Jeannine Kay Martin, 69, Weippe, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011, in Weippe.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the IOOF Rebekah Lodge on Main St. in Weippe. A covered dish potluck luncheon will follow the service.
A second memorial service will take place in Orofino at 4 p.m. in the Homestead Lounge.

James 'Jim' Crutcher Sr., 86, Orofino
James "Jim" Monroe Crutcher Sr., Orofino, passed away Friday, April 15, 2011 from natural causes. He was 86.
Jim was born Aug. 7, 1924 in Orofino to James Andrew and Mae Fern Crutcher. He graduated from Orofino High School in 1942 and was a member of Troupe No. 205 of the National Thespian Dramatic Honor Society.
He served in the Army in the Philippines during World War II from May 1943 through January 1946 and was awarded two Purple Hearts for being wounded in two separate engagements. After the war, Jim attended Kinman Business University in Spokane, WA and graduated in 1948 with a degree in accounting.
He returned to the Orofino area and worked as a carpenter for local contractors, a bookkeeper for White Pine Planer and Ahsahka Mill and as a custodian for Orofino Elementary School. He also served as Quartermaster of VFW Post #3296 for a period of time.
Jim married
Betty Smolinski in September 1966 and celebrated 44 years of marriage. He was previously married
to Tiny Williams and Loretta Keeney.
In 1978, Jim and his brother Bill purchased the Oasis Bar and turned it into the "hottest bar in town." During the 25 years of ownership, many Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners were served for local patrons and friends and multiple fundraisers were held for people in need.
An Oasis float was always seen in the parade during Lumberjack Days and there were several trophies on the wall for the Oasis dart, baseball, arm wrestling and billiard teams.
Jim had a love of baseball and the only baseball team worth watching…"Go Yankees!" He also liked to travel with his beloved wife, Betty and his poodle, Angel, who was always at his side. They enjoyed many trips around the area and he was especially fond of Yellowstone National Park.
Jim is survived by his wife, Betty, of Orofino; seven children, daughter Darlene Eisle, Montana, son, Donald Pitcher, Orofino, daughter, Bonnie and her husband Mark Buntin, Bolingbrook, IL, son, Joe Crutcher, Greer, son, Bill Crutcher and his wife, Jan, Lewiston, daughter, Susan, and her husband, Bill Harris, Peck, daughter, Peggy Klamke, Quilcene, WA,; brother, William Crutcher, Walla Walla, WA; sister, Mary Ellen Starkey, Lake Havasu City, AZ; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents James Andrew and Mae Fern Crutcher and his son James Monroe Crutcher Jr.
The family would like to invite everyone to a potluck, bring memories of good times and share in the tribute to our husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. A "Celebration of Jim's Life" will be held Saturday, April 23, 11 a.m. at the Peck Community Club.
D. Clifford Anderson, 93, Orofino
Clearwater County lost a pioneer with the passing of D. Clifford Anderson April 10, 2011, at Clearwater Valley Hospital.
Cliff was born to Elizabeth J. and Daniel G. Anderson July 23, 1917, on the Wells Bench ranch where he resided for 93+ years. His father migrated from Norway and homesteaded 160 acres in 1905. This ranch has remained in the Anderson family for 106 years. At the age of 14, Cliff moved to town where he "batched" and attended Orofino High School. He rode his horse the six miles to be at home on weekends. He graduated from Orofino High School in 1934 and worked in Spokane delivering laundry and the Idaho State Hospital North before returning to the ranch where he was raised.
On May 30, 1941, Cliff married
Gladys M. Flathers, a school teacher from Jerome, who had come to the Wells Bench School to teach. They had two children, son, Craig, and daughter, Greta, and enjoyed 62 years of marriage until Gladys' passing June 8, 2003.
Cliff was primarily a beef cattle rancher, but supplemented that income with work in the woods; as a Soil Conservation District technician, and as a Clearwater County Commissioner.
