James Ford Orton, 74, passed away, Monday, April 23, 2007 in Sandpoint, Idaho after a long illness.
Private family services have been held.
Jim was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the son of Burton and Georgia (Smith) Orton on December 16, 1932.
He was educated in Bridgeport and worked as a car service manager for Chevrolet.
Later he was self employed in a successful home improvement business for many years.
Jim married Alice Mach and they had two children Catherine and Michael.
Mr. Orton served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
In 1993 Jim married Annette Lewis in California and the couple moved to Hope, Idaho and three years later to Sandpoint.
He enjoyed boating on Lake Pend Oreille and in Montana.
Jim was an excellent hunter and fisherman in his earlier years in Connecticut and Canada.
Most of his fishing was on Long Island Sound on the East Coast.
While in Idaho, Jim enjoyed many car trips including Banff and Lake Louise.
He also took trips to Florida, New England, California and Alaska.
He is survived by his wife, Annette Orton of Sandpoint, ID; daughter, Cathy (Ken) Horton of Sagle, ID; son, Michael (Rita) Orton of Yucaipa, CA; three grandsons and two granddaughters; brother, Clinton Orton of Florida; three step-children and three step-granddaughters.

Donna Maurine Howell, 90, passed away on April 15, 2007 at her home in Hope, Idaho.
Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Punchbowl National Cemetery, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Lyle Dean Hosterman, 97, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2007 in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Memorial services will be held at a later date with interment in the Polson Cemetery.
Lyle was born on August 25, 1909 in Cormorant, Minnesota to Henry and Pearl Hosterman.
He grew up in Pelican Rapids, MN.
Lyle became a lineman and went to work for Otter Tail Power Company in North Dakota.
In 1928 he moved to Hot Springs, Montana with the Rural Electric Association.
They brought power to the Bitterroot Valley and Western Montana.
Lyle married Blanch Hollingsworth on December 11, 1938 in Asotin, WA.
They made their home in Seattle while Lyle worked in the ship yards during World War II.
They then moved to Kalispell to raise their family and Lyle worked at the Hungry Horse Dam.
In his later years Lyle became a snowbird, summering in Hot Springs, and wintering in Arizona.
In 2003 Lyle moved to Sandpoint to be closer to family.
Lyle was an inventor of sorts, a jack of all trades, and a hard worker.
He was honored as one of the oldest members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union and in 2005 he received his 75 year pin. He also belonged to the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Old Time Fiddlers.
He loved music, played several string instruments and the harmonica.
He also enjoyed gardening, raising fruit trees, panning for gold, and fishing.
He is survived by son, Larry (Sachiko) Hosterman of Moyie Springs, ID; daughter, Mary Jo (Larry) Knutson of Priest River, ID; four grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Lloyd and Penn, sister Leone, and 2 great grandchildren Walter VanHouten, and Isaac Branscome.

Gloriane Ramona “Ann” Hamann, 77, passed away, Wednesday, September 13, 2006 in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 16, 2006 at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint.
Pastor Brian Atmore of the Creston Baptist Church and Pastor Jim Osman of the Kootenai Community Church will officiate.
Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery.
Ann was born in Wood River, Nebraska on October 1, 1928 to Edwin and Inez Bloom.
The family moved to Kootenai, Idaho in 1942, and Ann later graduated from Sandpoint High School.
Ann married Donald Hamann on December 28, 1946 in Libby, MT.
The couple raised their family in Newport, WA, where Ann worked at the Newport Hospital.
After her family was raised Ann went to school and became a registered nurse in 1972.
She went to work at Bonner General Hospital and lived in Kootenai.
She enjoyed painting, jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, and working in her flower beds.
She also enjoyed feeding and watching the squirrels and birds.
Her favorite flower was a Tropicana rose.
She is survived by her four sons, Mike (Sun) Hamann of Tacoma, WA, Pat Hamann of Sandpoint, ID, Tim (Jeannie) Hamann of Benicia, CA and Mick (Karen) Hall of Sandpoint, ID; a daughter, Cyndie Osman of Kootenai, ID; four brothers, Richard (Maridean) Bloom of Kootenai, ID, Ralph Bloom of Sandpoint, ID, Colin (Bonnie) Bloom of Cheney, WA and Terry (Carmen) Bloom of Kootenai, ID; three sisters, Janice (Jim) Wilson of Osburn, ID, Sandra (Keith) Ellingson of Spokane Valley, WA and Tami Bloom of Sandpoint, ID; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and special friend and care giver Denny Guthrie.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Edwin Bloom, Jr.
Barbara Jean Remmers, 85, a long-time resident of Sandpoint, Idaho, passed away, Tuesday, October 10, 2006 in Sandpoint.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 14, 2006 at the First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint with Pastor Dave Olson officiating.
Barbara was born in Findlay, Ohio, on July 21, 1921 to Merle W. and Gladys V. (Simon) Fenimore.
She married W.E. "Bill" Remmers on May 27, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri.
During World War II she sold War Bonds and worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" in an aircraft factory in Memphis, Tennessee.
The family moved to Sandpoint in 1959 and Barb began working as a secretary for the Chamber of Commerce, retiring after 25 years of dedicated service in 1985.
She became an Avon Rep in 1987, retiring at the age of 83 in 2004.
She was a long time member of the Sandpoint Lady Elks as well as a member of Beta Sigma Phi and the First Lutheran Church.
Barbara was an avid reader, she loved to do crossword puzzles, and was a great cook.
She also enjoyed her Rose Garden, a passion passed on from her father.
Barbara will be truly and deeply missed by her loving husband of 67 years, Bill Remmers of Sandpoint, ID; three children, Sherry (Les) Gropp of Boise, ID, Holly (Dick) Woods of Walton, OR; son, Steven ³Rex² (Sheri) Remmers Sandpoint, ID
She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Kathleen Sue, and her brother Howard Fenimore.

