Kenneth Lyle Steinhaus Sr.

May 4, 1932 - May 30, 2002

Kenneth Lyle Steinhaus Sr., 70, Parma, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at St. Luke's Meridian Medical Center, Meridian, Idaho.

No formal funeral service will be held, as Ken expressed his wish to have all his family and friends gather together to share good food, good memories and tales of time together. A gathering was held June 5 to celebrate Ken's life.

Ken was born May 4, 1932, in Ontario to Frank Lewis Steinhaus and Ruth Adell Davis Steinhaus. He was the eleventh of 12 children; Hazel, Thel, Delbert "Bus," Ruby, Opal, Eva, Raymond, Lois, Dean and Dean's non-surviving twin, and Ken's younger sister, Carol, who is the sole surviving sibling. He moved to the Parma area at a young age and attended the Apple Valley and Parma schools for more than 10 years. He later earned his GED in Parma, knowing he should set a good example for his children to follow.

Ken started work at age 12 and held a wide variety of jobs in his youth including a newspaper route, harvesting fruits and vegetables for many area farmers, working for the C.C. Anderson Co. dry goods and grocery store, and as a general farm hand.
Ken served in the Army from October 1952, to September 1954, training at Camp Roberts, Calif., then serving in Bordeaux, France and the Azores. As an adult, Ken worked for Parma Lumber and Transfer, the Vern Snyder Construction Co., and other businesses.
He also owned and operated a leaf cutter bee business for over 40 years.
At the time of his death he was starting a venture of a fishing lure business.

Ken married Lida Findley. They had five children together, Kenneth Jr., Kathy and her non-surviving twin Karen, Keith and Karla.
Ken later married Faye Lappin Heitz. He was pleased to gain three more sons from this marriage; Mike, Clifton and Randy Heitz.
Ken later married his current wife, Lorrie Griffin Lilly, and completed the family tribe by adding her son, John "J.J." Lilly Jr.
Ken cherished all of his sons and daughters, their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ken never met a stranger, but made many a friend. His home was always open to everyone.
It was a rare trip or family outing of water skiing, hiking, fishing or hunting that did not include a few extra children, friends or family members.

Ken is survived by his wife, Lorrie Steinhaus; his sister, Carol Pringle and her husband Sidney; his children, Ken Steinhaus and wife Valerie, daughter, Kathy Lauchaire, son, Keith Steinhaus and wife Bernadette, daughter, Karla Dugan, son, Mike Heitz, son, Cliff Heitz and wife Nikki, son, Randy Heitz and wife Julie, and son, J.J. Lilly; grandchildren, Dustin and Melanie Steinhaus and their daughter Sami Jo, Heather and Jeff Manzer and their son Kobe, Shane Steinhaus, Elliott Steinhaus, Kelly Jo and Jason Ineck and their son Joseph and one more on the way, Jason Holton and his son Caleb Meyers, Kori Holton, Cody Dugan, Chad Dugan, Lacey Heitz, Amanda Heitz, and Briana Haberman; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

If you would like to make a contribution in Ken's memory he would have been pleased to have it be to any cause that benefits children.
Ken loved roses. His family will be adding to his garden.
In lieu of flowers, if you should choose to, a rose bush from you would be planted as a pleasant reminder to the family of your love and friendship.
