Danielle E. Chilberg, 67
Danielle Elaine Granger Chilberg passed away quietly Nov. 18, 2011, after a long illness, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, from complications from small-cell lung cancer and more recent brain cancer, with her loving husband at her bedside.
She was born to John Merle Granger and Grace Lund Granger Oct. 1, 1944, at the Grace Hospital in Detroit. She was raised in the Los Angeles area, Bellflower, CA and settled in Kendrick after her marriage to Duane Chilberg, a longtime wheat and cattle rancher on Cedar Ridge.
She was employed for many years at San Juan County Bank as a loan officer in Friday Harbor, WA; employed many years with Boeing working in planning at the Seattle, WA facility; and more recently in medical insurance billing in Orofino, for two different offices before her illness.
She is survived by her husband, Duane, at the family home; her sister, Marilyn Granger Willick, of Redding, CA; her children, Ray Burdick of Moscow, Theresa Burdick Parker and husband, Bill Parke,r of Juliaetta, and Marie Burdick Avalon of Albuquerque, NM; stepdaughter, Yvonne Newberry of Moscow; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
You are finally at peace with our Lord in heaven our beloved Dani FOREVER and ALWAYS. You will definitely be missed by all who knew you well.
The family wishes to thank Dani's dear friend Janice Van Hook for her loving care and support at the hospital, the caring staff at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Carondelet House and Dr. Drakes.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Kendrick Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Marvin Preussler officiating.

Aretha Harvey Chilton, 98, Orofino
Aretha Harvey Chilton, born April 8, 1913, passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011. She was the second of seven children born to Ora J. and Lillie Martin Harvey at Harrisburg. She attended the rural school there through the seventh grade. The family moved to Kamiah where she graduated from high school in 1930. Aretha attended the University of Idaho where she earned a degree in education. She went on to teach at rural schools for 10 years in Winona, Harmony Heights and Greer. In 1935 she moved with the family to Orofino.
Aretha married
Lee Chilton on Aug. 12, 1939. They continued to live in the Orofino area where they raised their family of three children. As her family grew, she became very active in their activities. She was a leader for Camp Fire Girls, a leader for 4-H groups, den mother for Cub Scout groups and little league baseball coach.
Aretha did substitute teaching in the Orofino school system for several years. She served as Orofino city librarian from 1959 to 1961. She then accepted the personnel assistant position for the Forest Service with the Clearwater National Forest. After her retirement in 1975, she and Lee traveled throughout the lower 48 states, Alaska and Canada.
Aretha kept very busy with her numerous hobbies. She taught herself to do pine needle basket work, lapidary work, wood carving, needlework, quilt making, gardening, card making and wood work.
After Lee's death in 1985, she devoted much of her time to doing volunteer work for Hospice, her church, RSVP, the hospital auxiliary, the Board of Community Guardians and as service officer for the Retired Federal Employees for 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; her parents; brothers, George and Harry, and two sisters, Bessie Harvey and Lorene Secrest.
Aretha is survived by daughter, Kay Jacobs of Lewiston; daughter Carol of Post Falls; and son, Richard of Oregon City, OR. She is also survived by her brother, Omer Harvey of Lewiston; brother, Finas Harvey of Boise; sister, Ernestine Ball Northcutt of LaGrande, OR; plus many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family requests that donations be made to the Senior Center of Orofino, P.O. Box 93, Orofino, ID 83544, in lieu of flowers.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 22, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Orofino Tabernacle Church in Orofino. A memorial service will follow at the same location at 1 p.m.

Aretha L. Harvey Chilton, 98, Orofino, passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Orofino Tabernacle Church in Orofino. A memorial service will follow at the same location at 1 p.m.

Charles 'Bud' William Pedersen, 78, WHS graduate
Charles Pedersen passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, after a long and brave battle with cancer, with his two sons, Redgey and Guy, and family by his side.
Bud was born March 24, 1933, in Spokane, WA. He graduated from Weippe High School. He was in the National Guard and was a Korean War veteran. Bud worked at the Potlatch Mill for 42 years before and after his military service until his retirement from Potlatch.
Bud was an avid race car fan; his two favorite drivers were A.J. Foyt and Kyle Busch. He also spent a great deal of time at the Banana Belt Speedway in Lewiston and raced go-carts in Spokane with the World of Outlaws. He loved motorcycles and cars; he bought and sold many makes and models and there was always a car or motorcycle that he just had to have!
Bud was married
to Dorothy Solom and had two sons, Redgey and Guy. They later divorced. He married
Lois Sunberg and together raised his two boys.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Pedersen and Lois Eastman; and his biological father, Oswald (Oz) Johnston. He leaves behind his brothers, Gary Pedersen and Conrad Pedersen; sister. Alma Faye; sons, Redgey and Guy Pedersen; grandsons Jesse and Greg; granddaughter Kelly; and great-grandson Dylan Pedersen.
We greatly appreciate all the help and wonderful people from St. Joseph Hospice and ask that any contributions be sent to St. Joseph Hospice.

