Ruthe P. Kanakoff
Born Ruth Geraldine Pearl on June 7, 1922 at 1:00 pm in Chicago, IL, Ruthe passed peacefully from this life on July 7, 2003 at 1:00 am at Life Care Center in Coeur d’Alene. Ruthe and her family moved from the eastern United States to Southern California when she was 14 years old. She continued to live in the Los Angles area for the next 63 years. Her daughter relocated her to Coeur d’Alene in 1999 where she resided at Loyalton Retirement Community with her cat “KK” until she entered Life Care Center in November of 2000.
Ruthe was preceded in death by her second husband, George P. Kanakoff. She is survived by her first husband (and father of her son and daughter), Charles H. Harris of Studio City, CA; her son, Richard Lee Harris of San Jose, CA; her daughter, Susan Rose Harris of Hayden, ID; her granddaughter, Jeanette Suzan Porter of Campbell, CA and her sister, Nonie Fagatt of Beverly Hills, CA.
Ruthe worked as an expediter at Lockheed aircraft manufacturing during WWII. After the war Ruthe worked with her husband Charles Harris, in their business, Yardbird Pickup Service, a trash pickup service. After the business became established she was able to become a full time homemaker. In later years, after her second marriage to George P. Kanakoff, she established and ran a Russian book store, Izbooshka. It wasn’t until her later years that she discovered her talents as fine craft person. She created and sold beautiful beaded and ribbon items for exclusive boutiques, rock and movie stars. She taught the fine art of French Beaded Wire Flowers and with her daughter produced an instructional video that is still available today (www.susyharris.com).
Ruthe loved animals, gardening and traveling. She could track “horn toad” lizards and dig them out of the sand. She once successfully nurtured a baby spotted harbor seal named Harold. Always the animal and nature lover she taught her children to climb rocks and trees and to enjoy nature. She even picked out a tree for the yard that had the “perfect” child height branches for climbing! Everyone that met Ruthe was enclosed in her magical circle of enthusiasm and interests. Those that came to know her in her later life were charmed by her love of the music group, The Grateful Dead. She was a true “Dead Head” and wore either her frog T-shirts or Grateful Dead colorful tie-dye shirts most all the time.
A memorial boat cruise on Lake Coeur d’Alene will be held on August 9, 2003 to celebrate Ruthe’s life. English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d’Alene and her daughter Susan Harris are in charge of the arrangements. Please contact English Funeral Chapel (www.englishfuneralchapel.com) at 208-664-3143 for more information.
Marvin Crigger
June 27, 1960 ~ July 10, 2003
Memorial Services were Saturday July 19, 2003, at the Silver Valley Worship Center in Smelterville, ID.
Marvin Paul Crigger, 43, Rose Lake, went to be with the Lord and his father on July 10, 2003.
He was born in Spokane to Larry and Rose (Ferger) Crigger. Marvin will be truly missed by everybody whoever had the good fortune to meet him.
He was raised a long-haired country boy from Post Falls and a graduate of Post Falls High School. The deer, elk and wild cutthroats can all breath a little easier now. Hell, yes, he was dirty ... he drove the Joe.
Marvin had just recently returned from the 20th annual "Post Falls, better late than straight, Fourth of July, St. Joe Fishin' Festival." Actually, Marvin was one of only two people to attend all 20 reunions. Truly a country boy.
Although he was a little rough and tumble to look at, this big gentle man had a heart as big as his Harley Davidson and his Harley was the biggest one ever made.
Truly to know him was to love him. His friends and relatives can at least take a little comfort knowing that in the twinkling of an eye, we will see his one-of-a-kind heart-warming smile again.
"When men are cast down, then thou shall say, 'there is lifting up; and He shall save the humble person'".
We miss you, Marvin. And leave some fish for us.
Marvin is survived by his mother Rose Breazeal of Pinehurst; brothers, Roger (Larry) Crigger, Cataldo, Marshall Crigger, Coeur d'Alene, Gene Crigger, Hayden Lake, and Greg Breazeal, Pinehurst; and sister Shelly Hansen Crigger, Post Falls.
He was preceded in death by his father Larry in 1978.
Marvin worked as a filer at a local sawmill. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his Harley Davidson motorcycle and karaoke.
Memorials may be made to Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club.
