Audrey Ilene Stockham Flock
Audrey Ilene Stockham Flock died at home on Tuesday, May 7, 2002, following a prolonged battle with breast cancer. Ilene was born May 23, 1926, in Buckeye, Neb., to Charles and Carrie Stockham. At age 11 she moved to Idaho with her family. They resided in Emmett and later moved to a farm on the Payette/Gem County line at the Falk Store townsite. She graduated from New Plymouth High School at 16 in 1943. Following graduation, she attended Link's School of Business in Boise. She then worked for the Federal Housing Administration during and immediately after World War II. Ilene married Launce Flock Jr. on March 6, 1948. In 1949 they bought the house in Boise's North End that she resided in until her death. Her family was her main focus. She especially enjoyed her four grandchildren. She also enjoyed fishing with her husband, reading mystery and suspense novels, attending BSU basketball games, researching her family history, and traveling. For better than 50 years she was her husband's patient navigator and usually cheerful traveling companion as they explored back roads throughout the country. Ilene is survived by her husband of 54 years, whose loving care allowed her to remain in her home until her death. She is also survived by her children, Kay and Jim Reed of Boise, Gordon and Kathy Flock of Pocatello, and Steve and Trudy Flock of Burley; her grandchildren, Adam Kitch, Lexi Flock, James Flock, and Jordan Flock; her sister, Charlene Clow of St. Louis; her brother-in-law, Clarence Dieter of Carbondale, Colo.; her double cousin, Carol Wackerla of Oconto, Neb.; and many other cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Wayne. The family extends thanks to Dr. Mary Gearn; St. Luke's Hospice especially DeAnna, Joan, and Mary Cay; Linda Lynn for her steadfast friendship; and especially to Carmen Roman for her kind and loving care of our wife, mother and grandmother. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Mary Cay Armer officiating. Ashton R. Henderson
Ashton R. Henderson, 87, longtime Pocatello resident and Pocatello businessman, died Saturday evening, Sept. 8, 2001, at a care center in Boise. He was born April 26, 1914, in North Loop, Neb., to Chester Roy and Hazel Ada Thrasher Henderson. He married Pearl West in 1933, and she preceded him in death Feb. 1, 1966. He married Hazel Brown in 1967, and she preceded him in death in November 1998. He and his first wife Pearl founded Ashton Henderson Photography in Pocatello in 1945. His son, Ron Henderson, operates the business today. Ashton is survived by one son, Ronald (Joan) Henderson of Pocatello; one daughter, Mary Ann Smith of Boise; stepchildren, Bonnie Brown, Carol Brown (Rich), Doug (Ann) Brown, all of Corvallis, Ore., Pam (Neal) Davis of McCall; 10 grandchildren, Brad (Dawn) Smith, Kara (Jared) Heatherington, Laura (Logan) Brudenell, Kevin ( Mandie) Henderson, Craig Smith, Janell (Tom) Ward, Quinn and Lilly Brown, Sara and Sam Davis. He was preceded in death by his wives, Pearl and Hazel; his parents; and one brother. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, in the Henderson-Cornelison Funeral Chapel, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., and Thursday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment will follow services at Mountainview Cemetery, Pocatello.
Audrey Hartman Allen Wardrop
Audrey Maxine Hartman Allen Wardrop, of Fountain Valley, Calif., and formerly of Parma, Idaho, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, in Huntington Beach, Calif. Audrey died peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. Her family and friends will remember her generous smile and warm spirit. She was blessed with many friends that she met throughout her life. Audrey was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Notus. She lived in the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah and California. She also traveled with her late husband, Lafe Allen, through much of the United States, as well as Germany, France and Great Britain. She later traveled with her husband, Bill Wardrop, through the U.S. continent, as well as Hawaii, Australia, Alaska, Turkey, Italy and the Panama Canal. Throughout her life Audrey entertained family and friends. Her cooking has been the source of pride for all her family. She enjoyed cooking and it was a pleasure to sit at her table. Audrey's gifts also included needlepoint, painting, crocheting, knitting, quilting and genealogy, which have provided keepsakes to family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Audrey was preceded in death by her first husband of 42 years, Lafe J. Allen. She is survived by her husband of seven years, Bill Wardrop; five children and their spouses, Geri Allen (Mike) Barr, Judy Allen (Jeff ) Koniges, Jim Allen, Karl (Sarah) Wardrop, Kathy Wardrop (Joe) Bruce; and nine grandchildren, Sarah, Katie and John Barr, John and Greg Koniges, Ross and Katie Wardrop, BJ and Libby Bruce; brother, Orville Hartman; sisters, Wilma Shiell and Marge Pickett. Audrey's family has been comforted by the many letters and calls received from family and friends during her battle with cancer. They thank you for your thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the hospice of your choice. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Ten Davis Cemetery (Lower Boise Cemetery), Parma.
