Daniel G.R. Shreve, 67, Orofino, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, in Lewiston.
A celebration of life/covered dish dinner will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 2682 Larson Rd., Weippe. Pine Hills Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Shirley Irene Harrington, 75, Orofino
Shirley Irene Harrington was born Sept. 18, 1935 to Joseph William and Katherine Ann Kaberline in Denver, CO, and passed Aug. 12, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Cancer may have won the battle, but Shirley won the war. Cancer could never change who she was.
She spent her early years in Colorado before the family moved to Fresno, CA. She married
Albert Senior in October of 1955. The family moved to Los Angeles in 1962 were she worked at Jorgensen Steel. The marriage ended in divorce in 1973. She continued to work and raised her son and daughter. She married
Bert Harrington in December of 1982. He convinced her to retire and travel with him. They settled in the area were he was raised. When she arrived in Orofino she fell in love with the river, the valley and the people. They operated Vacationland Hotel and RV Park on Highway 12. In 1995 they converted the park to Riverview Estates, a senior citizen's mobile home park and remodeled the hotel into a duplex. They continued to operate the business until it was purchased to enlarge the neighboring Canoe Camp site in 2002. Bert passed in May of 2005 and she decided to move into Brookside Landing. Because of her declining health, she moved to Clearwater Health and Rehabilitation in March of 2008. She dearly loved her "family" there. They became the children and grandchildren of her heart. She made the decision to spend her last days there surrounded by people that loved her as much as she loved them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bert and great-grandson, Austin Stump, great-granddaughter, Prudence Watson and nephew, James Dukes.
She is survived by her son, Joseph (Cindy) Senior of Kingman, AZ, daughter, Christina Lymberopoulos (Mike Lee) of Orofino, brothers and sisters: George (Jan), Ted (Louanne), David (Lori), Don (Debbie), Jayne Dukes, La Jean Pendergrass of California and Joyce (Rex) Pevehouse of Orofino, Idaho, many nieces and nephews, nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, at Pine Hills at 11 a.m., interment at Riverside Cemetary and a potluck at the Senior Center at 12:30 p.m.

Vaudus Helm, 73, Orofino
Vaudus Helm passed away on Aug. 8, 2011 at home with her two daughters by her side.
She was born on Nov. 15, 1927 at Chester, Idaho to Oriah and Elsie Helm. She was raised on the farm with one brother and five sisters.
She moved to Pocatello, Idaho at age 17 to work on the railroad with two of her sisters during World War II.
She married
Ted Winters, the boy next door on Feb. 28, 1947. They moved to California so that Ted could work at the race track with her brother Mosier. They had a daughter, Donna while living there. They returned to Chester to work on the family farm. A son, Curt and a daughter Teresa were born there. They later moved to Idaho Falls when Ted got a job there and raised their family there. She was living in Orofino at the time of her death.
She was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the kind of person who always put others before herself. She made the best fried chicken and homemade bread in the world.
She was very ill for years but never complained. She just enjoyed the time with her family and was thankful for the small pleasures in life. Her wonderful smile and special spirit will be missed very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Delpha, Wanda, Naomi, Veva and Marcia, a brother Mosier; and a grandson, Roy Fonnesbeck.
She is survived by daughters, Teresa Van Kirk (Robert Van Kirk) and Donna Fonnesbeck (Dee Fonnesbeck), and son Curt Winters; five grandchildren, Andrea Fonnesbeck, Lyndee Aardema, Brittany Goetz, Sean Moen and Randy Pardini and three great grandchildren, Bradley, Ava and Ella.
Services will held at the Orofino Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 13610 Fremont Ave., on Friday Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Wells Bench cemetery.

Robert Jett Hohnstein, 79, Cardiff Spur
Robert Jett Hohnstein passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at Life Care Center in Lewiston, of renal failure. He was 79.
He was born at the family home in Elk Creek, Clearwater County, March 23, 1932, to Fredrick and Daisy May Laws. He was adopted as a child by Henry Hohnstein after his father's death.
He was raised in Cardiff Spur and attended school in Pierce.
Robert married
June Ellen Knapton Feb. 19, 1951, in Lewiston. They made their family home in Cardiff Spur and shared 36 years together, having six children. June passed away in February 1987.
