Dennis J. Powell, Sr., 58,
Dennis J. Powell, Sr. passed away May 18, 2008 at home in the loving arms of his family.
He was born May 29, 1950 in Martinez, CA the third child of Albert and Josephine Powell. He spent his early childhood years in the Lodi and Sacramento area where his family was involved with crop dusting. Later they moved to Weippe where he attended school and worked for his fathers logging operation. He grew up learning from his beloved grandfather Dewey Powell.
In 1973, he married
Dianna Rider and had four children, Michelle, Amanda, Stephanie and Denise. In 1978 he married
Rosetta Price and had two children, Dennis Jr. and Victoria Rose. He also raised a step-daughter Rose Marie Broncheau.
He married
Kelly Woodward in 1995 and helped to raise her daughter, Astra Val Williams.
Dennis worked in the woods the majority of his life, primarily as a loader operator and truck driver, but also ran cat, skidder and all things mechanical. He worked for Henson and Wunderlich out of Orofino for many years, also Gene Swift logging out of Lewiston and others.
He owned and operated several trucks and self loaders that he built from the ground up and hauled logs for many independent contractors in the area. Ten years ago Dennis changed occupations and developed a scrap metal recycling business with the help and support of his friend Tony Sutton. He and his son worked for many municipalities and businesses throughout the northwest.
Dennis had a passion for his work and the camaraderie found on all of his jobs. He loved the challenges found in solving mechanical problems as evidenced by his many projects and ambitions. He enjoyed life immensely, his enthusiasm and cheerfulness was contagious. He was always ready with a story or anecdote and loved to make friends and get to know people.
Dennis battled pancreatic cancer for the last three years of his life. His display of grace and determination, grit and fortitude will leave a lasting impression on all of us who spent time with him during his illness.
He is survived by his wife Kelly and her daughter Astra; his son, Jay and wife Joni, grandchildren Nick and David, daughter, Victoria and her husband Steve, granddaughter Megan, his daughters, Michelle, Amanda, Stephanie and Denise, their husbands and children; his mother Josephine; his sister and brother in law, Victoria and Cole Clark; his sister, Debbie and a nephew Shane Wilson.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, his brother, David, and his step-daughter, Rose Marie.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at Shorts Funeral Home in Moscow, followed by a graveside service at the Pinecrest cemetery in Deary. All are welcome to a potluck gathering immediately following the burial at the Lion's community center in downtown Troy.

Everett Fenton Freeman, Sr. 85, Orofino
May 16, 2008, Everett Fenton Freeman, Sr. passed peacefully due to complications of age.
He was born May 7, 1923 to Harley F. and Elizabeth Dhabalt Freeman in Dallas, Iowa, the 8th of 11 children. Due to the death of both his parents at a young age, he and his siblings were raised by his elder brother, John. Everett developed his excellent work ethics at a very young age and carried that through his life and passed these incredible traits on to his children and grandchildren.
Everett enlisted in the United States Army, Dec. 9, 1942, at the age of 17, turning 18 on the ship traveling overseas to his assignment in the European Theater. On Dec. 8, 1944, he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. Wanting to fulfill his tour of duty, Everett was also awarded the Good Conduct and Bronze Arrowhead before he was discharged Oct. 29, 1945.
Upon his arrival home, he married
his one true love and the love his life, Mary Hazel Mackin. In October of 1946, he moved his wife and daughter Sharon Kaye to Orofino where another daughter was born, Mary Hazel, followed by a son, Everett Fenton, Jr. and yet another son, Thomas Harley.
When Everett first moved to Idaho, he worked with his brothers logging for a short period of time. He then went to work for the White Pine Lumber Company where he became a certified lumber grader in 1952 and worked for various mills until his retirement in 1987.During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and working on his property. Everett took pride in the appearance of his home and yard. He was always willing to help a friend in need.
He is survived at the family home by his loving wife, Hazel; daughter, Sharon Kaye (Fred) McFall of Lewiston; sons, Everett Fenton Jr. (Cindy) of Orofino and Thomas Harley (Karen) of St. Maries. He is also survived by grandchildren, Billie Fenton, Theresa, Bill Jr., Melissa, Rachell, Keither, Stephanie and Mathew; 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents; beloved daughter, Mary Hazel; eight brothers and sisters; and a granddaughter, Jessica.
A graveside service is planned Wednesday, May 21, at 2 p.m. at the Wells Bench cemetery.

