Wanda June Keeney Grim Stephens Stevic, 87, Orofino
Wanda J. Keeney passed Dec. 6, 2011 at Brookside Landing in Orofino. She was born Dec. 7, 1923 to Alonzo and Clara Keeney in Wahpeton, ND. She graduated from Fargo High School, Fargo, ND on Jan. 10, 1942. Wanda then graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder CO. After 10 years of service she retired from the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center in Denver, CO. She stayed and worked in Denver as an office manager for a certified public accountant for 20 years.
She was a Baptist for many years and then upon her remarriage to Marion Stephens became an Episcopalian. She was a devout member of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Midland, TX.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Alonzo and Clara Keeney of Fargo, ND; her first husband, David Grim; daughter, Shelly Grim of Denver, CO; sister, Leora Scheid of Dent, MN.; brother, Harold Keeney of Sacramento, CA; second husband, Marion D. Stephens and third husband, William Stevic of Odessa, TX.
Wanda is survived by her son, Steven and wife, Chris Grim of Orofino; granddaughter, Sheri and husband, Jim Kondo of Dallas, TX ; three great-grandchildren; Austin, Gavin and Makalin Kondo of Dallas, TX; step-daughter, Virginia Stephens and husband, Kirk Lansdale of Denver, CO.

Murray Don Anderson, 83, Orofino
Murray Don Anderson passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011 at his home after a lengthy struggle following surgery.
He was born July 20, 1928 to Oliver and Alma Anderson at Grand Marais, MN.
After spending his youth attending school and fishing, not necessarily in that order, in 1949 he joined the U.S. Air Force, served in Okinawa and was honorably discharged in 1952.
On Sept. 6, 1958, he married
the love his life, Lindyce Nivala Anderson. They lived in Grand Marais until moving to Orofino in 1970. In 1972, they started A & B Electric, Inc. and in 1984 they sold the retail business, but he continued working in the commercial refrigeration and heating and a/c field until his retirement in 1990.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He spent many hours at the river with his four-legged friend, Sassie.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years; son, Daniel; daughter-in-law, Carol; and grandson, Eric, all of Orofino; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his sibling: Guyal, Jim, Joyce, Doris, Ione, Judy and Evelyn Claire.
A celebration of his life will be held on Dec. 4 from 1-4 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), 330 Michigan Ave. in Orofino. Burial will be at a later date in Grand Marais, MN.

Wayne Isaac Shriver, 86, Orofino
Wayne Isaac Shriver passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012. He was born in Orofino to Ralph and Edith Shriver in 1925, the youngest of four sons.
Wayne graduated from Orofino High School in 1943. He spent the summers of 1942 and 1943 working for the Forest Service on lookouts in the Clearwater National Forest. He served in the Merchant Marines in World War II. After the war, he worked for the U.S. Post Office in Orofino and was postmaster for two years. His remaining working years were spent as an electrical contractor in the Orofino area.
He served on the Orofino City Council and as mayor. He also belonged to the Rotary Club of Orofino and was an early member of Orofino Celebrations, Inc. (OCI). He loved and was loved by many.
Wayne married
Corrie Calland in March 1947. He is survived by his wife, Corrie at their home; son, Ron and wife, Leslie Shriver of Orofino; daughter, Debbie Heebink of Spokane, WA; son, Ken of Big Lake, AK; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Stan, Morris and Neil.
Services will be at 1 p.m Saturday, Jan. 28, . at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel, 939 Michigan Ave. in Orofino.

Norma K. Hedrick, 87, Orofino
Norma Kent Hedrick, a longtime resident of Orofino passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at the age of 87. She was born on Feb. 2, 1924 in Ashton, ID to Norman and Leona Kent. She married
Robert Thomas Hedrick on March 31, 1941. After working construction in numerous western states and farming in southeastern Idaho, Bob and Norma settle in Orofino in 1965. Norma worked at the Konkolville Motel for 27 years before retiring in 2001.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 1991 and son, Donald, in 1988. She is survived by son, Keith Hedrick and wife, Renee, of Orofino; son, Dennis Hedrick, and wife, Janet, of Brush Prairie, WA; five grandchildren including, Jeremy Hedrick and Joni Hedrick of Orofino and David Hedrick of Peoria, IL; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She enjoyed her many friends and loved being around her family. But the real highlight for her was time spent with her grandkids, Jeremy and Joni. Her eyes would light up as if she was a young girl at the mere mention of their names. She also loved to watch all kinds of sports, but one that she really enjoyed was Nascar. She knew most of the drivers, their records and had one favorite driver that you better not complain about.
A visitation will be held at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel and Crematory in Orofino from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, prior to services. Funeral services will be held on 2 p.m. that day at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Burial will follow at Riverside cemetery, Orofino.

