Joan M. Thivierge, 69, Clarkston
Joan Mary Thivierge passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston, WA.
She was born April 15, 1939, at Ogdensburg, NY, to Earl Beebie and Sarah Behl Beebie. She attended St. Mary's Academy and Ogdensburg Free Academy.
Leo F. Thivierge and Joan M Beebie were married
Nov. 23, 1957, in Ogdensburg. They moved to Gouverneur, NY, for two years, then to Niagara Falls, NY, for one and a half years. They also lived in Page, AZ, for seven years, Oregon House, CA, for three years, and Ione, CA, for two years before settling in Clarkston for the next 37 years. Other places along the way were West Virginia, Nevada, Guri, Venezuela, and Israel. But the place they called home was Clarkston.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Lewiston-Clarkston-Orofino Bowling Association, REAC, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles Aerie 631. She took pride in watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all of their activities and sports. She was their biggest fan. She enjoyed bowling and spending her time volunteering wherever she was needed. Bingo and Bunko were her fun times!
Joan is survived by her husband, Leo F. Thivierge, of Clarkston; daughters Vicky and Allen Wall, Brenda Evans and Donna and Tharon Johnson, all of Clarkston, and Christine and Larrick Johnson of Brighton, TN.; sons Allen and Renee Thivierge of Clarkston and Brian and Laurie Thivierge, all of Clarkston, and James and Karla Thivierge of Lewiston; 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna Hoyt, and brother, Robert Beebie, both of New York.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Sarah Beebie; daughter, JoAnne Donna Thivierge; and brothers, Donald Beebie and Earl Beebie Jr.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held at Merchant Funeral home in Clarkston. Father Tom Connolly of Holy Family Catholic Church officiated.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Holy Family Catholic School in Clarkston.
Alice Marian Rung, 88, Orofino
Alice Marian Rung, 88, Orofino passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino.
A Memorial Mass and Rosary is planned Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Orofino.

Alvin Bloodsworth, 96, Orofino
Alvin Bloodsworth, 96, Orofino, passed away Feb. 5, 2009 at Clearwater Valley Hospital, Orofino.
He was born to Julian and Lori Bloodsworth Oct. 5, 1912 on Central Ridge near Peck.
As a young man he followed the rodeo circuits and excelled in bronco riding winning many awards.
He met Merle Whitney and they were married
Feb. 26, 1937.
Alvin logged in the Weippe area until he was severely injured in 1944. They moved to Clarkston, WA. Later he worked for Potlatch Mill after a lengthy convalescence. He and Merle moved to Peck in 1955 and settled into ranching. He was always proud of his Herford cattle. They retired in 1982 and moved to Orofino.
They went on many fishing trips and traveled abroad. They joined seniors at their camp outings and enjoyed their camping at Boulder Creek Campground. They were active with the local Senior Citizens and he was a member of R.S.V.P.
Merle passed away in 1993. He later married
Mary Pearsall. He was always busy in his vegetable garden and was proud of his nice irises.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Myron.
He is survived by his wife Mary, nephews: Lew and Jimmy Bloodsworth and their families, nieces Kathy Weldy and Nadine Anderson and their families, sister-in-law Maxine Owens, as well as step-children and step-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino with internment to follow at Riverside cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Orofino Senior Center or the charity of your choice.

