Martha Fowler
Martha Fowler, 85, died at Plantation Place, her assisted living residence in Boise, Idaho, Friday, Dec. 10, 2004.
A celebration of life memorial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Plantation Place, 3921 Kessinger Lane, phone (208) 853-7300, in Boise. A burial will be held in Paul, Idaho, arrangements are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home.
Martha was born in Nampa, Idaho, on Aug. 6, 1919, the daughter of David and Katherine Klauser.
She married
William Fowler of Rockford, Illinois, in April 1939, and moved to the southern Idaho area where they farmed for several years.
Surviving Martha are her daughter, Barbara Fowler of Seattle; her son, Jerry Fowler and his wife, Sue, of Boise; two granddaughters, Amber Kofoed and Elizabeth Fowler; two grandsons, Tony and Jeff Fowler; three sisters, Eldine Judd, Irene Simons and Ruby Fairchild; two great grandsons, Kevin and Logan Fowler.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; a daughter, Deborah Hayden; two grandsons, Nick and Matthew Hayden; two sisters, Emma Weber and Lillian Starr; and two brothers, Edward and Herman Klauser.
Martha will be missed by all who knew her. Her family extends a special thanks to the staff, friends and her special friend, Eusebio, at Plantation Place, and to hospice for their comforting support and care.
Martha's family suggests that memorials in lieu of flowers be given to Special Olympics-Idaho, 8426 Fairview Ave., Boise, ID 83704
Margie DeJager VanderPol
Margie DeJager VanderPol, 71, of Castleford, passed away Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at her home.
Margie was born Oct. 31, 1933, in Sneek, Friesland, the Netherlands, the daughter of Arthur and Alice DeJager. At age 2 months she immigrated to the United States and grew up in Artesia, Calif. As a young, single woman, she held a job in a factory where she operated as a floor manager. Her favorite things to do were to travel and do housework. She married
at age 25, Bill VanderPol, who was a widower with three children ages 2, 3 and 4. The rest of her life she was a professional wife and homemaker. She loved to watch her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During her married
life she also, along with her husband, spent 10 years as a missionary to the Indians of southern Mexico. One of her greatest joys was to do work at the church and visit with her close friends. She was an immaculate housekeeper and never shied away from hard work. She was loving and kind to everyone who crossed her path and loved the 11 years that she and her family lived in Idaho.
Margie is survived by her husband, Bill of Castleford; children, Dianna (Donald) Gaalswyk of Castleford, Carol (Jerrold) Visser of Castleford and William Peter (Linda) VanderPol IV of Blythe, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, Marsha Visser Anderson, Debra Gaalswyk Easterday, Donald Gaalswyk II, Sharon Visser, William Peter VanderPol V, Mike VanderPol, Bradley Visser, Darlene Gaalswyk Kuyper, Denise Gaalswyk, Russell Visser, Kati VanderPol, Jonathan Jarvis, James Jarvis and Jordan Jarvis; four great-grandchildren, Jerrod Anderson, Alicia Easterday, Jackson Anderson and William Peter VanderPol VI; one brother Edward (Cobi) DeJager of Chowchilla, Calif.; one sister, Nadine Jongsma of Corona, Calif.; and a niece and nephew, Tracey and Andrew Jarvis of Castleford, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at the Twin Falls Reformed Church with Pastor Brian Vriesman officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the West End cemetery in Buhl. A viewing for family and friends will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 15, at White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park," in Twin Falls. The family suggests memorials be given to the Magic Valley Christian School, 1631 Grandview Drive N. in Twin Falls.
Gaylia C. Matthews Mehrer
DECLO -- Gaylia C. Matthews Mehrer, a 55-year-old resident of Declo, left this earthly existence, surrounded by her family, to join her Father in Heaven on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, following a courageous battle with cancer.
The daughter of John "White" and Nelda Hill Matthews, Gaylia was born June 29, 1949, in Burley, Idaho. Gaylia was a graduate of Declo High School, where she was active in many organizations. After graduating, she attended the LDS School of Business in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she met and married
John L. Swanson. Together, they had two children, Rich and Robin. They later divorced.
Gaylia never met a stranger, and was loved by all that came to know her for her generous heart, and strong spirit. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She was a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend. She was grandma Gaya to all little ones, and "Mom" to all in need.
Gaylia loved the outdoors, gardening, rafting and camping with a roaring fire and good hot-dog roast. With Ruland Sparks, her companion of 21 years, she enjoyed the last 15 years in Washington, where she helped the desert bloom into a beautiful two-acre yard of greenery and flowers that were admired by all who were able to witness it. As her illness progressed, she sadly left her wonderful gardens to return to Idaho, into the loving arms of her family.
