Kristi Ann Ashby, 48, Sandpoint
Kristi Ann Ashby, 48, passed away, Sunday, October 19, 2003 in Sandpoint,Idaho. Private family services have been held.
Kristi was born on June 27, 1955 in Spokane, Washington to Jerry Farrar and Neal Fredstrom. She grew up in Sandpoint and attended Lincoln Elementary School through the 6th grade. The family moved to Sunnyside, Washington for a short time before relocating to Anchorage, Alaska, where she attended high school.
Kristi moved to Salt Lake City and raised her family there for eight years. She then moved back to Sandpoint in 1989.
She had quite a “green thumb,” and enjoyed gardening, knitting, and sketching.
She is survived by her son Jason Knight of Sandpoint, ID; daughters Deeana Welsh of Anchorage, AK and Alana Fagan of Laingsburg, MI; her mother Jerry Burrus of Anchorage, AK; grandmother Audrey Fredstrom of Sandpoint; a sister Heidi McCurtain and brother Mark Fredstrom both of Akchorage, AK; three grandchildren Derek Welsh and Chase Logan of Anchorage, AK and Anie Fagan Laingsburg, MI as well as numerous aunts and uncles and good friend Greg Otero of Sandpoint.
She was preceded in death by her father Neal Fredstrom, grandparents Malcolm Fredstrom and Grace LaMoreaux Stuart; and brother Paul Neal Fredstrom.
Memorial donations may be made to Bonner Community Hospice, P.O. Box 1448, Sandpoint, ID 83864.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint.

Shirley Debra Longden, 49, Hope
Shirley Debra Longden, 49, passed away peacefully at her home in East Hope, Idaho, Friday, October 3, 2003.
Private family services have been held.

Shirley was born on August 4, 1954 in Pasadena, California to Nels and Evelyn Johnson. She graduated from Duarte High School in 1972.
Shirley married Philip Longden on October 23, 1976 in Portland, Oregon. The couple moved to Sandpoint in 1978, where they built a homestead on undeveloped land in the Upper Gold Creek area and raised their daughter.
Shirley and Philip operated a home business from 1983 – 1994, building twig furniture. Shirley also worked at H&R Block, and from 1993 – 2003 at Coldwater Creek.
Shirley enjoyed gardening, home improvements, and was an avid fan of rock and roll.
She is survived by her husband Philip Longden and daughter Brittany Longden East Hope, ID; parents Nels and Evelyn Johnson Duarte, CA; brother Gary Johnson Spokane, WA
She was preceded in death by her sister Linda.
Memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen, Breast Cancer Foundation.

Margie Maria Farley, 49, Sandpoint
Margie Maria Farley, 49, passed away in Sandpoint, Thursday, September 25, 2003.
Private family services have been held.
Margie was born on October 29, 1953 in Pasadena, California to Rodney and Peggy Young. She grew up and attended schools in Azusa, California, graduating from Azusa High School.
Margie traveled extensively during her lifetime. She discovered North Idaho about six years ago, and fell in love with the people and communities. She spent most of her time in Sandpoint and Oldtown, and was very happy here.
Her hobbies included camping, walking, crafts, and attending church.
She is survived by her sisters Dolly Pollock of Marsing, ID; Lake Elsinore, CA; and Lorraine Young of Azusa, CA and her many friends in the Sandpoint community.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint.

Ralph Arthur Walters, 82, Cocolla
Ralph Arthur Walters, 82, of Cocolalla, Idaho, passed away, Monday, September 22, 2003 in Sandpoint, Idaho.
A memorial service and potluck will be held at 6:00 pm, Monday, September 29, 2003 at the Cocolalla Community Hall.
Ralph was born on June 18, 1921 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He grew up at Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Home in Wisconsin. He entered the United States Air Force in 1941 and served as a supply clerk until his retirement in 1963. Ralph then served a second career with the United States Postal Service in San Bernardino, California. He accepted an early retirement in 1977 and moved to Cocolalla.
Ralph was well known and appreciated in the Westmond and Cocolalla areas. He enjoyed reading, trivia, socializing, and arguing with his many friends
Ralph is survived by his special friend Nancy (Gene) Fitzgerald Westmond, ID and his many friends in the area.
Memorial donations may be made to Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Home, PO Box 7000, Boys Town, NE 68010.

