Lila Pearl Barnett Driver
Lila Pearl Barnett Driver, 83, of Boise, formerly of Twin Falls and Salmon, passed away Dec. 12, 2004, at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise.
She was born June 28, 1921, in Leadore, Idaho, the daughter of Glenn and Lora Cork Stroud.
In 1940, she married
Herbert Barnett. To this union was born three daughters. Herb passed away in 1978 and shortly after she moved to Twin Falls. She worked as bookkeeper for the Kimberly Senior Citizens Center for over 20 years.
Lila enjoyed photography, genealogy and had a deep love of people. She was always gadding about and visiting with her friends. Even in her later years her family often had trouble keeping up with her meandering. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving are her are her three daughters, Wendy (Sam) Warren of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Dixie (Steven) Jenkins of Boise and Darlene (Don) Nelson of Richland, Wash.; a brother, Marion Stroud of Salmon; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Her parents; her husband, Herb Barnett; brother, Delbert Stroud; and companion, Lloyd Jones preceded her in death.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at the Salmon LDS Stake Center in Salmon, Idaho, burial will follow at the Salmon cemetery. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls.
Margaret C. Switzer
Margaret C. Switzer, an area resident for 70 years, passed away peacefully last Saturday evening, Dec. 11, 2004, at the age of 93 and in the comfort of the love of her children and friends.
Margaret Caroline (Johnson) Switzer was born March 17, 1911, in Jewell County, Kan., as the second daughter of the six children born of the union of Clara (Winters) Johnson to immigrant John W. Johnson of Vemmerlöv, Sweden. She graduated as 1929 valedictorian of Sinclair High School in Lovewell, Kan., and maintained her normal teaching certificate attending Custer Hall in Hayes, Kan. She taught for several years at the one-room Hawthorn School of Grant Township, Jewell County, Kan., and survived a School District No. 42 contract challenge for having been secretly married
by a Concordia Justice of the Peace to Melvin H. Switzer on Aug. 2, 1930. Their cover story about attending a Ringling Bros. Circus in nearby Superior, Nebraska, was blown by the prevalent habit of eavesdropping on the rural Kansas telephone party line.
In May of 1934, Margaret and Mel Switzer packed everything they owned in a Ford Model A Roadster and, with a $100 poke, drove to Stockton, Calif., where her cousin, Leon West, helped Melvin to become employed by R. G. Le Tourneau Manufacturing. In the fall her twin brothers, Floyd and Lloyd Johnson, visited after the close of the 1934 Idaho harvest season. Their tales of cheap water and the big crop yields to be found in the Magic Valley lured Margaret and Melvin to follow the twins back to the 1935 Idaho harvest. Twin Falls farmer Frank Brown hired Mel as a general farm hand and subsequently rented the Switzer family his Addison Avenue farm for about 10 years. Of that time, she wrote:

Margaret visited the Twin Falls County Hospital in 1938 to deliver daughter, Mitzi Kay, returned in 1943 to deliver son, John Brent, and visited again in 1945 to deliver her youngest son, Melvin Junior.
Just before Christmas of 1948, Margaret and Mel rented the Pringle place located a mile east of Kimberly. They successfully farmed that land and 80 acres south of Hansen until retiring in 1976 to 403 Washington, Kimberly.
Margaret had been active in the Excelsior club, was awarded a Rotary Foundation Paul Harris Fellow in 1994 and was a major contributor to the Twin Falls Rotary Park. In her later years she enjoyed playing Club 93 quarter slots and bingo games at the Kimberly Senior Citizens Center.
Husband/friend/farmer Melvin passed away in January of 1986 and her siblings, Raymond, Floyd, Lloyd, Gladys and Herbert Johnson preceded her in death.
She is survived by daughter, Mitzi Kay and Ken Marnoch (Simi Valley, Calif.); son, John Brent and May Lin Switzer (Oak Harbor, Wash.); and son, Mel and Camilla Switzer (Sonoma, Calif.); grandchildren Pamela Ann (Marnoch) and Dave Edmiston (Valencia, Calif.), Kenneth Scott and Cindy Marnoch (Canyon Country, Calif.), Eric Douglas and Michelle Marnoch (Simi Valley, Calif.), Margaret Caroline (Switzer) Ty Solomon (Kirkland, Wash.), Martha Meaghan (Switzer) and Doug Hengehold (Sonoma Valley, Calif.), and Brian Timothy and Sue Switzer (Twin Falls, Idaho); great-grandchildren Margaret Edmiston, Heather Edmiston, Malcolm Edmiston, Alec Marnoch, Gillian Marnoch, Emily Hengehold, Ryan James Hengehold and Kolby Dale Solomon.