Alma Christina Bowling
Ninomiya Alma Christina Bowling-Ninomiya, 79, of Nampa, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2002 in a local care center of natural causes following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Please join Alma's family and friends in honoring her life in a Memorial Service, Friday, February 15, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. So. Nampa. Alma was born to Phillip Harvey and Lessie May Crabtree Bowling on February 18, 1922 in Osmond, Neb. She married Frank Zechmann in 1939, raising their four sons in Nampa, Idaho. In 1963, Alma married Takeo (Nino) Ninomiya, and the two spent almost 20 years in Salinas, Calif. before returning to Nampa in 1985. In addition to the pleasure Alma got from her family and friends, she enjoyed cross stitch, painting and her dogs, Heidi and Kati. For many years, Alma was very much into bowling, finally achieving a goal in 1964 by winning the state All Events Handicap State Championship. Alma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Nino, and brother, Jack Bowling. She will be dearly missed by her four sons and their wives, Larry and Judy Zechmann of Nampa, Thomas and Loureen Zechmann of Boise, William and Cindy Zechmann of Caldwell and Dennis and Gayle Zechmann of Caldwell. Three brothers and two sisters and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimers Association, 1111 So. Orchard, Boise, Idaho 83705.
Kathryn M. Albertson
Kathryn M. Albertson, wife of the late Joe Albertson, died peacefully at her Boise home Tuesday morning at 2 a.m., April 30, 2002. She was 93. Kathryn was the wind beneath Joe Albertson's wings. Though she was a private person who did not relish or seek public attention, she was nonetheless generous, practical and capable -- a helpmate who worked side by side to help Joe Albertson achieve his dreams. She was born Kathryn McCurry in Boise, Idaho, on August 27, 1908. Her parents were Neunan and Ida Mae McCurry. As a young girl, Kathryn attended school in Boise. She enrolled in the College of Idaho in Caldwell in the late Ô20s, where she met Joe Albertson, who would become the love of her life for more than 60 years. The couple married New Years Day in 1930 in Boise. According to friends and family, Kathryn was vital to the success of the grocery store chain that bears their name. "She was my father's rock. Always there for him, very strong and very understanding," said daughter Barbara Jean Newman. As the company began to thrive, Joe and Kathryn began to give to charitable causes in communities where they lived. They gave generously to educational causes because both Joe and Kathryn left school during the Depression to take jobs. Together, Joe and Kathryn created the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation in 1966 and have, since then, given more than $175 million to help open doors of opportunity for Idaho's students. When Joe passed away in 1993, Kathryn continued her involvement in the Foundation, taking an active role on the Board of Directors. She was instrumental in establishing the Foundation's focus on helping to improve education K-12 in Idaho. "Her love of Idaho and her desire to help children and organizations within our state were the basis for how we structured this Foundation," said grandson Joseph B. Scott. Albertson College, then College of Idaho, recognized the couple for their generosity, when, in 1979, they bestowed honorary degrees on Kathryn and Joe at commencement ceremonies. On August 31, 1998, the board of the Albertson Corporation honored Kathryn by designating her Albertson's first Director Emeritus, an honorary lifetime position on that Board of Directors. In 1979, Joe Albertson donated the land for a beautiful nature park named in her honor. He called it "a monument to the relationship between Kay and me and the people of Boise." She is survived by daughter Barbara Jean Newman, grandson Joseph B. Scott, and numerous great grandchildren. "She was a generous, loving person and will be sorely missed, not only by our family and friends, but by the community and the students of Idaho," said grandson, Joe Scott. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, in the Jewitt Auditorium on the Albertson College campus in Caldwell. Friends may pay last respects Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel, 1205 West Bannock in Boise. The family extends grateful appreciation to Life's Doors Home Care Solutions and Life's Doors Hospice of Boise for their compassionate care during this time. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made in Kathryn's name to the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation.
