Etta Viola Jones Taylor
ALMO -- Etta Viola Jones Taylor, 98, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at the Minidoka Memorial Hospital Extended Care Facility in Rupert.
She was born Nov. 22, 1906, in a two-room, dirt-roofed log cabin in Almo. She was the oldest of five children born to Ernest Dennis and Lucy Bronson Jones.
Graduating as the valedictorian from grade school in Almo (1922) and high school in Albion (1925), she completed the latter a year earlier than normal because she missed living away from her family and home. In 1927, she graduated from Albion State Normal School, receiving a lifetime certificate to teach elementary and intermediate grades in Idaho. Her 31-year career included teaching in Malta, Almo and Heglar and also being principal in Almo. She added a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Idaho State University in 1965.
Etta married
Wallace Charles Taylor on June 8, 1932, in the Logan LDS Temple. He ranched in the area while she taught school and cared for the many flower gardens surrounding their home. They are the parents of one son, Robert Ellis Taylor, born March 6, 1934, who was the joy of her life.
Besides gardening, Etta enjoyed personal and family history, genealogy, writing, tatting and crocheting, traveling on church and U.S. history tours and fishing in local creeks and reservoirs. A member of the Almo Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she enjoyed teaching, music and leadership opportunities in the various auxiliaries.
Survivors include one sister, and Lucy Maxine Jones Powers of Malta; a brother, Ross Owen Jones of Wickenburg, Ariz.; a daughter-in-law, Carole Taylor Olsen of Fort Collins, Colo.; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wally; her son, Bob; sister, Ruth Ilene Jones Wake of Orem, Utah; and a brother, Joseph Ernest Jones.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Almo Ward Chapel, with Bishop Kent Durfee officiating. Burial will be in the Sunny Cedar Rest cemetery in Almo. Friends may call from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Payne Mortuary, 221 W. Main St. in Burley.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of the care center at Minidoka Memorial Hospital as well as friends, neighbors and church members from Almo and Rupert who visited, served and uplifted her during her 15 years there. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Etta's memory to either the Almo or Malta Elementary Schools through D. L. Evans Bank in Albion.
Kenneth Rex Kofoed
RUPERT -- Kenneth Rex Kofoed, a 55-year-old resident of Rupert, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at his home of a sudden illness.
Ken was born Aug. 13, 1949, in Pocatello, Idaho, the son of Kenneth Rex and Betty Lou Tillotson Kofoed. He lived in Lava Hot Springs until the age of 9, when he moved with his family to a homestead north of Rupert. This is where he lived and raised his family until his passing.
Ken graduated from Minico High School in 1967, and continued his education at Boise State and Idaho State Universities. He married
the love of his life, Joyce C. Schenk, on March 21, 1970, in Rupert. They raised three outstanding sons, Jim, Dan and Steve.
Ken worked for 29 years as a professional electrician, journeyman and contractor. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Other interests included gun-smithing, being a mechanic, flint knapping and photography. If it was something he wanted to do he taught himself how to do it.
We loved him as a husband, our father, a son and brother. He will live forever in our hearts.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Rupert; his three sons, Jim (Amber) Kofoed, Dan Kofoed and Steve Kofoed all of Twin Falls; his parents, Rex and Betty Kofoed of Rupert; and two sisters, Susan (George) Sauers of Idaho Falls and Julie (Terry) Folks of Twin Falls.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley. Officiating will be the Rev. David L. Poovey. Burial will be in Rupert cemetery. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the funeral Thursday at Rasmussen Funeral Home.
Nery 'Oscar' Fernando Ramirez Sanchez
JEROME -- Nery "Oscar" Fernando Ramirez Sanchez, 34, of Jerome, passed away Jan. 3, 2005, in Jerome, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Oscar was born May 27, 1970, in Guatemala. He moved to Idaho in 1999 where he was employed by Vanderham Dairy until the time of his death.
Oscar is survived by his partner, Jobie Garcia; their two children, JC and J-lyn Ramirez-Garcia; and stepson, Myner Garcia, all of Jerome. He is also survived by his sister, Carmen Ramirez of Jerome; his parents and many extended family members.
A funeral and interment will be held in Guatemala. Arrangements are under the care of Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 S. Lincoln, Jerome, ID 83338.
Norma Jean Blevins
JEROME -- Norma Jean Blevins, 80, of Jerome, passed away Jan. 13, 2005, in Twin Falls, Idaho, with her sons at her side.
