Renee Jane Pike
Burley
Renee Jane Pike, 58, a former Burley resident, passed away in Indio, Calif.
She is survived by one brother, Robert Bingham of Twin Falls; one sister, Darla Ressler of Eagle; two daughters, Debie Harris of Burley and Robin Green of Great Falls, Mont.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lamar Bingham and Faye Ostler.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at Riverside cemetery in Heyburn. Donations in her behalf can be made to the Burley Senior Center by calling 878-8646.
Virginue Patsy Journey Albertson
Virginue Patsy Journey Albertson, age 98, died peacefully on Nov. 4, 2004, in Twin Falls, Idaho, at a retirement home with her family by her side.
Virginue was born in Clinton, Mo., on Feb. 9, 1906, and she was the youngest of six children born to Jerome and Ella Journey. They moved to Gooding, Idaho, in 1909 where she was raised and graduated from Gooding High School in 1924. She attended college at Albion Normal School and was married
to Sharon H. Albertson in Gooding on Dec. 28, 1927. Virginue touched the lives of many children and families in the Magic Valley as a second-grade school teacher for 28 years.
Surviving Virginue is a daughter, Pat (Phil) Kinnison of Twin Falls; and a son, Max (Lorraine) Albertson of Pocatello, Idaho; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Her parents, her husband and five siblings preceded her in death.
Virginue was a member of Chapter BP of PEO and the Twin Falls First Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at the Twin Falls First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Al Fry officiating. All services and arrangements are under the direction of the Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Twin Falls First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund in her name.
Anita Larragan-Davis
Buhl
Anita Larragan-Davis, 84, of Buhl, passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Applegate Assisted Living in Buhl.
Anita Irene Larragan was born March 14, 1920, to Anastacio and Paula (Arrien) Larragan in Mountain Home, Idaho. In 1924 she moved with her family to the Castleford area, where she attended school. Anita had many fond memories of playing basketball for Castleford. Following business school, Anita worked for Bob Erkins at Thousand Springs Trout Farm and later for Idaho Trout Processors. She married
Gene Davis; they later divorced. Anita was a long-time member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She enjoyed dancing, especially at the annual Basque Dances held by the Catholic Church. Anita will always be remembered for her dedication to her faith and as a caring, loving, mother.
She is survived by her son, Mike (Roxanne) Davis of Buhl; two grandsons, Tanner Davis of North Dakota and Tad Davis of Montana; one granddaughter, Tara Davis of Buhl; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Felix, Luis and John Larragan; and an infant sister.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at West End cemetery, Buhl. No visitation is scheduled. Arrangements have been entrusted to Farmer Funeral Chapel in Buhl, Idaho.
Martha Martin
Oakley
Martha Johnson Litson Martin, an 87-year-old resident of Oakley, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at her home.
She was born Nov. 4, 1917, in Paul, Idaho, the daughter of Joseph Hyrum and Serena Gardner Johnson. Martha graduated from Paul High School, attended one semester at the Southern Branch of the University of Idaho in Pocatello, then transferred to Albion State Normal School where she graduated with a teaching degree. In later years, she did postgraduate work receiving her Bachelor of Arts through the Idaho State University.
She married
Wendell Litson on Dec. 27, 1939. He died five months later.
After teaching for two years in Oakley, she married
Lloyd H. Martin in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 22, 1941, and they lived in the Basin. She enjoyed her life there with its beautiful scenery. She and Lloyd were called on a mission to Great Britain in 1950. They had a wonderful experience there and returned in 1952. During a teachers shortage she returned to teach in the Oakley Elementary School and continued there for 27 years. She loved teaching and the children she worked with.
Lloyd sold the ranch and they moved into town in 1975. Lloyd died on Sept. 23, 1975.
Martha retired from teaching in 1979. She has always been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions in the Relief Society, Primary, Mutual and Sunday School organizations in the wards and stake. She loved music and was the organist in the Basin Ward. She was a worker in the Boise Temple for a year. She served a mission in the Jackson, Miss., Mission in 1992 and 1993. Martha had a firm testimony of the gospel and never once doubted its truth. She was also a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Martha loved working in the garden and always tried to keep her surroundings beautiful. Even though retired, she managed to stay involved as she did extraction work, read and knitted slippers, booties and hats for gifts for friends and for the humanitarian project. As she got much older, she had to curtail her activities due to ill health.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents; and two brothers, Hyrum G. Johnson of Ogden, Utah, and Mark G. Johnson of Rupert.
