Ellen Wisdom, 79, Weippe
Ellen Wisdom, long time resident of the Weippe area, passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at Providence St. Mary's Medicall Center in Walla Walla, WA, surrounded by her children.
Ellen was born Aug. 19, 1932 to Jess and Marie Stout in Twin Falls. She married
Glen Jones Aug. 7, 1947. They had six children. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Ellen married
Jake Wisdom in June 1977. She became widowed in Decmber of 1991.
Ellen was a member of the Rebekahs Lodge in Weippe, serving as Noble Grand and Chaplin in 1990. She was nominated and received the Decoration of Chivalry by her sisters of Rebekahs.
Ellen worked as a school bus driver for the Weippe School. She also worked with children with learning disabilities. She assisted in the dietary program for the first kindergarten class in Weippe.
Ellen is survived by her children: Connie and Steve Spencer, Kathy and Rick McIntosh, of Weippe, Steve and Melody Jones and Troy and Amy Jones of Walla Walla, Dawn Thompson of Waldport, OR, Allen and Viola Wisdom of Grangeville, Yvonne and Jim Logan of Hermiston, OR, Ron and Connie Wisdom of Lewiston, Dan and Grace Grigsby of Irigon, OR, Pauline and Jerry Hill and Marline Sanders of Boise; many grandchildren and great grandchildren who she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jess and Marie Stout; her husband, Jake Wisdom; and two of her children, Debbie Jones and Arthur Jones, Jr.
Pine Funeral Chapel and Crematory of Orofino is in charge of arrangements. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. at Pine Hills.
Lois Anne Hoffman, 84
Lois Anne Hoffman, former Winchester resident, died of renal failure Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston. Lois was born April 26, 1926, in Cottonwood to Dr. William C. and Gladys McGrath Loft. In 1944, she graduated from St. Gertrude's Academy in Cottonwood.
She was set up on a successful date with Donald J. Hoffman by his sister Marie. Don and Lois were married
July 28, 1945, and they survived the arrangement for 41 years! She lived next door to her mother-in-law during those years and they became the best of friends.
Lois was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Lewiston.
She is survived by her children, Tricia Hoffman of Boulder Creek, CA, Judi and Rich Puckett of Lewiston, Bob and Jill Hoffman of Bend, OR, Lori and Tim Tautfest of Craigmont, Rick and Carla Hoffman of Winchester, and Marci Hoffman of Clarkston, WA; 15 grandchildren, Alissa, Ryan, Jason, Jeremy, Brianne, Brandon, Eric, Britney, Jennifer, Justin, Mark, Alyson, Joshua, Heather and Destiny, and their spouses; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Loft of Lenore; brother-in-law, Vern Uptmor of Lewiston; sisters-in-law, Jan Loft and Rita Loft, both of Spokane, WA; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Lois in death were her parents; husband, Don; her brothers, Robert and David Loft; and sisters, Dorothy Haas and Mary (Kaye) Uptmor.
As a young woman Lois had her first flying experience doing barrel rolls in a two-seater open cockpit plane. She loved it! This gave her and Don, a U.S. Army Air Corps staff sergeant, something fun to talk about! Lois spent most of her married
life taking care of her family of six in Winchester, just "The" look in her eye meant you better stop doing that; she never had to raise her voice.
She was quite an accomplished artist, creating pencil drawings and oil paintings. Dancing was another favorite. Lois and her brother, Bob, were hometown jitterbug champions. She danced with Don anytime she could get him on the dance floor.
In 1978, Lois was hired by Dr. John Dertinger, dentist, as office manager for his practice. She thought she didn't have the skills to do the job as "just a mom" but spent 20 years in that role. She loved working with the staff and talking with the patients - many of whom became great friends.
After retiring at age 71, she enjoyed many travels with her sister, Kaye, her friend, Wilma Greene, and a special highlight, vacationing in Australia with her daughter, Trish. She also enjoyed many visits with other family members.
