Michael K. Makin
TWIN FALLS -- Michael K. Makin, 54, of Twin Falls, died suddenly Sunday evening, Jan. 30, 2005, at his home in Twin Falls.
Mike was born on Feb. 11, 1950, in Boise, Idaho, the son of Neil and Dorothy Fiscus Makin. At the age of 5 he and his family moved to Twin Falls. He attended schools in Twin Falls, graduating from Twin Falls High School in 1969. In high school, Mike was an excellent athlete, excelling in wrestling, track, and was all-state in football. Following high school he furthered his education by attending the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho; where he obtained his business administration degree in 1974.
Mike returned to Twin Falls where he received his journeyman license and started his career as an electrician. He owned and operated, Eclipse Electric for seven years before working with the union which he continued up to the time of his death.
Mike was a certified scuba diver and loved water activities especially in the ocean. He loved the tropics, living in Hawaii, Mexico, New Zealand and Australia. Mike enjoyed traveling to Belize, the Yucatan in Mexico and Acapulco to see his friends.
Mike is survived by his parents, Neil and Dorothy Makin of Twin Falls; one brother, Mark (Tamara) Makin of Twin Falls; as well as two nephews, Stryder Makin, who is in the U.S. Navy and Steeley Makin of Twin Falls.
He was preceded in death by one nephew, Axel Makin.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Reynolds Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dale Metzger officiating. At Mike's request there will be no public viewing and cremation will take place under the direction of Reynolds Funeral Chapel.
The family suggest memorials be given in Mike's name to the Pediatric Heart Association. Contributions may be given to funeral chapel staff or mailed to Reynolds Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 1142, Twin Falls, ID 83303.

Ertie Louisa Blake
JEROME -- Ertie Louisa Blake, 90, of Jerome, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 31, 1914, at Berryville, Ark., the daughter of John E. and Lucinda A. Curnutt Franklin and was reared and educated there.
Ertie met her future husband, Vernon Blake at a tent meeting and they were later married at Mason City, Iowa, on March 24, 1934. He preceded her in death in 1990.
They lived in Minnesota and Arkansas prior to their move to Idaho in 1951, then moved to California for a short time and then returned to Idaho in 1952.
She was a faithful church member and always attended church rain or shine.
Ertie attended Faith Chapel Assembly of God in Jerome from 1952 until 1991 and was very active in programs and ministries. Since 1991 she has attended the First Assembly of God church in Twin Falls, and the Free Will Baptist Church in Jerome.
Ertie loved her family, friends and relatives. She had a generous, gentle and loving heart and lived an honest, moral and dedicated Christian life.
Survivors include her children, Gerald (Betty) Blake, Merlin (Shirley) Blake and Janice Beadz all of Jerome; and one sister, Marie Spranger of Twin Falls. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral for Ertie Blake will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at the Hove Robertson Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Gene Kissinger officiating. Burial will follow in the Jerome cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the chapel and from 9 until 10 a.m. Thursday.

Elaine Hunt Pike Drew
HEYBURN -- Elaine Hunt Pike Drew, a 96-year-old Heyburn resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005.
She was born Nov. 24, 1908, in Lexington, Neb., the daughter of Roy Samuel and Bertha Owings Hunt. She graduated from Burley High School. She married Gaylord Pike on Jan. 1, 1928, in Kimberly. He preceded her in death in 1936. Elaine then married John Edward Drew on Feb. 27, 1948, in Burley. Each brought to this union a son, Gayle Pike and Don E. Drew. John preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 2003, after 55 years of marriage.
They lived in the Emerson area where they farmed until John's retirement. In their retirement years John and Elaine enjoyed traveling to Quartzite, Ariz., to spend the winter months. She has been a member of the Burley First Christian Church since she was 9 years old and was very active in the local, state and national level of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was a lifetime member of the Ruth Rebekah Lodge #107, a member of the Claremont Grange, the Emerson Grange and participated with the Cassia County Fair Board.
Survivors include five grandchildren, Patrick Pike, Gayle (Tracy) Pike and Michael (Audra) Pike, all of West Jordan, Utah, Diana (Rick) Quanstrom of Meridian and Debbie (Gene) Gibson of Boise; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Nadine Christensen of Burley; a brother, Lowell (Lue) Hunt of Klamath Falls, Ore.; a sister-in-law, Roxana Hunt of Othello, Wash.; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Drew of Heyburn; and five nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Bernice and Mildred; a brother, Robert Hunt; a son, Gayle Pike; and a stepson, Don E. Drew.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2005, at the Burley First Christian Church, 1401 Oakley Ave., with Pastor Herb C. Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery in Burley. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Payne Mortuary, 221 W. Main St. in Burley, and from noon to 12:45 p.m. prior to the funeral on Friday at the church. The family suggests memorials be given to the Burley First Christian Church Youth Camp Scholarship Fund.

