Gordon E. Parsons, 72
Gordon E. Parson, 72, of Riverside, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
He was born April 13, 1938 in Blackfoot, to Ervin and Grace Hoskins Parsons. He attended in Snake River, graduating from Snake River High School in 1956.
He married Pat Wheeler in Blackfoot, Idaho and later divorced. He married Marjorie Goodman in Massachusetts, she preceded him in death in 2004.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Gordon served in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam War. He was stationed in Okinawa.
Gordon worked in farming, owned a trucking business and later owned Parson Electric.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, horses and his dog, Muffy.
He is survived by his children: Troy Parsons, Joseph Parsons, both of Texas, Gordon Parsons, Jr., of Oregon, Vicky (Blair) Belnap, Tanya Parsons, both of Wyoming; brothers, Darrell (Linda) Parsons, of Massachusetts., Val Parsons, of Buhl; sisters, Sharon (Norman) Prince, of Colorado, Donna Jess, of Riverside, JoAnn (Merlin) Anderson, of Nebraska; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; son, Roland and his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2010 at Hawker Funeral Home with Bishop Mark Adams conducting. The family will meet with friends and relatives 12 noon to 1 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
Jessie “Colleen” Fife Gneiting, Age 80
Colleen Gneiting passed away on July 26th at the Bingham Memorial Hospital with family and friends by her side, having fought a courageous battle against the lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, when her loving heart finally gave up.
She was born the second child of eleven to Aaron and Jessie Miller Fife on the December 1, 1927 in Idaho Falls. Her family later moved to the Lewisville area and then on to the Menan area where she became the head cheerleader of Midway High School. While in high school she fell in love with Thayne Gneiting - member of her rival school’s basketball team. He became her lifetime partner when they married June 1, 1946, before he was shipped out to Saipan with the Navy during World War II. She moved back home with her family during their separation of 18 months. They were later sealed for eternity in the Idaho Falls temple on November 7, 1948. They had five children, two of which passed on before her. Farming took Thayne and Colleen to Marsing, Idaho, for two years and then back to Blackfoot, where they spent most of their lives raising their family in the Groveland. In her later years, Colleen and Thayne began spending their winters in St. George where they made lots of new friends.
Colleen spent much of her life in the service of her community, family, and friends. Her devotion to her son, Ricky, during his young fight with bone cancer was exceptionally admirable. He lost that fight at age 12.
While her children were in school she held the position of PTA president of the Junior High. She also was also be fondly remembered for working for the clothing store, Blocks, during this time. She then made her mind up to study and obtain her real estate license and soon went to work for Remy-Johnson Realty and then Western Reality. She was also a fantastic cook. Her hobbies include gardening, camping/fishing with her family, shopping, traveling, and spoiling her 19 grandchildren.
Colleen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions in the church to include those in Primary, Young Women, the ward choir, chorister, and as the ward organist. She loved music and taught herself to play the piano, organ, and harmonica.
Colleen is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Thayne Richard Gneiting, her children Trudy (Dean) Kirkpatrick of Blackfoot, Clint (Valorie) Gneiting of Moreland, and Terese Gneiting Gibson of Blackfoot, two sisters Glenda (Vern) Kidwell of Idaho Falls and Karen (Tom) Jenson of Rigby and seven brothers Aaron (Cecilia) Fife of Rigby, Dwayne (Lida) Fife of Twin Falls, Kenneth (Dorothy) of Idaho Falls, Roy (Helen) Fife of Idaho Falls, Darwin (Marilyn) Fife of Rexburg, Ronald ( Sheila) Fife of Parker, and Paul (Cheryl) Fife of Idaho Falls, 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Zane Richard (Ricky) Gneiting, and Bradley Gneiting (Joanne Gneiting Henderson), and her sister Eldora (Veldon) Miller of Iona.
She will be dearly missed by all the lives that she loved and touched.
Funeral services will be conducted by Bishop Rob Wray. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 31, at the Northwest LDS Stake Center at 95 N 740 W, Blackfoot, Idaho.
The family will meet with family and friends Wednesday, July 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home and Thursday morning before the service from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Northwest Stake Center. Burial will be in the Groveland Cemetery
under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot.
Alfred Ewing Mitchell, 82
Alfred Ewing Mitchell, 82, of Blackfoot, Idaho, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at the home of his son, Ray E. Mitchell.
Born in Akron, Colorado, June 11, 1927, he was the fourth child of Ula Ewing “Hap” and Millie Mitchell. At a young age the family moved to Loveland, Colorado, where he was raised.
After a one year post-war stint in the Navy, he used his GI Bill to serve an apprenticeship in woodworking and furniture building with Rocky Mountain Furniture of Loveland, Colorado.