The family extends gratitude to Melody Gambrel of Willowbrook ALF and special thanks to her staff of wonderful caregivers for helping Margaret make the transition to "assisted independence." We are particularly appreciative of the frequent visits of her friends over the past decade and owe a deep debt of gratitude for the comfortable and fun friendships of Dorothy Roske (Jerome), Diane Wilcox, George "T" and Mary Nauman and E.G. and June Miller (Kimberly).
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 17th, at White Mortuary, 136 Fourth Ave. E. Following the service, a reception/wake is being arranged at the home of Brian Sue Switzer. Hazel Clara Young Barber
Hazel Clara Young Barber, age 85, died on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at Twin Falls Care Center of natural causes.
She was born April 25, 1919, on Mays Creek, in the Sawtooth Valley, the child of Robert Bruce and Clara Belle Palmer Young. Hazel was raised in the Sawtooth Valley at the Champion Creek homestead. She attended school in Hailey and spent some of her childhood tied to a fence post by her baby-sitting older brothers.
Hazel married
Laurel Gordon Barber on Dec. 21, 1945, in Hailey, Idaho. She has lived in Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Renton, Wash., Hailey, Hazelton and Twin Falls. She enjoyed her job as Blaine County clerk of the district court, deputy county recorder and being the treasurer for the Community Baptist Church. She was a member of the Rebekah's Lodge of Hailey, the Community Baptist Church and the Wood River Canal Company. Hazel was the Noble Grand and held other offices of the Rebekah's Lodge.
Hazel truly enjoyed spending time outdoors. She loved to fish, camp, hike, and hunt along with needlework and growing flowers. She enjoyed going for a drive and was always up for a four-wheeling ride. Picnics were her favorite outings. If she was asked if she wanted to go, all she wanted to know was "how long" and "warm or cold." Those were her only two concerns.
Hazel's middle name was "GO." She went on her first motorcycle ride with her son Red at the age of 84 and she was still four-wheeling, her favorite mode of transportation, at the age of 85. Hazel went river rafting on the MacKenzie river at the age of 83. She never met a pretty flower or interesting rock she didn't like.
Survivors include her two sons, Lawrence "Red" (Joyce) Barber with children, Candace and James, of Twin Falls and Randall Gordon (Patricia) Barber with daughter, Codi, of Kimberly; her daughter, Susan (Wilburn Gale) Chipman with daughter, Wendy, of Twin Falls; her stepdaughter, Patricia (Gerard) Baker with children, Trevor and Jonica, of Nampa; her sister, Cora Mariah (Ray) Roessler with children, Paul, Robbin and Linda June, of Gooding; her two brothers, William Wallace (LaVona) Young with children, Tammy and Wally Scott, of Hailey and Robert Clayton (Fern) Young with children, Roger, Brenda, Sherry, Carol, Sharon and David, of Renton, Wash.
Those preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Lawrence and Martin.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at the Community Baptist Church with Pastor Everett Berrey officiating. Interment will follow in the Hailey cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Community Baptist Church, PO Box 1596, Hailey, ID 83333. Arrangements are under the care of Wood River Chapel of Hailey, Idaho.
Evalynn M. Langley
Evalynn M. Langley, 89, of Twin Falls, passed away Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 9, 1915, at Loma, Mont., to Leon W. and Bessie A. Brown.
She graduated from Buhl High School and Twin Falls Beauty College. She married
David Franklin Langley on Oct. 16, 1937, in Twin Falls, Idaho. The couple made their home in Buhl, Idaho. David passed away in 1978.
Evalynn was a member of the Buhl First Christian Church, Senior Citizen Center, where she did volunteer work until moving to an assisted living center. She was a charter member of the Friendly Dozen Club since 1937 and enjoyed the Sunnyside Social Club, plus was an avid pinochle player.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting and working in her flower garden as long as her health allowed her.
She is survived by her three children, Darleen (Loyd) Miller of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Charles (Karen) Langley of Twin Falls and Mary Lynn (Dennis) Culp of Boise; sister-in-law, Betty Brown of Twin Falls; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at Farmer Funeral Chapel, 130 N. Ninth Ave., Buhl, with Art Freund officiating. Should friends desire, contributions can be made to the First Christian Church in Buhl or the Buhl Senior Citizens Center.
Larry Dennis Hudelson Jr.
Larry Dennis Hudelson Jr. beloved son of Larry and Sara Hudelson was stillborn on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center.
