926, in Boone County, Iowa, the son of Homer and Maude Marlow. He was raised and educated in Glenns Ferry, Idaho. He married
Mona Robinson on June 6, 1948, in Elko, Nev.
He is survived by his wife, Mona; son, Rollie Marlow of Wendell; daughter, Reggie Marlow; two grandchildren, Jason (Carla) Rankin and Kristie Rankin; two great-grandchildren, Jayde Rankin and Violet Rankin all of Seattle, Wash.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Russ and Bud; and sister, Dorothy.
There's a lot that can be said about Dick, but the truth is, all of you that knew him, knew him well. Those that didn't, really missed out. He taught many young men the importance of hard work. Dick loved horses and his mares were unbeatable at the races. His 46th generation of good horse breeding is standing in the fields and the 47th generation is on the way. Those of you who enjoyed having a drink with him were sure to be "told something." Those who did business with Dick knew him to be an astute businessman.
He is no longer frustrated, but is now at peace. Happy Trails Dad!
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at the Wendell Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Hollomon officiating. Burial will be at the Wendell Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wendell Methodist Church.
Ann E. Taylor
RUPERT -- Ann E. Taylor, 86, of Rupert, passed away March 4, 2005, at the Parke View Care and Rehabilitation Center in Burley.
Ann was born Feb. 16, 1919, in Williamstown, Ky., to Luther Manley and Beatrice M. Bennett Phillips. She moved to Buhl, Idaho, at the age of 10 and later to Burley. On March 31, 1939, she married
Wayne G. Taylor in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They lived all their married
life in Rupert.
She was a member of the Rupert First Christian Church and worked as the secretary for several years. She loved playing bridge, traveling and being with her family.
Ann is survived by one son, Michael Taylor of Princeville, Hawaii; one daughter, Leslie Ann Taylor of Norwalk, Calif.; one granddaughter, Lynzi Taylor of Norwalk, Calif.; three brothers, Gaylord (Olive) Phillips of Heyburn, Bill (Lois) Phillips of St. George, Utah, and Maurice "Glen" Phillips of Abbeville, Ala; one sister, Uthal Montgomery of Burley; three nephews and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne and her parents.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005, at the First Christian Church, 1110 Eighth St. in Rupert, with Pastor John Marshall, officiating. Burial will follow at the Rupert cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
The family would like to thank everyone at Parke View Care and Highland Estates for the love and care they gave her.

Betty Jean Reinke
TWIN FALLS -- Betty Jean Reinke, aged 83 years, of Twin Falls, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at Eastern Idaho Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
She was born on Sept. 3rd, 1921, in Wichita, Kan., and was the oldest child of nine, of Marian Scott (Bill) and Irene Hafer. She attended elementary school in Wichita, until the fourth grade. In July of 1930 the family moved to Wendell, Idaho. Betty graduated in 1939 from high school in Twin Falls.
Betty married
Lester L. Reinke on Jan. 16, 1944, at Twin Falls. Les and Betty began their married
life on the family farm at Clover, Idaho. Their marriage was blessed with six children, Betty, Cliff Fred, Brent, Jay, Florence and Mark. Betty was active in the various Lutheran Churches she and Les and family attended, at Clover, Twin Falls, Nampa, Pocatello, Buhl and Filer. She especially enjoyed the Good Shepherd Auxiliary, a group who serves people with disabilities. At present she is a member of Peace Lutheran, Filer, Idaho. Mr. Reinke died in 2000. Most recently she had been residing with son, Mark, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Betty is survived by brothers, Jerry and Ted Hafer of Twin Falls; sisters, Jane Berdine of Twin Falls, Marjorie Jensen of Buhl and Mary Cooper of Salt Lake City. Betty is also survived by sons, Cliff Fred Reinke of Pocatello, Brent (Carla) Reinke of Filer, Jay (Andrea) Reinke of Williston, N.D., and Mark (Brooke) Reinke of Idaho Falls; daughters, Betty (Jerry) Alm of Grangeville, Idaho, and Florence (Paul) Johnson of Georgetown, Calif.. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Lester; her parents; brothers, Bud Hafer and Baby Jackie; and sister, Virginia Thaemert died earlier.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 10th, at Peace Lutheran Church, Sixth and Stevens in Filer, Idaho, with Pastor Gary Benedix officiating. Burial will follow at the Clover cemetery in Clover, Idaho. Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Reynolds Funeral Chapel, Twin Falls.
The family suggests memorials be given to the Good Shepherd Auxiliary. Contributions may be given to funeral chapel staff or mailed to Reynolds Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 1142, Twin Falls, ID 83301.
Lynette Michelle Rand-Webb
TWIN FALLS -- Lynette Michelle Rand-Webb, 29, died in her home in Twin Falls, Idaho.
A memorial service will be held at Mount Olivet Funeral Home at a later date. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Fort Worth, Texas.
Lynette was born April 23, 1975, in Cheyenne, Wyo. She served in the U.S. Air Force and worked as a dental hygienist. Lynette also was a model and worked for several companies. She was a devoted mom, daughter and sister who will be dearly missed by her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Alexandra Webb; parents, Curt and Sue Rand of Saginaw; brothers, Scott Rand of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jason Rand of Saginaw; grandmother, Lillian Brubaker; and other loving family members.