Arthur R. Wilkes
Arthur R. Wilkes, born Sept. 14, 1903, at St. Paul, Minn., died Friday, March 16, 2001, in Folsom, Calif. A business executive for 40 years, he was also an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed an active 32-year retirement in Caldwell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances. He is survived by two daughters, Karen Smith and Joan Bush; four grandchildren, Allison Smith, Eric Smith, Jennifer Davis, and Bruce Bush; and five great-grandchildren, all of whom gave him great joy. Those who knew him will remember his integrity and gentle sense of humor.
Arthur Lowe Troutner
Arthur Lowe Troutner died Saturday, April 14, 2001, in a San Diego hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1921, at Pingree, Idaho, to Paul Henry Jr. and Olive Webster Troutner. He attended elementary school in this eastern Idaho farm community, often riding his horse to attend classes. There being no high school he transferred to Boise High School, living both with his grandmother and the Maude Cosho family. He sold his own homemade gingerbread to help finance his studies. After graduating he briefly attended Boise Junior College. During World War II, he joined the Army Air Force where he became an airplane mechanic stationed first in Dalhart, Texas, and then in Biloxi, Miss. After the war he returned to attend the University of Idaho from which he graduated in the field of architecture. Art, the master builder, designed and constructed interesting buildings, often referred to as romantic engineering; these included the Boise Little Theater, and numerous private homes and commercial establishments. During this architectural period he invented a cutting edge wood product and all of the machinery to produce his concept. This was the beginning of Truss Deck Corporation, later to be known as Truss Joist International Corporation with a large list of advanced engineered wood building products. This Boise-based corporation started by Art Troutner is now a subsidiary of Weyerhaeuser. Art received, nationwide, several honorary presentations for his architecture and creative wood products. The University of Idaho presented him with an honorary doctorate degree for his Kibbee Dome with its radically engineered skyframe design. The Idaho Statesman honored him with one of their Distinguished Citizen articles. Art's free moments were occupied with designing and inventing. He held in the neighborhood of 50 patents. He experimented with numerous concepts such as solar power, wind power, dirigibles, sailing boats and air cars. Art gave generously of time and money to many charitable organizations. He had great concern for the environment, the arts, and child welfare. Art is survived by a daughter, Tara Troutner Beehler of Ketchum; three sons, Arthur Troutner Jr. and Jim Cockey, both of McCall, and Charles Cockey of the Czech Republic; four grandchildren, Kelsey, Tom and Tegan Troutner, and Isreal Cockey, all of McCall; a sister, Virginia Schwitzer of Reno, Nev.; a brother, Roger of Boise; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul III and Jim Troutner of Boise. The family wishes to give their sincerest thanks to those individuals who, in their dad's last years, helped to make his life more comfortable. A special thank you to Art's brother, Roger, for taking such good care of all the major and minor details of his last years; to Bill Schneider for the exceptional and loving care he devoted to Art; to his sister, Virginia, for her enduring care, love, and loyalty to her brother. The family loved and admired Art. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Ave.; the reception to be held following the funeral at the Double Tree Riverside. Graveside service will be at a later date.
Arthur Lewis Moore
Arthur Lewis Moore, 98, of Nampa, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at a Nampa care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at the Cloverdale Funeral Home. Pastor Ed Kerschensteiner of the Boise Valley Church of the Brethren will officiate. Interment will follow at Cloverdale Memorial Park. He was born Sept. 19, 1902, at Carrol, Neb., the son of William A. and Minnie L. Moore. He was raised in Nebraska. He married Genevieve Adams on Oct. 20, 1926, at Yankton, S.D. The family moved to Idaho in 1938 and farmed for many years raising livestock and grain, until he started a custom grinding service in 1945, at which time the family moved to Meridian. He retired in 1983 and moved to Nampa in 1986 where his wife and he lived until the time of his death. Arthur loved fishing and raising a big garden. He also enjoyed going to the coffee shop and visiting with his many friends. He was truly a bright spot in our world. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve; two daughters, June Bowman and Jeanette Cornell, both of Nampa; two granddaughters, Patti Bowman of Boise and Linda Colunga of Nampa; and three great-grandchildren, Amber Bowman, Max Colunga and Anthony Colunga, all of Nampa. He was deeply loved by his family and a host of relatives and friends and will be deeply missed by all. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Leone Epperly and Janice Moore; his parents, William and Minnie Moore; one brother, Ray Moore; and one sister, Ethel Strom. The family suggests memorials be made to the Boise Valley Church of the Brethren, 4721 N. Star Road, Meridian 83642; or to a favorite charity.