A memorial service will be conducted for Lois at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lewiston.
Memorial contributions may be made to Operation Smile, Winchester Quick Response, Paralyzed Veterans or a favorite charity. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all!

Randall Lee McHaffie, 64, Orofino
Randall Lee McHaffie, 64, Orofino, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 at his residence.

Frances Alberta Fry, 90, born at Grangemont
Frances Alberta Danner Fry was born Dec. 21, 1920, and left this Earth to join her husband in heaven on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at her home in Life Care Center of Lewiston. She was born in Grangemont, the oldest girl of 14 children, to Ethel and Warren Danner.
She is survived by her siblings, Harriet Fullerton, Ethel Brownfield, Martha Osborne, Norma McCumber, June Geidl, Robert Danner, Joyce Haley and Elmer Danner. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry L. Fry; her parents; and her siblings, Lawrence, Earl, Laurel, Wayne and Leslie Danner. She is also survived by her children, Karen and Jerry Lundin of Helena, MT, Shelley and Bruce Dyer of Lewiston, and Larry and Sheri Fry of Meridian; and her grandchildren, Kris and Rob Hamann, Lenny and Connie Lundin, Ericka Jenkins, Ken and Heather Dyer, Jaymee and Jim Laws, Tyler Fry and Kelli Fry; and great-grandchildren, Austin, Devin and Logan Lundin, Hannah and Carly Jenkins, Paige, Emma, Audrey and Rosie Dever and Katie Dyer.
She and Harry were married
Feb. 28, 1942, in Lewiston.
She was a strong and extremely resourceful little woman who was called on to take care of everything when Harry was seriously injured in World War II. For the two years that he was in the hospital recovering, she worked and cared for their daughter Karen. Later, she and Harry had daughter Shelley and then son Larry.
Throughout her life, Frances worked hard. She liked to keep busy, and was an accomplished seamstress and gardener. She canned, baked, knitted and crocheted. Crocheting was a huge part of her life and she donated more than 500 hand-crocheted lap robes to the Shriners Hospital, as well as making a personalized afghan for every member of her and Harry's families.
She was an avid bowler for Seven-Up for many years. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star, past president of Orchardettes Gardening Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and was a member of the Order of the Amaranth.
She was very creative and did ceramics, beautiful paintings, and she loved to sing. She loved to travel and always kept her overnight bag packed and ready to go. She was willing to help anyone in need. In 2003, Frances went to live at Life Care Center in Lewiston. There she was loved and cared for, and referred to by most everyone as "Mama." Her family would like to extend a special thank-you to the nurses and aides who cared for her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes, 2015 13th Ave., Lewiston. Burial will follow at Normal Hill cemetery. Funeral arrangements were handled by Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home of Lewiston.
Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital or the charity of your choice.
Velma Louise Allen, 95
Our mom, grandma, great-grams and sister passed away peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning, Sept. 4, 2011, at Guardian Angel Homes in Lewiston where she had been a resident since October 2010.
She was the oldest daughter of Carl E. and Sarah Alice McCorkle Bowles having been born in Craigmont June 30, 1916.
As a young girl she liked to spend time on the Little Salmon River with her grandparents, James and Rozella Yarbrough McCorkle. She was a good swimmer and it was not unusual for her and her friends to swim across the Snake and Clearwater rivers often during the summer. She also liked playing baseball.
She attended Lapwai grade school and Lewiston High School. She was a hard worker and did house cleaning when she was in her teens. She loved clothes and spent most of her money being fashionable.
On Sept. 12, 1936, she and Earl Myers were married
and shared a love of dancing, camping and fishing for 36 years.
During the '40s, she worked in the box factory at Weyerhauser, and later C.C. Anderson's. A move to Asotin put her working for Bob and Thais Spickard at the grocery store. In 1950, Earl was transferred to Craigmont by McMonigle Chevrolet. Velma worked with him doing books and selling appliances.
