Virginia May Brandon
Sept. 12, 1918 - Dec. 17, 2010
Vale - Virginia May Bogue was born Sept. 12, 1918, in Prairie City, Ore,. to Alva Bogue and May Cardwell Bogue joining brother, Alvan and sister, Murel.
She married Ivan Brandon June 3, 1935, in Cascade, Idaho.
After high school, Virginia and Ivan moved to Irrigon-Boardman area where they farmed.
Their son, Keith, was born in Hermiston and later Kay was born in Pendleton.
They moved to Vale in 1945, and she worked for several years seasonally at Luce at the scalehouse weighing beet trucks.
In 1957, the family moved to Ontario.
Virginia began working at the new Albertson’s store in the Park Plaza as the head saleslady in the bakery.
From 1959 to 1968, she was the receptionist and switchboard operator at Or-Ida Foods.
When H.J. Heinz bought Ore-Ida Foods and the corporate office moved to Boise, Virginia went to work for Grigg Brothers and Butler Realty as the secretary.
On June 1, 1975, Virginia started working for the Payette County Extension Office.
In 1977, she received the “Friend of 4-H” award, the “Community Service” award in 1985, and the “State Recognition” award from the state of Idaho given by Governor Andrus. She retired Oct. 1, 1989.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed working with the public.
Virginia loved to sew, often designing clothing and creating her own patterns.
She would sew all night making Kay something new and then go to work all day.
(Kay said she thought that’s just what mothers did).
At every opportunity, Virginia and Ivan went camping and fishing and they travelled to many national parks in the Pacific Northwest.
After Ivan’s death, Virginia swore by the travel shows on TV and told us daily that she saw the world better than if she had actually been there!
She loved seeing the sights right from her davenport.
Virginia is survived by Keith and Carol Brandon, Payette, Idaho; Kay and Louis Wettstein, Ontario, Ore.; grandchildren, Terry Brandon, Fruitland, James and Blanca Brandon, Payette, Kathy and Johnny Ramirez, Payette, Jay and Pam Wettstein, Ontario, Sue and Ryan Mickelson, Durango, Colo., Lisa and Mike McDowell, Gilbert, Ariz., Ann and Michael McLean, Edwardsville, Ill., Kelly and Lynnette Wettstein, Erie, Colo., and Jill Wettstein, Ontario; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Ivan; brother, Alvan Bogue; sister, Murel Cooley; and granddaughter, Barbara Brandon Rhodes.
On Tuesday, Dec. 21, a viewing will be at Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel in Ontario from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 22, also at Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m.
Following the services, Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery
in Vale, Ore.
Eileen F. Stauff
June 2, 1923 - Dec. 15, 2010
Payette - Eileen passed away peacefully at home in Payette, Dec. 15, 2010, with her family by her side.
Eileen was born in Bovill, Idaho, to Leo and Elizabeth Helmer Guilfoy June 2, 1923.
After graduating from school in Bovill, she attended the University of Idaho in Moscow where she met her husband Oscar.
They were married June 9, 1945, when he came back from England after a tour of combat in B-17 Bombers during World War II.
Eileen enjoyed the life of an Air Force wife until her husband retired.
They then bought a farm north of Payette in 1962, and have resided there since.
Survivors are her beloved husband of 65 years, Oscar; her four children, Brent (Kay) Stauff, Payette, Idaho, Brian (Lyda) Stauff, Eagle, Idaho, Gretchen Harvey, Bend, Ore., Russell (Susan) Stauff, Medford, Ore.; grandchildren, Michael (Stacy) Stauff, Rathdrum, Idaho, Megan (George) Stork, Richland, Wash., Stacy (Mark) Fenton, Burns, Ore., Scott (RoseAnna) Holliday, Twin Falls, Idaho, Peter Stauff, North Bend, Ore., David (Kathleen) Stauff, North Bend, Ore., Keeley Stauff (Carter Freeman), Boise, Idaho, Francisca Montoya Martinez, Cabeza de Torres, Spain, Matt Harvey (Nicole Stothoff), Bend, Ore. and Sarah Stauff, Medford, Ore.; great-grandchildren, Chandlor, Patrick and Evan Stauff, North Bend, Ore., Ruby Stork, Richland, Wash., Tyler and Abbey Fenton, Burns, Ore., Christian and KJ Holliday, Twin Falls, Idaho; two brothers, Tom Guilfoy (Jeannie Jewett), Redding, Calif., Phil (Louise) Guilfoy, Moscow, Idaho and their children.
She has requested memorials to any US Bank location for the Evan Stauff donation account, medical expenses.
At Eileen’s request a funeral service will not be held, there will be a gathering for family and friends to celebrate her life at a later date, to be announced.
Arrangements are under the direction of Idaho Cremation Society.
Lt. Colonel Robert Pearre Bones
June 10, 1937 - Nov. 15, 2010
Garden Valley - Lt Colonel Robert Pearre Bones, 73, Garden Valley, was granted his angel wings on Monday. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Bob had touched throughout his memorable life.
Bob was born June 10, 1937, in Nelscott, Ore., to William and Esther Bones. He graduated from Ontario High school in 1955. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and was an officer for 27 years.
During his career he flew 124 combat missions as a “Night Owl” during Vietnam. Aside from flying, he enjoyed his family, ranching, and rodeos.
