Max Gillette
Max Gillette, an 87-year-old Burley resident, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley.
Max was born Oct. 16, 1917, in Soda Springs, Idaho, the son of Samuel Chappell and Frances Cornia Gillette. He graduated from Declo High School, and attended Duke University.
Max served in the United States Army as a financial officer for six years during World War II. Max married
Elva Taylor on Jan. 4, 1943, in Declo, Idaho. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He worked in real estate for six years and farmed for 34 years in the Raft River area. He was chairman of The Board of Directors for the Burley Highway District for 11 years and a director of the Idaho PCA of Bosie for nine years.
He was a life-member of the Burley Elks. Max loved to fish and spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Elva of Burley; four sons, James Max (Cheryl) Gillette of Burley, Samuel Taylor (Chris) Gillette of Twin Falls, Thomas Dee (Aida) of Bogota, South America, and William Jeffery Gillette of Raft River; one daughter, Sally (Keith) Couch of Burley; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters and a daughter-in-law, Colleen.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Burley West Stake Center, 2420 Parke Ave. with Bishop Tracy King officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Payne Mortuary, 221 W. Main St. in Burley, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Friday at the church.
Floyd Allen Harral
Floyd Allen Harral was born July 25, 1935, in Albion, he passed away Dec. 12, 2004, in Twin Falls.
He was the father of four and husband of 35 years to Barbara Harkins. He was truck driver all his life.
His children, David Wayne Harral of Tucson, Ariz., Veleta Ilene Nania of Boise, Idaho, Crystal DeAnne Neal of Houston, Texas; three grandsons, Joshuah Harral, Brandon and Michael Boyer; longtime friend, Paul Smith of Jerome, Idaho; and ex-wife, Barbara, survive him.
He was preceded in death by one son, Clifford Allen Harral; his parents, Orvil and Veleta Harral; and four brothers, Lloyd, Bill, Virgil and Dale Harral.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at the Buhl West End cemetery.
Don Taylor
A veteran Sweetwater County, Wyo., peace officer passed away last week.
Don Taylor, the Wamsutter resident deputy for the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office, died at his home in Wamsutter, Wyo., Thursday after a brief illness. He was 61.
Born in Gooding, Idaho, in 1943, Taylor grew up in the Gooding County area. A Green Beret Vietnam Conflict combat veteran and military policeman, he began his long career of civilian public service with the Gooding, Idaho, Fire Department in 1967. He served later with the Twin Falls, Idaho, Police Department and from 1972 to 1985 was the chief deputy investigator working narcotics and homicide for the Cassia County Sheriff's Office in Burley, Idaho. Taylor served as town marshal in Wamsutter from 1985 to 1991, when he was appointed the area's resident deputy.
Taylor was among the state's premier arson investigators and traveled widely throughout the state providing specialized arson investigation training to law enforcement agencies, particularly in the Lander-Riverton and Cheyenne areas. Over the course of his career, he completed over 3,000 hours of technical law enforcement and investigative training.
He received many commendation letters and official recognition for distinctive service, including commendations for rescuing lost and stranded people in the remote region of eastern Sweetwater County, an area few knew as well as he.
A life-long outdoorsman, Taylor is survived by his wife, Arelena; son Raymond Taylor of Rawlins; and daughter, Dawn Marie Taylor also of Rawlins; eight grandchildren and many other family members in the Portland and Salem, Ore., areas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex Raymond Alan Taylor and Hazel Lavetta Taylor; sister, Patsy Ann; daughter, Kim; and granddaughter, Sammy Jo.
Faith C. Johnson
Faith C. Johnson left her tethers on Earth to spend Christmas in Glory with our Lord and Savior and her love and husband of 56 years, Ivan. She died at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center on Dec. 24, 2004, after suffering a massive heart attack.
Born March 11, 1923, in Norfolk, Va., Faith was the daughter of Harry John and Gladys Dunstan. Mrs. Johnson attended public schools in Norfolk, later graduating in 1941 from Matthew Fontaine Maury High School.
In 1944, while employed with Goldcraft Portrait Studio, Faith met the love of her life, then First Lieutenant Ivan G. Johnson. They were married
March 11, 1945, in Norfolk, Va. Faith followed Ivan on his various tours of military duty, working mostly in retail sales at department stores until the birth of their daughter, Deborah, in 1950. When Ivan left active duty with the United States Army, the couple returned to Ivan's home in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Faith was employed for a number of years at Van Engelen's Department Store in Twin Falls and also Roper's. In her later years, until retirement, Faith operated a day care from her home, becoming "Grandma Fay Fay" to many Twin Falls children.