During these years, he met and married his lifelong wife, May Iris Wells. Last July 4th was their 61st anniversary.
His career was focused on woodworking and construction. He retired from Colorado State University Physical Plant Services as a cabinet maker in 1992.
He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, May Iris; sons, Jack G. (Darlene) Mitchell of Aurora, Colorado, Thomas E. (Kathy) Mitchell of Blackfoot and Ray (Ginger) Mitchell of Blackfoot; sisters, Esther Hartman and Georgia (Frank) Tomson of Loveland, Colorado; brothers, Robert (Janet) Mitchell of Greeley Colorado, Allen Lee (Kitty) Mitchell of Jacksonville, Florida and Harold (Grace) Mitchell of Lakeside, Illinois; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Pamela, Brooke, Davy, Sarah, Chad, Tammy and Angela; and 17 great grandchildren.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Hap and Millie Mitchell; his youngest sister, Wilma Askey; and his youngest grandson, Casey Lee Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. Family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
William “Billy” John Moss, 54
William “Billy” John Moss, 54, of Fort Hall, Idaho passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Bingham Memorial Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Blackfoot.
Billy was born January 31, 1956 in Blackfoot, Idaho to John Henry Moss and Phyllis Catherine Moss. He attended school at Fort Hall Elementary. His family relocated to Warm Springs, Oregon where he attended school and graduated from Madras High School in 1974.
He was involved in several sports while in high school. He was captain of his football team his Senior year, he was also prep all American football player. He placed 3rd in state wrestling. He also played golf and baseball. After high school he attended Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon.
Billy married his high school sweetheart, Cecilia Annette Webb . They had two children, Jason John Sea Brook Moss and Chelsey Summer Moss. They later divorced.
Billy worked for the Shoshone Bannock Tribe Roads Department until he was involved in a motor vehicle pedestrian accident, and he then attended school at Ricks College, and also attended ISU Vocational Training and Electronics. He then started his career at Sho-Ban Gaming as the Bingo Inventory Manager. He was one of the original employees that helped get things started. He worked at gaming for 14 years, starting in May 1990. While at Sho-Ban Gaming he was also instrumental in establishing Native Fireworks.
While working at gaming he met and married Destiney Evening in 1994. They later divorced and had one son, Evan Bill Evening-Moss.
He enjoyed many outdoor activities, hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, gardening, softball and going to his sons football games. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Billy is survived by his children, Jason (April) Moss of Yakima, Washington, Chelsey Moss of Lyle, Washington and Evan Evening-Moss of Fort Hall, Idaho; mother, Phyllis Moss of Fort Hall; sisters, Betty Jean Moss, Karen Loa (Nathan) Small and Diane Phyllis Moss all of Fort Hall; brothers, Daniel Leroy (Tula) Moss and Robert Henry (Elizabeth) Moss both of Fort Hall, Idaho; granddaughters, Ahleese Teton and Piper Moss-Hicks; grandsons, Jaiton Evening-Moss, Preston Adams Moss, Isaak Julian Moss and Francis Sol Hicks. He also had a foster son, Markus Sonny Moss.
Billy is preceded in death by his father, John Moss; and grandparents, Henry John Moss and Elsie Ellen Truchot.
Family will meet with friends and relatives from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Hawker Funeral Home. Video and open mic will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. Billy will be taken to his mother, Phyllis Moss’s residence on West Ferry Butte/Riverton Road on Monday, January 10, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for prayer and gathering. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2011 at Grove City Cemetery
in Blackfoot, where Jalen T. Small will be playing Amazing Grace on the flute.
Bernard B. Schroeder, 78
Our father, Bernard Bruno Gregory Schroeder was called home to rest with the Lord on Friday, August 14, 2009 at the age of 78. Bernard, or “Bernie” as many friends knew him, was born on November 17, 1930, the oldest of five children born to Leo and Agnes Neider Schroeder, both German immigrants.
Dad was raised on farms in and around Blackfoot. He began his education at St. Margaret’s parochial school as a little boarder speaking only German, but developed confidence under the care of the nuns at St. Margaret’s. He graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1949. While in high school he was active in many sports, his love was football and boxing. He also had a love for music and took choir. These gifts were later passed on to his children. He was active in the National Guard from 1949 to 1959.
On August 5, 1954, Dad married one of little sister’s friends, Shirley Kamphaus. Dad passed away only nine days after their 55th wedding anniversary. Mom was the love of his life; he loved her then and he lovers her this very day. Over the next eight years, Mom and Dad were joined by their loving children, Agnes, Mary, and Joe.