Cliff believed in giving back to the community and state in which he resided. He served 10 years as a Clearwater County Commissioner during a span of time ranging from 1955 to 1979. During his 1955-1957 term, he was instrumental in bringing Clearwater Valley Hospital to Orofino. He later served 11 years on the Hospital's Board of Trustees, including 10 as Chairman. Cliff also gave 21 years of service on the Board of Directors of the Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association. A life-long Democrat, he was recognized in 2008 by the Clearwater County Democrats for dedicated service. Cliff believed in the future of the youth that was reflected by his life-long service to the 4H program. He also served as a Director of the Idaho Cattlemen's Association; supervisor of the local Soil Conservation District; and, a member of the Idaho Animal Damage Control Board from 1957 to 2005. As a 93-year resident of Clearwater County, he was an invaluable resource for the Clearwater Historical Museum and served a number of years on its board, including acting as treasurer.
Cliff also attended the Wells Bench Community Church, once known as the Anderson Sunday School, beginning as a young child. He was also a member of the Wells Bench Grange No. 378; Clearwater County Pomona Grange, and Idaho State Grange.
Survivors include son, D. Craig Anderson (Pat) of Turner, OR; daughter, Greta DeSola (James) of Robstown, TX; grandson, Jace Anderson of Corvallis, OR; nieces, Joellen McGill (Steve), Lori Kaufman (Larry), and Dana Vargas (John) all of Orofino; cousin, Lillian Stanley (Ted) of Seattle, WA; and, friend and companion, Carolyn Bray of Orofino.
The services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 20, at 2 p.m., at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino. Burial will follow at Sanders cemetery on Lower Wells Bench Rd. There will be a reception beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Krystal Cafe, 128 Johnson Ave., Orofino. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of D. Clifford Anderson to:

James Snyder, 91, Weippe, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino.

Richard 'Dick' Medley, 72, formerly of Pierce
Richard 'Dick' Medley, 72, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 7, 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.
Dick was born Oct. 18, 1938, at the family home in Weiser. Dick was the second of three sons born to Isom and Dollie Medley.
Dick attended grade school in Weiser and Riggins. He excelled in sports and graduated from Salmon River High School in 1956. He began logging with his dad in 1955 near Pollock. Dick married
Glory Wisenor in 1957. They made their home in Riggins and were blessed with two sons, Mark and Jeff, and a daughter, Raine, who died as an infant.
In the early '60s he worked for Salmon River Logging. Dick moved his family to Camp 60 and Pierce in 1966, where he was partners in the first tong-throwing machine. He kept busy as an independent contractor skidding and loading logs. Over the years, he earned a reputation around the Northwest for his remarkable and seamless operating skills.
Soon after a divorce in 1973, he purchased Fromelt Logging and formed Medley Co. He logged in the Pierce area and throughout the Northwest for the next 15 years.
On April 14, 1977, he married
Janice Province, which included the blessing of being dad to a son, Steve Province. Ambition and adventure led Dick and Janice to pursue several other business ventures including gold mining in Alaska from 1983 to 1985. In 1985, he founded Medley Co. Cedar Mill, which today is a three-generation-strong company that continues to be operated by Dick's son and grandson.
Upon liquidating the logging portion of Medley Co., the allure of a partnership in a shot shell reloader manufacturing company in Rathdrum, Ponsness/Warren, captured Dick's interest. After becoming the sole owner in 1989, Dick and Janice moved to Rathdrum to operate and expand the company. Although Dick and Janice relocated to Lewiston in 2000, Dick remained an active part of this one-of-a-kind innovative business, which still operates today by an exceptional group of dedicated individuals. In the '90s Dick was also involved in several residential land developments with his brother throughout Idaho, including Redheart Ridge at Lenore.
From their home in Lewiston, Dick and Janice were able to be closer to family. Dick's brother Gary and wife Jeanne, and his children, Corey, Nikki and Hope, considered Dick not only as a brother and uncle, but as a best friend.
Over the years, Dick and Janice made many wonderful friends as they enjoyed trapshooting, golfing and traveling together. He was highly competitive and excelled at trapshooting and golf, winning many awards, including delegate for the State of Idaho Amateur Trapshooting Association. Being an avid hunter, he was also instrumental in making sure his grandsons bagged their first bucks.
His love was keeping active, whether it was working hard or playing hard and being surrounded by his family and friends. He left us on a sunny day, while working in his beautiful yard.
