Tillie M. Baumbach
Tillie M. Baumbach, 87, of Boise, died Friday, April 18, 2003, at her home. Viewing will be today, Sunday, April 20, from noon until 8 p.m. at Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 N. Cloverdale Road, Boise. Private family services will be held, under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home. Mausoleum entombment will be held at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens. Tillie was born July 12, 1915, in Lockeford, Calif., to Louis and Mary Rabusin. She was raised at the family vineyard in Lodi, Calif., and she married Forrest H. Baumbach on Feb. 4, 1934, in Lodi. They were baptized together in 1947, and recently attended Whitney Baptist Church in Boise. Tillie had two loves in her life, her Savior Jesus Christ and her family. She was an excellent Italian cook and enjoyed reading her Bible, growing flowers and gardening, doing needlework and crocheting. Tillie is survived by her daughter, Barbara Duncan and husband, Robert of Orange County, Calif.; son, Donald Baumbach and wife, Pat of Boise, and daughter, Cheryl Engel of Boise. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; 12 great-grand-children; and her sister, Sue Silvers of Sacramento, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest; two sisters, Fanny and Vickie Rabusin; and two brothers, Leo and Frank Rabusin.
Virginia Barrencua Aldape
Virginia Barrencua Aldape, 94, of Natxitua, Bizkia, in the Basque Country, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2003. Virginia's daughter, Josune Arrieta of Boise, and the Arrieta family will celebrate a memorial Mass in her honor at 7 p.m. Monday, April 21, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Wallace D. "Wally" Whittington
Wally, 61, began his adventure home after a long hard battle with emphysema, surrounded with love by his wife and children, on Thursday, April 17, 2003, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. John Dawson officiating. Life began for Wally in Topeka, Kan., on July 15, 1941. He was raised in Burlingame, Kan., by loving parents Lula and Burch Whittington. He attended schools in Burlingame, Kan., and graduated from Burlingame High School. Wally's employment began at Beck Lumber Co. while in high school, and then he worked in Topeka with Kansas Power and Light. He moved to Boise in 1964 to work for Boise Cascade. He continued his career in Boise, working for such companies as Waremart, Chandler Building Supply, BSU, MK, Idaho First National Bank, and most recently starting his own financial group with co-workers, called Boise Financial Group. Wally loved life and was a man of many interests and talents. He had a great sense of humor right to the end. He loved his friends and family and they loved him. His love for life included camping, fishing, golfing, bowling, playing pool, repairing machinery and appliances. He had a love of cars and loved spending many hours working on them. Wally is survived by his loving mother, Lula Duncan of Burlingame, Kan.; his wife and soulmate, Evelyn Whittington and their blended family. Wally's children are his daughter, Stephanie and her husband, Robert Williams; grandchildren, Tiffany and Dylan; son, Stephen Whittington and his wife, Christine; grandson, Michael. Evelyn's children; Randy Jewett and his wife, Wendy; and grandson, JD; daughter, Luann Samson; grandchildren, Laura, Sarah and Jason; and daughter, Angela's children, Alyssa, Niam, and Malik. Other very special relationships included Wally's Kansas family, Wally's brothers and their respective families; Bill, Tim and Joe Coursen, their mother, Toni and his adopted sister, Sharon Thompson and many other aunts, uncles and cousins. Wally also felt very close to Evelyn's sister, Charlene Javernik and her children and their families. Wally was preceded in death by his father, Burch Whittington, Fred Coursen, stepfather, Paul Duncan and daughter, Angela Jewett Abdullah. The family would like to thank the nurses at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, Dr. Goltry, Life's Doors Hospice and Dr. Clifford for the compassionate care and acts of kindness.
