Dana Ann Alberts, 35
Dana Ann Alberts, loving wife and mother passed from this world and returned to the arms of our Lord on Oct. 18, 2010 at the age of 35.
Dana was born on Aug. 13, 1975 to Edson Earl Stewart and Regina Ann Brooks in Ogden, UT. Dana grew up in a family of two brothers and two sisters and always wanted a big family of her own.
Dana met and fell in love with her husband, William, when they both worked as State Corrections Officers at the Idaho Correctional Institution-Orofino. They began their life together as husband and wife on July 18, 2001. Dana always told people that she met her husband in prison and always got really strange looks. Dana would get a big laugh and then explain that they worked at the prison together.
Dana always wanted to help people throughout her life and in her last few years, she decided she wanted to become a nurse. She had planned to start school in the winter quarter at Lewis-Clark State College.
Dana is survived by her husband, William Alberts; children, Emily Ann Hathaway (Wyoming), Katita Hurley (New York), Quincy and Shyanne Hurley (Lenore); parents, Edson Stewart (Utah), Reggie and Rick Hutchins (Utah); brothers, Edson (Jennifer) Stewart (Missouri), Clinton Stewart (Utah); sister, Crystal Saravia (Utah); brother-in-law, Robert (Debbie) Alberts (Orofino); Grandma Jennie Stewart (Nevada); Grandma Deloris Brooks (California); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dana was preceded in death by her Grandpa Edson Stewart and Grandpa Lynn Brooks.
Donations may be made at Potlatch No.1 Federal Credit Union or Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in her name.

Harla Mae Matson, 76, Orofino
Our Mom lost her life to cancer on Oct. 20, 2010.
She was born to Charles and Stila Harlan Gleason In Orofino on April 28, 1934.
Mom graduated from Orofino High School in 1952. After graduation, she worked as a flunky in the logging camps on the North Fork. Mom married
our Dad, Gerald Matson on Oct. 31, 1955.Mom worked as a waitress at the Fountain and the Ponderosa, housekeeper at the White Pine Motel and for School District #171 as a cook and server until 2008.
Mom is survived by sons, Kurt of Lewiston, Scott and Kevin of Orofino; daughter, Connie Yates of Orofino and the light of her life grandson, Haydn Matson of Orofino; and sisters, Carolyn Mattson and Elaine Rinehart, both of Orofino.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
As per Mom's request, no services will be held. There will be a potluck for family and friends Nov. 6, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Scott Matson home, 654 Grangemont Rd., Orofino.

John Carson Miles, 98, Weippe
John Carson Miles, 98, of Weippe, closed the final chapter of his life on Wednesday Oct. 20, 2010, in Orofino.
John was born July 8, 1912, in Weippe, the youngest of six children born to Charles and Sarah Dereberry Miles.
He grew up on the family farm on the Weippe Prairie and attended school at the Wilson school on the Prairie and the Weippe Grade School. When John was a teenager his family moved from the ranch to Clarkston, WA. John graduated from Clarkston High School in 1931.
Jan. 12, 1935, John married
Vivian Lucile Frey at Lewiston. The couple celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in January 2010. They had one son Grant Miles.
As a young man, John worked for the CCC and in the woods, and hauling poles. He spent a brief time working for Boeing in Seattle, WA after which he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
John and Vivian returned to Weippe in1942, where he again worked in the woods and the lumber mills for the next few years. He was also a school bus driver.
The couple purchased the Jacobson Ranch on the Weippe Prairie bordering the place of his birth and childhood. They spent the next 40 years operating their dairy farm, "Whispering Pines Ranch" in partnership with their son Grant, on the Prairie. John had a passion for caring for and doctoring his livestock, often spending more time at the barn than at the house.
He was chosen Clearwater County Grassman of the Year in 1967. In 1992 He and Vivian were bestowed the honor of grand marshals of the Weippe Rodeo.
John and Vivian retired in 1993 when they sold their dairy herd. John had made his home at Brookside Landing in Orofino the past seven years.
A great outdoorsman, John was an avid hunter and enjoyed the mountains, especially the Austin Ridge area, where he set up his hunting camps.
A lover of music John, played the harmonica, and spent hours enjoying Vivian's musical talents on the piano and organ. He was always easy to locate as you could hear him whistling a merry tune as he went about his chores, often running from place to place.
He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially the four generations of his family working and playing together on the ranch. He was a great supporter of his grandson's sporting events especially track. He attended their track meets all around the area, including state competition which, as an Idaho Dairy Association member, he helped to sponsor.
John is survived by his wife, Vivian, residing at Brookside Landing in Orofino; his son and daughter-in-law Grant and Sharon Miles of Weippe; grandsons, Russel and Cindy Miles of Weippe, Randal Miles of Hollywood, CA, Robert and Susie Miles of Maupin, OR, and Ryan and Elissa Miles of Bend, OR. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren - Jonathan, Christina, Emily and Jeremy Miles of Weippe, Holly and Jack Miles of Maupin, OR, and Cash Miles of Bend, OR; a niece, Janet Hodge, and a nephew, Donald Dean Hall of Seattle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Dale, Delbert, Virgil, and Cecil Miles, one sister, Veda Lusk, and a grandson, Grant David Miles.
A memorial celebration of John's life will be held at the Weippe Wesleyan Church, at 3 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 24.