Norman J. Olson, 49, Orofino, passed away at his home in Orofino Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011.

Mary Louise Litchfield, 91
Mary Louise Litchfield, 91, passed away Sunday Nov. 6, 2011, at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston, WA, from complications of a hip fracture.
Mary was born April 30, 1920, to Erastas Clifford Aplington and Mary Sophia Oliver, in Clarkston.
She married
Charles Nelson Litchfield Jr. just four days after graduating from Clarkston High School. They eloped and were married
in Bonners Ferry June 1, 1938. They were happily married
until his death in 1973. They raised five children and lived on Warner Avenue in the Lewiston Orchards until 1978. For several years she worked as a nurse's aide for a convalescent center in the Orchards, earning enough income to put several of her children through school. She moved to Yakima in 1978 to be near one of her sons and lived there for 33 years.
Mary worked at the S.D.A. Community Services in various capacities since 1957, both in Lewiston and also in Yakima. She helped make thousands of quilts over the years to donate to those who needed them. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading - especially scripture.
She was a great mother, very gracious, always helping others and putting others ahead of herself. We will miss her dearly.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Lana Lee and Joe Decicio and children of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Barbara and Ransom Bentley of Ahsahka; sons Steve and Colette Litchfield of Yakima, and Doug and June Litchfield of Lewiston; sister Lucille Hogan of Sparks, Nev.; grandchildren Cliff Decicio, Frank Decicio, Rick Decicio, Randy Decicio, Dan and Beth Litchfield, Robert Butler, Louise and Brian Hofer, Marc Litchfield, Elena Litchfield and Lacie Bentley; great-grandchildren Jeromy Decicio, Aaron Decicio, Jolana Decicio, Jared Litchfield, Tiffany Kite, McKayla Butler, Justin Wiese, Chelsia Weise and Samuel Hoefer; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Nelson Litchfield Jr., daughter Nancy Jean Wigant, and sisters Vivian Nichols and Nadine Bertran.
At the request of Mary and her family there will be no services. Merchant Funeral Home of Clarkston is handling arrangements.

Norma Ruth Pettengill, 78, Peck, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2011 at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Riverside cemetery.

John A. 'Jack' Woodland, 82
Jack Woodland passed away Oct. 28, 2011, after a prolonged battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Jack was born Nov. 12, 1928, in Lewiston, to Lester and Loretta Woodland. He attended St. Stanislaus Catholic School, later graduating from Lewiston High School. On May 21, 1949, Jack married
Anna Anderson of Lenore.
He was a member of the 148th Field Artillery Battalion for the Idaho National Guard. Jack proudly served his country in the Korean War as a master sergeant from 1951-53. Upon returning from Korea, he and Anna settled in Spokane, WA, later moving their family to Sandpoint. Jack worked for the Spokane International Union Pacific Railroad until he retired in 1988.
Retirement brought the couple back to Lewiston, where Jack, along with Art Court, started the National Guard coffee group. This camaraderie was something Jack loved and looked forward to each week.
Jack was a man of many interests. First and foremost, he loved spending time with his friends and family. To know him was to know his boisterous laugh, his big heart and his larger-than-life presence. Jack knew no strangers. He found great joy driving and tinkering with his stock cars, Model A, Baja Bug, motorcycles and boat.
Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anna of Lewiston; children, Ed and Kathy Woodland of West Palm Beach, FL., Terri Woodland and Arnie Rathbun of Coeur d'Alene, Connie Woodland and Richard Ballard of Sandpoint, Tom and Jane Woodland of Gooding and Jackie Woodland and Steve Acarregui of Boise; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Sandy Woodland and Jim and Pat Woodland of Spokane.
Jack was preceded in death by his infant son, Mark, and sister, Peggy.
The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home of Lewiston. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, followed by a graveside service with military honors at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens.
Elizabeth Pierce, 52, born in Orofino
Elizabeth (Liz) Pierce of Lewiston passed away Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, surrounded by her family and friends.
Elizabeth Jane DeForest was born Aug. 15, 1959, in Orofino, to Joyce and Gerald Lee DeForest. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1977. Liz had a huge heart and believed in helping others, as she always did. Liz married
David Simpson, and they later divorced. She married
Samuel (Ed) Pierce June 24, 1984.
Liz is survived by her husband, Ed; her sons and their families, Timothy and Mel DeForest of Clarkston, and Jerry and Corine DeForest of Lewiston; her mother, Joyce Payton of Kamiah; her sisters, Harriet Kalm of Lewiston, Aurora and Ken Riley of Clarkston, WA, and Melinda Carranza of Clarkston; her brothers, Calvin Hines of Kamiah, and Gerald and Melanie Hines of Lewiston; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Liz was preceded in death by her father, Gerald, and her stepfather, Gale Payton.
There will be a service for Liz's family and close friends at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lewiston Community Center. Bring your favorite covered dish.