Allan Willard Burleson, 94, passed away, Wednesday, November 22, 2006 in Sandpoint, ID.
Allan was born on March 11, 1912 in Jamestown, North Dakota.
He was the fourth son of Rev. Edward Welles Burleson, an Episcopal priest, and Alice Wilcox Burleson.
The family moved in 1912 to Sandpoint, Idaho.
His father was reassigned in 1919 to Palouse, Washington.
Allan attended school there, graduating from Palouse High School.
He attended Washington State College (now WSU), then Hobart College NY, from which he graduated in 1934.
His father had been wounded in a gun accident a few years earlier and was hospitalized in Spokane, requiring that Allan interrupt his schooling to tend to his father¹s ranch north of Sandpoint. Allan later did graduate studies at Columbia University, earning an M.A. in English.
He then taught English at Hobart College until he was drafted during Word War II.
In the Army, Allan trained in Wisconsin and then was assigned to an infantry division in Patton¹s Third Army.
He saw action in the Battle of the Bulge and later earned a Bronze Star for heroic action when his unit was preparing to cross a major river near the German border.
In the postwar years, Allan taught English and Algebra at Sandpoint High School while also looking after his elderly father and dependent elder brother. After they had passed on, Allan devoted much time to the history of eastern Washington and northern Idaho, serving as secretary of the Eastern Washington Historical Society for many years.
He also tended to the interests of aged friends in northern Idaho and Spokane and helped them find their genealogical roots until his own advancing age slowed him down.
Allan was also a 70 year member of The Masonic Order. Ark Lodge #33 F & AM. Geneva, New York.
Living in his final years at the Life Care Center of Sandpoint, Allan found that some residents there were former students of his.
Allan is survived by a niece, several nephews and numerous cousins around the United States, most of whom fondly recall his warmth and sharp wit and are indebted to him for his efforts over the years to unearth and preserve family history.

James Wesley “Jim” Nelson, 79, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2006 in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, May 13, 2006 at the First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint with Pastor Dennis Hanson and Pastor Dave Olson officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Lakeview Cemetery

Jim was born March 20, 1927 in Sandpoint to A.R. “Steve” and Dottie G. Nelson.
He attended Sandpoint High School, graduating in 1945.
He also attended Farragut College, Spokane Trade School and the University of Idaho.
Jim entered the United States Navy the day after he graduated from high school, and served for two years at the end of World War II, on the USS Glynn and The USS Saratoga.
Jim married Alice Mary Stockman on September 12, 1948 in Sprague, Wa.
He worked as a driver/salesman for Continental Baking Company for over 20 years.
He finished his career as owner/broker of Kaniksu Reality.
Jim was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir for over 50 years.
He was a member of the Sandpoint Rotary Club, and a life member of the Sandpoint Elks Lodge and Golf Club.
He was an Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster for over 10 years.
Jim’s passion was gardening and he was known for supplying his friends with produce.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice M. Nelson of Sandpoint, ID; two sons, Mark (Sonoe) Nelson of Yokasuka, Japan and Jon (Paula) Nelson of Clarksville, TN; a daughter, Leslie (Bob) Springsteen of Saratoga, WY; five grandchildren, Marshall, Erika, and Ashley Nelson, Wyatt and Gabriel Springsteen; a niece, Penny Armstrong, several nephews, and sister-in-law Mary V. Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Bob and Jack Nelson.
Memorial donations may be made in Jim’s name to the First Lutheran Church, 526 S. Olive, Sandpoint, ID 83864.