She is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth (LaGrande) Robertson of Shasta Lake, Calif., and Nellie (Wilbur) Trout of Twin Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at the Oakley Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 301 N. Center Ave., where friends and family may call from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Officiating will be Bishop Eric C. Bedke. Burial will be in Basin cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley.
Lovell Taylor
Rexburg
Leah Lovell Taylor, 63, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at her home at her home from complications of multiple system atrophy.
She was born Feb. 13, 1941, in Helena, Mont., to Otis Harland and Julia Kathryn Grigg Williams. She attended high school in Ontario, Ore., and studied horticulture at Brigham Young University in Provo.
She married
Charles Lynn Taylor on Dec. 15, 1960, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. She was a loving and gifted homemaker. In later years, she was employed as a receptionist and office manager at Goode Motors in Burley, Idaho. She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed writing poetry.
Lovell was a gifted teacher and seldom missed BYU Education Week. She served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and especially cherished serving as Relief Society president in Yakima, Wash. She delighted in the achievements of her children and grandchildren and was a devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; children, Garth (Shauna) Taylor of Idaho Falls, Crystal Taylor of Twin Falls, Alyssa (Mac) Ratchford of Casper, Wyo., and Matthew (Rebecca) Taylor of Rexburg; her mother, Kathryn Williams of Burley; siblings, Mark (Kate) Williams of Burley, June (Bruce) Nelson of Logan, Utah, Garth (Sam) Williams of Burley, Pam (Joey) Carlson of Kearnie, Neb., Nathan (Donna) Williams of Salt Lake City, Jared (Janet) Williams of Grand Junction, Colo.; and 14 grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at the Archer-Sunnydell LDS Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Flamm Funeral in Rexburg and from 11:30 to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be in the Sutton cemetery.
Jane W. Herbert
Burley
Jane Weddle Herbert, an 80-year-old resident of Burley, died suddenly, Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley.
Jane was born April 13, 1924, at Asheville, N.C. She was the daughter of Algar C. and Margaret Powell Weddle. She was the oldest of three children. She remained very close with her two sisters regardless of the distance. She graduated from high school in 1941, in Asheville. She continued her education and became a lab technician. She then showed her independent nature and her love of adventure by setting out to New York City, much to the dismay of her mother.
Edmond Benton Herbert was a pilot in World War II, naming his plane the Calamity Jane in honor of his soon to be wife. She married
Ed on June 9, 1948.
He was her best friend and soul mate. He preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 2001, three years to the day prior to Jane.
Jane was a member of PEO, Hospital Volunteers, Double-4 Bride Club as well as many other clubs through the years. She started the Welcome Service in the Burley area in 1951 and had many different partners. She loved Festival of Trees where she worked annually. She attended the Burley First Presbyterian Church.
Jane loved life, friends and family. She loved largely and that love was returned by all who knew her. Jane was a cook, one of the best! You would never leave her house hungry. She looked forward to social events regardless of the reason. Bridge was a favorite pastime as well as spending many hours with a very close network of friends, some boasting more than 50 years together. She enjoyed spending time at the cabin the family built in Ketchum.
She and Ed owned and operated an 80-acre farm east of Burley, where they worked side-by-side. They also worked together for many years at Amoco Oil in Burley.
Jane was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She took great interest in those that she loved and that love was returned by all who knew her. She took great interest in the accomplishments of her loved ones and never missed a chance to tell anyone who would listen to where they were or what they were doing. She always looked forward to time spent with her family.
Her presence will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her two sons, Jim Herbert (Missy Firth) of Hagerman, Idaho, and Doug (Colleen) Herbert of Burley; one daughter, LeAnne (Ken) Lebsack of Burley; two sisters, Peggy Nichols of Asheville, N.C., and Nancy (Hatten) Hodges of Denver, Colo.; her grandchildren, Brad (Misty) Herbert of Jackson, Wyo., Kristi (Shane) McKinnon of Elko, Nev., Scott Carraway and Mark Lebsack both of Boise, Idaho and Jennifer (Cody) Matthews of Rigby, Idaho; a great-grandson, Devin Albright of Jackson, Wyo.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Steve Herbert; and a brother-in-law, Paul Nichols.