Faith was a Past Unit and 5th District President of the American Legion Auxiliary, a counselor at Idaho's Syringa Girls State, a Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girls leader, Sunday school teacher and she served on the Guardian Council of Bethel 56, International Order of Job's Daughters. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Faith is survived by a daughter, Deborah, and Deborah's husband, Dr. Jay A. Hartwell; two granddaughters, Michelle and Melanie Hartwell; a sister, Mrs. Sonia C. Johnson, Norfolk, Va.; a brother, Mr. Jack A. Dunstan, Fredericksburg, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
Faith was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Ivan G. Johnson; a daughter, Georgia Anna; and brothers, Robert (Bobby) Dunstan, Harry Nicholas (Nicky) Dunstan and William A. (Bill) Dunstan all of Norfolk, Va.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, ID 83301, with graveside services to follow at Twin Falls cemetery.
The family sends their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Intensive Care Unit Staff at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center, to Drs. DiMaggio, Pilch and the staff of Southern Idaho Cardiology for their patience and loving attention shown to both Faith and to Deborah and family for the duration of Faith's care.

Louise Alzina Barnes
Louise Alzina Barnes, age 91, died on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Blaine Manor in Hailey with her family by her side.
She was born Oct. 8, 1913, in Pocatello, Idaho, the child of Charles William Carter and Beatrice Maryann Edgley. Louise was an Idaho native and a 50-year resident of the Wood River Valley. She married
Robert Jasper Barnes and they moved to Ketchum in 1961. They lived in the valley until they moved to Hagerman in 1994. Louise worked at the Wooden Spur Restaurant, she helped at the inception of Wagon Days and she was seen behind the counter of Ketchum Drugs and Decosta's.
Louise enjoyed fishing, hunting, going on picnics and riding around looking at the wildlife with her husband, Bob. She loved nurturing her grandchildren and teaching them to cook and to can. Louise was a member of the Ketchum Riding Club and spent time camping and living off the land in the Wood River Valley as well as the McCall area. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Eastern Star, and was active in the Relief Society.
Louise was very talented playing the piano and singing. She led singing at the Long Beach First Ward in the 1940s and 1950s and also sang for many weddings.
Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years, Bob, who diligently cared for her through many illnesses; her daughter, Barbara (Richard) Lewis and their 11 children and 22 grandchildren of St. Louis, Mo.; her daughter, Roberta Kay and her children, Tara and Tony Mallane and granddaughter, Skye McGehee of Hailey; her daughter, Kathy Barnes of Boise; her sister, Willoween (Ross) Harris of Long Beach, Calif.; and her brother, Keith Corbridge and his son, York (Earlinda) Corbridge of Hagerman.
Those preceding her in death were her parents, Charles Carter and Beatrice Corbridge.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at the Hailey LDS Church with Bishop Eric Alberdi conducting. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. at the Joplin cemetery in Meridian, Idaho. Memorial donations are suggested to the Blaine Manor, PO Box 927, Hailey, ID 83333.
Arrangements are under the care of Wood River Chapel of Hailey, Idaho.
Alberta Grant
Alberta Grant, 90, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho.
She was born May 24, 1914, at St. Louis, Mo. She was raised in Eden, Idaho, by her mother, Gertrude and father, Thomas G. Davis. She attended Eden Schools. She married
Robert Grant Oct. 10, 1932, in Rupert, Idaho, and worked side by side with him as a full partner on their farm south of Eden.
She is survived by three sons, Jim (Kathy) Grant of Hazelton, Idaho, Rob (Bev) Grant of Jerome, Idaho, Jack (Charlotte) Grant of Sugarland, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Robert, in 1997.
In her younger years she worked as an LPN at Twin Falls County Hospital and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Eden, Idaho, as well as the Dixon Ladies Club. She was on the board of Silver & Gold Senior Center in Eden and loved playing Bingo every Wednesday night.
She served many years as an election clerk for the school board and attended Valley Presbyterian Church in Hazelton.
A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park," with Pastor Kevin Anderson of Valley Presbyterian Church officiating. Evaline L. Haiman
Evaline L. Haiman, 99, of Twin Falls, passed away Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center.