She is survived by her two children, Rich L. (Dawn) Swanson of Baton Rouge, La., and Robin (Gary) Thoren of Declo; her grandchildren, Brogan, Bayley and Bryana Thoren, and Nathan Sparks; her mother, Nelda Matthews of Declo; three brothers, Mike H. (Nan) Matthews, Scott (Sherri) Matthews and John (Teresa) Matthews; three sisters, Joan (Harvey) Bell, Janet (Randy) Brackenbury and Shirley Matthews; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, John "White" Matthews; a sister, Karen Matthews; and a nephew, Brad Matthews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at the Declo Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 213 W. Main St., with Bishop Steven Darrington officiating. Burial will be in the Declo cemetery. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
John Wayland Guinn
GOODING -- John Wayland Guinn passed away Feb. 11, 2005, at the Gooding County Memorial Hospital.
John was born March 24, 1925, in Midway, Tenn., to John M. and Myrtle Guinn and attended Mosheim High School in Midway. In 1942 he completed an "Army Test" Welding Course in Nashville.
In January 1944, he moved with his family to a farm northwest of Gooding where he farmed with his father. On Nov. 14, 1954, he married
Frances Uriona.
John was a member of the Gooding Country Club and a former member of the Idaho Odd Fellows Lodge. For many years he drove long haul truck for Montana Express in Wendell and then drove short haul for Southern Idaho Transport in Twin Falls.
John is survived by his wife, Frances; stepson, John (Peggy) Beitia of Eagle, Idaho; granddaughters, Maria, Julie and Amy; great-grandchildren, Cidney, Chandler and Kyla; sisters, Ann (Howard) Williams of Vista, Calif., and Willie Henderson of Gooding; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Myrtle Guinn and a special niece, Mary James Brown.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Demaray's Gooding Chapel with the Rev. Andy Morris. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gooding Hospital Foundation or to any charity of choice.
Perry Alan Tracy
TWIN FALLS -- Perry Alan Tracy, age 51, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 22, 1953, at Rupert, Idaho, the son of Weldon B. and Dorothy A. Nelson Tracy. Perry was a longtime resident of the Magic Valley, graduating from Burley High School and serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New England States Mission. Upon returning, he entered the United States Army where he honorably served his country. On May 1, 1975, he married
Raymona Lambert in the Idaho Falls Temple. He loved the out-of-doors, camping, hunting, fishing, Dutch oven cooking and was a avid scouter with the Boy Scouts, serving as scout master, a position that he loved and honored. Perry was employed at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center as a medical technologist.
In addition to his wife, Raymona of Twin Falls, he is survived by his children, Raymond (Brenda) Tracy of Chubbuck, Idaho, and Joseph (Kimberly) Tracy of Twin Falls; three grandchildren, Sierra, Savannah and Krystal; mother, Dorothy A. Tracy of Chubbuck, Idaho; brothers, Vaughn (Pam) Tracy of Twin Falls and Oscar (Melodie) Tracy of Chubbuck, Idaho; sisters, Angelene (David) Jones of West Point, Utah, and Bonnie Tracy of Burley, Idaho; four nephews; one niece; and one great-niece. He was preceded in death by his father and one niece, Sarah Tracy.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at the 8th Ward LDS Chapel, 667 Harrison St., Twin Falls, with Bishop Mark Lyden officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park" and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the services at 2 p.m. Monday at Pleasant View cemetery in Burley.
Dorothy Lorraine Hutchings
TWIN FALLS -- Dorothy Lorraine Hutchings, 87, went home to join the Lord Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at her home in Twin Falls. She bravely battled cancer for the last few months of her life.
Dorothy (Dot) led a very interesting life. She was born in Twin Falls on Jan. 30, 1918. She was the youngest of five children. Her parents were J. Merrill Stepp and Lily Stepp. There were early pioneer settlers of the Magic Valley.
The Stepps came to Twin Falls from Pocatello by wagon in about 1910. They farmed south of Twin Falls for about 10 years. Around 1920 they moved to a farm south of Kimberly. This is where Dorothy spent her childhood. She went to schools in Kimberly where she was an excellent student.
She and Donald (Don) Hutchings graduated from the same class in Kimberly High School in 1935. Dorothy married
Don in Reno, Nev., in 1939. They were looking forward to their 67th wedding anniversary this summer when Dot passed. They had a wonderful marriage full of fun and adventure.
Dorothy was an early airplane pilot. She learned to fly at the old Twin Falls airport in 1941. This airport was located slightly east of the present airport. Dorothy was a charter member of the Twin Falls Fliers Club, one of the longest running aviation clubs in the United States. In 1941, the club purchased a new Piper Cub airplane in Portland, Ore., and Dorothy and her flight instructor went to Portland and flew it back to Twin Falls.