Sharon Meeks Osborn, 68, OHS graduate
S. Criss Osborn (Sharon Meeks) passed away from cancer on Feb. 3, 2009, surrounded by family and friends in Montesano, WA. She was born on March 13, 1941 in San Jose, CA to Robert and Dorothy Criss.
Sharon attended Orofino High School and graduated in 1959. She was well known for her trumpet playing in the high school band and had many friends there. After high school she attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Spokane, WA and earned a degree as an RN. She worked at Sacred Heart as an operating room nurse with the open heart team. She also spent two years at the Rockwood Clinic.
In 1965 she moved to Grays Harbor, WA and continued her work as a nurse until her retirement in 1989. That same year she married
M. Doug Osborn at their home overlooking Lake Quinalt. They traveled all over the US and to other parts of the world.He passed away in 1999.
Sharon was known for her volunteer work in the Quinault area, including serving as an EMT (emergency medical technician) with the fire department and taking blood pressure for senior citizens.
She is survived by her son, Ryan and wife Liane, three grandchildren, and two brothers Mike and William Meeks.
Samuel Asher McLam, 17
Samuel Asher McLam was killed in a car accident on Feb. 6, 2009 on Coyote Grade in Nez Perce County and went to the beautiful snowy fields of heaven. He was a 17-year old senior at Moscow High School, was loved by all and will be missed by many.
Sam was born on May 13, 1991, son to Curtis and Shelley McLam and brother to Pat. Sam began racing snowmobiles at the age of eight, winning championships at all levels. Last year he won the Mountain West Racing Pro Championship title, an accomplishment he was very proud of. He played football all four years of high school and was planning on attending college in the fall.
Sam is survived by his parents, Curtis and Shelley McLam of Moscow; brother Patrick, of Moscow; grandparents Darrel and Barbara Brown of Clarkston, WA and grandmother, Sandra McLam of Lewiston; aunts and uncles: Julie (Brown) and Jim Daehn of Louisville, CO: Val (McLam) and Bob Black of Beaverton OR; Matt and Debbie McLam of Fairfield; Ed and Marcy McLam of Vancouver, WA; Jackie McLam of Lewiston; Scott and Sue McLam of Moscow; and Derek McLam of Moscow. He is also survived by numerous cousins.
Sam loved snowmobiling, motorcycle riding, hunting, friends and family. We will miss him with all our heart and soul and thank him for the ride. We wouldn't have missed it for anything.
There will be a viewing at Short's Funeral Chapel, 1225 East 6th Street, Moscow, on Monday from noon until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m at the Moscow Church of the Nazarene in Moscow. A covered dish dinner will follow at the Moscow Moose Lodge on Main St. and a private committal service will be held on Wednesday at the Three Pines cemetery at Elk River.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Elk River Search and Rescue, the Elk River Firework Fund or to the Elk River Food Bank.

Betty Walton, 89, born in Elk River
Betty Caswell Pearce Walton, 89, died peacefully on Jan. 30, 2009 at Aspen Park Healthcare in Moscow.
She was born to Ramsey Walker Pearce and Ruth Bangs Pearce on Feb. 15, 1919 in Elk River. Betty spent her formative years in several small towns in northern Idaho: She graduated from Wallace High School before moving to Moscow to work at Idaho First National Bank. There she met and worked with Charles Wesley Walton III whom she married
on June 11, 1943 in San Francisco, CA. During the following years she was employed by accountant Charles Flatt, and then worked until retirement for Neely's Travel Service in Moscow.
Betty was a wonderful seamstress who also knitted and crocheted beautiful sweaters and afghans for all her loved ones. For many years, she enjoyed the friendship and activities of Beta Sigma Phi, a social organization.
Charles (Chuck) and Betty spent several memorable Thanksgiving vacations on "The Big Island" of Hawaii before moving there after they retired. During the 15 years spent in Kailua-Kona, HI, she volunteered at the local Senior Center, donating her time to prepare tax returns for senior citizens.
After returning from Hawaii, she and Chuck enjoyed many trips with the Moscow Road Runners. They especially loved Canada-Banff, Radium Hot Springs and the annual Calgary Stampedes. Betty was an excellent pool player and, in Palm Springs, CA, she won the gold medal for pool in the 1994 Senior Olympics. Chuck and Betty were extremely devoted to each other and were blessed with 64 years of marriage before Chuck's death in 2007. She was also preceded in death by her sister Ruthie Cooney.
Betty is survived by a son, Chuck Walton IV and his wife Patty, and grandson Charlie Walton V, all of Kennewick, WA; and a sister Nancy Haverty of Fresno, CA.