LeOla Van Every
RUPERT -- LeOla Van Every, an 84-year-old Rupert resident, died Jan. 31, 2005, at St Alphonsus Hospital in Boise.
LeOla was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Buhl, Idaho, the daughter of Joseph Elwin and Dollie Hammond. She attended schools at Moore, Idaho, in Lost River Country, Pioneer School in Minidoka County and Rupert High School. She married Ray Wall on Sept. 18, 1937, and they raised four children. Ray died on Nov. 11, 1997. LeOla married Leo Van Every on March 12, 2000, and they made their home in Rupert, Idaho.
LeOla is survived by her husband, Leo Van Every, and all her children, Le Rae Asson, Colleen (Wayne) Henderson, David (Nicola) Wall and Gary Wall; stepson, Edward (Andrea) Van Every; stepdaughter, Mary (Vince) Ebersole; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her sister, Nedra Caldwell of Rupert.
She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at the Rupert cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church at 1250 21st St. Heyburn, Idaho. Arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel.

Joseph L. 'Joe' Lourenco
JEROME -- Joseph L. "Joe" Lourenco, 39, of Jerome, passed away Jan. 31, 2005, at his home.
He was born April 15, 1965, in Terceira, Azores, Portugal, the son of Jeremiah and Maria Gonsalves Lourenco. Joe married Diane Souza on March 3, 1990. They made their home in Jerome where they owned and operated J&D; Lourenco Dairies, LLC.
Joe is survived by his wife, Diane Lourenco of Jerome; children, Joseph of Boulder, Colo., and Katie of Jerome; his mother, Maria Lourenco of Hilmar, Calif.; four brothers, Tony (Sara) Lourenco of Los Banos, Calif., Jerry (Mary Lou) Lourenco of Hilmar, Calif., Frank (Irene) Lourenco of Atwater, Calif., and George Lourenco of Merced, Calif. He is also survived by his mother-in-law and his father-in-law, Mary Jean and John Souza of Turlock, Calif., and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Joe will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and friend. He was an excellent dairyman and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A funeral will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at St. Jerome's Catholic Church, 216 Second Ave. E., Jerome, with Father Ronald Wekerle presiding. A visitation will be held where family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at St. Jerome's Catholic Church, and again one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment to follow in the Wendell cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 S. Lincoln, Jerome, ID 83338.

Carl Clair Miller
TWIN FALLS -- Carl Clair Miller, age 85, died early Friday morning after complications following a heart attack.
Carl was born June 1, 1919, in Filer, Idaho, to Ernest W. Miller and Larua Belle Guthrie Miller. He was the fifth of five children. After graduating from Filer High School, he joined the U.S. Army in 1941. He served as a master sergeant in military intelligence during World Word II, first in Washington, D.C. and then in London, England. In London he met Mary McMillan Williamson, whom he married in Vancouver, British Columbia, on March 28, 1946. Upon returning to the Twin Falls area, he worked at the flour mill and then at Friedman Bag. Carl retired in 1986, two years after Mary's death.
Carl is survived by his children, Carlene (Dave) Pedersen and Mark (Katie Keefe) Miller; his grandchildren, Lindsey (Matt) Thomas, Nancy (John) Murphy, and Kelsey (Ron) Valenzuela; his great-grandchildren, Lucy Murphy and Claire Murphy; and his sister, Elizabeth (K.W.) Hudson, formerly of Sacramento, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; his brothers, Owen Miller and Lyle Miller; and his sister, Gela Miller.
A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, Parke's Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Melvin Johnny Coleman
TWIN FALLS -- Melvin Johnny Coleman, died Feb. 1, 2005, in Twin Falls, Idaho, from complications from surgery.
Melvin was born March 20, 1923, in Arkansas and lived in California, where he worked as a printing press operator for 33 years. He moved to Idaho in 1978 and started dairying in Buhl. Johnny was an avid bowler.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Coleman of 60 years; his sons, Larry and Brad; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at the Amazing Grace Fellowship.
We would like to thank all of the medical personnel.