She flew several missions for the Civil Air Patrol and one of her duties was flying the daily military mail back and forth from Boise Air Base to the Pocatello Air Base.
During World War II Dorothy and her husband, Don, moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where Don was an instructor pilot in the War Training Service at the Bennett Flying School at the old Pocatello City airport. During this period Dorothy ferried a number of light planes into Pocatello from various airports in Washington and Oregon.
Shortly after this, Don was called into active duty in the U.S. Navy Air Corps and was assigned as a flight instructor at New Orleans and Glenview, a city near Chicago. Dorothy accompanied him during this time.
After the war, they returned to Pocatello where Don continued work as a flight instructor until 1950 when they moved back to Twin Falls. They have lived here ever since.
Dorothy loved taking care of her home and tended a beautiful yard, full of gorgeous flowers. She knew most of them by their formal names and also studied and could identify hundreds of birds. She felt a day was wasted if she could not learn something new.
Dorothy read avidly all her life and enjoyed learning the history of various countries, their cultures and politics. She loved to travel and she and Don took many overseas tours to destinations as varied as Russia, Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Africa, China and the European countries.
Another one of her favorite pastimes was playing cards. She belonged to a bridge club and she looked forward to seeing and visiting with her many friends.
Dorothy was a modest, quiet lady who always thought of others first -- never of herself. She had many wonderful friends and always said she enjoyed visiting with people of all ages, because each age was interesting. She cared deeply for people in need and often donated to worthwhile charities and to her church. She loved animals, especially cats, and was a good "grandmother" to her daughter's pets. Dorothy loved poetry, beautiful art and she especially enjoyed Chinese and Egyptian artwork. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Don; her daughter, Jan; and various cousins. Her parents, sisters and brother all preceded her in death.
A funeral for Dorothy will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, with Pastor Jim Tubbs officiating. Interment will follow at the Twin Falls cemetery in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Dorothy, we miss you so much that our hearts ache, but now you are free of pain. Your loving, generous spirit will never be forgotten. We count the days until we join you in Paradise.

Lillie Ann Merrill
TWIN FALLS -- Lillie Ann Merrill, age 92, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at the Twin Falls Care Center following a recent illness.
She was born Sept. 25, 1912, in Nine Mile, Tenn. She and her family moved to Idaho in the 1920s.
Lillie is survived by four children, Jean Carrington, John Bybee, Larry Bybee and David Bybee, along with two brothers, Edgar and Eldon Burgess; and a sister, Mary Ellen Partin. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Claud Bybee, Bill Kibbee and Sam Merrill, along with a son, Lee Bybee.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at the West End cemetery in Buhl. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls.
Jerry Lee Russell
RUPERT -- Jerry Lee Russell, a 53-year-old Rupert resident, passed away Feb. 16, 2005, at his home.
Jerry was born June 9, 1951, in Rupert to Curtis and Oleta Mae Russell. He received a degree in diesel mechanics and liked to work with pallets. He enjoyed motorcycles, especially Harley Davidsons, his solitude and also visiting with his family.
Jerry is survived by his children, Tiffany Vasquez, Alicia Peak, Shane, Nicole, Bobby and Suprena Russell and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Curtis Russell, Oleta Mae Baker, Mary Ann Staker, Ronnie Gene Russell and Nicole Gambino.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel.
Anna Lou Schwarz-Kleinkopf
TWIN FALLS -- Anna Lou Schwarz-Kleinkopf, 98, of Twin Falls, passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at Mountain View Care Center in Kimberly, Idaho.
Anna was born Dec. 8, 1906, in Wellington, Texas, the daughter of Herbert Austin and Julia Ann Hayhurst Jones. On May 5, 1942, she married
her husband, Paul Schwarz. Together, they owned and operated Schwarz Office Machines and Printing Shop. To this marriage were born two children, John and Owassa. On Nov. 11, 1971, Paul passed away. Anna then married
Charles Kleinkopf on March 26, 1986, and they were married
until Charles passed away on Jan. 29, 1994.
Anna loved taking care of her family and she enjoyed genealogy in her spare time. Anna was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving Anna are her two children, John Schwarz of Twin Falls and Owassa (John) Landis of Sacramento, Calif. Also surviving is her brother, Donald Jones; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Her parents; brothers, Merle, Travis and Durward; sister, Bennie Wayne; and husbands, Paul and Charles, preceded her in death.
A funeral for Anna will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4th Ward, Harrison Stake Center with Bishop Mark Plant officiating. Interment will be held following the service at the Sunset Memorial Park cemetery in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at the Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, and for one hour prior to service at the church.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Mountain View Care Center for their love and kindness to Anna during her stay.
