Raymond Jay Dawson, 65
Raymond Jay Dawson, 65, of Rigby, passed away January 8, 2009, at 5:35 a.m. surrounded by his loving family.
Ray was born June 8, 1943 to Glenn and Mabel Dawson, second of five children.
He graduated from Snake River High School and attended Utah State University. During his life, Ray moved many times, but everywhere he lived he saw opportunities to make new friends.
Ray met his sweetheart Bonnie Pearl Murdock in seventh grade and later married her, after serving a faithful LDS mission to California. Ray and Bonnie were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on September 18, 1964.
He worked in many different occupational fields, but his favorite love was farming, ranching and animals.
Ray was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served faithfully in many callings, including the Bishopric, High Priest Group Leader, Stake Missionary, Stake Family History Consultant, and many, many levels of scouting, which he loved.
Ray loved people, horses, scouting, a good western book or movie, family history, Dutch oven cooking and being with his family, while continually setting an example of testimony, integrity and righteous living. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
Ray is survived by his wife, Bonnie; eight sons, Darin (Gina) Dawson, Brett (Susie) Dawson, Corey (Adrienne) Dawson, Glenn (Amy) Dawson, Thayne (Kiama) Dawson, Raylon Dawson, Dalin Dawson, Derek (Mary) Dawson, and three daughters, Ramona (Curtis) Miller, Sheri (Trent) Beebe, and Raylene (Scott) Job; his brother, Merle (JoAnn) Dawson; sisters, Louise (Ronnie) Crow and Ellen (Rick) Thompson; and 31 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Glenna Jean Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 12, 2009 at the Garfield Church House, 71 N. 3200 E. in Rigby at 11:00 a.m. Family will meet with friends and relatives from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot, and again prior to services on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Garfield Church House. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Raymond Dawson Memorial Fund, at Wells Fargo Bank to help with funeral expenses.
Interment will be held 3:00 p.m., January 12, 2009 at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
Keith M. Elison, 88
Keith M. Elison, 88, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the home of his son, Jeffry Elison.
Keith was born December 29, 1920 to Orson Stanley Elison and Maude Carson Elison in Groveland, Idaho. He was raised in Blackfoot, attending local schools, graduating from Blackfoot High School.
On June 29, 1941, Keith married his beautiful bride, Grace Irene “Kit” Smith. Together they had three sons and a daughter.
Keith was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, dedicating his service to lifelong leadership in the Church, including the callings of Bishop, Stake President, and Regional Representative.
Keith was a well known in Blackfoot as an insurance agent. He was in the insurance business for 31 years.
Keith is survived by his sons, Jimmy Keith (Gayle) Elison, of Blackfoot, Idaho, Rand M. Elison, of Farmington, Utah, and Jeffry (Michele Smith) Elison, of Blackfoot, Idaho; daughter, Konnie Linn (Samuel) Gardner, of Salmon, Idaho; brothers, Lamar Elison, of St. George, Utah, Don Elison, of Blackfoot, Idaho, Garth Elison, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Shirl Elison, of Blackfoot, Idaho; sister, Ora Latimor, of St. George, Utah; 22 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.
Keith is preceded in death by is wife, Kit; his parents; and one sister, Shirlene Lauder.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the East LDS Stake Center, with Bishop Von Kunz conducting. Family will meet with friends and relatives on Friday, January 9, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. Internment will follow the service at the Grove City Cemetery.
Norman Davis Harris, 86
Norman Davis Harris, 86, of Idaho Falls, passed away Friday, January 7, 2011 at the Monticello in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
He was born September 21, 1924 in Pocatello, Idaho to Orville W. and Hazel Davis Harris.
He attended schools in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School. After serving in the Army in France and Germany during World War II he settled in Moreland.
In 1948, he married Dona Lue Merrill in Logan LDS Temple. She preceded him in death in 1958. He then married Melba Norwood on September 25, 1959. They were later divorced. He also was married for a time to June Johnson.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Norman was a dairy farmer and owned a farm in Moreland and in 1963 he moved to Grant, Idaho where he purchased another farm.
He loved music, traveling, spending time in the mountains and spending time with his family. He was very familiar with the areas he could travel to and still be home in time to do the evening milking.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Denise Harris Heniger of Calgary, Alberta Canada, son, Frank Samargis of Spokane, Washington, daughters, Nancy Harris of Salt Lake City, Utah, Debbie (Kenny) Shepherd of Tucson, Arizona, Julie (Alvin) Turner of Tucson, Arizona, Lori (Joey) Arce-Torres of Lincoln City, Oregon; sisters, Ann Rice of Salt Lake City, UT; 13 grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dona Lue, daughter, Rita Lue, son, Rhett Davis Harris, brothers, Darwin and Mert and sisters, Maude and Shirley.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, Idaho.
The family will meet with friends from 12:00-12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Military rites will take place at the funeral home due to inclement weather, burial in the Moreland Cemetery
will follow.