He is survived by wife, Bev Bones; daughters, Becky Mounts and husband, Ray, of Stevensville, Mont, Cindy Feasel and husband, Mark of St Regis, Mont., Lori Camphouse and husband, Kieth, of Idaho City, Idaho, Bobbi Davis and husband, Ray of Caldwell, Idaho; and stepson, Richard Hussey and wife, Krista of Ocala, Fla. He has 18 grandchildren who span from Hawaii to Florida.
His family has continued to expand to include 11 great-grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday at the Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel in Payette from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel with graveside services and military honors to follow at Rosedale Memorial Gardens in Payette, Idaho, at 4:45 p.m.
Mildred May Whipple
Sept. 23, 1928 - Dec. 1, 2010
Fruitland - Mildred May Whipple, age 82, was ushered into the presence of her Lord with singing surrounded by her family and friends Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010. Interment will be at 9:30 a.m., Friday at Evergreen Cemetery, Ontario. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Brethren, Fruitland. Mildred was born Sept. 23, 1928, in the Washoe area outside of Payette and Fruitland to Vivian and Merritt Snowberger and joined her dear brother Kenneth and a large extended family.
Mildred led a life of dedicated service as a social worker in many areas encompassing her community, her church, and the thousands of people whose lives she touched through her work. She worked for those causes she passionately believed in for more than 60 years and only reluctantly relinquishing them the last two years of her life.
Mildred was preceded in death by her father, Merritt Snowberger; her mother, Vivian Snowberger; her brother, Kenneth Snowberger; a nephew, David Snowberger; and many dear friends.
She leaves behind three daughters, Karen Wagoner (Kent), of Parma, Dawn Bayes (Donald), of Payette, Lynda Sutton (Bernie), of Fruitland; and four beloved grandchildren, Geoffrey Wagoner (Kristina), of Nampa, Brandy Curtis (Caleb), of Fruitland, Garrett Wagoner, of Boise, and Stephen Sutton, of Fruitland.

Donald P. Bates
May 28, 1928 - Nov. 27, 2010
Ontario - Donald P. Bates was born on May 28, 1928, in Rigby, Idaho, to Solomon Lee and Mary Vernetta ‘Nettie’ Peterson Bates and passed away Nov. 27, 2010, in Ontario, Ore. He was 82 years old.
He was the youngest of nine children. He was raised in Pocatello, Idaho. He attended Idaho State University where he received his Bachelor of Communications and also his Master’s in Education Administration.
He married Beth Sibbett on April 7, 1951, and had one daughter, Loralee (David Crookston). Beth preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 1963. He then married Rebecca ‘Becky’ Lynn Bake Mower on April 10, 1964. She brought into the marriage two children, Natalie Kaye Mower (Forest Aguirre) and Nathan Neil Mower (Carolyn Mower). Together Don and Becky had 11 children, Melanie Anne (Rudy Castillo), Nancy Michelle (David Hyde), Stephanie Dawn Whipple, Karen Leslie (Darren McCabe), Kendal Donn (Sharlee Bates), Kathryn Leigh (Kelly Campbell), Kristie Lynne (Brent Arnold), Shari Jill (Danny Melendez), Nettie Suzanne (Bryce McBride), Jennie Laureen (Garth Woodruff) and Tamara Nicole Bates. Don and Becky divorced in 1999.
Don was given the gift of music and learned to use his voice to bring joy into others’ lives. Bruce Walker once said “He has one of the finest baritone voices I’ve ever heard.” Don passed his gift and love of music onto his children. Don was an English and Drama teacher at Nyssa High School for many years. He resigned in 1983 and sold insurance and was a substitute teacher until he reached retirement age.
Special thanks given to our sisters Nancy, Stephanie, Kathryn and Shari who gave so much of their time and efforts to help care for our dad in the last years of his life and to the Aaron Brook Assisted Living Care Center in Ontario, Ore., where Don lived for the past three years. The staff there often told us he was their favorite resident. Deepest thanks to our mom Becky. We love you mom!
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack, Louis, Harley and Harold; and also by his sisters, Mary Helen, Leta Gladys, and Evelyn Leona.
Don is survived by his sister, Norma; ex-wife, Becky; his 12 children; two step-children; 61 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; along with many of his extended family.
There will be a viewing today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lienkemper chapel in Nyssa (207 Ehrgood Ave). His funeral will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Nyssa LDS Church on Park Ave.
The family will receive friends in the Relief Society room of the Nyssa LDS Church Thursday from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. A family prayer will be held at 2:45 p.m. He will be buried next to his first wife, Beth on Friday at 3 p.m. in Soda Springs, Idaho. Arrangements are under the direction of Lienkaemper Chapel.
Ceceila Marie Cook ‘Cissie’

Vale - Ceceila Marie Cook ‘Cissie’ was born in Ontario at Holy Rosary, to her parents Latson and Maryetta Rodgers.
Cissy was raised in Weiser, Idaho, by her grandmother and several foster homes.
Ceceila took college courses in Boise, Idaho, and Sacramento, Calif. She worked as a singer and in child protective services in California and Alaska.
Cissy moved to Vale, Ore. in 1989 and worked as a flagger. She loved the holidays and cooking big meals.
Cissy is survived by her husband, David; son, Chris; daughters, Sophia, Ann Marie and Amanda; step daughter, Kimberly; several grandchildren; and sister, Carribelle.Ceceila requested no services.
