Nan Carroll
HEYBURN -- Nan Foster Carroll, a 92-year-old resident of the Emerson District in Heyburn, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at Parke View Care & Rehabilitation Center in Burley.
She was the daughter of C.W. "Jack" and Grace Cooper Foster. Nan was born in Wamsutter, Wyo., on March 25, 1912, while her father worked as a telegrapher on the railroad. In approximately 1916, her family moved back to a farm in the Emerson area that they had homesteaded in 1903.
Nan attended the Emerson Grade School through the eighth grade and graduated from Heyburn High School in 1930. She also was a graduate of Albion State Normal School.
In 1933, she married
John Carroll and from this union were born two children, Dick, who was born in 1934, and Joan, who was born in 1938.
Nan and John's early married
years were spent working construction. In 1945, Nan's mother and stepfather, Dick Gale, were unable to continue running the farm due to ill health, so Nan and John moved back on the farm and ran it from 1945 until 1956. In 1957, John went to work for the City of Burley and later for the City of Pocatello. In 1977, they retired and moved back on the farm.
They spent their winters traveling in their motor home.
She is survived by her son, Dick and his wife, Doris, of Burley; a son-in-law, Russell Vaughn of Burley; three grandsons, Mike Carroll of Victor and Chance Carroll and Albert Vaughn both of Burley; two granddaughters, Leslie Davis of Blackfoot and Carma Oldham of Burley; and one niece, Linda Stone of St. Johnsbury, Vt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; a daughter, Joan Vaughn; two sisters, Dorothy Jones and Nell Murphy; and a nephew, Dale Jones.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, with Bishop Ted Tateoka officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rasmussen Funeral Home and again on Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral.
Nancy C. Preston
JEROME -- Nancy C. Preston, 52, of Jerome, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, of injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Nancy was born March 16, 1952, at Spalding, Neb., the daughter of Lyle and Martha Dwinell Vanosdall. She married
Lee Preston on Nov. 23, 1983.
She is survived by her husband, Lee of Jerome; her mother, Martha Vanosdall of Norfolk; one brother, Dale (Joyce) Vanosdall; one niece, Amy; and a nephew, Eric; all of Hoskin, Neb.
A service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Hove Robertson Funeral Chapel, in Jerome, Idaho, with the Rev. Baldwin Camin officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Geneva cemetery at Bear Lake. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Hove Robertson Funeral Chapel.
Mary Olive Ward Smith
HEYBURN -- Mary Olive Ward Smith, an 82-year-old Heyburn resident, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at the Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation Center in Twin Falls.
She was born Nov. 12, 1922, in Oakley, the daughter of Wallace M. and Mary Amelia Matthews Ward. She attended school in Malta and later attended the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. While attending college she worked at ZCMI Department Store. In 1946, she returned to Malta and worked for REA. She married
Clifford B. Smith on Nov. 15, 1947. They moved to Ogden, Utah, where Clifford worked at Hillfield. Following their retirement, they moved to Heyburn where they resided for many years. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in various capacities including the Deseret Industries. Mary was actively involved in the Heyburn Elementary Foster Grandparent Program for 17 years. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading and yard work.
Survivors include two brothers, Charles R. (Janet) Ward of Malta and Grover (Jeannie) Ward of Orem; a sister, Beverly (Charles) Rowland of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Wallace Matthews Ward.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Malta Ward Chapel, with Bishop Juel Hurst officiating. Burial will be in the Valley Vu cemetery in Malta.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Payne Mortuary, 221 W. Main St. in Burley and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Friday at the church.
The family suggests memorials be given to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association in care of Payne Mortuary.
Neva Lee Watson Moore
HANSEN -- Neva Lee Watson Moore passed away from natural causes Feb. 8, 2005, at 86 years of age.
She was born Aug. 25, 1918, in Zortman, Mont., the eighth of 10 children to Aubrey E. Watson and Mary Ellen Caddell Watson. The family later moved to the Salmon Idaho area, where she met her husband L. W. Bill Moore. They were married
on April, 21, 1954, in Hansen, Idaho. They lived in Hansen, Idaho, involved in farming, ranching and operating a business for 50 years together. During all of her married
life she was known for her devotion to her husband. She supported him on many trips and projects they undertook together.
Horsemanship ran in her family and she spent many years active in the Appaloosa Horse Club. She bred and raised many prize-winning horses both in show and pleasure riding classes. Her horse knowledge was shared with many an aspiring rodeo queen. Not just a horse person, she was known for her barnyard full of cats, dogs, peacocks, raccoons and chickens.
Though they never had any children of their own, she always treated her stepchildren as her own. Summer travels to horse shows with her were always looked forward to. It didn't matter whether it was a campfire or her own kitchen, she cooked up an excellent meal. She was active in the Desert Gold Cowbells and was president for a term. For many years she was avid bowler.