Edith Pavkov
TWIN FALLS -- Edith Pavkov, 89, a resident of Twin Falls, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Bridgeview Estates in Twin Falls.
Edith was born on Feb. 28, 1915, in Indianapolis, Ind., the daughter of Milan and Julia Marity Pavkov.
She is survived by her brother, Joe (Junaita) Pavkov of Gooding; her sister, Mildred Frith of Wendell; and numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be conducted by the Pavkov family at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at the Elmwood cemetery in Gooding. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Demaray's Gooding Chapel.

Erwin John Bernthal
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Erwin John Bernthal, 95, of Lincoln, Neb., died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005.
He was born to John P. and Christiana (Seidel) Bernthal on Aug. 20, 1909, in Arlington, Neb.
He is a Ret. Lutheran Pastor serving parishes in Schuyler, Neb., (Trinity Lutheran) from 1935 to 1939; in Sheridan, Wyo., Immanuel Lutheran from 1939 to 1949; Wayne, Neb., (Grace Lutheran) from 1949 to 1973; in Twin Falls, Idaho, (Immanuel Lutheran) from 1973 to 1986 and was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
He is survived by wife, Ema; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Marilyn Bernthal, Lincoln, Fredrick Bernthal and Heather Lancaster, Washington. D.C., Stuart and Katherine Bernthal, Lincoln, Ill.; daughters, Rebecca Bernthal, Lincoln, and Christine Bernthal, Omaha; grandchildren, Bradley, Justin, Matthew and Joshua Bernthal and Kirsten Booth; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Bernthal.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at Christ Lutheran Church, 4325 Sumner St. with the Rev. Dr. Luke R. Schnake. Graveside service at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood cemetery, Wayne, Neb.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, to The Lutheran Hour Ministries, Camp Perkins (Idaho), Concordia Seminary (St. Louis), Grace Lutheran Scholarship Fund (Wayne) or donor's choice. Visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday with family greeting friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at Roper and Sons, 4300 '0' St. and one hour prior to service time at the church.

Margaret A. Henderson
GOODING -- Margaret Anne Henderson, 82, a resident of Gooding, Idaho, answered the call of our Lord at her home on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Walla Walla, Wash., on Sept. 23, 1920, to William and Florence Gillander.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Loyall (Sweede) Henderson.
She is survived by her children, Karen George, Karel Collins, John Henderson, Arla Hoodboy, Shirley Robinson and Celia Henderson; and her sisters, Florence Steuwer, Jean Rakich and Arlene Wilder.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at The United Methodist Church, Gooding, Idaho. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Demaray's Gooding Chapel.

Manuel Xander Morales
BURLEY -- Manuel Xander Morales, two-week-old infant, passed away on Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born on Jan. 21, 2005, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Manuel and Veronica Gomez Morales.
Xander was a true fighter from beginning to end. He loved to hold hands. We will miss his touch and look forward to being reunited with him.
He is survived by his mom and dad; his sisters, Xyriah (6), Zariah (4) and Imoni (9) of Burley, Idaho; his grandparents, Robert and Janet Gomez of Burley, Idaho, Connie (Alan) Gage of Las Vegas, Nev., and Refugio Morales of Paul, Idaho; his great-grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at Little Flower Catholic Church, 1601 Oakley Ave., Burley, with the Rev. Father Juan Garatea as celebrant. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery. Friends may call from 10 until 10:45 a.m. on Friday at the church. Funeral arrangements are being conducted by Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley.
