Ila Mae Long

Weiser - Ila Mae Long, 67, known as a pioneer for women truck drivers, died in her sleep Monday, November 8, 2010.
Born in Nampa, Idaho, to Robert and Vila Morgan on Oct. 12, 1943, Ila started driving trucks in the mid-60’s in a profession that was predominantly occupied by men at the time. For 30 years she had a passion for driving long stretches on the road and was known as “Long Legs” from the West to the East coast. Her sense of adventure was piqued each time she took a different route and had the opportunity to meet new people. Colleagues say Ila never met a stranger in all those years, and that she considered everyone she met along the road as her friend. Later in her career, Ila continued her love for the road by serving local veterans as a driver and dispatcher for the Payette Chapter of the Department of Veterans Affairs. She cared greatly for all those she worked with and was passionate about serving veterans.
Residing primarily in Idaho, Iowa and Utah, Ila Mae spent the last 12 years of her life in Weiser, Idaho, with her cherished mother and friends. She was known for her creative spirit, generosity to others, commitment to friendship and love of gardening.
Ila is survived by her four children, Donice Reed, Darla Griffeth, Coby Long and Kellie Goodwin, as well as her five grandchildren, Jake Barton, Whitney Loges, Cade Barton, Alyxandra Taylor and Ana Sophia Long.
She is survived by her mother, Vila Morgan, of Weiser, Idaho; and two siblings, Keith Morgan of Midvale, Idaho, and Jim Morgan, of La Grande, Ore. She is survived by five nieces, Tammi Bilbao, Jeannie Morgan, Brooke Morgan, Sandi Jacobson and Bentley Morgan-Simek.
She is preceded in death by her father; Robert Morgan (1994), and her first granddaughter, Morgan Loges (1983). Memorial services for friends and family will be held in the spring of 2011, where Ila will be laid to rest in the Midvale Cemetery.
Preston L. Weikal

Payette - Preston L. Weikal, 94, Payette, passed away Saturday in Payette, Idaho. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Cemetery, Payette, Idaho.
He was born Jan. 8, 1916, in Bucklin, Kan. to Harry D. Weikal and Anna Redd-Weikal.
Preston was raised on the family homestead in Kiowa County, attended high school in Bucklin and went to Dodge City Junior college where he earned a teaching degree.
He taught in a one-room school house near Sublette, Kan. where he met Cleo Brown, also a teacher. They were married May 19, 1940, in Dodge City. They had three children, Marlin, Stanley, and Rita.
Preston worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in Dalhart, Texas, for a time, then the family returned to the farm before moving to Cowiche, Wash. in 1946.
He began a 35 year career in banking with the National Bank of Commerce in Yakima, Wash, retiring from Rainier National Bank Poulsbo Branch in 1981.
He and Cleo moved to Payette in 1999 to be near sons, Stanley and Marlin. Cleo passed away on May 17, 2005.
Preston was also preceded in death by brothers, Edward and Willis. He is survived by sisters, Mildred Rice, of Wichita, Kan., and Mary Daley of Mattoon, Ill.; two sons, Marlin Weikal, of Payette, Idaho and Stanley Weikal, of Midvale, Idaho; daughter, Rita Weikal of Castro Valley, Calif.; and granddaughter, Laura Supica of San Francisco, Calif.

