Allen "Teeny" Dutton
Allen "Teeny" Dutton, 97, of Parma, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at a Homedale care center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Dakan Funeral Chapel, Parma. Interment will follow at Lower Boise Cemetery. Allen was born Dec. 26, 1903, at Roswell, to Dwight and Rozella Dutton. He helped farm until age 17, then went to work for Ed Hartman in Hartman's Pool Hall where he worked for 23 years. He married Minty Bates in November 1923, and they were married for 77 years. They had two sons, Gene and Jerry. He then went to work for Powers Apiaries and retired in 1967. Allen liked to hunt and fish. Minty died in November 2000. Allen is survived by Gene Dutton and his wife, Geraldine, and Jerry Dutton and his wife, Barbara; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. His family would like to thank Owyhee Health and Rehab Center in Homedale for the good care they have given both our mother and dad. It was the best of care. Memorial contributions may be made to the Idaho Youth Ranch.

Edna E. Belanger
Edna Eilene Belanger, age 60, of Boise, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at home. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Park View Cemetery, New Plymouth. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Edna was born May 20, 1941, at New Plymouth and attended school there. In 1967, she completed her practical nurse training at Treasure Valley College in Ontario, Ore., and worked at Holy Rosary Hospital and for Dorin S. Daniels, M.D. She moved to McCall after the death of her son in 1978, and worked at the nursing home. In 1979, she moved to Logan, Utah, where she attended Utah State University, graduating in 1982, with her associate of science degree. She worked at the Sunshine Nursing Home in Logan, Utah, Brigham City Hospital and St. Benedict's Hospital in Ogden, Utah. She returned to school, and graduated in 1984 at Westminster College, Salt Lake City, Utah, completing her bachelor of science degree in nursing. She then moved to Mountain City, Nev., and worked at the Duck Valley Indian Reservation until 1987. She moved back to Boise and worked at the VA Medical Center until her medical retirement in 1997, with lupus. On May 19, 1990, Edna married the love of her life, Robert Belanger, in Elko, Nev. Remember: "If you lived to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you" -Winnie the Pooh. Survivors include her beloved husband, Robert Belanger of Boise; one daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Will Gutierrez of Emmett; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Hugh Taylor of Otis Orchards, Wash., and Grace and Jim Supan of Rupert; one brother and sister-in-law, Royal and Renie Earl of Rupert; two stepdaughters and one stepson-in-law, Amy and Chad Brock and Tracy Belanger, all of New Plymouth; three stepsons and two stepdaughters-in-law, Jared and Katie Belanger and Aaron Belanger, all of New Plymouth, and Quincy and Lori Belanger of Lake Havasu City, Nev.; 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, Jessah Kay. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son. Friends may call today from 3 to 8 p.m. at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, New Plymouth. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette 83661. Edna's family would like to say a special thank you to the entire medical staff at Mountain States Tumor Institute for their wonderful care of Edna.

Edith Margaret Thatcher
Edith Margaret Thatcher, 90, of Boise, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at a local hospital. Viewing will be held Sunday, Sept. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Cloverdale Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at Cloverdale Memorial Park. She was born June 18, 1911, at Laurel, Neb., to Joseph Albert McManus and May (Metz) McManus. She was raised and schooled in Nebraska. In 1929 she graduated and received her teaching certificate. Edith was an accomplished seamstress. She married Charles (Swede) Thatcher in 1935 at Sioux City, Iowa, and moved to Boise in 1938. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. Edith is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Charlene (Charles) Childers, one son, Thomas Thatcher of Boise; one brother, J.T. (Delia) McManus of Boise; three grandchildren, Julie (Phil) Jones, Jacquelyn (James) Raitter, Christopher (Andrea) Childers; great-grandchildren, Andrew Jones, Nicholas Jones, Sarah Childers, Connor Childers; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987, her parents, and three brothers and three sisters.

