New Plymouth - Donald Wesley Miller, 91, New Plymouth, passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at a care facility in Payette.
Funeral services with military honors will be held Thursday at 2 p.m., at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, New Plymouth.
Private family interment will be held at a later date in North Powder, Ore.

Cloketta ‘Cloe’ Elva Brough Briggs

Payette - After a long and wonderful life, Cloe passed away peacefully with family at her side.
She was born and raised in Lyman, Wyo. She married her eternal mate Robert Briggs June 2, 1939. She taught school in McKinnon, Wyo., and it is there that she met her husband and raised her family.
In later years, she and Robert moved to Manila, Utah. Robert and Cloe moved to Payette, Idaho, in 1997 to live with their daughter, Bonnie.
Cloe was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served a mission in Independence, Mo.
Cloketta was preceded in death by her son, Vance; husband, Robert; her parents, Thomas James and Julia Slagowski Brough; brothers and sisters, Lenore Denham, Dessa Richins, Arlene Guy, Blaine and Warren; and great-grandson, Bradley.
She is survived by sisters and brothers, Ursel Roundy, Bryon, Morris and Beverly Campbell; children, Eunice and Richard Haxton, Dale Briggs, and Bonnie and Duane Youngberg; 21 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
“Thank you for a lifetime of love, faith, understanding, knowledge, strength, wisdom and, sly unexpected humor. You have been a beautiful blessing in our lives.” Quote from granddaughter Tresea Briggs.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Payette.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Manila Cemetery in Manila, Utah.
Arrangements are with the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett.

June Helen Benedict

Nyssa - June Helen Benedict, 86, of Nyssa Ore., passed away at the home of her daughter Sept. 16, 2011.
June, the daughter of Sara Springer Gahan and Harry James Gahan, was born June 13, 1925, in Duchess, Alberta, Canada.
Her parents, along with a group of several of their farm families had moved to Canada from Kansas. All were hoping to find a better life. Instead, they found long harsh winters and farm land that didn't produce any better crops than what they had left behind.
In 1932, the new Owyhee Dam and its irrigation system opened. Surrounding land could now be watered and farmed. Acreage’s were parceled and homesteads were offered for sale. When June was 9 years old, the Gahans bought land near Nyssa, Ore. They built a small farm house and began clearing the land, eventually creating a profitable farm.
June graduated from Nyssa High School then went to Telegraphy School. She worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for several years.
In 1960, June met and married Dr. Robert (Bob) Benedict. For the rest of their lives, they worked and played side-by-side. First at their veterinary clinic, Ada Veterinary Hospital then later in retirement.
They both shared a love of the outdoors. Every weekend, weather permitting, they would load up the camper and boat and go fishing. Many of those weekends they stopped in Nyssa to pick up June’s dad, Harry. They were the Three Musketeers. June’s mom, Sara, would cook any and everything they brought home!
June and Bob retired early. They moved from Boise to Nyssa, Ore., to be close to her parents. Both loved to travel and once took a year long trip with another couple, exploring the United States. It was their great adventure.
In later years, they spent winters in Parker, Ariz., playing golf and enjoying the company of many other young minded, active snowbirds.
June was proceeded in death by her parents, Sara and Harry Gahan; her brother, Jim Gahan and her dearly beloved Bob in 2007.
June is survived by her daughter and daughter’s companion, Sherry Marshall and Jelena Vukoicic; grandsons, Todd and Mike Martell; great- grandchildren, Tasha Cox and Tory Martell.
The family wishes to thank XL Hospice, each and every one for their loving, kind, superior care.
Final arrangements were made by Summers Funeral Home.
No services will be held.
June’s last wishes were to donate her body to science-one last gift to others.