Irene Isabelle Trenary, 99, Kooskia
Irene Isabelle Trenary, 99, of Kooskia, Idaho died early Saturday morning Dec. 17, 2011 at the Haven of Rest in Kamiah. She was born May 29, 1912, to Roy B. and Jennie Belle Duncan Weld on the farm near Chaseley, Wells Co. ND. She enjoyed all the various events that went along with growing up on their farm that her parents homesteaded in 1906. The family moved to the Kooskia area in 1928 and she graduated from Kooskia High School in 1931.
She and Claude Vale Trenary were married
on Claude's 25th birthday June 22, 1935 in a unique ceremony while flying over the Lewis Clark Valley in Zimmerly's airplane. This unusual wedding location was because of Claude's infatuation with flying.
Over the years Irene and Claude made many trips in their airplane and later their motor home to various parts of the country and world.
Irene worked in all aspects of the family businesses which included the lunch counter early on and eventually she was in charge of housewares and gifts, both in the Trenary Hardware Store. In 1950 she became a licensed funeral director and served for many years with her husband in operating Trenary Funeral Home where her knowledge of and love of families in the region was of great value to both Claude and later her son, Mark, in serving the community as funeral directors.
She was a faithful member of the Kooskia Presbyterian Church where she was involved with the ladies Presbyterian Club. She spearheaded the rummage sales that they held for many years. Irene was a charter member of the ladies group in Kooskia called the Thirteen Club, which started with 13 members. Being a people person, she loved doing care packages at Christmas time and for many newlyweds. She was a very giving person and especially enjoyed giving cakes to families who had lost a dear one or when someone was ill. Irene sent thousands of birthday, sympathy, get well and wedding cards for the Presbyterian Club, as well as for herself. Irene valued her numerous friendships with many members of the Nez Perce Indian Community.
However, her primary calling was that of wife and mother in which she excelled. She was the person who kept all family ties together by her great communication skills. To a number of her nieces and nephews she was affectionately called "Aunt I".
Her husband died in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Myrtle Smith Hurd, Webster Weld, Luella Jordan Wyckoff, and Robert Weld. Surviving are her daughter Sharon White McLean, son Mark Trenary, grandsons Bryan Trenary and Lance White, step grandsons Rob and Ryan Dennison, Byron and Brett McLean and 11 great grand children as well as her nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at Trenary Funeral Home in Kooskia with a Celebration of her life following at 12 o'clock noon Thursday Dec. 22. Burial will follow at Pine Grove cemetery at Kooskia. A covered dish luncheon will take place after the burial at the IOOF Lodge building in Kooskia. William Eugene 'Bill" Snook, 80, Orofino
William Eugene 'Bill' Snook, 80, Orofino, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, from causes related to dementia.
Bill was born Jan. 16, 1931 in Spokane, WA, to Melvin and Lily Agnes (Redford) Snook. He was the middle child of three in the family.
His early years were spent in the logging camps around St. Maries and Priest River in north Idaho. The family moved to Orofino when he was 15 and he graduated from Orofino High School in 1949.
Bill worked in the woods with his father during his teen years. Later he joined the Air Force and spent four years serving his country. A majority of that time was in Germany. After he was discharged, he decided to attend the University of Idaho and pursue a degree in teaching. Following his college graduation, he went to the Los Angeles area of California to teach. He spent the early part of his career teaching fifth and sixth graders. Later he taught at a school for troubled teens.
He marred while in Germany and they had two children, Anola and Eugene. Following a divorce, Bill returned to Orofino and worked independently on various projects for people.
He met Bernita 'Bea' (Leavitt) Gustin in Orofino and they were married
April 16, 1989 in Clarkston, WA. Her children, Kent, Denise, Tasha and Tonya, were all grown but were always helpful with projects that Bill and Bea needed done, such as getting wood.
The couple bought the Snook farm on Harmony Heights from his father and lived there for about 10 years before moving to town. Bill loved to spend time in the woods on his four-wheeler.
Bill was a long time member of Alcoholics Anonymous and tried to help others through the struggles he had experienced. He enjoyed visiting with friends at the Ponderosa and all over town when he met them. He also loved playing Santa Claus.
He spent several years as a trustee of Joint School District #171 and was an advocate for the children and their needs.
In his later years, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Eugene.
He is survived by his wife, Bernita 'Bea', Orofino; two sisters, Evelyn Olsen, Orofino and Mary Lou Dion, Coeur d'Alene; his daughter, Anola and her husband, Rick Bunting of Vista, CA; Bea's children, Kent Gustin of Clarkston, Denise Gustin of Clarkston, Tasha Snyder of Willowa, OR, and Tonya Doughty of Cottage Grove, OR; grandchildren, Nicole and Kristen; step grandchildren, Rickie, Jared, Amy, Stevie, Lynn, Adam, Jeremy, Jason, Jeffery, Juliann, Gary and JaRae. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
There will be a viewing from 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Orofino Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. He will be buried Monday in Vineland cemetery in Clarkston.