Ava Jo Shoemaker
Ava Jo Shoemaker, 70, of Lubbock, Texas, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home Chapel, Lubbock, with the Rev. Rickey Lawrence officiating. Burial will be at Pierce Chapel-Strip Cemetery, under the direction of Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home. She was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Rotan, Texas. She married Lonnie O. Shoemaker on Jan. 31, 1959, in Lubbock. He died Aug. 19, 2001. She was a resident of Plainview, Texas, from 1959 until 1962; Albuquerque from 1962 until 1972; Boise from 1972 until 1988; San Antonio, Texas, from 1988 until 1995; and Lubbock since June 1995. She worked as the purchaser for the Department of the Army at Ft. Sam Houston; the Army Corps of Engineers at Lucky Peak in Idaho; and as a clerk for the Water District in Boise. She was an active member and past historian of the Gen. James Smith chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and an active member and librarian of the Buffalo Grass chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include two sons, Charles Lee of San Jose, Calif., and Ervin Lynn of Lubbock; a brother, Charles Melton of Lubbock. The family suggests memorials to the American Red Cross, 2201 Ave. X, Lubbock, Texas 79411. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kathryn Ahrens
Kathryn Ahrens, 88, of Nampa, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at a Nampa care center from complications of Parkinson's disease. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Franklin Community Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. S., Nampa. Kathryn was born April 16, 1913, in Red Cloud, Neb., to the Rev. Ira B. Wagoner and Bertha Wichmann Wagoner. She graduated from Red Cloud High School. Next to family, teaching was her first love. As a small girl, she would make her younger brother and sister sit still and she would act like she was their teacher. She graduated from high school in June 1929 at the age of 16 and started teaching the following September. She liked to joke that some of the eighth grade boys were older than she was. Kathryn was married to Clyde Ahrens in Mankato, Kan., by her father, on Oct. 14, 1934. They moved to Nampa, Idaho, in December 1934, and to their present home in the Franklin community in 1941. She started teaching again in 1949 and attended the College of Idaho summers and evenings, graduating cum laude in 1965. She taught at Franklin School and in the Nampa school system until she retired in 1976. After retiring, she and Clyde traveled extensively until her health precluded any further travel. They toured the U.S. extensively, as well as trips to Europe, Canada, Alaska and Mexico. Mention virtually any city in the U.S. and they had likely been there. Kathryn was a 60-year member of Franklin Community Church where she played piano, was Sunday school teacher and a member of the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of Toastmistress, Nampa Century Club and the Colfax Rebekah Lodge. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dan Wagoner; and a sister, Esther Emmons. Kathryn is survived by her husband of 67 years, Clyde Ahrens of Nampa; a daughter, Lynn Ahrens; son David Ahrens and wife, Sandra, all of Nampa; son, Jim Ahrens and wife, Gina of Boise; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pauline Wagoner of Chicago; brother-in-law, Perry Emmons of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Franklin Community Church, 8499 Highway 20-26, Nampa 83687; or to American Parkinson's Disease Association, 1055 N. Curtis Road, Boise 83706.

Alleene Kroush Stover Bellier
Services for Alleene Kroush Stover Bellier 96 of Boise, who died Tuesday Nov. 6th at a Boise Care Center, will be conducted at 11a.m. Friday at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett. Burial will follow at the Emmett Cemetery. Alleene was born Oct. 1, 1905 in Eldorado, Ill., to Clara A. Kaid and Frederick William Kroush, the youngest of seven children. Her father died in 1908 and her mother moved to Emmett in 1910 with Alleene and four siblings. Alleene attended school in Emmett and later worked for Caxton Printers for seven years. She married Roy Stover of McCall, Idaho in 1936. They resided there where they owned and operated The Dog House until RoyÕs death in 1969. Alleene moved from McCall to Boise in 1974 and married G.E. Bellier on July 1, 1975 and they resided at 1702 N. 21st Street until Mr. Bellier died in Dec. of 1992. Shortly after that she moved to Hillcrest Assisted Living Center where she lived until July of this year. Following a stroke she was then moved to the Life Care Center. Though small in stature she was an outdoor woman who hunted big game, loved to fish and also did wonderful handwork. Alleene was an avid bridge player, an animal advocate, a wonderful gardener and a loving aunt. Survivors include Lucille and Bill Wood of Boise, Ernestine and Bill Linder of Chelan, Wash., Lucretia and Elmer Carlock of Eagle, Margaret Anderson of Blackfoot, Mrs. LeRoy Stover of Idaho City, Marjorie Kroush of Whidbey Island, Wash., Enid Kroush of Homedale, Dixie and Robert Blome of Nampa, Pauline and John Ness of Emmett; and numerous great nieces and nephews and 5 step-grand children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Ernest, Esmond, and Orville; a sister, Virginia and two infant siblings, and a step-daughter, Kay Hawkes. The family thanks the staff at Hillcrest AsstÕd Living and the Life Care Center for all their concern, patience and loving care. Memorials may be made to Pet Haven 333 W. Orchard Ave. Nampa, Idaho. 83651. Friends may call Thursday from noon until 8 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett.