Mildred Marguerite (McClintic) Moore

Payette - Mildred Marguerite (McClintic) Moore, age 94, of Payette, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, at a local care facility. A viewing will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Burial will follow at Rosedale Memorial Gardens, Payette.
Mildred was born on Aug. 27, 1916, to Henry Ebert McClintic and Letitia Malinda (Clapper) McClintic. Mildred was born at her parents’ home on a farm at Monday Gulch near Indian Valley, Idaho. A sister, Dorothy May McClintic on June 30, 1918 joined her. Mildred and her sister were close friends and companions as well as sisters. Mildred grew up on the farm, helping with the many chores and other farm work. She helped her father in the fields planting and harvesting crops. During Mildred’s growing up years, she and her sister found many things to do to occupy their time. They rode horses and even had a favorite cow that allowed them riding her. When Mildred was six years old, she started school, at Pleasant View School in Indian Valley, Idaho. She met Waymon Elwin Moore at this school. Waymon said the first thing he remembered about Mildred was the big red bow she wore in her hair when she started school. Mildred and Waymon began dating when she was sixteen. They were married May 12, 1936. Mildred and Waymon made their home in Indian Valley until 1945, where they farmed and raised pigs. During this time, Mildred began her first experiences in helping to deliver babies by assisting her sister-in-law, Louise Higley deliver her first three babies. With that knowledge, she began helping the local doctor with other births in the area. Mildred and Waymon did not have children of their own, however, they were always surrounded by their many nieces and nephews and neighborhood children. Mildred loved her nieces and nephews as her own and treasured them all equally. Each one had a special place in her heart and in her life.
In 1945, Mildred and Waymon moved to Payette, where they continued to farm and raise pigs. During this time, Mildred went to work for a local cannery. She and Waymon worked at the local fruit packing sheds. They also worked at the Country Club on Killebrew Drive, which was famous for its fried chicken recipes. Waylon and Mildred prepared the chickens for cooking. They also did general cleaning there. Mildred and Waymon moved to Fruitland in 1955 where they operated a large apple and prune orchard farm. In 1966, while still living on the fruit farm, Mildred went to work at Ore-Ida Frozen Foods in Ontario, Ore. They moved back to Payette in 1973 and became busy with other activities. They joined the Senior Citizen Center in Payette, where Mildred became helping at the center’s thrift shop. She continued doing this until shortly before she sold her home in the spring of 2008. Mildred and Waymon loved to dance and never missed a chance to go dancing. They also enjoyed fishing and spent many happy times fishing together. They were a close and loving couple, and enjoyed being able to celebrate 54 years of marriage before Waymon passed away. During the next 17 years, Mildred continued to keep busy. She joined a craft club, went to senior citizen’s activities and attended her church, St. Johns United Church of Christ. She kept in touch with her many family members by sending cards and letters and talking to them on the phone. She made many crafts, which she shared generously with all her extended family. She kept genealogy records of her family. Mildred also kept many scrapbooks and picture albums, which are filled with wedding and birth announcements, obituaries, family pictures and other family information. All who knew Mildred loved her.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Glydeth (Moore) Dutton, Klamath Falls, Ore., Louise (Moore) Higley, Union, Ore, Jewell (Moore) Woods, Council, Idaho, Doris (Moore) Jeffries, McCall, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Albert Cameron Davey

Payette - Albert Cameron Davey, age 93, Payette, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010. A viewing will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., today, Aug. 29, 2010, at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at Rosedale Memorial Gardens, Payette. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Albert was born Sept. 26, 1916, in Clayton, N.Y. He moved from New York State to Payette, Idaho, when he was 11 years old and graduated from Payette High School in 1937. Albert worked for Western Union as a messenger boy, later he went to California to work for McDonald Douglas, building airplanes. He got his Merchant Marine Certificate to work on ocean-going ships. He then enlisted in the Navy in 1942. During his time in the Navy he was assigned to a destroyer named the USS Claxton. Albert attended reunions with the USS Claxton’s crew. Albert was discharged from the Navy in 1945 and returned to Payette where he went to work for the City in 1946. He retired October 1978. He was also a volunteer fireman for 12 years. He and his sister, Lois, enjoyed fishing and camping and spending times at Cathedral Pines Baptist Camp north of Ketchum, Idaho. Albert was an avid Ham radio operator and spent many hours conversing with other operators in the U.S. and abroad. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Payette from the early 1930’s until his death. Albert is preceded in death by his biological father; his mother, and step-father, Lottie and George Luther; his sister, Lois Luther; and his brother, Roger Luther. Todd Allen Hoffman
June 1, 1973 - Aug. 18, 2010
Pocatello, Idaho - Todd Allen Hoffman, 37, Pocatello, Idaho, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, after a courageous year-long battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer. Todd was born June 1, 1973, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Robert and Linda McCune Hoffman. He was raised and attended school in Nyssa, Ore., and graduated from Nyssa High School in 1991. He then attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, for one year before serving an LDS Spanish-speaking mission to Riverside, Calif., from 1992 to 1994. He returned to Ricks College after his mission where he met Stephanie Sloan. They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple June 2, 1995. Todd and Stephanie moved to Pocatello, Idaho, in 1996 where they attended school at Idaho State University. Todd graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business management in May of 1999. Shortly after graduation, he began working at Convergys in Pocatello and worked as an operations manager there at the time of his death. He and Stephanie were blessed with three children, Tyler-11, Megan-9 and Braden-5 who were his pride and joy. Todd was a wonderful son, husband and father. He loved spending time outdoors hunting, fishing and camping. Todd was happiest when he was in the mountains. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many callings throughout his lifetime. He loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and had a strong testimony. He loved his wife and children and was an honest, loyal, hard-working and patient man. Todd is survived by his wife, Stephanie Sloan Hoffman; his children, Tyler, Megan and Braden; his parents, Robert and Linda Hoffman, of Aberdeen, Wash.; his sisters, Cindy (Allen) Wilkins, of Deepwater, Mo., Robin (Grant) Stock, of Garden City, Mo., Kerri Hoffman of Aberdeen, Wash., and Gina (Jeff) Seeman, of Tumwater, Wash.; and his grandparents, Donald and Esther Hoffman, of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Joan Schulthies, of Nyssa, Ore. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Clifford McCune and Ray Schulthies. Arrangements are under the direction of Downard Funeral Home.
Beverlee J. Wilson-Swinford