Ray H. Kimmel, 78
Ray Harold Kimmel, 78, of Blackfoot, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at his home following an extended illness.
He was born January 24, 1931 in New York City, New York to Elmer Harold and Olive Vivian Riggs Kimmel.
Ray attended James Johns Grade School in Portland, Oregon.
On November 13, 1957, he married Violet Malinda Marchant Barton in Stevenson, Washington. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 23, 1968.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as assistant Boy Scout leader, Elder’s quorum president and employment specialist. He and his wife served a mission to Saskatchewan, Canada and Cove Fort, Utah.
Ray drove truck with his wife for many years as team drivers. They also ran their own mini-market in the Maupin, Oregon area.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports(especially Softball). At the age of 65, he learned to fly a plane.
He is survived by his wife, Violet of Blackfoot; children, Linda (Russ) Lingenfelter of Rapid City, SD, Dennis Kimmel of Portland, OR, David “Butch”(Tammy) Kimmel of Blackfoot, ID, Diana (David) Barton of Vancouver, WA, Duane Kimmel of Portland, OR, Daniel Kimmel of Independence, OR; brother, Calvin (Norene) Kimmel of Vancouver, WA; sister, Louise Speyre of Oregon; eight grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Bonnie Edwards.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, ID. The family will meet with family and friends for one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery.
Ruth Lott Kirkham, 95
Ruth Lott Kirkham passed away Friday morning, January 30, 2009 at the Bingham Memorial Hospital. She was born to LeRoy Evans Lott and Agnes Adamson Lott, October 17, 1913, in Lehi, Utah.
Ruth was the youngest of six children in a family that valued and emphasized the importance of education. After high school, in the fall of 1932, she enrolled in nursing school, a three year course at the LDS hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, and lived in the hospital during all three years except for an annual two weeks vacation. After receiving her Registered Nurse certification through graduation, she worked at the Lehi hospital.
On March 26, 1936 she married Reed Kirkham. The first few years of their lives were spent in Lehi and then Provo, Utah. In 1945 she gave up her nursing career to move to Blackfoot, Idaho and establish with her husband an auto parts store located at 7 NW Main Street.
That single store eventually grew into a multi-state chain of automotive stores under the name of Kirkham Auto Parts.
With the assistance of her brother-in-law, she became an experienced bookkeeper and did the entire comptroller work for the automotive chain for the next 55 years. Her children, sons, Mike and Jim Kirkham and daughter Lynda Sponenburgh along with her grandchildren and great grandchildren were of the utmost importance to her. She placed such a high priority on family that she did all the bookkeeping for the business in her home.
In their later years she and her husband used their imagination and creativity to teach their posterity the importance of self reliance, a deep love of this country, and consideration for others.
Ruth is survived by three children, Mike (Judy) Kirkham of Blackfoot, Jim (Marilyn) Kirkham of Boise, and Lynda (Bill) Sponenburgh of Blackfoot; ten grandchildren and19 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Reed Kirkham; three brothers, Merrill Lott, Vaness Lott, Peter Lott and two sisters, Ora (Irvin) Fox, Evelyn (Fay) Evans.
Funeral services will be held at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2009. The family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2009 and again for one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery.
Grant Gerald Mecham, 63
Grant Gerald Mecham, passed away suddenly on January 19, 2011.
Grant was born June 17, 1947, to Carl and Lucille Mecham in Moab, UT where he spent the first few years of his life. The family then moved to a ranch in Montana then later moved to Missoula and later to Seeley Lake where he graduated from Seeley Swan High School. He served an LDS mission in the Southwest Indian mission.
After returning from his mission, he attended Ricks College where he met the love of his life and eternal companion, Margie Wilde. They were married July 25, 1969, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They raised their four children in Shelley, ID.
Grant began working at the R.T. French Company, which is now Basic American, in September of 1974. He worked there until his passing.
He dearly loved his family and served them until the very end. He was completely selfless. He enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, NASCAR, fishing, cooking and playing with his grandchildren. There was always a warm bear hug to be found in Grants arms. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years Margie; sons, Bruce "Cori" (Laura) of Hermiston, OR; Travis (Rebecca) of Kuna, ID; Christopher (Amanda) of Idaho Falls, ID and daughter Tauna (Don) of Idaho Falls, ID; grandsons Kayden, Tyrell, and a new one in March; granddaughters Breckyn, Lacey, Jadelyn, Bryleigh, Braylin, Skyler, Kaia, and Natalie; his brothers Charles, Joseph, Robert and one sister, Susan; numerous nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Donald and VIla Wilde; one daughter by heart, Angela Hill and one son by heart, Lee Frogner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one niece, one nephew, and one daughter by heart.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 22 at Lincoln 1st Ward LDS Chapel at 2545 Mesa St. in Idaho Falls under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home. The viewing for family and friends will be for 1 hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery
in Shelley, ID.