Neva was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and all her siblings. Her brothers included Arbrey, Thomas, Marshall, William (who was killed in a plane crash returning from a POW camp after World War Two) and Harold (who died shortly after birth) and her sisters, Virginia, Ruth, Mary and Betty.
She is survived by her stepchildren, William K. and Diane Moore Twin Falls, Id and Kelly M. Moore Kimberly, Idaho, five grandchildren and three great-grand children.
Neva's maternal grandfather was one of the few survivors of General Custer's army at Little Big Horn. He was in charge of the supply train, a day's travel behind the main force.
Neva appreciated the support of several close friends and her caregiver as her health declined the last several years.
She has requested not to have a memorial service and after cremation will rest with her husband at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials can be made to Idaho Public Television, P.O. Box 4 Boise, ID 83707-0004.
Eugene Duane Dutt
TWIN FALLS -- Eugene Duane Dutt, 68, of Twin Falls, passed away Feb. 6, 2005, at the Heritage Retirement Center in Twin Falls.
He was the oldest of nine children born to Arthur and Christina Kapp Dutt on Jan. 5, 1937, in Filer, Idaho.
He was injured as child in third grade. Although this injury disabled his body, it did not disable his spirit. Eugene enjoyed walking, the sparkle of Christmas lights, watching people and traffic. He was a food connoisseur who loved bananas and ice cream. He also enjoyed looking at catalogs and going shopping. Eugene expressed his feeling and emotions though his coloring and was a member of the Twin Falls Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Surviving are his brothers, Reuben Dutt, Roger (Sherry) Dutt; and sister, Iva Nickerson all of Filer, along with one niece and one nephew, one great-niece and one great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Irene and Alvina; and brothers, John, Donald Lee and Clinton. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home with burial following at the Twin Falls cemetery.
Amber Fern (Cordle) Ash
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Amber Fern (Cordle) Ash, 91, of Silver Street, Middletown, Conn., wife of the late Alonzo Boyd Ash, died Thursday, Feb. 10th, at Middlesex Memorial Hospital in Middletown.
Born in Princeton, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Frank C. and Bessie L. (Branam) Cordle.
Mrs. Ash married
her late husband on Aug. 19, 1929, in Broken Bow, Neb., and lived in Nebraska and Idaho throughout their marriage. After living in Twin Falls, Idaho, for many years, she moved to Middletown in 1997.
She loved nature, played the organ and received awards for her poetry.
She is survived by two sons, Vaughn Duane (Nancy Wheeler) Ash of Homedale, Idaho, and Alonzo Boyd Ash Jr. of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and one daughter, Sharon Jessen of Middletown, Conn.; four sisters, Lois Barshell-Travers, Sarasota, Fla., Carol Bolton of Omaha, Neb., Pauline Mullins of Puyallup, Wash., and Joyce Orion of Yakima, Wash.; seven grandchildren including, Andrew Duane Ash, Randolph Boyd Ash, Clark and Ranae Sherry Ash Shupe; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Aubrey Boyd Ash; a daughter, Beverly Jean Ash; two brothers, Jewel Branam Cordle and Carl Harding Cordle; and a sister, Cora Correan Fulmer.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park," 136 Fourth Ave. E., Twin Falls. Burial will follow at the Twin Falls cemetery. Lona Ann Rich Fowler
TWIN FALLS -- Lona Ann Rich Fowler died on Feb. 6, 2005, in Twin Falls, Idaho.
She was born in Morgan, Utah, on March 3, 1905, to Jenna Brough Rich and James Richard Rich. She married
Rollin Charles Fowler on March 2, 1931. They resided in Salt Lake City, Utah, where Lona managed the OP Skaggs grocery store chain of bakeries.
In 1941, Lona and Rol moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, and owned Sawyer's Barbeque in Twin Falls and Pocatello and the Red Rock Cafe in Twin Falls.
After Rollin died in 1964, Lona operated the Red Rock. She was an outstanding manager and businesswoman, admired and respected by employees and customers.
Surviving Lona is her sister, Nelda Jane Rich O'Brien; sister-in-law, Ruth Porter Rich; six nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Wilma Henry.
Lona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rollin; two brothers James LaVon Rich and Franklin John Rich; and a nephew, Brent Rich.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at the Twin Falls cemetery, in Twin Falls, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
All services and arrangements are under the direction of the Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls, Idaho.
Alisa Ann Moon
JEROME -- Alisa Ann Moon, 38, of Jerome, passed away Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, with her loving family by her side.
Alisa was born on July 2, 1966, in Twin Falls to Terry L. Moffett and Peggy Lee Gupton. She was raised by her mother and attended school in California. As a young adult she moved to Florida with her father. In 1991 Alisa moved back to Idaho where she met the love of her life, Kenneth Moon. They were married
on July 17, 1992 in Buhl. Kenny and Alisa had one son, Shane Moffett-Cooper Moon.