Evaline was born March 28, 1905 in Fairfield, Neb., the daughter of Joseph and Lavine Hahn. She graduated from high school in Fairfield, Neb., in 1924. It was shortly after graduation that she moved to Idaho. She retired from the Twin Falls Memorial Hospital now Magic Valley Regional Medical Center as a dietary cook. Evaline was a private person but was not afraid to speak her mind when she needed to. She enjoyed sewing and going to Jackpot to play the nickel slots.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands and one sister.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Park with Pastor Jerry Steele officiating. Arrangements and services are under the direction of White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park."
Gladys Laferl Moffett Johnson
Gladys Laferl Moffett Johnson, a 90-year-old Burley resident, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Eagle Mountain, Utah.
She was born May 16, 1914, in View, the daughter of William Alvin and Alice May Robinson Moffett. She attended school in View and Burley, where she graduated from high school. She married
George David Johnson on Sept. 16, 1936, in Logan, Utah. Gladys worked on the family farm with her husband and was the mother of eleven children. Gladys and George were involved in community affairs and local and national politics. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served in various capacities. She enjoyed gardening and spent many hours doing family history.
She especially loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include four daughters, Carol (John) Boyd of Eagle Mountain, Utah, Louise (Peter) Meline of Moorpark, Calif., Sharon (Duane) Hiatt of Provo, Utah, and Kathryn (John) Schorzman of Sublett; four sons, Lynn Johnson of Eagle Mountain, Utah, Steven (Francine) of Tremonton, Utah, Ronald (Judy) Johnson of Concord, Calif., and Gale (Mitzi) Johnson of Winslow, Ariz.; a sister, Betty Lue Bowen of Meridian; 60 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George on Aug. 29, 2001; a brother, Sylvester Alvin Moffett; and three children, Marshall, Elaine and Arthur.
A funeral will be held at noon Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Springdale 1st & 2nd Ward Chapel, 200 S. 475 E. of Burley, with Bishop David Price officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View cemetery in Burley. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Payne Mortuary, 221 W. Main St. in Burley and at the church from 11 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
William Robert (Dub) McHargue
GOODING -- William Robert (Dub) McHargue, age 84, passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at Gooding County Memorial Hospital.
Dub was born on March 8, 1920, in Princeton, Mo., to Ramond and Nellie Cox McHargue. The family moved to Idaho in 1929 and farmed in Jerome, Gooding and Wendell, Idaho. He graduated from Gooding High School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army, overseas with the 252nd Field Artillery in the European Theater, returning to the states in 1945.
While on leave from Ft. Benning, Ga., he married
Almarose Kendrick, March 25, 1944, in Buhl, Idaho. They had two sons, Robert and Terry. Dub owned and operated the Gooding Paint & Body Shop for 30 years. In 1970 he began teaching auto body at the CSI Vocational School, retiring in 1986 after 16 years.
Dub was a member to the Sheriff's Mounted Posse. He loved baseball, bowling and golf. He especially loved watching the grandkids play sports.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Almarose; sons, Robert and his wife, Candy, and Terry and his wife, Sally; stepbrother, Wally Bernard and his wife, Wanda; five grandchildren, Rob and his wife, Katie, Anne, Michael, Nelle and her husband, Justin and Matthew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Walter and Roy.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 13, 2005, at Demaray's Gooding Chapel. Interment will be at the Wendell cemetery in Wendell, Idaho. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 12, at the chapel.

Melba J. McClain
POCATELLO -- Melba Joyce McClain, 66, of Pocatello and formerly of Jerome, Idaho, passed away Sunday evening, Jan. 9, 2005, at Portneuf Medical Center following an illness.
She was born Oct. 16, 1938, in Midwest City, Okla., a daughter of George and Lillian McClain. She worked several years as a health care provider and operated M.J. Home Health Care Services. Melba had eight sisters and two brothers that loved her greatly and played a major role in her life. Her family loved her very much and she will be missed by all that knew her.
She is survived by her seven children, Debbie Joyce McCabe, Carol Lynn Widmer, Melvin Arthur McCabe Jr., Lorena Kay McCabe, Steven Allen McCabe, Cleeta Gail Gonzalez and Darrell Eugene McCabe. Melba has 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at the North Pocatello Stake Center, 4890 Whitaker Road, with Bishop Verlyn DaBell of the Whitaker Ward officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.