Harold J. Tuschhoff, 83, Dworshak Dam construction worker
Harold Joseph Tuschhoff was born Feb. 19, 1925, to Joseph William Tuschhoff and Mary Gans Tuschhoff in Uniontown, WA where he also attended school.
In 1946, Harold married
Marie Hoorman in Genesee. They were married
for 16 years and had six children. For several years he worked on his father's farm outside of Uniontown.
In 1955, the family moved to Clarkston, where Harold was employed by Arden Dairy. He later worked for Lewiston Pre-Mix and in the construction of Hanford and Dworshak Dam.
As a young man, he enjoyed playing on the Uniontown town baseball team and semi-pro ball with the Lewis-Clark Baseball League, Seattle Rainiers and a Montana league. He was known for his fast, wild left-hand pitches. Harold's hobbies included shooting pool, trapshooting, playing golf, hunting arrowheads, fishing, playing cards and drinking coffee at Tom Smith's with friends. He enjoyed going to "church" at the casino with his companion, Alice Berreman.
Harold is survived by sons Dick Tuschhoff of Clarkston, WA and Bob Tuschhoff of Renton, WA; and daughters, Carolyn Ausman of Asotin, WA, Joanne Reagan of Clarkston and Mary Lynn Vorous of Coeur d'Alene. Grandpa Hal was so proud of his 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; son James Tuschhoff; sister, Virginia Howerton; and grandson, Christopher Ausman.
The family would like to thank Alice Berreman for her loving care of our dad for the last few years. They also thank Tri-State Memorial Hospital, Tri-State Owl Pharmacy and Dr. J. Mackay and staff for their caring assistance.
Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday, with a recitation of the rosary at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Father Thomas Connolly, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11th and Chestnut streets in Clarkston. A reception by the Ladies of Holy Family will follow at 11:30 at the Parish Center, 917 Chestnut St. At 2 p.m., inurnment will be at the Uniontown cemetery.

Glenn Charles Brown, 40 Orofino
Glenn C. Brown passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009 unexpectedly at his home in Orofino.
Glenn was born to George and Betty Gentry Brown in Spokane, WA Oct. 24, 1968.
He lived in Orofino graduating from Orofino High School in 1987. After graduation, he attended North Idaho College in Coeur D'Alene. He moved to Lewiston and attended Lewis-Clark State College. He met Rachael Mendenhall and they had two children Jacqlen and Linzy Brown. Their relationship ended in 1997. Glenn graduated from LCSC in 2004 receiving a Bachelors Degree in Science. Glen applied himself to a variety of jobs including: car salesman at Joe Hall Ford, the United States Forest Service, Clearwater Homes, DEBCO Construction and his current employment at Brandt Cedar Mill.
Glenn met Charlette Kestner in 2007. They became engaged to be married
Aug. 9, 2008 when in front of over 1000 people at a concert Glenn asked Charlette to marry him. They resided at their home on Upper Fords Creek with their children. Family being first and foremost to Glenn, he loved spending time with his family doing anything as long as they were together, especially in the outdoors.
Glenn was passionate about the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, paintball and boating. He was a real outdoors man regularly enjoying just being out in the woods, horn hunting and cutting fire wood. Both Glenn and Charlette were active members in the National Wild Turkey Federation.
Glenn is survived by his two daughter: Linzy Brown of Weippe, Jacqlen Brown of Orofino; his fiance, Charlette Kestner, her three children Mercy Kestner, Makael Bishop and Dominique Borgstrom of Orofino; his parents George and Betty Brown of Orofino; his sister and brother in-law: Lisa and Daniel Gunter of Orofino; and nephew and niece: Seth Russell and Allison Gunter both of Orofino.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Doc and Rosy Gentry; his grandpa Jack Brown and grandma Opal McIntosh.
Glenn will have two memorial services. One is being held at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel Friday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m. with inurnment to follow services at Riverside cemetery. A dinner will be held following burial at the Nez Perce Tribe Teweepuu Community Center 3402 U.S. Highway 12, Orofino. The second will be held by his fiance' Charlette Kestner Saturday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Orofino. A potluck dinner will follow at the church.

Gene Allan DeForest, 55, THS graduate
Gene Allan DeForest passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, in Clarkston, WA.
He was born Jan. 2, 1954, at Headquarters, to Harold and Beverly DeForest. He graduated from Timberline High School in 1972.
Gene served in the Marine Corps for 20 years and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, Camp Pendleton; Subic Bay; the Philadelphia Naval Yard; Liberia; Guantanamo Bay; and Okinawa. He was a staff sergeant and earned the Marine Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal with five stars, Combat Action Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal.
After retiring from the Marines, he moved to Clarkston in 1995. He worked for Ida-Vend Broadcasting until his death. He was a member of the Marine Corps League.
Survivors include his daughters, Melissa DeForest and Nicole DeForest, both of New Castle, DE.; a son, Ryan DeForest of Clarkston; his mother, Beverly Marshall of Clarkston; and two brothers, Layne DeForest of Nampa and Kent DeForest of Lewiston. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold (Frosty) DeForest.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lewiston. John Thomas will officiate at the service.