Edith Cleo Hull Webb
Edith Cleo Hull Webb, 79, of Peck, Idaho died early Sunday morning, July 1, 2001 at the Hospice Acute Care Unit in Arlington, Va. Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N. Midland Blvd. Nampa. The family will greet friends at a viewing Friday, 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, 8-9 a.m. at the Zeyer Funeral Chapel. Interment will be held at the Emmett Cemetery. She was the daughter of John and Euretta Barnett Hull. She married Keith W. Webb in 1942 at Emmett, Idaho. She joined the American Legion Women's Auxiliary in 1949 and held the following positions: Assistant Sergeant-at-arms '50-'51, Historian '51-52, Civil Defense Chairman '52-53, Secretary '53-'54 and President '61-62. Keith and Cleo lived in Idaho until 1965 when they moved to Vancouver, Washington, and later to Annandale, Va. Although Cleo had several occupations, including: Rosie the Riveter during World War II, restaurant cook, dairy farmer, gas station owner and infant caregiver in a child care center, her favorite occupation was that of wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Curtis Hull, Elizabeth Hull Lopshire, William Hull, Orville Hull, Verla Hull Rosenlund and Keith Hull. She is survived by her husband, Keith and two sons: John W. Webb of Annandale, Virginia, and Richard W. Webb of Louisville, Ky., as well as four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and twenty nieces and nephews.
Edith Crookham McClain
Edith Crookham McClain, age 97, died May 16, 2001, in Ithaca, N.Y. She was born near Kearney, Neb., in 1904, the second of four children of George and Grace Crookham. The family moved to Caldwell, Idaho, in 1909, where her father started the Crookham Seed Co. Caldwell was already home to several Steunenbergs (her mother's family) who had founded a newspaper, a shoe shop and a bank. Her uncle, Frank Steunenberg, served as governor at the turn of the century. After attending the College of Idaho for two years, Edith moved to Seattle in 1929. In 1932 she took an automobile trip around the United States with her friend Nell Tobias, camping whenever a hotel room cost more than $2. She married Donald McClain in 1936. They lived in Spokane, Wash., raising two sons, Malcolm and John. Edith was a devoted member of PEO, Chapter CL, in Spokane. She is survived by her brother, Frank Crookham of Caldwell; her sons; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, in Boone Memorial Chapel, 406 S. 14th St, Caldwell.
Austin Moyle
Austin Moyle, 95, beloved husband of Mary, passed away peacefully July 14, 2001 in Boise, Idaho. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 20, 2001 in the Meridian Locust Grove L.D.S. Chapel, 3451 North Locust Grove, Meridian, ID. A viewing will precede the services from 9 - 10 a.m. at the L.D.S. Chapel. Austin was born in Alpine, UT, June 12, 1906 to Joseph Edward and Matilda Charlotta Hansen Moyle. Before coming to Meridian, Idaho in 1955, he lived in Pleasant Grove, Utah. While in Utah, his occupations included automobile mechanic, electrician, appliance store and garage owner, and home construction. In Meridian, he engaged in Mink farming, and the distribution of Shaklee products. On September 16, 1932, he married Mary Louise Evans in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of five children: Mary Ann (Ralph) Baker, Tucson, Ariz; Joseph Austin (Lynn) Moyle, Star, Idaho; Betty Louise (Paul) Versteeg, Laie, HI; Irene (deceased) (Richard) Jones; and Linda (Reed) Hanson, Boise, Idaho. Austin was blessed with twenty grandchildren and fifty-six great grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and father who loved his wife and children deeply and cared for all their needs Austin was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served the Lord in many capacities. He was a patriotic citizen and defender of the United States Constitution. He will be deeply missed by his wife, family and friends. The family wishes to extend appreciation to the many who have shown kindness and love to Austin. They are especially mindful of the loving attention of the caregivers at Life Care Center of Treasure Valley and Paramount Parks. He is preceded in death by his three sisters, six brothers, one daughter and one granddaughter.