Kathyrn Joyce Brown Rhodes
Kathryn Joyce Brown Rhodes, of West Valley City, Utah, formerly of Boise, passed peacefully into her Heavenly Father's arms on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at the age of 49. She was born May 26, 1952, in Dillon, Mont., to Charles Nathan and Lela Bybee Brown. On June 16, 1973, she married Kenneth R. Vaughn, and had two wonderful children before later divorcing. On April 22, 1982, she married her best friend, William (Rocky) Rhodes, and was later sealed to him for all eternity in the Jordan River LDS Temple. Kathy was a multi-talented woman; she sewed, cooked, crocheted and gardened. She graduated from Drummond High School in 1970. She attended Montana State University, BYU, ITT and Salt Lake Community College, never receiving less than a 4.0. She was currently employed by Lagoon Corp. as an electrician. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she taught gospel doctrine in the Hunter 9th Ward. Her testimony was unwavering despite the hardships and trials she was called to bear. Her love of family and friends was unmeasurable. She leaves behind her husband, Rocky; children, Eryn Vaughn, Jason, Patrik Vaughn, Tannis and Tyson; grandchildren, Arik and Alix Vaughn, Jordan Rhodes, and Dustin Rhodes; her mother and stepfather, Lela and Roger Cousineau of Montana; her sister, Patti (Ven) Savage; brother-in-law, Richard (Sandy) Rhodes; sister-in-law, Lynda Banks; nieces, Kandi (Kovi) Christiansen, Kaylene Savage and Andrea Rhodes; nephews, Ven (Mindy) Savage, Josh (Jen )Savage, Herschel and Tyrone Banks; three great-nephews, Kyler and Karson Christiansen, Conner Savage; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and father-in-law, Alice and Dusty Rhodes and her grandparents. Services will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Magna Stake Center, 7731 W. 3500 S. Friends may call this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Valley View Memorial Funeral Home, 4335 W. 4100 S., West Valley City; and Tuesday one hour prior to services at the Magna Stake Center. "I'm glad I didn't know, the way it all would end, the way it all would go. Our lives, are better left to chance, I could have missed the pain, but I would've had to miss the dance." Alice McMullen
Alice McMullen, age 91, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2001. Alice was born Nov. 11, 1910, in Vallejo, Calif., to Richard and Harrietta McMullen. Upon moving to Los Angeles, where she resided for many years, she worked in the food industry. Alice in her youth traveled all over the United States, Mexico and Canada. She moved to Boise in 1992 to be with family. She loved to travel, crafts, garage sales, animals and especially her cats. Alice was loving, quiet, with a dry wit and a heart of gold. She is and will always be in our hearts. Alice is survived by her loving family, Alberta Mapson, Bob and Louise Morken, Kristel and Kyla Myatt, and Dave, Nancy and Bridget Marion who will miss her terribly. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Boise Samaritan Village.

Doris Elizabeth Makinson
Doris Elizabeth Makinson passed away on May 20, 2002. She was born in Carrier, Okla. one of eight children. After growing up and graduating high school in Kansas, she taught in a one-room school before moving to Idaho to marry Richard (Dick) Makinson in 1940. She retired from the State of Idaho Bureau of Vital Statistics. She was preceded in death by her husband. Mrs. Makinson is survived by her three children, Betty Jollie of Boise, Nona Makinson of Camarillo, Calif. and Richard (Rick) Makinson of Concrete, Wash.; Also her three grandchildren Lester Jollie, Raymond Makinson of Boise and Bobbie Makinson of Idaho Falls and a great-grandson, Trevor Makinson of Coeur D' Alene. Also surviving is a sister, Ila Watts of Poplar Bluff, Mo. along with several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be tonight, Friday, May 24 from 5-8:30 p.m. at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25 at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel with burial following at Dry Creek Cemetery.

