A Celebration of Life memorial will be held in Bud Taylor's honor at the Orofino VFW Hall on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 12, noon.

Elaine Gleason Rinehart, 71, Orofino
Orofino native Elaine Rinehart passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2012.
Elaine was born in Orofino April 25, 1941, to Charles H. and Stila Harlan Gleason. She spent her childhood in Orofino and went to schools there.
As an adult she lived in several places around the U.S., including Charleston, S.C., and Denver, two places which she particularly enjoyed. Her grandfather, John P. (Jack) Harlan, was a well-noted historian and local authority on Lewis and Clark; she inherited her love of history from him. She also inherited her memory and recollections of family history from her mother and her well-noted temper from her father. She shared with her family many stories and fond childhood memories of the times she spent with her "grandpa" and her much loved "Daddy." She loved interior design and always had a new home improvement project in mind.
Elaine is survived by her sister, Carolyn Mattson; two daughters, Jo Frederiksen, The Woodlands, TX, and Michele Rinehart (Tommy Nash), Fort Lee, NJ; three grandchildren, Clinton Garrett, Portsmouth, NH, Gavin and Chloe Nash, Fort Lee, NJ; and six nephews and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Stila; a sister, Harla Matson; and niece Susan (Sue) Mattson Brown.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Clearwater Humane Society, P.O. Box 2063, Orofino, ID 83544, or a charity of choice.
At her request, no services will be held. A remembrance, in accordance with her wishes, will be held at the convenience of the family.
Ralph Bud Taylor, 72, Orofino
Ralph Bud Taylor, 72, Orofino passed away at his home Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012.

Elizabeth McKinney, 93, formerly of Weippe
Elizabeth was born Dec. 23, 1918, to Jewell Owen and Mary Mawlam Battles as the second of six siblings, all of whom preceded her in death with the exception of one sister, Margaret Berniece Battles who lives currently in Lewiston. She is also survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Rippleman; one granddaughter, Veronica J Edgerly; and one grandson, John B. Rippleman; as well as many close relatives.
In the summer of 1937 she married
the only love of her life, John A McKinney, in Nezperce. The couple lived in Weippe and in 1939 she gave birth to her only child, Elizabeth Ann.
Then in 1941, just before World War II, John was hired by the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) in the city of Baltimore and relocated his new family there. After America was drawn into the war, Elizabeth served her country as a "Rosie the Riveter" and was quickly promoted to quality inspector of the B-17 and B-29 bomber planes. When John was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1943 she returned, with her daughter, to Weippe, to await John's discharge from the Navy. Upon discharge, the family returned to Baltimore, where John's position was reinstated in the Social Security Administration.
In 1950, John was transferred to Lewiston as a claims reviewer with the SSA. Elizabeth then focused on homemaking and raising their daughter.
The tragic death of John in 1954 forced her into the job market, where she worked as a photography assistant with Fran Rader Studios, as well as a bookkeeper at Reintjes Beverage Distributors. She returned to her family mill and ranch in Weippe around 1970 and worked as bookkeeper until 2000, when a stroke ended her ability to work and she was brought back to live with her daughter in Lewiston. In 2003, she developed Alzheimer's symptoms and was no longer safe without 24-hour care. She then became a resident of Life Care in Lewiston until her death at 5:30 a.m. Oct. 13, 2012. She will be missed.
There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Lewiston Orchards at the Garden of Communion section of Lewis Clark cemetery near Mountain View Funeral Home.
Robert Michael Una, 64, Orofino
Robert Michael Una passed away peacefully Oct. 7, 2012, from cancer with family at his side.
He was born to Bob and Martha Una on Nov. 4, 1947. He had a twin brother, Patrick Thomas Una, who passed away in 1993; and a sister, GerryAnn and husband Buck Shapansky of Sequim, WA. He graduated from Orofino High School in 1967. He married
Julie Sands in 1967 and they had two children, Kerry Marie Una of Salem, OR, and son, Robert Jarrett Una of Phuket, Thailand. They later divorced.
Robert joined the Spokane Labor Union and worked with his grandfather Tom Kiiskila on dams, roads and bridges. His favorite one to work on was Dent Bridge. He worked in Washington, Oregon and Idaho, and then went to Alaska. He was in the union, worked on the Alaska pipeline, Valdez oil spill, tank farm, Prudhoe Bay in Alaska, and on roads. While working at Swan Lake Dam near Ketchikan, AK, he met his wife, Adeline. They were married
in 1982. They lived and worked in Alaska until they retired and moved to Asheville, NC, where they spent their winters. They spent their summers in Orofino. He loved to travel, calling Lewiston his home for the past 14 years. He loved his getaway home in Orofino, where he could visit with his friends and reminisce. He loved the hills and mountains, fishing and hunting with his friend Steve Bonoparte.
A diamond in the rough, he had a heart of gold, helping anyone who was in need, never turning anyone away. He leaves many relatives, friends, his children and wife of 30 years; his extended family; stepson, Jack and wife, Kathy Anglin; three sons, Kenny, Joey and Drew of Anchorage, AK; stepdaughter, Teresa and husband Robbie Sullivan of Anchor Point, AK; three daughters, and two granddaughters, Mariah and husband, Jason Marvel of Anchorage, Corina and husband Steven Eckeman and daughter Kora, all of Asotin, WA, and Jessica and daughter, Sadie Kerr of Boise.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of his life will take place at a later date with friends and family.
Irene Johnson, 94, born on Cream Ridge
Irene Johnson was born March 23, 1918, on Cream Ridge near Southwick, and passed away at the Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center Oct. 7, 2012.
Irene was predeceased by her parents, Harvey and Tacie Southwick; her husband, Harry E. Johnson; and her eldest son, Richard E. Johnson. She is survived by her youngest son, Dale W. Johnson of Burnaby, B.C.; her daughter-in-law, C. Kay Johnson of Lewiston; three grandchildren, Aric, Kayd and Tacie; seven great-grandchildren; a large extended family and many friends.
Irene lived in Lewiston for over 70 years and was a member of First Baptist Church since her marriage there in 1941. In addition to the church, she was an active participant in the Happy Campers Club and the Priscilla Whitman Chapter of the Mother's Club. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her outgoing personality, her warm hospitality, her wonderful smile and sense of humor, and her enjoyment in playing pinochle.
A memorial service celebrating Irene's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lewiston First Baptist Church, Eighth Ave. and Eighth St. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Lewiston First Baptist Church.
Kenneth Carol Lemmon, 81, Orofino
On Oct. 1, 2012, Kenneth Carol Lemmon, best friend and dearest love of Gerri, quietly slipped away at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino. He was a man of strength and character and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Kenneth was born to Clyde and Ethel (Brotnov) Lemmon on March 9, 1931 in Brawley, CA. He started school at the old Coeur d'Alene mille site on Upper Fords Creek Rd., and then attended Pierce Elementary School until midway through eighth grade. He graduated from the eighth grade at Vancouver, WA, after his father found work in the shipyards as a welder during World War II. The family then returned to Clarkston, WA his freshman year and he worked summers with his mother packing fruit in Wawawi. They moved back to Pierce his sophomore year and he graduated from Pierce High School in 1949.
While still in school, Kenneth worked for Camas Prairie Railroad as a gandy dancer and later as a spiker for Potlatch Corporation, nailing down rails. After finishing high school, he went to work at Hailey Pole Company.
He joined the Army in January of 1951 serving with the 94th A.A.A. "Hell on Wheels", achieving the rank of sergeant. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged in January 1954 and upon his return, he again worked for Hailey Pole.
Kenneth and Geraldine Alice Roby were married
on Oct. 15, 1955 at the Orofino Methodist Church and they made their home in Pierce. The family grew to include daughters, Katrina and Connie. At this time he was a pole truck driver and also drove chip truck. The family made their way to White Sulphur Springs, MT, where he found work driving logging truck and it was there that son, Kurt was born.
In 1962, he started driving concrete truck for Conco Ready Mix during construction on Jaype Mill near Pierce, eventually becoming batch plant operator and superintendent for Columbia Sand and Gravel and Central Pre-Mix. His portable plant took him many places including a pier on Swan Island, near Portland, OR, a missile house in Kent, WA, and assorted canals and bridges all over the west. He was involved in construction of Little Goose Dam in Washington, Milner Dam in southern Idaho, Southway Bridge in Lewiston/Clarkston and the concrete runway construction at Nellis Air Base in Las Vegas, NV and Malstrom Air Base in Montana.
His work was a very important part of his life and he provided a comfortable one for his family. He retired in 1993 and was able to spend time camping, gardening, RVing, working in his shop and reading. He provided loving care to his aging parents and to his wife as she recovered from multiple surgeries. It brought Kenneth great joy to be reunited with his "49er" Forester family and he enjoyed monthly gatherings with them.
He was a member of the Washington-Idaho Operating Engineers, a past Noble Grand of the International Order of Odd Fellows and a proud and loyal supporter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Ethel and his brother, Gayle Rand.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine, and his children, Kathy Steinbruecker and husband, Tim Norton, Connie Robison and husband, Mike, Kurt Lemmon and wife, Lani. He is also survived by grandsons, Kane Steinbruecker (Nicki) and Cody Steinbruecker (Ashley).
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors and staff of Clearwater Valley Hospital, who provided such considerate and compassionate care of Kenneth while he was a patient there.