He married
Alysann Anderson in December 1987 and they continued to live in Cardiff until moving to Lewiston. He worked for Potlatch mill in Headquarters as a loader operator for 41 years until his retirement.
Robert was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Pierce. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. After retirement, he enjoyed buying, restoring and selling items at his yard sales. He liked riding his Schwinn motor scooter around Lewiston, and looked forward to visits with his family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Alysann of Lewiston; his children, Roger and Kyoko Hohnstein of Portland, OR, Bob and Hildie Hohnstein of Lewiston, Susan and Jim Gustin of Orofino, Dianna and Mike Reece of Waitsburg, WA, Rory Hohnstein of Clarkston, WA and Karen and Todd Wilson of Post Falls; his grandchildren, Yashuhiro Yamamoto, Ashley Reece, Wesley Hohnstein, Samantha Gustin, Kasen and Kanyon Hohnstein, and Tyler, Jensen and Jaxsen Wilson; a sister-in-law, Lillian Laws of Thompson Falls, MT; and brother-in-law, Jim and Rose Knapton of Stites.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife June; three brothers, Doyle Laws, Wes Laws and John Laws; and a sister, Esther Wilson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston. His graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Pierce cemetery. The services will be followed by a lunch and all those attending are invited to share.
Florence T. Tackett, 86
Florence T. Swanson-Tackett passed away Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at the Lewiston Life Care Center. She was born Oct. 25, 1924, in Deary to Alvin and Violet Olson.
She grew up in Deary, where she met and married
Herman Swanson of Troy. They had three children, David, Myrtle Ann and Steve. Herman died in a logging accident at Headquarters in 1971. Florence then married
John Tackett, owner of John's Saw Service in 1972. She spent 20 years helping John serve their friends and the public at the saw shop before John passed away in 1992.
In her earlier working career, she had several different jobs working in retail stores in Lewiston and Clarkston, as well as being a homemaker.
Florence enjoyed playing bingo at many establishments in her younger years. She also enjoyed her Sunday drives, gathering firewood and going to motorcycle races to watch her son, Steve, race. She was known as the Fossil Bowl "mom" by all the riders. She was always willing to cook pancakes and eggs before the races, and have spaghetti for the boys after the races.
Surviving Florence are her children, David Swanson, and Ann and Warren Watts, all of Clarkston, WA,and Steve and Sue Swanson of Lewiston; along with her grandchildren, Diana Blimka, Brenda Krier, Teresa Overall, Ashley and Casey Swanson and Rhonda Stuart; five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; her brothers, Dorman and Tim Olson; her sisters, Margie Heustis of Deary and Lorraine Perry of Spokane; and several nieces and nephews.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Herman Swanson and John Tackett; her brothers, Walt, Bill, Lawrence, Richard and Dale Olson; and sisters, Joan Pinks and Ella Mae Olson.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens, with Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Marla Eileen (Goffinet) Forsmann, 77, formerly of Peck
Marla was born Dec. 16, 1933 to Gordon and Elizabeth Goffinet in Orofino. She was raised in Peck and graduated from Orofino High School in 1951.
She married
Arnold Forsmann in 1956. They moved to Yakima, WA then Seattle, WA and returned to Peck when Arnold retired. When Arnold passed on she moved to Kirkland, WA to be with her only daughter and lived there until her death on July 27, 2011.
She enjoyed many crafts including gardening, crocheting, sewing,embroidery, crossword puzzles, picture puzzles and plastic canvas.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet of Kirkland, brother, Donald Goffinet of Lewiston, brother, Virgil (Irene) Goffinet of Lewiston, three nieces and three nephews.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, Aug. 6, at 11 am, at Vineland cemetery in Clarkston, WA.
Floyd Gordon Snyder, 87, Weippe
Floyd Gordon Snyder, formerly of Weippe passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center after battling a long and extended illness.
Floyd was born to Denver and Sylvia (Teed) Snyder at the family home on the Weippe Prairie May 20, 1924. He was a fun-loving and mischievous boy who was raised in a family of eight children (five boys and three girls). Floyd was eight years old when his father passed away, and his mother passed away when he was eleven years old. The close-knit family of children managed to stay together with the help of their grandmother, Lillian Teed.
During those years, Floyd was educated in the Weippe schools. When he was fourteen years old and a freshman in high school, he worked nights in a lumber mill on a green chain and went to school by day. Floyd was a proud member of Weippe's first six-man football team and he played on the school's basketball team.
