LaVeta 'Beatie' Grimm, 94, Lewiston
LaVeta 'Beatie' Grimm, 94, of Lewiston, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Life Care Center in Lewiston. She was born Dec. 19, 1915, in Cambridge to Lon Beck and Georgia Sullivan Beck. She graduated from Orofino High School in 1935.
Beatie married
Marlie H. Grimm in February 1942. He preceded her in death Dec. 9, 2004. After marrying, the couple moved to Seattle, WA for a few years before coming back to Lewiston, where they lived the rest of their lives. They owned and operated Marlie's Market Basket, and then she went to work at Miller's and the Idaho Department Store.
She lived at Life Care Center in Lewiston for the past five years and the family would like to extend its sincere gratitude for the special care she received from the staff.
Beatie loved camping and was a fantastic holiday baker. She especially enjoyed her family and loved helping care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent as much time with her family and friends as she could, enjoying good food and the outdoors.
She is survived by two sons, Lonnie and wife Shirley Grimm of Clarkston, WA and Bob and wife Karyn Grimm of Coeur d'Alene; grandchildren, Neile and husband, Dennis Crew, of Grangeville, and Scott and Samantha Grimm of Parker, CO; great-grandchildren, Cody, Carly, Camron, Carson, Aaron and Elijah; brother Roy Beck, of Clarkston; sister Vi Devlin, of Lewiston; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Preceding Beatie in death were husband Marlie; sisters Edna, Alma, Carol and Dode; and brother Billy Beck.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Stanislaus Church in the social room, with Jim Minnette officiating. Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home of Lewiston is handling arrangements.
Memorial donations are suggested to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Grangeville.

Fredrick William Altmiller, 85, Orofino, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010 in Lewiston.

Burton 'Burt' Douglas Young, 83, born in Elk River
Burton 'Burt' Douglas Young, 83, was born to Louis Herbert Young and Edith Mary Paine on Sept. 12, 1926, in Elk River. He passed away Friday, April 9, 2010, at his Lewiston home.
Burt met Rose Marie Cone at the University of Idaho and wooed her in his red convertible with a date for a caramel apple. He and Rose married
Sept. 9, 1950.
He graduated with a bachelor's degree in business management. Burt remained a loyal and enthusiastic Vandal, a tradition that has continued with his children and grandchildren.
Following graduation from UI, Burt purchased Burt's 66 Service Station in Moscow, which he sold after a year. He and Rose moved to Lewiston, where Burt began his 30-year career with Potlatch Corp. (now Clearwater Paper). He retired at age 58 as the manager of the purchasing department, but remained a purchasing agent in his heart.
He frequently brought home treasures in his ventures about town. He particularly enjoyed collecting and trading guns.
Burt had a wonderful sense of humor. He became well known in his family and circle of friends for his witty anecdotes, which came to be known as "Burtisms".
Burt served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 15, 1944, to Dec. 4, 1946, during the Philippine liberation. He was honored with the Bronze Service Star, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
Through his life he was a member of the Elks Lodge, Masonic Temple, the Gun Club and the National Rifle Association.
He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, flying his plane, boating, dancing and traveling. He and his family built a cabin on Lake Coeur d'Alene, and enjoyed many summers there with family and friends.
Surviving Burt are his wife, Rose Marie Young of Lewiston; son, Jeffry Young and his wife Nancy of Lewiston; daughter, Jan Young Van Slyke and her husband Howard; grandchildren, Shaelee Kay Young, Michelle Freand, Lacy Hamilton, Flenna Hamilton, Caleb John and Tristan Burton, and Brandon and Heather Van Slyke; great-grandchildren, Gracie, Mikayla, Kade, Aron, Treyton and Ashly; and niece, Kathleen Young.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Louis Young, and a brother, Vernon Young.
Memorial services are at 3 p.m. Friday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston.
June George Adams Scoles, 85, formerly of Orofino
June George Adams Scoles, 85, of Lewiston, was born June 20, 1924, at Culdesac to Frank and Edna George. She was the fifth child of seven children. The family moved to Orofino, where she attended the Blake School at Harmony Heights.
June graduated from Orofino High School in May 1942, and later that year she married
Morris J. Adams. Shortly thereafter, Morris left for Europe during World War II. After his return from the war Morris worked in the logging industry and June managed the household and raised three children. In 1957, she became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In 1960, June started licensed practical nurse training at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino. She worked as a floor nurse and later as a "top-notch surgical nurse," according to her daughter-in-law.
Morris passed away in a farming accident in 1967 and June continued to work at Clearwater Valley Hospital for a few more years. She later took a job as a safety nurse at Dworshak Dam. After working at the dam for a few years, she worked at North Side Medical Center in Orofino for Dr. Robert Hill.
In 1988, June married
Wes Scoles and lived in Lewiston. They enjoyed square dancing at various venues. Wes passed away in 1991 after just three years of marriage. After Wes' death June enjoyed going to Quartsite, AZ, where she continued to square dance and even rode in a hot air balloon.
She continued to live in Lewiston until her passing Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Guardian Angel Homes.
Some organizations she belonged to were: 4-H leader, Beta Sigma Phi, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles, Moose and the Pautler Senior Center.
Her hobbies included quilting, stained glass, crocheting, square dancing and round dancing.
June is survived by a brother, Dale George of Elk City; a sister, Lois Dumbald of Missoula, MT.; her children, David Adams and his wife Judy of Lewiston, Laura Heaton and her husband Michael of Clarkston, WA, and Susan Gorton and her husband Terry of Rathdrum; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are at 1 p.m. Friday at the Weisman cemetery in Orofino. There will be a reception following the services at the LDS Ward Building on Fremont Ave. in the Riverside area of Orofino.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in her name to the Alzheimer's Organization for the Pautler Senior Center in Clarkston.