Ben S. Aitken, 77, formerly of Weippe
I've traveled many places, forded a thousand rippling streams.
Crossed the open prairie, seen where men had lost their dreams.
Paused on the mountain, heard the wind blow thru the pine.
Watched herds grazing, on grass so tender and fine.
Rode ridges and canyons deep, where men of old have trod.
Felt the early morning sun, the rim rocks warmed by God.

Local services for Alois 'Al' Kaufmann, 87 of Orofino who passed on Wed., Aug. 22, 2012 at his home will be Saturday, Oct. 6.
A Rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6. at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Orofino, with Father Sipho Mathabela officiating.
Ben Stewart Aitken, 77, formerly of Weippe
Ben Stewart Aitken, 77, of Nampa and formerly of Weippe, passed away Wednesday Sept. 26, 2012 at home.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Riggins Community Church, 1102 S. Main, Riggins.

Ron Wilson, 51, attended school in Pierce
Ron G. Wilson, 51, Kooskia passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Syringa General Hospital in Grangeville.
Ron was born Dec. 21, 1960 at Lewiston, a son of Bernard and Darlene Stratton Wilson. He attended schools in Pierce and Kooskia graduating from Clearwater High School in 1979. He entered the US Army and served until 1984. Following his discharge, he lived in Texas working as a delivery man for a florist and later worked as a machinist building prostheses. He moved to Kooskia in 2010.
He enjoyed building model cars and trucks and loved hunting, fishing, camping and spending time in the outdoors.
He is survived by his mother, Darlene Rich of Kooskia; his brother, Scott and Leona Wilson of Kooskia; brother-in-law, Monte Massey of Kooskia; his nieces, Cally Massey and Brandy Massey and Dakota; his grandmother, Virginia Stratton of Lewiston; his aunt Sheryl Literal of Asotin, WA; his cousins, Cam and Rory Wallace and Tammy Stratton. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard; his sister, Sue Massey; his grandfather, Lonnie Stratton; his grandparents George and Jules Wilson; and uncles, Doug Stratton and Larry Stratton.
At his request, there will be no services. Cremation is under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home, Grangeville.