She was born July 27, 1924, in Red Rock, Okla., the daughter of James and Frona Driesel. As a young girl, she moved to Idaho with her family and attended schools in Jerome. She married
Coy Blevins July 3, 1942, and together they raised three sons. Norma loved to work in her yard and garden. Keeping it green and trimmed was very important to her. She planted a huge garden every year and then worked hard to get all of the green beans and tomatoes canned. She worked hard all of her life and spent many seasons working the potato harvest and hoeing beets and beans. Norma loved spending time outside. Norma was an excellent cook and loved to cook and bake for her family. Mostly, she loved her family very much and looked forward to their visits.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis (Cathie) Blevins of Twin Falls and Doug (Cheri) Blevins of Jerome; grandchildren, Teresa Cooper, Cindy Goodrich, Brian Blevins, Brad Blevins, Brandi Borrowman, Ashley Blevins, Abbie Blevins, Maddi Blevins and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Eva Emerson of Boise, Mildred Mathis of Pratt, Kan., and Arlene Fallon of Jerome.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Coy Blevins; and their son, Don Blevins, three sisters and two brothers.
A funeral for Norma will be held at noon today at the Farnsworth Mortuary Chapel, 1343 S. Lincoln, Jerome, with the Rev. Bruce Stevens officiating. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Jerome cemetery.
Ronald Allen Laumb
DECLO -- Ronald Allen Laumb, a 62-year-old resident of Declo, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center.
He was born on Sept. 4, 1942, in Pleasant Hill Township, Minn., to Reinert "Ray" and Katherine Veir Laumb. He married
Kathleen Davison on Sept. 7, 1977.
Ron was very involved in rodeo. Even though he did not participate, he helped many of the Magic Valley youth. From 1979 until 1997, he was very involved in the Idaho High School Rodeo Association as a director. His greatest loves in life were his children, grandchildren, and a good horse.
He is survived by his wife, Kathi of Declo; a daughter, Carrie Laumb of Anderson Island, Wash.; two sons, Terry (Julie) Laumb of Rupert, and Cody (Katy) Laumb of Walla Walla, Wash.; five grandchildren, Ashley, Jessica, Taylor, Sage and Colton; one great-grandson, Myles; his mother, Katherine Laumb of Plainview, Minn.; two sisters, Rebecca Laumb of New York City and Karen Laumb of Rochester, Minn.
He is preceded in death by his father, Reinert "Ray" Laumb.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 909 8th St., Rupert, with the Rev. David L. Poovey officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Florence W. Stimpson
PAUL -- Florence Winn Stimpson, an 83-year-old Paul resident died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at the Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert. She was born Feb. 24, 1921, in Heyburn, the daughter of George John and Charlotte Ellen Bennett Winn. She married
Glen Stimpson on Jan. 15, 1938, in Heyburn.
Florence loved her flower beds and gardening, quilting, hosting Sunday breakfast for the family, home canning and helping on the farm.
Survivors include a daughter, Arlene (Joe) Millard of Nampa; a son, Stanley Stimpson of Paul; seven grandchildren, Pam (Mark) Edwards of Pocatello, Judy (Doug) Holladay of Nampa, and Lourie (Jim) Carrie of West Jordan, Utah, Rick (Jodi) Millard of Nampa, Denny (Tana) Stimpson, Brent (Laurie) Stimpson, all of Paul, and Ryan Stimpson of Portland, Ore.; twenty-one great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a brother, Melburn Winn of Paul; and a sister, Louise Petersen of Moscow. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen Stimpson on Aug. 17, 1999; and a son, Michael R. Stimpson on July 14, 2003; and three brothers, six sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at the Payne Memorial Chapel, with Bishop Cody Morgan, officiating. Burial will be in the Paul cemetery. Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
Raymond C. Lancaster
TWIN FALLS -- Raymond C. Lancaster, 86, of Twin Falls, died early Saturday morning, Jan. 15, 2005, at Sun Bridge of Twin Falls.
Ray was born on June 22, 1918 in Filer, the son of Clarence and Goldma Lancaster. He grew up and attended schools in Filer, graduating from Filer High School. Ray farmed in the Magic Valley for many years and raised registered shorthorn cattle. Ray married
Lucille Morgan on Jan. 18, 1940 in Filer. Soon after the marriage they moved to Wendell.
Ray worked for the Wendell Grange Supply for over 20 years until his retirement. Following his retirement, they moved to Twin Falls.
Ray enjoyed fishing, camping at Pine, and was a great pinochle player.
He loved spending time with family and friends. Ray joined the Odd Fellows in 1938, and was an active member for over 66 years in Filer and Wendell.
Ray is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucille Lancaster of Twin Falls; one daughter, Chris (Ron) Revels of Twin Falls; one sister, Dorothy Stroud of Filer. Also surviving are three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Bertha "Bertie" Lancaster and two brothers, Rex Lancaster and Richard Lancaster.
A celebration of Ray's life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005 at Reynolds Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jim Winkle officiating. The Odd Fellow rites are by the Wendell Odd Fellow Lodge # 131. Friends may call on Tuesday one hour prior to the services at Reynolds Chapel.
Cremation will follow services and a private family inurnment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Reynolds Funeral Chapel, Twin Falls.
Virginia Elizabeth Hack
IDAHO FALLS -- Virginia Elizabeth Hack, age 93, of Idaho Falls and formerly of Twin Falls, died at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005.