She was a gifted knitter and gave knitting lessons while in Craigmont. She enjoyed belonging to bridge club and entertaining. Velma was a gourmet cook.
The Chevrolet garage closed in 1958 and they moved to Lewiston, where she managed Hughes dress shop and later was credit manager at J.C. Penney's. She enjoyed bowling and was on a team of Penney's employees for several years.
In 1959, Earl won a trip to the Bahamas and they enjoyed it very much.
Earl died suddenly in May 1972. She met an old acquaintance, Seeley Allen, and they married
in September 1973.
At this point she retired from Penney's, and she and Seeley started wintering in Southern California where they enjoyed golf and making new friends. They bought a 24-foot camper and loved going to the North Fork and camping on Weitas Creek. Her favorite camp was Three Rivers, and she had a special "hole" on the Lochsa where she always caught her limit. Seeley passed away in August 2007.
Velma is survived by two daughters, Ula Rae and Gary Moser of Lewiston, and Marilyn and Bob Nelson of Bellevue, WA; eight grandchildren, Kelly and Trent Dibble of Bothell, WA, Kerry Moser of Colton, Marilee and Dave Finney of Coeur d'Alene, Mitch Moser of Lewiston, George and Jackie Moser of Kent, WA, Molly Powell of Lewiston, Lance and Kristina Nelson of Bellevue, and Stephanie and Dan Moen of Sandpoint; great-grandchildren, Ryan Dibble of Manhattan, NY, Chris Dibble of Savannah, GA, Ben Jacobs stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, AZ, Kevin, Kensi and Clay Finney of Coeur d'Alene, Jacob and Allie Powell of Lewiston, Jonah and Caleb Moser of Kent, Ty and Ashby Nelson of Bellevue, and Ben and Nathan Moen of Sandpoint; and her sister, Geraldine (Ann) Hermann of Lewiston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Earl Myers and Seeley Allen; brothers, Jim, L' Wayne, Harold and Francis Bowles; and a sister, Betty Lou Taylor.
We greatly appreciate the wonderful care given to our mom by Guardian Angel Homes. You are the best! Also a very special thank you to Loretta Gietler and Irene Williams her caregivers before going to Guardian Angel Homes. Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home of Lewiston is in charge of the graveside service to be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Normal Hill cemetery in Lewiston.

Sharon Sue Weber, 56, formerly of Clearwater County
Sharon passed on to be with loved ones in heaven on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011. She was born May 5, 1954, in Pomeroy, WA to Ed and Sue Smith.
She lived in Headquarters for five years before moving to Lewiston, where the family lived for eight years and then they returned to Headquarters. She attended grade school in Lewiston, Headquarters and Pierce, and high school at Timberline High School in Pierce. Sharon went on to complete two years at Walla Walla Community College, Clarkston Center, majoring in computer technology.
Sharon fell in love with Jim Weber and they were married
Sept. 23, 1972. They lived in various places of the region and settled in Lewiston.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarkston, WA.
Sharon loved spending all the time that she could with her grandchildren, caring for them and making things for them. She was also very musical. Being outdoors, camping, riding four-wheelers and picking mushrooms and huckleberries were among a few of her favorite things to do - even though she never made it back to the car with many berries.
Surviving Sharon are her husband, Jim Weber of Lewiston; daughter, Margie and Sean, and Jamie Weber; son, Josh and Mandi Weber; parents, Ed and Sue Smith; brothers, Ted and Lorrie Smith, and Dan and Terri Smith; eight grandchildren, Rusty, Janie, Kelsey, James, Sammy, Abbi, Graci and Jaron; and many nieces and nephews.
"Sissy" was a one-of-a-kind, special person and we will all miss her dearly.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1107 14th St. in Clarkston, with the Rev. David Naumann officiating.

Charles 'Scott' Lefferts, 49, Weippe
Charles 'Scott' Lefferts went to be with his Lord, on Aug. 25, 2011. He got his strength and courage to fight the battle of cancer from his Lord. He never lost his sense of humor during this time.