Robert Charles Gransbury, 79, Orofino, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino.

Dale 'Fonzie' Fackenthall, 70 Ahsahka
Thomas Dale Fackenthall went to be with the Lord on Sept. 25, 2010. He was born to Tom and Mamie Fackenthall on Sept. 26, 1939 in Orofino.
He was raised in Ahsahka, left home to serve in the Navy before returning back home. He drove logging truck for numerous companies in the area. He retired in 2001 and enjoyed running around and playing in the shop at Hammer Down Wood Products. He also enjoyed it when he would chair the AA meetings and in October he would have had 10 years sobriety.
Dale is survived by his wife Jean of Ahsahka, daughters, Vickie Stephenson of Post Falls and Kathy Hunt of Ahsahka; grandson, Stacy (Scrooge) Hunt of Ahsahka; and sister, Wilma Kliensmith of Coeur d'Alene; and numerous family and friends that knew him by Grandpa or Fonzie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ila, and brother, Dave.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time.

Pat Lewis Farmer, 73, Weippe
Pat Lewis Farmer, 73, Weippe, formally of Lewiston, passed away peacefully at his son's home in Lewiston on Sept. 13, 2010 after a courageous five year battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25. A covered dish reception will follow in the Orchid room at Morgan's Alley. He will be interred at the Fraser cemetery at a later date.
The oldest of two boys, Pat was born May 5, 1937 at Fort Sumner, NM to Ina and R.C. Farmer. At the age of eight he moved with his father to the Weippe area where he grew up and attended school at the Wilson Creek School House and later Weippe High School.
He married
Carol Ann Shirk in January of 1961 in Pierce. They had two children, Debbie and Loyd. The marriage ended in divorce in 1966. He later married
Judy Dancy in Lewiston on Aug. 25, 1972. The marriage also ended in divorce on Jan. 1, 2003.
Being multi-talented, Pat worked in various saw mills in the Weippe area including Cardiff and Johnson mills. He then moved his family to Lewiston in 1964 and began his long career as a diesel mechanic working at Paffile Trucking Lines. In 1972 he went to work for Industrial Parts and Machine which later became Tisco until he was recruited by Bud Wenstrom in 1983 to work at Poe Asphalt and worked there until his retirement in 1999.
Pat was a proud member of many organizations including the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, National Rifle Association and American Motorcycle Association. He was passionate about his hobbies including his guns, Harley-Davidson motorcycles and working with young people. Pat was quite a marksman. He was knowledgeable about his guns and promoted the interest by crafting and firing Wildcat Target Rifles. He belonged to the Banana Belt Cruisers and rode Harleys until his right knee just couldn't take to starting the "Old cold Hogs". He spent many years supporting the Nez Perce County Rabbit 4-H program, donating hundreds of hours helping kids build cages and hutches. Pat was the dedicated chauffeur; taking exhibitors to American Rabbit Breeders Association shows and competitions. Driving all night and sleeping in the pickup during the show, Pat would take any group of kids interested in showing and/or learning more about rabbits.
Pat spent his last years residing in Weippe at the family ranch watching deer and elk; feeding his hummingbirds and restoring hit and miss motors to show at fairs and community events throughout Northern Idaho and Eastern Washington. Because of his appreciation for nostalgia, Pat's hit and miss motors brought education and entertainment to people of all ages. He was a longtime member of the Lewis and Clark Antique Motor Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie and Harold Matthews of Coeur d' Alene, their two daughters Angela and Trisha; his son, Loyd Farmer and his three daughters, Christine, Cera, and Katrina of Lewiston; his mother, Ina Twitchell of Anchorage, AK; half-sister, Shirley Twitchell and son Brandon of Palmer, AK and half-sister, Donna Epstein and her three children of Chicago, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father, R.C. Farmer and his brother, Walter Farmer.