Rodney Kenneth Johnson, 71, Noxon
Rodney Kenneth Johnson, 71, passed away, Friday, September 12, 2003 in Noxon, Montana. No services are scheduled at this time.
Rodney was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 3, 1932 to Glen and Maxine Johnson. As a child, Rodney’s family moved first to California and then to Washington state. His father passed away when Rodney was only 14 years old. He left school and began to work in order to help his mother support the family.
As a young man Rodney held several positions of authority in the construction business. He was drafted in to the United States Army on May 7, 1954. During his service he finished school, earned his degree as a master electrician, and became a First Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on May 5, 1956.
Rodney returned home to help his mother and sister. On August 10, 1958 he married Lois DeCourcy in Everett, Washington. He took a position as a salesman with Stark Vacuum. Eventually he became manager of the store, and worked there for twenty years until the store closed.
Rodney became the head of maintenance for many medical buildings in Seattle and Everett. He later moved up to being the head electrician of the medical-dental building in Seattle, where he remained until his retirement in 1994. He and Lois then moved to Noxon, Montana.
He enjoyed woodworking, including building model cars, and doll furnature.
He is survived by his wife Lois Johnson Noxon, MT; 3 sons Randy Johnson Noxon, MT; Danny (Heidi) Johnson Orting, WA; Scott (Pamela) Johnson Marysville, WA; 1 daughter Cheryl (Eric) King Yelm, WA; 1 sister Patricia Johnston Lynnwood, WA and 8 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother Ward Johnson.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home, Sandpoint, Idaho.

"Mayla" Patricia Ann Riley, 62, Sandpoint
"Mayla" Patricia Ann Riley, 62, passed away, Sunday, September 7, 2003 in Sandpoint, Idaho. Services are under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Sandpoint. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 20, 2003 at the Gardenia Center in Sandpoint with Charley Packard officiating.
Mayla was born on August 13, 1941 in Jamaica, New York to Myles and Marie Riley.
At an early age Mayla was blessed with the gifts of sight and healing. She turned these gifts into an extensive career of helping others. She acted as a spiritual healing therapist, teaching and changing the lives of many friends and clients she met on her extensive travels in the United States and around the world.
Mayla’s twenty years in psychic and spiritual healing includes co-founding Biotonics Healing Institute in San Francisco and Marin County, California; practicing Reichian therapy and iridology; studies with the Dalai Lama’s physician and healer in Nepal and India; Sufism; gem therapy and Shiatsu.
She has worked as a consultant to other healers and professionals, including Gestalt and primal therapists, MD’s, psychiatrists, naturopaths and spiritual teachers. She has taught psychic healing and humanistic psychology classes at Sonoma State, San Francisco; and metaphysical centers in India and Bali. She has served as an adviser for Ph.D. candidates in humanistic psychology and parapsychology at Sonoma State, California.
Her work as a member of the Board of Directors for GENESIS, a scientifically oriented, holistic center, included extensive testing of psychic, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healings. The Center also provided expanded biofeedback equipment as well as rebirthing sessions in one of John Lilly’s first isolation tanks.
Her healing practice in Bali was accompanied by her training and service in the field of psychic surgery. She continued this practice in India, Nepal, and Holland. For 13 years Mayla has maintained a private practice as a psychic counselor and spiritual healer.
Mayla moved to Sandpoint about four years ago after her house burned down on the Washington coast. She enjoyed her spirituality, people, traveling, and her dog Mahala.
She is survived by her mother Marie Riley Potomac, MD; 2 sisters Kathy Shea Rockville, MD; Suzi Riley Wallingford, PA, She was preceded in death by her father, Myles.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home, Sandpoint, Idaho.