Lola Gay Howard Davis
Our beautiful mom was taken unexpectedly by angels during the early morning hours of October 1, 2011, much too soon: She hadn’t quite finished the book beside her or the jigsaw puzzle on the table; there were pole beans, tomatoes and roses waiting for her in her garden; the Saturday paper’s jumble and crossword puzzles were waiting on her front porch and there was a Boise State football game that afternoon (she loved her Broncos). She also kept lists, calendars, and address books marked with friends’ and family members’ birthdays and anniversaries, because she was always mailing cards with hand-written notes and letters.
Born on July 21, 1929, in Weiser, Idaho, to Lohman T. and Viola (Heuschkel) Howard, Lola went to first grade in Fruitland and second through 12th grades in Payette. In 1947 she graduated from Payette High School as class valedictorian, then attended Boise Junior College for two years on a Margaret Ailshie Statesman scholarship. She studied art and was a brilliant painter, sign-painter and letterer.
In November of 1949 she married her dreamy Payette policeman-turned-FBI agent, Frank Davis, from Weiser. They lived in Boise, and Kansas City, Missouri, before settling in Ontario, Oregon in 1953. In the 1970s she worked for Frank and Lela Blankinship as a bookkeeper. In 2005 she moved from her Ontario house of 43 years to her condo in Boise.
She was always perfect in her appearance, kept a perfect household, and was the perfect cook, baker, seamstress, gardener and hostess. It was hard not to be influenced by her in some way or another. She was a voracious reader, wrote daily and even won a slogan contest in Ontario for calling it “the farming place with a city pace.”
Lola’s 82nd birthday was spent in the hospital for a bleeding ulcer and blood transfusions. Maybe the ordeal was just too much for her heart, as big and generous as it was. She recovered, though, and we really thought she would live forever.
She is survived by her two children, Douglas B. Davis of Meridian and Dawn Rochelle Davis of Boise; a granddaughter, Jennika, and her husband, Shane Zenner of Mountain Home; two great-grandsons, Carter Douglas and Hudson Michael Zenner; her younger sister, Karen Johnston, of Denison, Texas; a brother-in-law, Jim Davis and his wife, Sue, of Weiser; Lynda Davis of Boise; Gary Smith of Boise; nephews Tim and Terry Warden, nieces Becky Spurling and Julie Archer; grand-dogs Mugsy, Sammy, Sally, Dudley and Phoebe. She was mom to her “adopted” and extended family: Pam Davis, Dan Bain, Netti Davis Grogan, Karen Samuelson, Francie Loveall and Janet May and had many wonderful life-long friends, neighbors, new friends and new neighbors.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Davis, her parents, her in-laws Ed and Gertrude Davis of Weiser; an older sister, Myra Warden and brother-in-law Johnny Warden of Payette and brother-in-law George Davis of Weiser.
Graveside services will be held at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Weiser, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2011.