Darrell LeRoy Lannigan, 89, drew Dworshak powerhouse blueprints
Darrell LeRoy Lannigan, of Lewiston, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at the Life Care Center in Lewiston. He was 89.
He was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Smith County, KS, to Ralph LeRoy and Myrtle Jackson Lannigan. His father was a corn farmer and owned half-interest in an automobile dealership.
In August 1930, at the start of the Great Depression, the family moved to Idaho, living at times in Caldwell, Porthill and Curlew. For a time, the family lived in East Wenatchee, WA, and worked picking apples. In 1931, the family settled in Bonners Ferry where Darrell attended school. He graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1940, then attended Idaho State University at Pocatello. There he studied forestry and surveying.
In October 1940, he met Marie Kerpa of Buhl, who was also a student at ISU. They married
June 27, 1941, in Longview, WA.
Darrell enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in November 1943 and was called up Dec. 23. He went to basic training in Amarillo, TX, then attended college for three and a half months, and then preflight school in San Antonio, TX.
They returned to Bonners Ferry in 1945. In September 1948, Darrell moved with his family to Inglewood, CA. Darrell attended Northrup Technical Institute and took aeronautical engineering, graduating in 1950. He went to work for North American Aviation as a design engineer, manufacturing engineer and troubleshooter for the production line. In July 1954, they moved to Palmdale, CA, where Darrell worked at Edwards Air Force Base until 1957. In 1957, he went to work for Rocketdyne, a division of North American Rockwell. In 1959, he worked on the Saturn 5 rocket engine that sent man to the moon.
They lived in Saugus, later called Valencia, from 1963 to 1967. In 1967, he moved to Reno, NV, until July. He then moved to Lewiston, where he drew the blueprints for the powerhouse at Dworshak Dam.
In the fall of 1971, he went back to California to work for Lockheed as an electrical engineer on the L-1011 TriStar. In 1972, he went to Yuma, AZ, to work on the Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne helicopter. In 1973, he went to school for an equivalent degree in anti-submarine warfare electronics. He finished in November 1973 and joined Lockheed's fleet introduction team. In the late 1970s, Darrell lived and worked on the aircraft carriers USS Kitty Hawk and USS Enterprise, where he was in charge of the S-3A Viking submarine chaser. In 1980, Darrell and Marie moved to Subic Bay, Philippines, where he worked as Lockheed's representative for all Southeast Asia.
They returned to Lewiston in 1984 and in 1985, Darrell worked for three months in Burbank, CA, on the stealth fighter plane. At that time, he retired to Lewiston.
He enjoyed the hobbies of woodworking, shortwave radio and fishing with his son.
Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Lannigan; parents Ralph and Myrtle Lannigan; brother, Arden Lannigan; and sister, Nada Fredericksen.
He is survived by his sister, Donna Robinson, of Spokane, WA; brother, Larry Lannigan, of Caldwell; daughter, Roxanna Lannigan of Lewiston; son, Darrell Craig Lannigan and wife, Linda of Lewiston; grandsons, Jesse, Cameron and Clayton Lannigan of Spokane; granddaughter, Lisa Lannigan of Seattle, WA; and two great-granddaughters.
He will be buried alongside his wife Marie at Normal Hill cemetery in Lewiston. A graveside service was conducted. Family and friends met afterward at Craig and Linda's home.

James J. Dugger, 88, Orofino
James Jerome Dugger, 88, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, of respiratory failure.
He was born to James Patterson and Minnie Christina Dugger on March 30, 1922, the youngest of seven brothers and two sisters. He was born at home on the Camas Prairie near Craigmont. Tragically, his mother died when Jim was 8 years old and his father died when he was 13.
He spent much of his youth living with his older brothers and sisters or boarding at the Winchester Hotel while attending a one-room school at Pine Grove and graduating from Winchester High School in 1942.
As a laborer, Jim helped build the naval base at Farragut. He then joined the U.S. Navy and received training at Farragut graduating as a Hospital Corpsman, 2nd Class, on Feb. 12, 1943. By August, he was in Brisbane, Australia, at a submarine base. He spent the next two years in the Asiatic Pacific. He enjoyed his deployment in the Philippines, as the people were appreciative of American support. On Christmas Day 1945, he was honorably discharged from the Navy.
He returned to the Winchester area and was employed as a woods worker, construction supervisor on the railroad and mill worker at Madison Lumber Company at Grangeville and Nezperce. Most of his career was with the Idaho Transportation Department where he retired after more than 29 years as a maintenance foreman in the Orofino area.
Jim married
Margaret May Leachman on March 5, 1946. They celebrated their 64th anniversary this year. Both of them enjoyed supporting the community through various activities such as, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H, Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star Lodge, Community Credit Union Boards and Orofino Peck United Methodist Church. In later years, Jim and Margaret volunteered for RSVP doing various jobs.
His wife and three children and spouses survive him, Mike and Carol Dugger of Orofino, Donna and Bob Peters of Bloomington, IL, and Clayton and Jodel Dugger of Orofino.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jessica Barron, Luke Dugger and Jeff Dugger of Orofino; Logan Dugger of Lewiston; Michelle Smart of Bloomington, IL; Darin House of Peoria, IL; and Jennifer Fitzgerald of St. Maries.
Jim also has six great grandchildren: Hannah and Paige Dugger and Tyler and Katie Jo Barrin of Orofino and Caden and Emma Fitzgerald of St. Maries.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Andrew Dugger, Bill Dugger, Lester Dugger, Blanche Ahlers, John Dugger, Cecil Dugger, Blanda Dell and Marshall Dugger.
Jim never met a stranger. He loved life, family and friends and the beauty of the world around him.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Orofino Peck United Methodist Church at 337 College Ave. in Orofino. Dinner will be provided by the United Methodist Women following the service.