Cherryl A. Trammell, 55, formerly of Pierce
Cherryl Ann Trammell passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at the family home in Lewiston, after a short battle with cancer.
Cherryl was born Aug. 11, 1952, in Lewiston. She grew up and attended schools in Pierce and was a member of the first graduating class at Timberline High School.
She attended Kinman Business College in Spokane and initially worked at Jones Pharmacy for several years before going to Sacred Heart Hospital, where she was employed for 25 years. She then moved to Lewiston to be near her family. She was employed at Walgreen's Drug in Lewiston for the past three years.
Cherryl was an avid football fan and delighted in attending games in Seattle (Seahawks), Pullman (Washington State) and Moscow (Vandals). She loved animals and couldn't turn away a homeless kitty. She also enjoyed gardening and reading, as well as word puzzles of all kinds.
Cherryl is survived by her parents, Marlene (Starr) and Verlon Trammell of Lewiston; her sister, Teresa and husband Rod Thrall of Boise; her brother John and wife Nora of Pierce; and her brother Ron and wife Tanya of Austin, TX. She is also survived by nephews Troy Thrall and family of Meridian and Travis Thrall and family of Caldwell.
A memorial graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston.
Our family wishes to express our thanks to the hospice workers who ministered to her.

Jullie A. Rimel, 58, Clarkston
The angels came and took Jullie Ann Rose Rimel, 58, of Clarkston, on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. She succumbed at home of a possible heart attack. She was a survivor of breast cancer.
"I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me."
Jullie was born Dec. 21, 1949, in Lewiston, to Robert and Bonnie (Eberhardt) Rose. Jullie lived here in the valley most of her life. She graduated from Clarkston High School in 1968 and she did attend some college at Lewis-Clark State College. She had worked as a waitress early in life and later on worked for her brother's company. She married
Bill Rimel in 1973 and they had a daughter, Vanessa Bonnie Rimel.
Her father, Robert, and husband, Bill, preceded her in death.
Jullie is survived by her beloved mother, Bonnie Burke; and siblings, Robert Wilson of Spokane, Marilee Wilson Roberts of Clarkston, and Deloris Wilson Johnson of Weippe. She is also survived by her loved daughter, Vanessa Rimel Jackson of Seattle; and two grandchildren, Alexandra and Riley.
Jullie enjoyed nature, working in her flower garden and yard. She loved to go for walks, read and write down her thoughts.

A celebration of her life will be conducted at a later date, privately with a family gathering.