Dad always carried a farm-based, German work ethic. He worked several jobs after high school, including writing sports stories for the Blackfoot News, and serving as a letter carrier for the post office. Later in the 1950's, Dad began working at the Idaho National Laboratory. In the 1960's, Dad bought and operated the Blackfoot Greenhouse. While the greenhouse ultimately failed as a business, Dad maintained his love of gardening throughout his life, tending to his beautiful yard, with over 100 rose bushes, while winning many awards for his flowers and vegetables at the Eastern Idaho State Fair.
Despite the failure of the greenhouse, Dad could not be kept down and he simply worked twice as hard, returning to employment at the Idaho National Laboratory during the day while attending night school to obtain a degree from the University of Idaho. Ultimately, Dad rose to upper management positions with Morrison Knudsen at the Site, retiring in 1994.
Dad was very much a lover and a loyalist throughout his life. He was loyal to and loved his family, utilizing his vacation time to take them on wonderful vacations every summer. He had a special love for his grandchildren, Tommy, Leo, and Delaney and was with them whenever he could. He loved his extended family, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He honored his parents and his German heritage. Dad was loyal to Blackfoot, living there his entire life. He coached its Little League teams, grid kid teams, ran for school board, and followed Blackfoot High School sports. He was loyal to the local university, Idaho State, supporting the school and its sports teams. Of all schools, Dad most loved all things Notre Dame.
But more than all, Dad was loyal to and loved his faith as a devout Catholic and member of St. Bernard’s Parish. Dad served St. Bernard’s over the years in many roles from assisting with parts of the liturgy, to being liturgy chairman and serving as the parish counsel president. From his love and loyalty to the Church,Dad passed on to us children our most treasured gift, a deep and enduring faith.
Dad is survived by his wife, Shirley, daughter, Agnes (Heinz) Schreier, daughter Mary Schroeder, all of Blackfoot, and his son, Joe (Sherry) Schroeder, of Kennewick, WA; his grandson, Tommy Schreier and Leo Schroeder, and his granddaughter, Delaney Schroeder. He is also survived by his brother, Bert (Janet) Schroeder, his sisters, Rosemary (David) Jones and Molly (Jack) Domeier, his sister-in-law, Judy Schroeder, and 16 nieces and nephews.
Dad was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Agnes Schroeder, brother Joe and two infant brothers, Anthony and Leo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 584 W. Sexton, Blackfoot. A Rosary Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, August 17, 2009 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, with a visitation immediately following until 9:00 p.m.
Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery. Military rites will be presented by the American Legion Stewart Hoover Post #23.

Echo Plumme Beasley, 11
Echo Plumme Beasley, 11, of Fort Hall, Idaho passed away July 2, 2009 at her home.
Echo was born January 9, 1998 to Veronica Ann Appenay and Jake William Beasley in Pocatello, Idaho. Echo was a Lemhi Shoshone and a descendant of great grandparents Dustin and Lena M. Stone, great great grandparents Grant Martin and Myrtle Calico Nevada, John and Susan Grant-Stone, Eagle Eye, Captain Jack and Johnnie Dootsap Stone who were Western Shoshone.
Echo just finished 5th grade. She attended Tyhee Elementary School and had just transferred to Fort Hall to finish the school year. She spent her entire life in Ross Fork Creek.
Echo was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
In her free time, Echo enjoyed hip-hop dancing, roller skating, swimming, cheerleading, gymnastics, jumping on the trampoline, traveling, camping, fishing, spending time with her friends, especially her best friend Helena Ramirez, and being with her family.
Echo is survived by her parents, Jake Beasley of Orofino, Idaho and Veronica Appenay of Pocatello, Idaho; brother, Trevor J.W. Beasley, of Pocatello; sisters, Raven A. Beasley, Brodie A. Beasley and Paige C. Beasley all of Pocatello; grandparents, Casper (Billie) Appenay of Pocatello, Dennis Broncho of Fort Hall, William Sr. (Elena) Beasley of Fort Hall; great grandma, Wilma Eagle of Fort Hall; great grandpa Noel Beasley of Fort Hall; great aunt and uncle Tommy and Debra Jay, cousin Olivia Jay, and other numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Echo is preceded in death by her infant brother, Sky Beasley; infant sister, Vanessa Beasley; grandmother, Sharon S. Beasley; and great grandparents, Calvin and Madzina Appenay.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2009 at the Fort Hall LDS Church, with President J.O. Cotant, conducting. Family will meet with friends and relatives from 10:00 a.m. Sunday, July 5, 2009 until Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the home of her grandparents Casper and Billie Appenay on Ross Fork Creek and Wheeler Roads. Interment will follow the services at the Mission Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.