The family suggests memorials to St. Joseph Family Hospice 1205 Idaho St. Lewiston, Idaho or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Victor James 'Jim' Wilson, 65, Orofino
Victor James 'Jim' Wilson, 65 passed away Sept. 19, 2010 in Orofino.
Born in the Burns Building on Victory over Japan "VJ" Day, Aug. 15, 1945, Orofino, Jim was the third of four boys born to Bernard T. 'Barney' and Margaret J. 'Midge' Wilson. He graduated from Orofino High School in 1963. Jim was active in football, basketball and baseball, lettering in all three sports.
He married
Peggy Oylear, Feb. 14, 1964. Two children were born in this marriage, Rhonda L. and James D. 'J.D.'. The marriage later ended in divorce.
He married
Evelyn Phillips, Sept. 7, 1974, helping raise her children and loving them as his own James G. 'Jim', Rory T. and Robbie I. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Jim worked for Standard Oil and Napa, but spent most of his life employed with Potlatch Forest Industries at their Jaype Plant in Pierce. More recently he was self-employed with Wilson's Handyman Service.
Jim was Clearwater County Commissioner from 1985-1997 and served as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners the last four years. He was an active member of the Lolo Trail Society and the Clearwater Resource Coalition, helping build bridges, gazebos and trails.
Jim loved to dance, ride horses and 4-wheelers, hunt and make things with his hands. He was a passionate man of values and deep convictions and would talk/debate politics at the drop of a hat.
Jim was preceded in death by his father and brother Bernard A. 'Buster'.
He is survived by his mother; brothers, Simon G. 'Skip' and Michael J. 'Jack'; his special friend and traveling companion, Kathie Wiegant; his children: Rhonda L. and husband, Garett of Everson, WA, James D. 'J.D.' and wife, Anja of Custer, WA, James G. 'Jim' and wife, May of Suscian, CA; Rory T. of Fontana, CA, and Robbie I. of Lewiston; and five grandchildren; Sharene, Shane, Sophia, Clarissa and Zach.
A memorial service will take place Friday, Sept. 24th at 11 a.m.. at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel, Orofino. A covered dish reception will follow at the Catholic Event Center.

Jack McCulley, 66, formerly of Orofino
Our son and brother, Jack McCulley, of Grangeville, passed away Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, from complications of a heart attack that occurred the previous week.
Born April 11, 1944, in Cottonwood, with the name James, his Uncle Muggs tagged him with the nickname Jack and it stuck forever more. The eldest son of Chloe Bentley and Marshall McCulley, he grew up on the family farm at Doumecq Plains. The family moved to Grangeville in 1958.
Jack graduated from Grangeville High School in 1962. He enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard in 1965 and served until 1971, earning the rank of sergeant.
The name Jack was appropriate as he was truly a jack-of-all-trades. He could repair and maintain just about anything mechanical. Childhood family stories tell about new toys at Christmas that he immediately dismantled to discover how they worked. As a young man, he worked in the grocery business in Grangeville, Lewiston and Orofino. He learned the meat-cutter's trade and worked many years for Howard's Meats. Later, Jack worked at Gortsema RV. He provided bartending services at a number of places around Grangeville, recently retiring from tending at The Establishment.
Idaho County was the perfect home for Jack as he so enjoyed fishing, hiking and being outdoors. He was on the board of directors for the Grangeville Gun Club and encouraged new shooters to try trapshooting. His mechanical skills kept the club's trap equipment running smoothly and his cooking skills assured the success of the club's annual fire pit beef dinner.
A marriage between Jack and Dorothy Corder ended in divorce. Survivors include his mother, Chloe McCulley; sister Wanda and Arie Koole of Grangeville; brother Wayne and Kathi McCulley of Lewiston; and his long-time friend, Deanna Mortenson. Preceding him in death were his father, Marshall McCulley, and sister, Janice Welke.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville, followed by a covered-dish luncheon at the Grangeville Gun Club. Jack would be honored by your contributions to the charity of your choice.