Joanne E. Lycan, 70, formerly of Pierce
"God saw that she was getting tired, And a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around her and whispered, 'Come with me.' With tearful eyes we watched her suffer, And watched her fade away. Although we loved her dearly, We couldn't make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard-working hands put to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best!"
Joanne E. Lycan, 70, of Lewiston passed away April 28, 2008, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.
Joanne was born December 23, 1937, at Clarkston, WA to Frank Larkin and Mary Purcell. She attended school in Kooskia/Stites and graduated from Clearwater Valley High School in 1956 as the Valedictorian of her class. Joanne married
Roland Lycan October 22, 1955, at Kooskia.
She held positions as a manager of the Pierce Community Center, a Deputy City Clerk of Pierce, and a Secretary Treasurer of the Pierce Recreation District in addition to being a homemaker. Joanne was an excellent cook, excelling at baking delicious pies and homemade bread. Joanne was a member of the Tammany View Baptist Church and she enjoyed camping, fishing and visiting the ocean. Those closest to her describe her as a very kind and caring person that never had a harsh word to say about anybody.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 52 years, Roland Lycan. She is also survived by daughters, Cindy Parker of Lewiston, Teresa Packard and husband Mike of Jerome, Randa Schilling and husband Forest of Longview, WA, daughter Yoko Tanaka of Japan; sisters, Darlene Denham and husband Buck of Washington and Marie Hollibaugh of Coeur d'Alene; brothers, Allen Lycan and wife Jean of Dixie, Alven Lycan and wife Janet of Stites, Gene Button and wife Lisa of Boise, Gary York and wife Claudia of Orofino, Duane York and wife Leana of Kamiah; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous family members and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son Mike Lycan; step-brother Ralph Button; and step-brother Lewis Button.
A celebration memorial for Joanne Lycan has been scheduled for Saturday, May 3, at Tammany View Baptist Church at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service at Tammany View Baptist Church. Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston is caring for the arrangements.
David Lane Clifford, 50, formerly of Headquarters
David Lane Clifford passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston, of congestive heart failure. He was 50 years old.
He was born June 25, 1957, in Clarkston, WA to James R. Clifford and Edith G. Britton Clifford. Dave and his family lived in Headquarters until 1968, when the family moved to Clarkston. He went to school in Clarkston until he enlisted in the Marines in 1974. He was discharged in 1976.
He and Marlena R. Smead were married
April 28, 1978, in Clarkston.
Dave cooked at various restaurants in the valley. He cooked at Life Care Center of Lewiston until 2000, when medical reasons caused him to retire.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Clarkston. Dave loved camping, fishing and hunting, always with family. He also loved spending time with his grandsons. Dave will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Dave is survived by his wife, Marlena R. Clifford; a daughter, Jacqueline K. Clifford; grandsons, Treycen A. Sewell and Aydin L. Sewell; his father, James R. Clifford; sisters, Kathy Clifford and Susan and Bruce Smith; mother-in-law, Amy Smead; all are of Clarkston. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and childhood friend Dan Lookabill of Clarkston.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Sam Clifford; his mother, Edith G. Clifford; uncle, Ken Britton; grandmother, Ora Chambers; and father-in-law, Jack P. Smead.
Cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held. Mountain View Funeral Home of Lewiston is handling arrangements.

Gladys Louise Winblad, 89, Orofino
Gladys Louise Winblad, 89, Orofino, passed away April 16, 2008, at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino.
Cremation is to take place and services are pending at a later date in June.

James E. Knieriem, 65
James (Jim) Knieriem passed away Friday, April 18, 2008, at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston.
Jim was born July 4, 1942, in Portland, Ore., to Walter and Mingon Knieriem. He attended schools in Corbett, Ore., and graduated from Corbett High School in 1960. After graduation he worked as a volunteer fireman and drove a logging truck.
He married
Amber Davies in 1963; they had three children before they divorced.
He married
Linda Nottier Jan. 27, 1979, and became a dad to her three children.
After moving to Lewiston in 1980, he worked as a log truck driver and mechanic.
Most of his life he enjoyed working in his shop. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and bowling. In the last several years he enjoyed woodworking and built wooden models, which he proudly displayed. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, of 29 years; daughters, Kelly and husband Dan Grey of Troutdale, OR, and Vicki and husband Bill Feucht of Lewiston; sons, James and wife Sarah Knieriem of Bellingham, WA, Terry and wife Julie Knieriem of Ridgefield, WA, Jim and wife Nikki Knieriem of Grand Terrace, CA, and Ryan and wife Missy Knieriem of Lewiston; grandchildren, Meagan and husband Nick, Emiley, Tyller, Jordan, Lyndsi, Hailey, Cheyenne, JJ, Shelby, Couper, Sydney and Matthew; foster granddaughters, Jeanysa and Tela; and brothers, Francis Knieriem of Pierce, and Alvin Knieriem of Prineville, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mingon Knieriem.
Cremation will take place and a memorial celebration of life will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the home of Vicki and Bill Feucht, 3730 17th St. B in Lewiston.
Arrangements are under the direction of Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston.