Scott was born Dec. 17, 1961 to Charles and Judith Lefferts. He was raised in Weippe. On July 26, 1986, he married
Kathy Olson. They loved each other and were "stuck" together like glue.
Scott loved to hunt, fish, listen to music and spend many special hours with his family and friends.
Scott is survived by his wife Kathy; his mother, Judith; sisters, Juanita and Wayne Gash, Tracy and Todd Stuffing; nephew Derek Reagan; and niece, Darci Reagan.
When Scott married
Kathy his family grew to include Billy, Jolean, and Karen Olson, John and Sue Wyatt, Nikki and Chad Towslee, Kacey, Chris, and Olivia Cagle and Mindy, Fred, and Wyatt Michaelscheck.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Charlie Lefferts; grandparents, Elsie Allen, John Lefferts, Cecil Allen, Irene Diebel, Ernie Diebel; and father-in-law, Billy Olson.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday Sept. 3, at the Weippe Wesleyan Church.

Ward Lee Frost, 94
Ward Lee Frost, 94 of Grangeville passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011 at the Grangeville Health and Rehab. Center not far from where he was born on a homestead in 1916 on the Joseph Plains near Boles to Joseph and Myrtle Lee Hanks Frost.
Ward was the third from the youngest of nine brothers and three sisters; he attended Spring Camp School riding a horse with Cassie Cox Warren until he got his own pony "Shorty".
His father worked away from the homestead a lot so the family shared in running the ranch. Clarence, the second to oldest, took care of the stock. His mother ran a "tight ship" as dad said. They all packed pails and loaded water barrels on the pack string and hauled water for the garden. Their livelihood depended on the garden.
Some winters they would drive the stock, load all the kids in a wagon and come spend the winter at Ward's grandparents place on Sunnyside up out of Lenore. Come spring, they would head up and over the Gifford Grade.
The family spent some time in Pendleton, OR, where Ward's father worked for a natural gas plant. Ward's father was killed in a gas leak on July 3, 1925. The family brought their father home and buried him in Normal Hill. They sold the homestead and moved to Lewiston Orchards on Preston where his nephew Dale Frost and niece Rhonda Frost still live.
Dad and Mom left the Red Bird Ranch and moved to town so dad could play baseball on the 1937 American Legion Team and he worked as a bartender at Canner's Inn. That never lasted, farming and ranching was in his blood, so back to Red Bird. Dad took the first Census and rode all the back country of Waha and back to the Salmon River on mom's horse Rocky. They covered a lot of miles. He said, he made about $400 and that was a lot of money. They left the farm in 1946 and bought the White Pine Bar in Weippe, and sold it in 1948 and moved to Orofino and mom and dad divorced. In 1951 Ward married
Shirley Anthony and took in five kids, in 1951 he had a son, his only son, Jack.
Shirley died in March of 1961; he then married
Betty Lindstrom and family of seven. She passed away in 1992 in Nezperce, so he moved up to St. Maries and lived for 10 years with his daughter Sharon. They enjoyed hunting Floodwood together, camping and fishing. He raised his garden with Sharon.
He knew his days were shorter, as he said, and moved to Woodland to spend time with his son Jack. His health got worse and he entered the nursing home in Grangeville.
Dad loved his grandsons, Dee Peterschick of Plaza, Richard Priebe, Jess Matthis and Wade Matthis of Elk River, Danny, Jim and David Frost. He had a good time fishing and hunting with them. He loved his step grandkids and was "Gramp" to them all. He got real proud of his first born great great grandkids, Sarah, Libby, Hunter, Ashton, Jose and Maddie.
Dad has friends far and wide. He loved to tell a good story! We will miss you Dad! So tell some good one's up there and we will all meet again.
He leaves 4 grown children, 16 grand children, 20 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren and lots of step grandkids and great step kids.
At his request no services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home of Grangeville.
