Alice Rosemond (Boyd) Baugh

Burley - Alice Rosemond (Boyd) Baugh died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at a Boise care center.
Alice was born June 1, 1914, in Cottonwood Point, Mo., to Francis M. and Hallie A. Boyd. The family moved to Rupert, Idaho, when she was 3 by joining a wagon train to Arizona where they then took the train to Rupert.
The family moved to Burley when she was in high school where she graduated in 1932.
She married William Baugh Jr. Jan. 16, 1933, in Brigham City, Utah. They joined the Baugh family farm at Unity until Bill decided to go back to Utah State College at Logan. After he graduated, they returned to the family farm.
Her son, Grant, was born in Burley in 1941, and a daughter, Sally, followed in 1945. In 1947, they moved to Mountain Home where Bill was in the tire business. In 1950, they returned to Burley, and soon afterward Bill was elected county registrar and clerk of the County Court. Alice opened and operated the Burley Welcome Wagon business, greeting newcomers to Burley.
In 1955, Bill was appointed state director of the Farmers Home Administration, and the family moved to Boise, where they lived until 1961. During those years, she was very active in the groups that played bridge in Boise. For a time, she taught bridge and contract bridge at her home. She followed Bill to both Reno and Winnemucca, Nev., where he worked for the Bureau of Land Management.
They returned to Burley after Bill retired. For many winters, they were snowbirds, running off to Yuma where they enjoyed the weather and the company of many friends. After Bill passed away in 1993, she continued to go south in the winter and return to her home and beloved flower gardens each summer.
Her flowers and her beautiful Burley home that she and Bill had built in the early ’50s were very important to her. She never went anywhere that she didn’t take some of her “pet” flowers with her. Many times while coming back from Yuma in the spring, her flowers had to be unloaded every night along the way so that they didn’t freeze in the car.
She was always looking for a new floral display to beautify the inside of her home.
She was the last surviving member of her family, which included four brothers, Francis Miller, Luther B., Charles Edward and Roy Oliver Boyd.
She is survived by her daughter, Sally Savaglio (Bruce), of Boise; and her son, Grant Baugh (Joan), of Ontario; her grandchildren, Anthony Savaglio (Denise), of Yorba Linda, Calif., Erik Baugh (Dianna), of Kuna, Idaho, and Gina Egolf, of Trail, B.C., Canada; and great-grandchildren, Luca and Selma Savaglio, Mary Alice Egolf and Jordan Smith Baugh.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Hansen Payne Mortuary, 321 East Main St. Burial will follow the services at Pleasant View Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
Gertrude Wood Benson
April 16, 1905 - April 7, 2009
New Plymouth - Gertrude Wood Benson, 103, New Plymouth, suffered a stroke and passed away quietly Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at her home in New Plymouth, nine days before her 104th birthday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1st Ward, New Plymouth. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the church, prior to services. Interment will follow at Park View Cemetery, New Plymouth. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, New Plymouth.
She was the youngest child, born on April 16, 1905, to Willard A. and Eva Wood Bird in Minersville, Utah. She married Nathan Benson on June 9, 1925. They were married 24 years when Nathan succumbed to Landry’s Paralysis in 1949. They had one child, Afton (Penny). She later married widower Roy Benson on March 4, 1953. They were married 25 years until Roy’s death in 1978. She lived in Parowan, Utah, for most of her life but moved to Idaho for health reasons.
Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Afton (Penny) Nelson; stepchildren, Ralph (Linda) Benson and Roy (Jackie) Benson; grandchildren, Deborah Oliveira, Micky Micheli, Darrel Christie, Shane Christie, Curtis White and Michelle White and their families.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Nathan Benson and Roy Benson; sisters, Vera and Ruth; granddaughter, Wendi Jo Orton; and five stepchildren.
She was well known for her quilts, doilies and her famous scrubbers. She did alterations for many years in Utah. She was well loved by anyone who met her.
Geneva Marie Auker

New Plymouth - Geneva Marie Auker, 92, Salem, formerly of New Plymouth, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009, in Keizer, Ore. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009, at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, New Plymouth. Geneva was born Jan. 25, 1917, in Kansas City, Kan., to Fred and Rose Ella Nichols. At an early age, the family moved west, settling in the Payette area. She graduated from Payette High School, marrying Leland Auker on April 4, 1936, in Payette.
She is survived by two sons, Dean (Ann) Auker, of Marysville, Wash., and Dennis (Dawn) Auker, of Salem; nine grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Fred Nichols.
Gerald Gordon 'Jerry'
Feb. 2, 1930 - March 27, 2009
Payette - Gerald “Jerry” Gordon, 79, Payette, passed away Friday, March 27, 2009, in Payette. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wed-nesday, April 1, 2009, at the Church of Christ in Fruitland, with Herman Pope officiating. Gerald Gordon was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Mesilla Park, N.M., to Jackson A. and Bessie V. Gordon. He was reared on a small irrigated cotton and alfalfa farm near Mesilla Park. He graduated from Las Cruces Union High School in 1947 and from New Mexico State University in 1952 with a bachelor of science degree in horticulture. Additional graduate work was done in 1955. He served as an Air Force officer with an air cargo unit in Japan during the Korean War. He was married to Carol Ady in 1954. They settled down in Mesilla Park where Gerald worked for a landscaping firm. In 1957, he began his career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Soil Conservation Service headquartered in Clovis, N.M. After a year’s training in Clovis, he was transferred to Las Cruces, N.M., where he worked for the next four years as a soil conservationist assisting farmers and ranchers with soil and water conservation problems. During the next 25 years, he worked as a district conservationist in Capitan, Artesia and Albuquerque, N.M., Halifax, N.C. and Caldwell, retiring in 1986. Upon his retirement, Gerald received the USDA Distinguished Service Award. His wife, Carol, died in 1985. Gerald married Donna Barrow in October of 1986. During the ensuing years of retirement, Gerald and Donna enjoyed extensive traveling in the U.S. and several foreign countries. They also contributed considerable time to the hospice program. His hobbies were gardening, landscaping and traveling. Gerald was a member of the Fruitland Church of Christ.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters, Cheryle Brown and Kimberly Engelbrecht; and son, Timothy Gordon. He is also survived by six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