Paradise, Calif. - Beverlee J. Wilson-Swinford, 71, passed away Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, in Boise, Idaho. Services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 6404 Pentz Rd., Paradise, Calif. The final resting-place will be at Paradise Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Chapel of the Pines. She was born Jan. 2, 1939, in Live Oak, Calif. to John Beck and June Elizabeth Fenn. She was a legal secretary, retiring from Vacaville School District, Vacaville, Calif. She worked in Special Education, at Fruitland School District, Fruitland, Idaho and enjoyed immensely working for Bert Osborn Attorney at Law for several years. Beverlee was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. She enjoyed shopping, ceramics, cake decorating, cookbooks, reading, eating out, family and friends. She volunteered for her church and was in the V.I.P.S. Program in Paradise. She is survived by her family Jo Kathleen Hemmert, Jacqueline (Michael) McCall, Paul (Becky) Wilson II, Nancie (Mark) Dumdi, Vickie (Kerry) Nyce, and husband, Bruce T. Swinford; brother, Mick (Jo Marie) Fenn and sister-in-law, Betty (Tiny) Rhoda, 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; baby brother, Dick; and husband, Paul A. Patricia Lee Stone

Payette - Patricia Lee Stone was born in Walla Walla, Wash., on Oct. 1, 1929, to Hiram Woster and Helen Smith. She grew up in Yakima, Wash., graduated from Catholic high school and took a position as a teller in a local bank.
In 1954, she married her favorite race car driver, Sam Stone. Together they raised their three children, Michelle, Kristi and Sam II.
For the first years of their marriage, they followed Sam's job as an inspector for the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. They lived in Washington in the winter, and Bakersfield, Calif., in the summer. During these summers, her children all learned to swim before they could walk.
Sam and Pat moved to Idaho in 1963, where Sam became manager for Payette Valley Fruit Company in Payette. Shortly after, they bought into the company, and Pat worked in the front office until they sold PVF in 1998.
Pat loved traveling with Sam while he represented the Idaho Apple Commission for many years. They traveled throughout the U.S., on both coasts, to Mexico and Hawaii. Pat even was able to realize a lifelong dream of visiting England.
Pat was an avid reader throughout most of her life. She loved finding and giving unique gifts, many of them discovered during her travels. Pat loved interior decorating from a young age, and she especially enjoyed decorating the family home for Christmas.
Most of all, Patricia loved her family.
She is survived by her devoted husband of almost 55 years, Samuel; her children, Michelle (Steve) Lamm, Kristi Stone, Sam II (Tricia) Stone; and grandsons, Sam III, Matt and Eric. She is also survived by several cousins whom she kept in contact with throughout her life.
Her family would like to invite friends and family to an informal reception to honor Patricia at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009, to be held at Memorial Park in Weiser. Please come share your memories.

Donald R. Vickery
June 17, 1920 - May 5, 2009
Nampa - Donald Rex Vickery, age 88, of Nampa, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009, of natural causes in Nampa with his family by his side. A visitation for family and friends will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Fruitland. A vigil service will follow at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Fruitland. Don was born June 17, 1920, to George and Mary Woodruff Vickery in Dairy Creek, Idaho. Don graduated from Cambridge High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII, where he was injured during the Rhineland Campaign and discharged following his recovery.
He returned to New Plymouth, Idaho, where he later met and, on Oct. 21, 1951, married the love of his life, Albertha Herman. They raised six children on a dairy farm outside of New Plymouth. In 1974, Don and Birdie sold the farm to move to Payette, where Don worked for Marshall Fixture Co. They have been retired and made their home in the Nampa/Caldwell area since 1990.
He is survived by his wife, Albertha Vickery, of Nampa; two daughters, Ann (Terry) Shake, of Fruitland, and Lori Vickery, of Nampa; four sons, Dennis (Connie) Vickery, of Harrisville, Utah, Dick (Bev) Vickery, of Willow Creek, Ore., Thomas (Rhonda) Vickery, of Boise, and Jim (Jody) Vickery, of Stansbury Park, Utah; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence (Dorothy) Vickery, of New Plymouth; and a sister, Pearl Meacham, of Provo, Utah.

Kimberly Ann Keele

New Plymouth - Kimberly Ann Keele, 47, of New Plymouth, died unexpectedly at home Saturday, June 20, 2009. She was born in Ontario at HRMC Feb. 1, 1962, to Jim and Darlene Keele, Ontario.
Kim is survived by her parents, Jim and Darlene Keele; son, Isaac Keele; and sister, Shelley Beck, along with niece, Carlie Beck, and nephew, Jensen Beck; and aunt, Gerri Baker (John); two cousins, Angie Buffalin (Jamie) and Scott Stuart; and an uncle, Bill Gutterridge (Ellen).
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the Elks Lodge No. 1690.
