Lorraine Barker
Jan. 29, 1939 - July 15, 2009
Fruitland - Lorraine Barker, age 70, of Fruitland, celebrated her first day in heaven Wednesday, July 15, 2009. She was lovingly surrounded by her caring family. A viewing for family and friends will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. A service of tribute honoring Lorraine will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2009, at the Payette Church of the Nazarene. Graveside services will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Payette.

Lorraine was born Jan. 29, 1939, in Mound Valley, Kan., to A.C. and Gladys Turner. Her family moved from Kansas to Idaho when Lorraine was 7 years old. She married Ralph Barker on Nov. 22, 1957. They lived and raised their three children in Fruitland these past 52 years.
Lorraine grew up as a pastor’s daughter and, in her adult life, gave 52 faithful years as a member of Payette Church of the Nazarene. She retired in 2004 after 26 years at the Department of Labor in Payette. She was a devoted wife to her husband, a dedicated homemaker and mother to her children and grandchildren and was always a faithful prayer warrior and committed servant of God.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Ralph; two sons, Kevin Barker and Marty Barker and wife, Melanie; a daughter, Carma McGehee, and husband, Rod; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Ron Turner; a sister, Genevieve Robinson; and an abundance of loving family and friends.
Those who have gone on before her were her parents; a baby granddaughter, Colleen; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy.
The family wishes to express our overwhelming gratitude to all those at Heart ’n Home Hospice of Fruitland for the compassionate care to Mom and her family these past months. We are humbled by the blessing you have been to each of us and especially to Mom.

William Orval Dewey
December 23, 1920-July 28, 2009
Payette - William Orval Dewey, age 89, of Payette, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at home. A viewing for friends and family will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 30 at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 31 at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Payette.
Orval was born December 23, 1920 in Trenton, Nebraska to Lewis LeRoy Dewey and Addie Mae Terrell Dewey. He was the sixth child in a family of eleven children. The family lived on a farm in Nebraska for eight years, then went to Wyoming for five years. The family moved to Payette in 1935.
During his teen years he worked in the fields and did roofing. He met Wilma Hall in the Payette Nazarene Church and they were married on May 15, 1940. His first Child, Terrence, was born on October 15, 1942 and passed away September 1944. Orval worked in Hermiston driving truck at the ammunition depot. After that he went to work for Union Pacific railroad and Orval and Wilma moved to Weiser during that time. Orval joined the Army in 1944 and served in World War II in the Pacific. In 1946 he returned from Saipan. His second son, Stacey was born in 1947 and daughter, Renče was born in 1950.
He went to work for DeBord Construction and worked for them until he retired. Orval loved to do cabinet work and grow a big garden.
Sharing his garden with those he loved brought him real joy. He was the Sunday school superintendent for Payette Church of the Nazarene for 30 years. Orval dedicated his life to his church and gave it many hours of his labor and time.
Orval lost his wife of 68 years in December 2008 and was also preceded in death by three sisters, four brothers and two sons.
He is survived by two sisters, Ada Redlock of Kuna and Mary Wutzl of Friday Harbor, WA; a brother, Kenneth Dewey of Springhill, TN; a daughter, Renče Dewey of Middletown, CA; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

James Michael Sweet ‘Mike’
March 31, 1952-Aug. 2, 2009
Payette - James Michael “Mike” Sweet died on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at age 57, from complications of liver cancer in Payette, Idaho.
Mike was born in Missouri on March 31, 1952, to James and Lois Sweet.
Mike lived in Payette, Idaho since 1996. Mike was a brick and stone mason. He was part of the teams that built several buildings in both the Payette and Boise areas. He also worked on the remodel of the Capitol building.
He was, above all else, a family man. He loved his children and grandchildren.
His favorite pastime was to blow bubbles in the back yard with his grandchildren.
Mike was a good-hearted, loving man who will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Mike is survived by his parents, James and Lois Sweet, of Missouri; his wife, Debbie Sweet, of Payette, Idaho; sons, Jeremy Sweet, of Payette, Idaho, Nathan Sweet, of Tahoe, Calif., Ben Sweet of Kelso, Wash., and Brett Sweet, of Payette, Idaho; daughters, Brook Brawner of Meridian, Idaho, Aubrey Sweet of Kelso, Wash., Amber Valdivia, of Banning, Calif., Amie Crookston, of Redlands, Calif., and Autum Clark, of Payette, Idaho. Mike was expecting his 15th grandchild in December.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at the Payette Church of the Nazarene, at 1980 Seventh Ave. N. in Payette, Idaho.
Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to Wells Fargo Bank in the name of James Sweet.

Bernice M. McLay Young
April 22, 1917 - Aug. 2, 2009
Vale - Bernice M. McLay Young, of Vale, passed away Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at the age of 92. She was born on April 22, 1917, to Howard H. and Olive M. McLay at a homestead west of Vale, Ore. She attended Vale High School and, in September 1934, married Orval M. Feldtman, also of Vale. They had three children.
She was preceded in death by both parents; her sister, Dorothy (Dorathea McLay Brown); five brothers, George G., of Payette, Elmer E., of Vale, Thomas R., of Portland, Ore., L. Dean, of Huntington, Ore., and Leroy S., of Alaska; as well as a son, Orval Delaine Feldtman, of Tacoma, Wash.
She is survived by two daughters, Terry Feldtman Sizelove, of Ontario, and Victoria K (Vicki) Feldtman Ross, of Twin Falls, Idaho; and a brother, John H. (Jake) McLay, of Homer, Alaska; five granddaughters; three grandsons; and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She married Harold E. (Bud) Young, of Los Angeles, in 1974, and they retired to Sandpoint, Idaho, for nearly 20 years before moving to Meridian, Idaho. After he passed away in 1997, she moved to Ontario, Ore., and later returned to Vale to Pioneer Place where she has lived for the last 15 months.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at the Vale Church of the Nazarene.
Donald Lee Bennett
Jan. 20, 1930-Sept. 6, 2009
New Plymouth - Donald Lee Bennett, age 79, of New Plymouth, passed away Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 at Holy Rosary Medical Center. A visitation and vigil for family and friends will be held Wednesday, Sept.9, 2009 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Mass of a Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Fruitland with Fr. Calvin Blankinship as celebrant.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, New Plymouth.