Joseph A. Bauer
Joseph A. Bauer, 92 year old Paul resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at the home of his son in Boise. ÊHe was born Feb. 14, 1909, in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Anthony Joseph and Mary Borghorst Bauer. He attended schools in Dyersville, Iowa, and moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where he attended grade school. At the age of 15, Joe moved to Blackfoot. He worked with his dad in the blacksmith shop and later worked road construction with Wheeler and England Construction Company for a number of years. He met and married Zelma Wheeler and they soon moved to Paul. They were later divorced. ÊHe was an avid aviator having achieved his private pilot's license and subsequently receiving his instrument and commercial ratings. At the age of 60, Joe received an acrobatic rating. He married Virginia Alexander Critchfield on Dec. 4, 1963, in Las Vegas, Nev. She preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 1995. ÊJoe was a blacksmith and welder having worked with the manufacturing and repair of farm equipment. He was a member of the BPOE of Burley, Past President of the Paul Lions Club, Past President of the Paul Chamber of Commerce, a charter member of the Flying B Resort Ranch, and was Grand Marshall of the Paul Parade. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, target shooting competition, and had a master rating of indoor shooting and an expert rating in Big Bore. Survivors include a son, Mark D. (Mary) Bauer of Boise; one brother, James Bauer of Leslie, Idaho; two sisters, Hazel Clark of Blackfoot and Bernita Grady of Lindon Center, Vt.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Bruce M. Bauer; a sister, May Louise; two brothers, Loren A. Bauer and Harold Bauer; and a grandson, Kelley D. Bauer. ÊFuneral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001, at the Paul L.D.S. Stake Center, 424 West Ellis in Paul, with Bishop Dee Wheeler, officiating. Burial will be in the Paul Cemetery. Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary, 221 West Main Street in Burley on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Saturday.

Alice C. Sundell
Alice C. Sundell passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at a local care center. She was born Jan. 5, 1918, at Dillon, Mont. The daughter of Robert and Lillie Melton, she was also the granddaughter of John Taylor, an early Montana judge. She attended schools in Dillon, including Western Montana College. In 1943 she married Walter H. Sundell. They lived in a number of Montana communities while Walter pursued a career with the U.S. Forest Service. They were residents of Helena, Ennis, Ashland and White Sulphur Springs. Being the wife of a forester was a source of great pride for her. Their life with the Forest Service took them to Orem, Utah, and eventually to Boise. She was a loving wife and mother, putting her family first in all situations. While living in Boise, she enjoyed working as the voter registrar in precinct 60. She was an accomplished needle arts craftswoman. Alice also enjoyed reading and homemaking. Her husband, Walter, preceded her in death in 1989. She is survived by a sister, two brothers, one daughter, three sons and four grandchildren. Her sister is Regina Givens of Silver Star, Mont. Her brothers are Robert Melton of California, and Jimmy Melton of Dillon, Mont. Her children are: daughter, Linda and husband, Greg Gendall of Emmett; son, Larry and wife, Ronna Sundell of Boise; son, Bernie and wife, Lexi Sundell of Ennis, Mont.; and son, Danny and wife, JoAnne Sundell of Buffalo, N.Y. The pride of her life were her grandchildren: Nebin Gendall Schulman of Solano Beach, Calif., Miskee Gendall Blatner of Waukesha, Wis., Taya and Ander Sundell of Boise. Private services will be held. Arrangements are under direction of the Potter Funeral Chapel, Emmett. Memorials may be sent in Alice's name to the National Museum of Forest Service History, P.O. Box 2772, Missoula, Mont. 59806-2772.

Edna I. "Molly" Sivey
Edna I. "Molly" Sivey, 72, of Boise, slipped her earthly bonds to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 17, 2001, at a local hospital, after a very short battle with cancer. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel. Burial will follow at Cloverdale Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel. Molly was born June 30, 1928, at Donnelly, to Sam and Anna Nissula. She was raised on the family homestead until she left to go to the University of Idaho. She moved to Boise to go to work, and met Earl Sivey. They were married on Oct. 15, 1949. They had three boys - Michael E., Richard D., and D. Gail. In 1961, they moved to Denver and began a family business in which she held many positions. When deciding to retire in 1982, they moved back to Boise. Back in Boise, she occupied her time by helping out with and working on the apartments that they owned, playing golf, and playing bridge. Molly belonged to Iras #40, Daughters of the Nile, and was a member of the Iras Guard. She also belonged to the Plantation Women's Golf Association, and enjoyed getting out and playing golf on Tuesdays. Molly is survived by her sons and their wives, Mike and Judy of Denver, Dick and Kathy of Boise, and Gail and Barbara of Boise; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray and James; one sister, Effie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband of 49 years, Earl; her parents, Sam and Anna; and eight brothers and sisters, preceded her in death. Contributions may be made in Edna's name to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, Fairfax and Virginia, Salt Lake City, Utah; or to your favorite charity.