OBITUARY: JoAnn Miller
70, Moscow resident
JoAnn (Jody) Miller, after a long bout with cancer, died Oct. 12 at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow, Idaho.
She is survived by her sons, Eric and Jeffrey Engerbretson, who mourn her passing and remember her as a loving, caring, and involved mother.
Missing and loving her is her devoted daughter-in-law, Sylvia, her three cherished grandsons, Ian, James, and Alec, and her beloved granddaughter, Amie. Also left with many happy memories are her sister, Ione, and brother-in-law, Randy.
JoAnn was born on Aug. 14, 1937, to Mabel and Ray Hanson at their farm home near Bingham Lake, Minn. She attended the Bingham Lake Elementary School and graduated from Windom High School in 1955. Jody was crowned Windom Flax Queen in her senior year. She graduated from Macalester College in 1959 with a bachelor of science degree and received her master's degree in 1979 from the University of Idaho.
She married David Engerbretson on Oct. 25, 1958, at the American Lutheran Church in Windom and gave birth to two sons in the following seven years. The family moved to Moscow in 1972, where JoAnn taught sixth grade at Russell Elementary School until 1985. The marriage ended in 1980 and JoAnn eventually moved to Fayetteville, N.C., to live close to her sister, Ione. She married James Miller in 1985. She relocated to Windom, Minn., to assist her stepmother, Harriet Hanson, during Harriet's struggle with cancer. During that time, she enjoyed working as a reporter and columnist for the Windom Citizen.
JoAnn was a talented and committed reading specialist at Holbrook Elementary School at Ft. Bragg, N.C., from 1988 to 2002. Upon retirement, she moved back to Moscow to be near Eric, Sylvia, and her grandsons. She lived the rest of her life there, surrounded by her family and longtime friends.
Jody had a remarkable ability to make lasting friendships that flourished even when separated by thousands of miles. Friends from all over the country will never forget her love, sparkling sense of humor and deep loyalty.
Jody took a great deal of interest, pleasure and pride in her grandchildren and their accomplishments. She enjoyed attending her grandsons' school and church activities and watching them excel in their athletic endeavors. She took a lively interest in her granddaughter's dance performances and participation in high school musicals. Jody was an avid community theatre actress, singer, and crew member as well as a creative backstage set- and costume-designer. She also enjoyed jazz festivals, Huckleberry Red Hat functions, traveling, reading, music, and a variety of crafts.
The Emmanuel Lutheran Church circle, Pastor Dean Stewart, Pastor Dawna Svaren, and the church choir were very important parts of her life. She was close to many members of the church and delighted in the Bible study group.
To paraphrase Mr. Emerson, she laughed often and much, won the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, appreciated beauty, found the best in others, and left the world a better place. Many lives are brighter because she lived. She is dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
Her memorial service will take place at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Moscow on Tuesday evening, Oct. 16, at 5:30 p.m., with a reception immediately following in the church's fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Fund at Emmanuel Lutheran Church (1036 West A Street, Moscow, ID 83843) or The Community Christ Ministries (516 South Main Street, Moscow, ID 83843) or The Historical Museum of Cottonwood County (812 4th Avenue, Windom, MN 56101).
The family would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to the wonderful staff at Gritman for the expert and gentle care given to Jody, with special thanks to Dr. Ruby.
OBITUARY: Gertrude Sneve
99, Kendrick resident
Gertrude (Langhus) Sneve of Kendrick, Idaho, died Saturday morning, Oct. 20, 2007, at Aspen Park Healthcare in Moscow. She was 99 years old.
Gertrude was born the middle of seven children to Ludvig and Anne Sofia Grosfjeld Langhus on Jan. 20, 1908, in Shelly, Minn. She grew up working on the family farm and at the age of 14, chose to take on the responsibility of caring for her ailing mother and younger brothers. After several years, one of Gertrude's brothers came home to take care of the farm and she enrolled at the Lutheran Brothers Bible Institute of Minneapolis, Minn. Upon graduation two years later, she moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and worked at the Coeur d'Alene Homes nursing home. She started working as a nurse's assistant while at the same time training to receive her nursing license.
In 1952, Melvin Sneve and some other farmers from the Bear Ridge area were donating extra produce to the nursing home where Gertrude worked. He took a fancy to her and came to visit on several occasions. They were married in December of 1952 and settled on Melvin's farm where she helped him work for many years. Two years after Mr. Sneve's death in 1980, Gertrude moved to town in Kendrick and resumed her nursing career. She continued to give in-home nursing care until she was 82.
Gertrude is survived by son, Nels Sneve and his wife, Alana, of Kendrick; grandsons, Chad Sneve and wife, Julie, of Senoia, Ga., Adam Sneve and wife, Heather, of Kendrick and Kevin Sneve and wife, Shannon, of Lewiston; great grandchildren, Gillian, Abigail, Kylee, Alex, Maia and Dylon; step-great-grandchildren, Ashley, Alexis and Collin; and a brother, Eddie and Inez Langhus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Almer, Gunnar and Louie Langhus; and sisters, Tallie Gunderson and Grace Knudtson.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow, with burial to follow at Bethany Memorial Chapel with a luncheon served by the Cameron Emmanuel Lutheran Church at the Kendrick Senior Center Meal site. The family suggests memorials to the Kendrick-Juliaetta Ambulance Fund or to Bethany Memorial Chapel.