A service celebrating Jane's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at the Burley First Presbyterian Church, 2100 Burton Ave., with the Rev. Herb C. Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in Declo cemetery. Friends and family may call from 10 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley.
Donald Patrick 'Doc' Daily
Twin Falls
Donald Patrick "Doc" Daily, 73, of Twin Falls, Idaho, formerly of Dunlap, Ill., died at 9:10 p.m. Friday, Nov, 19, 2004, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Born in Peoria, Ill., on Oct. 14, 1931, to Lawrence and Francis (Heinz) Daily. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by son, Donald Patrick II of Twin Falls; four grandchildren, Joshua Waggoner of Peoria Heights, Ill., Zachary Waggoner of Belcamp, Md., Morgan Schuttle of Glasford, Ill., and Mason Daily of Twin Falls.
After graduating in 1950 from Dulap High School he served in the Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1953. He then lived and worked in Dulap until 1999, moving to Twin Falls, living here until his death.
A member of the American Legion, he loved shuffleboard, the Green Bay Packers and his family, most of all his grandchildren.
Doc's huge heart and love for family and friends will be missed by all.
A service will be announced at a later date. Cremation took place under the direction of Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home.
Lawrence (Larry) V. Martin
Lawrence (Larry) V. Martin, age 95, died Nov. 25, 2004, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 20, 1909, in Deihlstat, Mo., to J.C. and Annie (Buckley) Martin. The family settled in Eden, Idaho, where he attended school and met Lucille Mitchell. They were married
in Jerome on March 8, 1929. Larry and Lucille were blessed with two sons, Kenneth and Lonnie. Larry farmed in the Eden area until 1969, when they moved to Jerome, where he continued farming until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille (June 11, 1997); and his son, Kenneth (March 31, 1998).
For many years he was an avid hunter and fisherman and truly enjoyed the outdoors. He was active in his community, serving many years on the Eden school board and participated in the formation of the Valley School District. He was a member of the Jerome County Selective Service Board and received a certificate of appreciation from President Harry S. Truman. Larry also served on the Jerome County Fair Board for several years. Larry and Lucille were active members of the "Good Sam Club" and enjoyed many camp-outs and functions with their friends.
Following his retirement he enjoyed league bowling where he spent many happy days and made many new friends, including Audrey Lipe. On Sept. 11, 1998, Larry married
Audrey Lipe in Elko, Nev., and moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, where they have resided since.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey of Twin Falls; son, Lonnie (Judy Tortel) of Jerome; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Lois Peterson of Shoshone; and stepson, Jack Lipe of Denver, Colo.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Sunset Memorial cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Monday at Parke's Funeral Home.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers who have helped him through these final days.
Agnes May Schuch
Rupert
Agnes May Schuch, 72, of Rupert, beloved mother, sister, grandmother and dear friend passed away peacefully Friday evening, Dec. 3, 2004, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Boise due to heart complications.
Agnes was born Sept. 3, 1932, in Spokane, Wash., to Albert and Etha Winkler Durheim. Her early years she spent growing up around Spokane and Mead where she graduated from Mead High school in 1950. She later married
Cletus Francis Schuch on Sept. 2, 1956, in Spokane later moving to the Rupert area to start and raise their family. She worked in the home raising her children and then went to work at Simplot Foods where she retired in 1995. Agnes learned at an early age the lessons and values of hard work that she held on to throughout her whole life.
Agnes enjoyed doing many things, such as gardening, flowers, her yard. She enjoyed time visiting with her friends and neighbors and playing pinochle with her special friends. Most of all, she loved being with her granddaughter Krystal and grandson Michael.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane Schuch and Joanne Scott; two sons, Jerry (Caroline) Schuch and Brian Schuch; two grandchildren, Krystal Scott and Michael Schuch; two brothers, Leonard (Alice) Durheim of Mead, Wash., and Bill (Lois) Durheim of Chattaroy, Wash.; four sisters, Etha Cycowski of Anchorage, Alaska, Betty Nash Lynwood, Washington, Linda McCutchen of North Carolina and Florence Jacobs Belvue of Washington.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at the Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel with Pastor Keith Wise officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, and one hour prior to the services at the Mortuary with interment to follow services in the Rupert cemetery.