Blanche Taylor Nicholson
Blanche Taylor Nicholson, 90, passed away at home on Tuesday, April 29, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, in the Boise 10th Ward LDS Chapel, located at 3200 Cassia St. Viewings will be this evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Relyea Funeral Chapel, 318 N. Latah, and at the church Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. before the services. Blanche was born June 22, 1912, in Malta. She was the third of five children born to Thomas Taylor Jr. and Caroline Nelson. Her parents owned the Malta dry goods store, and as a child Blanche often lay on the bottom shelf of the counters and watched the customers shoes and skirts swish by. When she was five, her family moved to Burley where her father went into the sheep business. She attended school in Burley. As a teenager, she and her friends would meet after school at Pixton's Soda Fountain. She attended the University of Idaho, where she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta and as a freshman was set up on a blind date with Carl Nicholson, a senior Fiji. When he picked her up in a 1929 Cord convertible, Blanche thought to herself, "This crowd is too racy for me!" They were married Dec. 29, 1931, in Nyssa, Ore. The newlyweds lived for several years in Boise with Carl's parents, Kate and Charlie Nicholson, where Carl joined his father, who was also a sheep rancher. Blanche and Carl had six children: Carl, Tom, Sue Anne (deceased), Claire, Joan and Richard. She created a home of consideration, affection and fun. While preparing meals, she put music on the kitchen record player and she and the kids danced the Hokey Pokey. Blanche enjoyed many wonderful friends. They organized endless charity events and shared happy times together in sewing group, bridge club, their annual Christmas shopper's tea, and dancing the Charleston at the Junior League Follies. Eventually she returned to her religious roots and was an active member of the LDS church, serving in the Relief Society organization and giving countless hours in genealogical service. Her husband joined the LDS church 50 years after he and Blanche were married, and they were later sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Blanche's legacy is her lifelong example of selflessness, humor, intelligence and gracious generosity. She is survived by her children, Carl Vere (Patti) Nicholson of Kuna, Thomas Taylor (Diana) Nicholson of Boise, Claire (Mrs. George David) Weiss of Oldwyck, N.J., Joan Nicholson of Boise, and Robert Richard (Elizabeth) Nicholson of Pittsburgh, Pa.;13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A sister, Elva Taylor Gillette (Mrs. Max) of Burley; and a brother, Parley Rex (Garnet) Taylor of Soda Springs, also survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; their infant daughter, Sue Anne; her parents; a sister, Theora; and a brother, Floyd. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Blanche's caregivers, Mindy Steffey, Sandy Stimpson, Laura Palmer, Lavonne Juhl and Dot Johnson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
Donald H. Cadotte Sr.
Donald H. Cadotte Sr., 75, of Boise, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2003, of natural causes in a local hospital. Donald was born June 9, 1927, in Danbury, Wis., to John and Gloria Cadotte. He moved to Boise in 1941. Mr. Cadotte served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After being honorably discharged he became self- employed. Donald married Marie Betts, and they had four children who survive - Carla Anneker of Boise, Carmen McCormick of Seneca, Ore., Donald Cadotte Jr. of Star, and Dave Cadotte of Boise. Also surviving is a sister, Ann Browning of Boise; a brother, Bill Clark of Seneca, Ore.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and two sisters. Donald will be missed. The family will be having private memorial services. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Relyea Funeral Chapel, Boise.