Alisa loved her family very much. She spent many hours working with their son and his disabilities, learning about the many resources available to her and her family. To give back to the community Alisa began her volunteer days at The Infant and Toddler Committee. She was actively involved with the Head Start Program in Buhl, where she became the center president for two years and received many awards. After her Head Start years she continued to volunteer her time. She became involved with NAMI.
Alisa was a wonderful mother and believed it was important to help other families in need. She decided that she would be able to reach out to more families by entering into the private sector and became a service coordinator where she volunteered for many years and eventually became certified. Alisa was a strong advocate for families in need and made positive differences in many lives.
Alisa had many different interests and hobbies. She was very patriotic and loved her country music. She was a huge Nascar fan and attended the local races every season, with the Trailer race being her favorite of all. She spent most Saturday nights playing pinochle with friends, family and her Grandma Moffett, whom she loved very much. Her most prized collection is her carousel ponies of all different shapes, sizes and themes. She loved to bowl, until her health no longer allowed. Alisa was a very complex woman who loved everyone in her life very much and wanted to be loved.
Surviving Alisa is her loving husband of 13 years, Kenny Moon; son Shane Moon; adopted daughter Shelley McAllister of Idaho; parents Terry and Faye Moffett of Oregon; siblings, Tim Moffett of Washington, Anita Moffett of Washington, Shelley Dayley of Twin Falls, Amie Cantrell of Idaho, Andi Kinney of Idaho, Mc Kay Dayley of Oregon and Gabriel Dayley of Utah; adopted grandchildren, Dusty, Justin and Austin Hitton; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Her mother, Peggy Gupton, and beloved grandmother, Hilda Moffett, preceded her in death.
Memorial services for Alisa will be held Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, with High Priest Ray Griffin officiating. All services and arrangements are under the direction of Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Ronald McDonald House or to the American Cancer Society.
Jorge Santacruz
RUPERT -- Jorge Santacruz, a 21-year-old Rupert resident, passed away Feb. 11, 2005, in Rupert from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Jorge was born April 23, 1983, in Degollado, Jalisco, Mexico, the son of Jesus and Lucia Santacruz. He married
Nancy Gil on May 18, 2004 in Rupert. He enjoyed listening to music, drawing and painting. He was a member of the St. Nicholas Catholic Church.
Jorge is survived by his wife, Nancy Santacruz, and his son, Jorge Santacruz Jr.; his parents Jesus and Lucia Santacruz; six brothers: Rogelio, Ventura, Juan, Pedro, Jose F., and Jesus Santacruz; three sisters: Martha, Maria and Alicia; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 802 F St.
Burial will follow at the Paul cemetery. A recitation of the Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at the church with a visitation one hour before the Rosary and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel.
Dwight E. Ross
BURLEY -- Dwight E. Ross, a 73-year-old resident of Burley, returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Attica, Kan., on May 8, 1931, the son of Duncan and Mary Katherine Kiser Ross. He married
Darlene Faye Hoppes in Hazelton, Kan., in 1950. Together, they had four children. Darlene passed away in 1985. He then married
Sharon Lee Matthews Startin on May 15, 1988, in Jerome. A stepdaughter and stepson joined this union.
Dwight lived in Kiowa, Kan., until 1954, when he moved to Idaho. He engaged in farming where he worked for Shelby Williams, Joe Morgan and Bob Scott and for the past five years he was employed by Rocky Hagan and Randy Grant.
Dwight was a friendly person who never knew a stranger. His hobbies were fishing, bowling, water skiing, playing pinochle, motorcycle riding and hunting coyotes with family and friends. He played 14 years with two bands called Sinners and the Valley Boys, where he played bass guitar.
Dwight really enjoyed hanging out at the Golden Heritage Senior Center in Burley. He truly loved giving Debbie a hard time. Jokes were his main pastime.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon of Burley; three sons, Craig (Joy) Ross of Burley, Jeff Ross of Twin Falls and Brian Ross of Salt Lake City, Utah; one daughter, Connie Conner of Oakley; one stepdaughter, Christal (Dennis) Bossert of Rupert; one stepson, Duane E. Startin Jr., of Manassas, Va.; a brother, Alfred Dale Ross of Mineral Wells, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Marcella (Kay) Campbell of Pocatello, Dixie Matthews of Rupert and Frances Jones of Meridian; one brother-in-law, Wayne (Julie) Matthews of Eagle, Idaho; five grandchildren, Mary, Katie, Elizabeth, Richard and Dustin; three step grandchildren, William, Kenneth and Haleigh; and four great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Billy, Kamillia and Shelby Lynn.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lois Smalley; one brother, Loyd David Ross; a sister-in-law, Zelma Ross; a foster stepbrother, Jerry Reddick; a son-in-law, Richard Conner; and his mother and father-in-law, Edna and Frank Matthews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, where friends and family may call one hour prior to the funeral. Cremation will precede the service.