Naomi Zella Johnson, 89, formerly of Headquarters
Naomi Zella Johnson Willis Ward, 89, of Lewiston, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012 at Kindred Care and Rehabilitation Center in Lewiston, of causes related to acute leukemia.
Naomi was born May 26, 1922, to Jacob and Martha Hatchett Willis in Clarksville, AR. The family moved to Oregon when she was 14 years old. After graduating from high school, she attended beauty school and became a licensed beautician. During World War II, she worked for Boeing Corp. in Seattle, WA helping in the assembly of B-17 bombers.
She married
J.D. Ward Dec. 9, 1944, and they moved to Headquarters, following the war. She continued to style women's hair as well as working in the Potlatch cookhouse in Headquarters. She and J.D. moved to Lewiston in 1971 due to his health issues. Seven years after J.D.'s death, she married
Mervin Johnson, who preceded her in death.
Naomi was a part of the community of mothers who helped raise the kids of Headquarters. She trusted in God and prayed for her kids and many others continually. She was a member of the House of Faith, formerly Faith Tabernacle Church. She loved fishing for steelhead with Mervin, family and friends on the Snake and Clearwater rivers. Mom is probably best known for being an encourager to those she encountered in life. She had many fond memories of her times visiting with her special friends at Wedgewood Terrace prior to moving to Kindred Care and Rehab.
She is survived by her brother, Porter Willis of Ontario, OR.; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Beth Ward of Russellville, AR; daughter Sue Moser of Lewiston; three grandchildren, Brian Pearson, Melody Ward and Robin Trafford (Ward); five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Jimmy; six brothers, Velmey, Henry, Charley, Harvey, Austin and M.F. (Bill) Willis; three sisters, Robie, Marie and Ruth (Evans); and two grandsons, Steve and James Pearson.
A memorial service will be conducted to celebrate her home-going at 1 p.m. Jan. 28 at the House of Faith Church, 2502 16th Ave., Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to LOV-Life of Victory television station.

Robert Earl Thomason, Sr., 78, Orofino, passed away at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino Monday, Jan. 16, 2012.

Alyce Ann Kessler, 72, Orofino, passed away at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston, WA, on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012.

Robert 'Bob' Henry Kottkey, 70, formerly of Orofino
Robert 'Bob' Henry Kottkey, 70, of Wallace passed away Dec. 30, 2011 at Kootenai Medical Center of Coeur d' Alene. Bob was born April 22, 1941 in Wallace. Bob was the son of Henry and Muriel (Jenkins) Kottkey.
Bob attended and graduated from the Wallace High School of Wallace in 1959. He then went on to attend the University of Idaho where he earned a degree in forestry. Bob became a Forester, making him the third generation in his family to enter the forestry field. Bob worked in California and Orofino before returning to Wallace where he continued his forestry career.
Bob was a member of the Osburn Lions Club, the Shoshone County Sportsmen's Association, and the American Society of Foresters. He loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, picking huckleberries and gardening. Bob also loved to spend time with his family, especially his nephews.
Bob is survived by his brother Steve and his wife Diana Kottkey of Clarkston, WA; and three nephews Robert Kottkey and his significant other, Barbara, Kirk and his wife, Monica Kottkey of Lewiston and Kevin and his wife, Kristy ,of Forest Grove, OR; and numerous cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and several aunts and uncles.
Cremation was held and memorial services will be held on Thursday Jan. 12th, at 11 a.m. at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel of Kellogg with Rev. Ken Bartle officiating. There will be a reception and a gathering of family and friends at the Broken Wheel Restaurant of Kellogg following services.

Adella Rose Christensen, 85, Orofino
Adella Rose Christensen passed away on Dec. 31, 2011 at the family home in Orofino after a lengthy battle with chronic leukemia.
Della was born at Southwick to Glen and Alma Betts on July 7, 1926. She attended school in Southwick and graduated in 1943. She married
Donald Christensen that same year.
Don and Della lived at logging camps up the North Fork of the Clearwater River and at Finke Logging Camp by Pierce before moving to Orofino. Della did books for William Cummings and for Christy Company, the log skidding carriage company that Don founded. She also worked on the Clearwater County election board for many years.
Della enjoyed her huge garden and flower beds. When not working in the garden, she was busy canning and cooking for her family and friends. She loved camping and travelling to the Washington Coast to go "clamming". She was a gracious hostess who always had a cup of coffee and delicious meal ready for her guests. She was a hard worker and dedicated friend to many.
Della is survived by her husband, Don; her daughter, Doris Christensen and husband, Greg Field of Waimanalo, HI; her son, Steve Christensen and wife, Robin of Orofino; four grandchildren, Dylan Stanfield of New York, Don Christensen II of Everett, WA, Amber Bridgewater of Parma and Jonathan Christensen of Orofino; and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Eugene Betts of Coeur d'Alene.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Phillip Petersen and the nurses of Clearwater Valley Hospital for their dedicated care of Della. A special thank you is extended to Les and P.J. Finney for their care so she was able to remain at home during her final days.