Edith M. Sorenson
Edith M. Sorenson, 80, of Paul, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Valley View Life Care Center in Boise. Edith was born March 20, 1923, in St. John, Kan., to Charles and Florence Hathaway. They lived on a farm. She moved with her family to Idaho in 1936 and attended school in Paul. She married Jay Sorenson in 1945 and settled in Paul. They enjoyed going fishing and taking their boat out on Magic Reservoir. They had a daughter, Carol. Jay preceded her in death in 1977. She worked for the J.R. Simplot plant in Burley for 33 years, retiring in 1983. She was the lab supervisor and for the last six years, the quality assurance manager. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a charter member of the Lady Elks. She was a member of Church of Christ in Rupert. She loved flowers and always had beautiful flowers in her yard. She also enjoyed gardening. She enjoyed crafts and was well known for the beautiful covered photo albums she made. She won many blue ribbons at the fair for her crafts, canning and flower arrangements. Edith made many friends throughout her life and kept in touch with them. She came from a large family and enjoyed many activities with them. She loved to cook for family gatherings and everyone loved her cooking. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Felts (Charles) of Boise; three granddaughters, Naleta Mellor (Darrin) of Orem, Utah, Teri Felts of Boise, and Kristine Dibble (Brandon) of Kuna; and five great-grandchildren, Jessica, Derek, Corbin and Nicole Mellor, and Cloe Ann Dibble; four brothers, Palmer (Bud) of Burley, Ralph of Idaho Falls, Charles (Doc) of Paul, and Cecil (Pete) of Gooding; and three sisters, Ruth Dickenson of the Burley Care Center, Ethel Lowery of Paul, and Bonnie Schrock of Heyburn; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Florence Hathaway; her husband, Jay; two brothers, Russell and Herbert Hathaway; and a sister, Dorothy Wright. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 26, at the Hansen Funeral Chapel in Rupert. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association of Idaho, 270 S. Orchard, Suite B, Boise, ID 83705.
Forest J. Parker
Forest J. Parker, 94, of Homedale, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at a Caldwell hospital. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 5, at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Homedale. Forest was born May 22, 1908, in Shattuck, Okla. He was raised and educated in Hominy, Okla., and moved to Idaho in 1935. In 1937 he married Iris M. Haynes in Caldwell, and they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary April 3. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and he had a great sense of humor. He worked at many different places; he lived in Yellow Pine, Stibnite and Emmett where he and his brother owned a service station and bulk plant. In 1950 he moved to Homedale and went to work for Co-Op Oil, where he worked for 28 years, when he retired. He is survived by his wife, Iris; a daughter, Shirley, by a former marriage; three grandsons, Richard Schmidt and wife, Linda, Peter Schmidt, Michael Schmidt and wife, Laura; granddaughter, Sharon Abraham and her husband, Claude; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Kay Newland and husband, George; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Parker; sister-in-law, Virginia White; sister-in-law, Elner Strickland and husband, Floyd; numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, his parents, two sisters and a brother. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association, 270 S. Orchard #B, Boise, ID 83705.
Laurie Jean Wilson
Laurie Jean Wilson, 45, passed away Friday April 25, 2003 at her home in Gilbert, Arizona. She was born April 15, 1958 in Boise the daughter of Janet and Harry Wilson. She grew up in Meridian graduating from Meridian High School in 1976, and Boise State university with a degree in business. She worked at Micron and Zilog before moving to San Jose, Calif. where she worked for several computer companies. Then she moved to Gilbert, Arizona where where she worked for Motorola as operations analysis manager. She is survived by her mother Janet of Boise, a brother Kenneth and wife Dana, nephews; Christopher, Aaron and his wife Jennifer, and great niece Brylynn Wilson, all of Middleton. Her grandmother Lillian Reaman of Meridian, and aunts; Wanda McGill of Nampa, and Norma Palmer of Boise. She is preceded in death by her father Harry Wilson, grandparents; Isabel and Ocar Wilson, and grandfather Herbert Reaman. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to any animal shelter, women's abuse shelter or American Diabetes Association. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
Pamela Joyce Dunbar
Pamela Joyce Dunbar, 57, of Meridian, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at home as a result of breast cancer. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Cloverdale Cemetery, Boise. The Rev. Ralph Lawrence will officiate. Arrangements are by Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel, Meridian. Pamela Joyce Dunbar was born Feb. 4, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo., to Ross and Dulcie Calhoun. She was raised and schooled in Prairie Village, Kan. She attended the University of Kansas, graduating with a degree in occupational therapy. Pam married Robert Dunbar in Prairie Village, Kan., in 1966. The family lived in Albuquerque, N.M., in the l970s, and then moved to Meridian, Idaho, in 1978. They also had a home in Donnelly for a number of years, but had moved back to Meridian three years ago. Pam thoroughly enjoyed her long career as an occupational therapist. She initially specialized in the child development area, which included working with the Meridian School District. After moving to Donnelly, she was involved with elderly care, which continued with Sunbridge upon her return to Meridian. She was in the occupational therapy field for 39 years, always eager to adopt improved methods, while willing to share her knowledge with others. Pam enjoyed whitewater rafting for 30 years, the outdoors, and spending time with her family. She loved to cook and had an extensive cookbook library. She is survived by her husband, Bob Dunbar of Meridian; son, John Dunbar of Bellevue, Wash.; daughter-in-law, Lesley Dunbar of Nampa; granddaughter, Deidra Dunbar of Nampa; father, Ross Calhoun of Prairie Village, Kan.; two sisters, Jacque Smith of Oakville, Ontario, Canada, and Carol Lehman of Rich Fountain, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Jeff who passed away in 2001; and her mother, Dulcie Calhoun. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Pam's name to a charity of your choice.