Don was born on January 20, 1930 in Orofino, Idaho to Floyd and Helen Bennett. He enlisted in the United States Navy on March 30, 1948 and served on the USS John A. Bole destroyer. Don was honorably discharged on February 28, 1952. Don married Beverly Stuart on Sept. 17, 1950 and together they had three daughters, Gail, Terri, and Pam. Don followed his childhood dream of being a truck driver. He drove for NACA and Parsons trucking for 40 years.
He married Mary Saldana on Jan. 3, 2005 in Payette. They have since made their home in New Plymouth. Don enjoyed traveling, coin and antique model car collecting.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Bennett; three daughters, Gail (Steve) Keller of Nampa, Terri (Moodey) Gross and Pam (Alan) Ball all of New Plymouth; three sisters, Karen (Larry Peterson, Anita (Tom) Stephens and Gerri Fred) Hasch; seven step-children; 32 grandchildren including Heather Phillips, Tiffany Patterson and Ryan Ball; 36 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded by death by his mother, Helen Carpenter, step-father Larry Carpenter, wife, Beverly, and father, Floyd Bennett.

Cody Allen Soule
March 14, 1989- July 12, 2009
Fairbanks, Alaska - Cody Soule was born March 14, 1989, to Kenneth S. and Laurie Lynn Soule at Ft Polk, La. His early childhood consisted of a simple life with his family on a remote ranch in Harney County, Oregon. He often would stay with his grandparents in Payette and was fond of his memories there. At the age of 8, he moved, with his family to Fairbanks, Alaska, and at the age of 13 he had a job working on motorcycles at Fine Tuned Wheels, a local motorcycle shop in Fairbanks, Alaska. At the age of 16 he was accepted to Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Phoenix, Ariz., where he spent the next two years of his life, graduating with full accreditation from Harley Davidson at the age of 18. At the time of his death in a tragic auto accident, he was working in his chosen profession as a mechanic at Alaska Fun Center.
Cody loved shooting, fishing, camping, snow machining and motorcycles. He really dug old- time rock and roll and heavy metal music, as well as classic country. Cody leaves behind his parents, Laurie Lynn and Kimberly Soule, and step-father, David Hendrickson; three sisters, Jessica and Justice Soule and Jericho Soule-Hendrickson; two brothers, Clancy and Colt Soule, all of Fairbanks; and his grandfather, Milton Soule, of Payette, Idaho.
Dr. John H. Jensen
March 22, 1936-July 5, 2009
Kuna - Dr. John H. Jensen, 73, passed away at home on Sunday, July 5, 2009, surrounded by his loving family after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
John was born to Dorothy Mowrey and John H. Jensen Sr. on March 22, 1936, in Cadillac, Mich. John’s mother, widowed at 18, married Russell Austin. John had 12 brothers and sisters from that marriage.
John married Hattie Mae Lowe in 1957, having one son, John H. (Yvonne) Jensen III. In 1962, John married Judith Bond and adopted her three children: Jeffery Jensen (Wendy Shendledecker), Richard Jon Jensen and Carla (Dan) Sanford. They were blessed with two children, Elisabeth (Richard) Malerich and Nancy (Martin) Espinoza. John married Linnie Cowan in 1977. They shared 31 beautiful years together and completed the family with one son, James D. (Sharina) Jensen. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Freeman and Jimmy Austin; his wives, Hattie Mae and Judith; and son Rickey Jensen.
After graduating from Mesick High School in Michigan, he went to Western Michigan University to earn a bachelor's degree in social science followed by a master of science in elementary education. He then attended the University of Oregon to gain his Ph.D. in elementary education.
His military service was with the Michigan Army National Guard as sergeant E-5 with the 156th Signal Battalion, which was called into duty when the Berlin Wall was constructed.
John was employed by Boise State University from 1967 until June of 2000, when he retired. During his employment at BSU, he served as a professor of education, department chairman, director of the Center for Multicultural and Educational Opportunities and interim associate dean of the department of education. After retiring, he became an assistant to the president of Treasure Valley Community College (2000 to 2009), where he was able to help people continue their education. John was proud of his work with the High School Equivalence Program and College Migrant Assistant Program, which provided education to students of migrant farm laborers and first generation college students. John developed a talent for writing grants to fund his passion for first-generation college students.
John was the first recipient of the Larry Selland Humanitarian Award given at BSU. This was especially meaningful because of the long time friendship he shared with Larry.
John was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt with his family. His love for the outdoors was infectious, and he mentored many youth through the Boy Scouts. His favorite BSA position was scoutmaster, however, he held many positions over the years. He received his Silver Beaver in 1998 and was inducted into the Ore-Ida Council Boy Scouts Hall of Fame in 2008.
John was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the bishopric at the time of his death.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the John Jensen Migrant Education Scholarship at Boise State University or the John Jensen Memorial Fund at the Boy Scouts of America.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009, in the Kuna 6th Ward LDS Chapel, 3305 W. Kuna Road, Kuna. A viewing will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the church and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services on Wednesday. Interment will be at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