Beulah I. Vrieling, 96, formerly of Orofino
Beulah Vrieling, 96, Grangeville, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 2, 2012 at the Grangeville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Beulah was born to John and Melissa Gorst, March 30, 1915 in Jenkins, MN, one of eight children. She moved to California in 1935 and married
Howard Riek in 1936. They moved to Orofino in 1944, they had three children. Robert Riek, Marilyn Krieger and Ronald Riek, who survive her along with their families. In 1973 her husband passed away.
She met George Vrieling and they were married
March 2, 1976 and lived in Grangeville for 32 years before George passed away on Dec. 14, 2008.
She enjoyed fishing, going to church and all of her families. When she married
George, she gained a family of five. They survive her, Helen Walker, Johanna and Orville Biggers, Bertha Arends, John and Jeanette Vrieling and George and Ruth Vrieling and many grandchildren.

Madge L. Pea, 94
Madge Pea, 94, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at Guardian Angel Homes in Lewiston.
Madge was born July 14, 1917, to Charles and Alice Cleveland at Gifford. She lived all her life in the Gifford area, graduating from Gifford High School in 1936.
She married
her high school sweetheart, Earl Pea, May 24, 1936. She was a stay-at-home farm wife who cooked for harvest crew, drove truck, worked cattle and raised kids. She was very active in the community and a charter member of the Gifford Homemaker Club. She was a member of the Nez Perce County Cow Belles, Women for Agriculture, and was a 4-H leader for 12 years. Madge loved to quilt and with five other ladies in the community met every Wednesday and made hundreds of quilts.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet and Dean Held of Portland, OR, and Mary and Denny Dau of Lenore; six grandchildren, David Held of Portland, Lynrae and Tom Hubbell of Tacoma, WA, Susan and Josh Sutton of Seattle, WA, Stan Dau of Reubens, Margaret and Kim Munson of Riggins, and John Dau of Lenore; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Munson, Hannah Munson and Guthrie Sutton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; three brothers, Don, Max and Merle; and sister, Betty.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston.

Ethel May Polillo, 83, formerly of Weippe
Ethel May Polillo passed away unexpectedly on Christmas Day, 2011. She was born February 1, 1928 in Ellensburg, WA to Alexander Spence and Ethel May Vanderkar. The family moved to Weippe where her father was a logger and her mother owned and ran the local cafe. After graduating from Weippe High School in 1946, Ethel married
her high school sweetheart, Roscoe Glenn Snyder and they had two children, Kathleen and Steven. Roscoe died in 1948 and Steven died in 1950.
In 1955, Ethel married
Clyde Pryor, affectionately known as Mr. Pryor by all. They were married
for 12 years before Mr. Pryor passed away in 1967. Ethel was a career postal employee, working her way up from postal clerk in Weippe and Lewiston, Idaho to Postmaster in Othello, WA and Seaside, OR. The majority of her career was spent at the post office in the Richland, WA. In 1972, Ethel married
Tom Polillo, also a career Postal Service employee. The two of them have lived in Kennewick, WA since 1974. In 2004, Ethel's beloved daughter Kathleen passed away unexpectedly.
As an avid gardener, Ethel displayed her passion for flowers in her beautiful garden on Canal Drive. Ethel loved spending time with the Red Hat Society ladies, solving crossword puzzles and staying in contact with her many friends and family on Facebook. She had an incredible antique doll collection which was her hobby for years. Ethel was the best wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother in the world. The family loved her advice, wisdom, stories, hugs and candor. She was truly loved by all and will be deeply missed.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Roscoe Snyder and Clyde Pryor, her children, Steven and Kathleen, and her brother, Al Spence.
Ethel is survived by her husband Tom, his children Rikk, Ron, Martha (David), Steve (Karla), her son-in-law, Andy Pollard (Glenna), granddaughters Rachel Lalley (Tim), Sarah Geisler (Jason), great-grandchildren Regan, Koen, Austin, her sister, Mary Ann Chapman and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held graveside in Weippe on Friday, Dec.30th, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Heart Association.