Richard Lee Fickel
Richard Lee Fickel, 45, of Boise, passed away at home on Saturday, April 26, 2003. Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 3, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Dry Creek Cemetery in Boise. Arrangements are by Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel, Meridian. Rick was born August 19, 1956 in Riverside, California. He was a son, husband, and a father. He loved being outdoors, camping, fishing and boating. He enjoyed drawing and building models. Rick is survived by his wife Tammy; his step-sons, Justin and Ryan Akers, and his son Wesley Fickel; his mother, Mary Swayne; his brother John Fickel; his sister Michele; as well as friends and extended family. Ross Richard Mothershead
Ross Mothershead, 84, of Boise, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at a local care center. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Cherry Lane Christian Church, with Pastor Steve Moore officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home. Ross was born March 11, 1919, in Paradise, Kan., to Olaf and Charlotte Mothershead. He served in the Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1946. He married Blanche Jenkins on Nov. 11, 1940, in Gooding, Idaho. He worked for the Agriculture Department for the federal government. Ross lived in Idaho most of his life. He like to play golf, garden and hunt. He was a member of the Elks, and a Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW). Ross is survived by his wife, Blanche; two sisters, Olive Lundy of Twin Falls, Jenny Kohntopp of Jerome; two brothers, Lloyd Mothershead of Paul, and Alton Mothershead of Twin Falls; one daughter, Carol Lamm of Boise; one son, Lyle Mothershead of Grangeville; grandchildren, Jana Fleming of Boise, Julie Schumacher of Grangeville, Jeff Lamm of Boise; and great-grandchildren, Kara and Katie Fleming of Boise, Bradley and Patrick Schumacher of Grangeville. William Dan (Bill) Glenn
William Dan (Bill) Glenn, age 82, of Rothschild, Wis., died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at his home in Rothschild. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Boise at 2 p.m. today, Friday, May 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to funeral services, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are by Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel. William was born Jan. 25, 1921, in Boise, to the late Dan Gray and Marie Dell (Nichols) Glenn. He married Anna S. Ourada on July 7, 1947, in Boise. She preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 1993. Bill moved to Wisconsin to be near his children after his wife died, but he always considered Boise his home. He worked for over 20 years for the former Idaho Hardware Co. where he began working after completing high school. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. Upon his discharge, he returned to Idaho Hardware where he advanced to a successful position in sales, traveling throughout southern Idaho. In the late 1960s, he moved his family to California for a career in retail management. His endeavors took him to many states, but upon his retirement, he and Ann returned to Boise. Bill never actually retired from working. He considered work as his hobby. While Ann was alive, he was employed for a number of years by Coast-to-Coast Hardware in Boise. He continued to work after relocating to Wisconsin, finally really retiring when he was 79. Bill is survived by one son, William (Janice) Glenn of Rothschild, Wis.; one daughter, Pamela (Michael) Stabach of Connecticut; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. William was preceded in death by one grandson.