Bradley David Abbe ‘Brad'
June 11, 1987 - April 4, 2009
Sweet, Idaho - The Lord took Bradley David “Brad”Abbe home on Saturday, April 4, 2009, near College Station, Texas. He passed away from injuries sustained in an auto accident while traveling to a bull riding event. He was 21 years old.
Brad was born on June 11, 1987, in Boise, to David and April Abbe. He spent most of his life in the Treasure Valley. As a teen and young adult, he spent a great deal of time in Sweet, Idaho, at the most loved place he knew, “The Last Chance Ranch.” The Lord put Brad on this earth to be a cowboy. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, roping and riding. He was a talented horse trainer but his first love was bull riding. Brad won many awards and honors riding bulls, riding broncs and team roping. Brad was a member of the Idaho District II High School Rodeo Association, The Idaho Cowboys Association, and was a 2008 team member of the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Rodeo Team. Brad loved little children, horses, rodeos, his family and friends from coast to coast, which we can not begin to count. He always had a dog by his side and had a special love for his border collie, “Miss Kate.” Brad was a free spirit who loved life and lived every day to the fullest as he believed that when his time was up the Lord would come get him and take him home.
Brad will be deeply missed forever and ever by his family and friends. He always had a story to tell (usually about bull riding), and there was never a lack of conversation when he was in the room.
Brad is survived by the love of his life, Kenna Lynn Muchow; parents, David Abbe, Douglas and April Moats; sisters, Heather Kime, Cheryl Padilla and husband, Brian, Kimberlee Kuhlman and husband, Travis; brother, Matthew Abbe; grandparents, Ken Abbe, Josie Abbe, Jim Abbe, Virginia Abbe, Thomas Guinard, Larry and Karen Moats; along with many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Brad was also a part of two more special families, Todd, Nan, Brittney and Paige Edmindson and Devon, Sue, Keri, Kenna and Chase Muchow.
Family and friends can say goodbye to Bradley from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009, at the Potter Funeral Chapel 228 E. Main St., Emmett. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, at the Emmett Middle School Auditorium, 301 E. Fourth St., Emmett. Burial will follow at the Sweet Cemetery
in Sweet, Idaho. A reception and celebration of Brad's life will be held after the graveside service at the Last Chance Ranch, 7225 Butte Road in Sweet, Idaho.
Geneva Marie Auker

Mildred Arlene Grabner

New Plymouth - Mildred Arlene Grabner, 88, entered the presence of her Savior, the Lord Jesus, on Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at her home in New Plymouth.
A public viewing will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Haren-Wood Chapel in Payette. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at Parkview Cemetery
in New Plymouth, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. at Bible Faith Fellowship Church in New Plymouth.
Arlene was born on Sept. 16, 1920, in Crosby, Wyo., to Homer Garfield Johnson and Jessie Estella Van Dusen Johnson. At age 5, she moved with her family to Cottage Grove, Ore. They decided to return to Wyoming in 1927 but made it no further than Emmett, Idaho. The family later settled on a farm in New Plymouth, and she graduated as salutatorian of her high school class in 1937. On Feb. 22, 1939, Arlene married the love of her life, Wayne Elroy Grabner. They were married for 50 years. For a time, the couple worked for Arlene's brother, Lloyd, as lab technicians. In 1960, she began 25 years of faithful service in the research and development department of Ore-Ida.
Arlene loved to teach Sunday school, sing in the choir, play piano, lead Bible studies and encourage people of all ages to follow the Lord Jesus. She was a faithful prayer warrior. When ill-health confined her mostly to her home, she continued to participate in church services via TV and radio. She delighted in flowers, birds, her faithful cats, poetry and books.
Arlene is preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Lloyd Ellis Johnson; and sister, Elsa King Lester.
She is survived by her adopted daughter, Lynne, of Washington; her nephews and nieces, Kay, DeLane and Juni, Arlen, Jerin, Alan, Darrel, Loeta, Janet, and Lila Howard and husband, Glen, who have been her faithful caregivers for 20 years, as well as other special friends and relatives.
Thank you to those who, with loving hands, helped her on her final journey — nieces, Loeta, Rhoda and Heidi Johnson, Lila, and Pathways Hospice personnel. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Gideons or a hospice of your choice.

Parma - Richard J. Peck, 76, Parma, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at home. Memorial graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Road, Boise.
Mary Louise Fretwell

Baker City - Mary Louise Fretwell, 99, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at her home in Settlers' Park, Baker City.
At Mary's request, there will be no funeral. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
Mary was born in Collinsville, Okla., on Nov. 4, 1909, to Leona and John Durall. The family moved to Harney Valley, Ore., in 1912. In 1918, they moved to Fruitland. Mary and Earl Lyle Fretwell were married on June 22, 1929. They were farmers in the Fruitland area. She lived in Fruitland until 1995, when she moved to Baker City to be closer to her daughter, Betty Sissel.
Mary is survived by daughters, Betty Sissel, of Baker City, and Lana Lueschow, of Maple Valley, Wash.; two grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, and a granddaughter.