Larry is survived by his parents, Larry and Sara; three brothers, Bobbi, Walker and Bradly; grandparents, Terry and (Becky) Hunter of Twin Falls, Bob and Pene Hudelson of Kimberly and Becky Steinocker of Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park."
Jack Martin
Jack Martin left this life on Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, in Boise, Idaho, to join his eternal companion, Lillias, who preceded him in death just two weeks ago.
Jack was born March 1, 1921, in Boise, Idaho, to George and Mary Martin. Jack moved with his family to Hagerman where he resided most of his life. Jack met Lillias Pugmire, the love of his life, in the second grade.
Jack and Lillias celebrated 63 years of marriage this past June.
Jack graduated from Albion State Normal School in 1941 and later from Idaho State University with a degree in education. Jack touched the lives of many students in Hagerman as a coach and teacher for 38 years. One of Jack's greatest joys was reminiscing and recounting the many stories and events associated with those 38 years of coaching. One of his favorite stories was of "The Stall" at Camas High School. Jack and Lillias' favorite pastime was attending as many high school sports activities as they could.
Jack and Lillias were life-long active members of the Hagerman LDS ward and held various callings. They were among the first to serve in the Boise LDS Temple. Jack and Lillias also served a mission in the Atlanta, Georgia, temple.
Another legacy Jack left on the Hagerman Valley were the beautiful homes he enjoyed building or remodeling.
In 2002, Jack moved to Boise to be closer to his family. Jack was especially proud of his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.
Jack is survived by a daughter, Joan (Ed) Crampton, Boise; a son, John Martin, Hagerman; two granddaughters, Christie (Troy) Quirl, Sugar City, and Candice (Dean) Waite, Eagle; a sister-in-law, LouAnn and her husband, Bill McKay, Boise; and three great-grandchildren, Micaela, Abby and Jackson, his third generation namesake.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Lillias; a daughter, Tana Martin; and two brothers, George Martin and Lloyd Martin.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16th, at the Hagerman LDS Chapel. Interment will follow in the Hagerman cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Demaray's Gooding Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Idaho High School Activities Association at 8011 Ustick Road, Boise, ID 83704, or your favorite charity.
Wayne Crane
Wayne Crane, 84, a resident of Belen, N.M., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004.
He was born in Douglas, Kan., Nov. 6, 1920. Wayne grew up in Albuquerque and attended Albuquerque High. He served in World War II in the Air Force, stationed in England and France, from 1942 to 1945.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Jane Crane; four daughters, Peggy Vallejos and husband, Gene, Valeria Worden, Jeanie Hart and husband, Gary, and Lela Brooks; one son, John Crane and wife, Cheryl; one brother, Ben Crane and wife, Nita; along with 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Mr. Crane was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth Crane; sister, Peggy Huckabay; and brother, Frank Crane.
Wayne retired from the Carpenters Union #1094 in Oregon in 1983. He was a carpenter and a farmer who lived in Oregon and Idaho, then moved back to New Mexico where he lived in Belen. His hobby was repairing clocks. Wayne was a Christian who loved the Lord and loved listening to gospel hymns. He was a devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed.
A service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at the French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul, N. E. Friends may visit one hour prior to service Saturday at French Mortuary, 111 University Blvd. N. E., Albuquerque, N.M.
Clara Miller Van Houten
She was born on April 17, 1918, in Zap, N.D., and passed into the arms of God on Dec. 13, 2004, in Twin Falls, Idaho, as the result of multiple myeloma.
Married in Billings, Mont., in 1938 to Esco Van Houten, they moved to the Stanley Basin where they lived in a log cabin on the Yankee Fork River while Van worked as a gold miner and she as a secretary for the company.
After World War II they returned to Twin Falls where Clara eventually became the credit manager of Magic Valley Memorial Hospital and an active member of the Soroptimist Club. She also was an accomplished crafts person and quilt maker. The greatest accomplishment in her eyes however, was in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She taught them many lessons of love, the wonderful ability to see the best in human beings and never speak unkindly of others. Her positive attitude toward life will have its effects on generations to come.
She is survived by her son, Grant Van Houten, a physician in Pendleton Ore.; daughter, Gayle Bieker, a resident of Sun Valley, Idaho; her beloved grandchildren, Jed and Jake Van Houten of the Magic Valley, Paul Bieker of Seattle and Kris Bieker-Brady of Boston Mass., Katherine B. Kuhl of Flensburg, Germany; and her seven great-grandchildren.
We will miss our grandma but will always be thankful for her gifts to us which will live on in our hearts.