Virginia was born Jan. 20, 1911, at Mountain Home, Idaho, a daughter of Ellis Elmer Elnathan Crabtree and Mabel Gertrude Morgan Crabtree. She graduated from Gooding College with a bachelor's in education. She taught school for one year before marrying Lewis Ezra Hack in Twin Falls, June 27, 1934. After Lewis retired they traveled extensively, visiting six continents.
She was a member of the Eastern Star Filer Chapter No. 40 and served as Worthy Matron and Past Matron, PEO Chapter BE in Twin Falls and BI Idaho Falls, Republican Women, and the Twin Falls United Methodist Church. Virginia was an avid bridge player, and attained the rank of Life Master in Duplicate Bridge.
She is survived by three daughters, Louise Morrissette of Simi Valley, Calif., Cecile (James) Keith of Englewood, Tenn., and Cheryl (Edward) Zaladonis of Idaho Falls; one sister, Helen Anderson Adkins of Twin Falls; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2000, and a brother, Don Crabtree.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at Fairwinds, Sand Creek Retirement Center, 3310 Valencia Drive, Idaho Falls.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park," 136 Fourth Ave. E., Twin Falls. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until time of the service Wednesday with the family greeting friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment will follow the service in the Sunset Memorial Park cemetery in Twin Falls under the direction of White Mortuary.
Howard E. Icenbice
PAUL -- Howard Earl Icenbice, an 82-year-old resident of Paul, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, of a lingering illness at his home in Paul.
Howard was born July 10, 1922, at his parents' home near Klamath Falls, Ore. He was the second child of five children born to Iven Earl and Louisa Anna Schreiner Icenbice. Howard was raised on a farm near Merrill, Ore., where he attended school. Howard served in the United States Navy during World War II, stationed in Beeville, Texas, where he met and married
Doris Barklow of Pearl City, Ill. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June of 2004, in the company of friends and family.
After serving in the military, Howard and Doris moved to Merrill, where their three daughters were born. Howard operated the family's farm in Merrill, until moving his wife and three daughters to Idaho, in 1956, when they drew on a homestead north of Paul. Howard and his wife lived on the homestead until his retirement in 1981, when he and Doris moved to Paul, where they could be closer to friends.
Howard was a loving father and husband. His patience and kindness were acknowledged by all. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a very talented mechanic, engineer, builder and inventor.
Howard was a member of the Paul United Methodist Church. He served as a member of the Soil and Water Conservation District for 26 years and also served as chairman. He served on the Minidoka County Zoning Commission as chairman, was a member of the Paul American Legion, and was a life member of the Paul Masonic Lodge No. 77. He also was a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Burley-Rupert Shrine Club, El Korah Shrine, Grand Commandery Knights Templar, Royal Arch Masons, Grand Council Cryptic Masons and the Order of the Amaranth.
Howard is survived by his wife, Doris of Paul; three daughters, Linda (Harry) Holler of Green River, Wyo., Sharon Icenbice Sestero of Boise and Norma (Lynn) Bailey of Paul; seven grandchildren, Rick Reed of Green River, Wyo., Niki Curr of Dillon, Mont., Laren Bailey of Boise, Christine Sestero of Pocatello, Jill Linford of Park City, Utah, Eliot Bailey of Boise and Dylan Bailey of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters, Evelyn Peterson and Barbara Dean, both of Merrill, Ore.; and one brother, Leo Icenbice of Klamath Falls, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Iven and Louisa Icenbice; one sister, Margaret Hart; and a grandson, Andrew Sestero.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, with Pastor Elaine Steele officiating. Masonic rites will be provided by the Paul Masonic Lodge No. 77. Burial will be in Paul cemetery with military rites under the direction of Paul American Legion. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Rasmussen Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials be directed to the Paul United Methodist Church or Shriners Hospitals for Children in care of Rasmussen Funeral Home.
Cheri Newby Roberts
ARCO -- Cheri Newby Roberts, 60, of Arco, passed away Tuesday Feb. 1, 2005, at her home.
She was born on Sept. 20, 1944, to Bettie Lou Newby in Caldwell, Idaho, and grew up in and went to school in Nampa. She later moved to Lincoln County where she worked and raised her three children. Cheri moved to Arco where she met and married
the love of her life Mark Roberts.
Together they loved their animals, gardening and spending time with their family.
She is survived by her husband, Mark Roberts of Arco; her mother, Betty Lou Newby of Shoshone; a brother, Dana Newby of Idaho City; her daughters Shawna (Dave) Moore Redd of Caldwell, Shelli (Robert) Erwin Seely of Gannett, LouAnn (Mark) Erwin Whitesell of Arizona; seven grandsons, three nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jay and Elizabeth Locke.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the cancer foundation. At Cheri's request cremation is under the direction of Simpson-Marvel Memorial Chapel, 153 Lost River Ave., Arco.
A celebration of Cheri's life will be held next summer.