Floyd married
his high school sweetheart, Barbara (Wells) Snyder, May 27, 1944. During their years together, Floyd worked on their ranch to develop a herd of Hereford cattle. He also worked 20 years in the logging industry for Frank Fromelt after which he continued working for various other logging operations. In off-seasons, he worked at various locations as an operating engineer through the Operating Engineer's Local 370 running heavy equipment. In 1973 the couple sold their ranch and moved to Weippe where they still own their home.
Floyd loved basketball. He attended referee classes and served as a referee for high school games. He also played for several years on Weippe and Pierce town teams. For three years, he coached basketball to a group of boys from their fifth grade year through eighth grade. This group of boys later went on to win the state championship in their league. Floyd was really proud of the boys' accomplishment.
Floyd enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, team roping, going to auction sales, and serving as a livestock project 4-H leader. He never knew a stranger, and he always enjoyed visiting with other people. He also enjoyed listening to music provided by family members. Family was very important to Floyd.
Surviving Floyd is his wife, Barbara, of 67 years; his daughter Gwen (Burton) Greenfield and her husband Vic; his grandchildren Ted Burton, Kim Burton, and Russ Burton and his wife Elena; and his one great-grandchild, Aleska Burton. Also surviving Floyd are two sisters, Marie Vanderpool and Lillie Thiessen and her husband Gordon; numerous nieces, one nephew, and numerous cousins. Floyd was preceded in death by his son, Roger Snyder; his parents; his brothers, Robert, Bert, Ellis, and Louie; and his sister, Mary.
The family would like to sincerely thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who provided Floyd care during his long illness. A special thanks to Dr. Gregory Buratto, his doctor of many years.
Funeral services will be held at11:00 am. Monday, July 25, at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino. A graveside service will take place at the Weippe cemetery followed by a potluck dinner at the White Pine Rebekah Lodge in Weippe.

Doris Bonner Lyda, 77, Orofino
Doris Bonner Lyda, 77, passed away Friday, July 8, 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, within a month of a cancer diagnosis. She died peacefully with her loved ones by her side. She was born in the family home in Orofino, to Blaine and Cleta Bonner Jan. 6, 1934. She lived her life to the fullest in beautiful Clearwater County.
She met her life's partner when she opened the family door to a disheveled but handsome young man needing help with a deer. Doris and Perk Lyda were married
July 15, 1949, in Orofino, and would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary this Friday. The young couple spent their honeymoon years living at Johnson's Mill where Perk worked, while Doris honed her wonderful cooking skills. It was at this time their loving daughter, Kathy Ann, was born. She died in 1996.
In the late '50s, Doris wanted to follow her dream of becoming a nurse and attended school in Lewiston. She discovered she was much too tenderhearted for this and happily moved into cosmetology, where she delighted in visiting with her clients as she met their beauty needs.
She loved being outdoors whether to work or play. Perk became a professional fishing guide on the Clearwater River and they met many wonderful people, some of whom were famous, from all over who came here to fish with them and enjoy Doris' great cooking. These lasting friendships led to many interesting traveling experiences, several to Nashville where they often were invited backstage at the Grand Old Opry. But Doris was happiest when at the ranch they bought in Grangemont, where they nurtured a commercial Christmas tree farm for 26 years, and rode four-wheelers in the summer and snowmobiles in the winter.
Her close-knit cousins are more like sisters and brothers, and she loved spending time with them on trips to Montana, the Oregon Coast, at the Clearwater County Fair and at the Bonner Mountain Music Festival. Also precious to her, were the times spent with friends, especially the campouts at Wilderness Gateway, playing cards or Bunko, and at weekly jam sessions she and Perk hosted.
Doris was always kind and generous, and patriotic to the bone; she was also spunky and never afraid to speak her mind. She endeared herself to many and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Perk; and dog, Buffy; at their Orofino home of 55 years; her "girls," Cheri Jenks and Karen (Bird) Goodwin; and many cherished cousins and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kathy, and brother, Glenn Bonner.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Orofino Riverside cemetery, just below the American flag. Phil Bonner will officiate and a small dinner for family only will follow.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Clearwater Humane Society, P.O. Box 2063, Orofino, ID 83544, is suggested.