Husband, dad, brother, grandpa, uncle and friend - you will be greatly missed. We love you.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Janice; brothers and spouses, Gary and Jeanne Medley, and Don and Myrna Medley; sons and spouses, Mark and Mary Jo Medley, Jeff Medley, Steve and Shawn Province; and grandchildren, Ryan and Janel, Wade, Shane, Annette, Lucas, Beth, Katie, Alex, Jacqueline, Emma and Rachael; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Isom and Dollie Medley; and his daughter, Raine Medley.
A celebration of Dick's life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Clarkston Event Center, 841 Sixth St., with a hosted luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Lewis-Clark Animal Shelter, 6 Shelter Road, Lewiston, ID 83501.
Donna Mary Theresa (Salonek) Bloom, 68
Born in Watertown, MN May 12, 1942, Donna spent her career caring for others as a nurse and a nursing administrator. She worked in several hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the Seattle. WA area where she helped make thousands of lives better and more comfortable either in health or near their ends.
Her husband, Donald Bloom, is a 1955 graduate of Orofino High School.
In her final two years, she herself was lovingly cared for by Donald, her husband of 32 years, daughters Lauren and Rochelle, and the staff of Virginia Mason Hospital-where she'd worked as a nurse in the early sixties when she first arrived in Seattle. She passed away March 30, 2011.
Outside of her nursing career, she was a mistress of arts, crafts and the Minnesota hotdish, and had a way of telling stories with so much intricate detail that even she didn't know where or when the story would end. After years of health challenges and finally a diagnosis with a troubling prognosis, and after going home and beginning hospice to be near the things, the people and the little Scottie dog she loved so much, she left this world for the next. But her ornately detailed story lives on.
Donna is survived by Don, her husband of 32 years; her children, Lauren (Ric) Brandt, Sean Anderson, and Rochelle (John) Hill; Don's children, Rick Bloom, Chris (Debi) Bloom, Steve (Vicki) Bloom, and Lisa (Scott) Smith; 12 outstanding grandchildren, and many good friends. She also leaves behind brothers, Paul (Elaine) Salonek, Urb (Rose) Salonek; sister, Anne (George) Lambrecht; sisters-in-law, Marge Salonek and Jean Salonek. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Theodore and Theresa Salonek, and brothers, Leo and Ted Salonek.
Harold H. Smith, Orofino
A Memorial Service was held on March 28 for Harold H. Smith at the Orofino Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall. He passed away at Clearwater Health and Rehab on March 20, 2011.
His wife of 52 years, Helen Y. Smith also passed away at Clearwater Health and Rehab on March 29, 2011. A Memorial Service was held for her at the Orchards Christian Church in Lewiston on April 2.
They will both be missed very much. Their family would like to thank everyone who attended their memorial services, and for all the calls, card and flowers. "Thank you to all the family and friends for all the care and support. We could not have made it through this without you. A special thank you to Clearwater Health and Rehab for all the love and care they gave our parents and to Pine Hills Funeral Chapel and Crematory. They were so helpful and caring in this time of great loss of both of our parents in such a short time. Again…Thank you everyone."

Helen Yvonne Smith, 71, Orofino
Helen Y. Smith was born on April 19, 1939 in Orofino to Ted and Viola Borders. She was raised in the Frazier-Weippe area and graduated from Weippe High School. She then met her soon to be husband Harold on a blind date and they were married
on March 12, 1959. She had 3 children.
While busy being a mom she also worked for Lewiston Painting for many years. She was also a cook in the deli at K-Mart and finally she retired as a cook from the Lewiston school district in 2006.
She was on the LOID Board. Helen loved being an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was in charge of the Junior Girls Unit and held many offices throughout the years. She would always save her quarters so she could play 31. She enjoyed camping and being with family and friends.
She is survived by her three children, Herman and wife, Geneva Smith of Culdesac, Cheryl and husband, Mike Bymun of Duncan, AZ., Kim Smith of Peck; seven grandchildren, Christine Smith and her finance, Sean Stubblefield, Jessica Smith, and Stephanie Harris all of Lewiston, Mike, Mathew, and Max Bymun of New Mexico, Magen Bymun of Arizona, a step-grandson, Glen and wife, Cherie Arnold of Culdesac; four great-grandchildren, Sammy, Katie, Emily and Flee of Culdesac. She loved her children and great grandchildren very much.
She was preceded in death on March 20, 2011 by her husband, Harold. They had just celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. They were both very much loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed. We love you and will miss you both very much.
