Geraldine Taylor Fielding
ISLAND PARK — “Nana” Taylor Fielding, 81, died Monday, March 8, 2010 at McKay-Dee Hospital after a brief and sudden illness.
She was born Nov. 8, 1928 in Blackfoot Idaho, the second child of Eli Marshal and Bessie Groom Taylor. She was educated in Idaho and graduated from Idaho Falls High School.
On January 16, 1946, she married Wilbur F. Sully in Dillon, Montana. They were later divorced. On June 4, 1948, she married Arthur P. Fielding in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They were later divorced.
Geraldine returned to college at age 38, graduating from Weber State University with a Bachelor’s degree, and then she earned a master’s degree from Utah State University. She worked at Hill Air Force Base in Military Personnel, Production Management and Training, retiring with 30 years of service.
She was a member of the L.D.S. Church, and was always involved with music, either as organist or children’s chorister. Geraldine was a member of the National League of American Penwomen, receiving several awards for her stories. She was a prolific author of children’s stories and was published in “The Friend” and “Hopscotch” magazines. She was a member of the World Affairs Chapter of General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Senior Friends of Ogden Regional Medical Center and South Ogden Singers.
Called “The Cane Lady,” and owner of “The Chair Affair,” she did woven cane in antique chairs. She received a Utah State Historical Society heritage award for demonstrating the caning process at elementary schools, and was part of the Fort Buenaventura Pioneer Skills Fair for more than 20 years. She taught caning classes at the Eccles Community Art Center, and appeared in craft shows at Pond’s Lodge in Island Park, and at shows in Brigham City, Utah, and Salmon, Idaho.
Her children and her grandchildren were her great love and they spent many happy times at “The Cabin” in Island Park, where she led sing-alongs around the campfire playing the accordion. One of Geraldine's favorite sayings was "If you're lucky enough to have a cabin in the woods, you're lucky enough!" She spent every summer in Island Park with her dogs, Molly the Scottie and then Chelsea the Cairn terrier as her constant companions. She passed the time caning chairs, listening to books on tape and knitting hats for the annual yard sale and blankets for Project Linus. She started the famous Luke Lane Yard Sale that became an annual Fourth of July tradition for her family. The family is planning to hold the last yard sale this Fourth of July weekend in memory of Geraldine.
Geraldine loved to travel and she liked to say she had enjoyed borscht in Russia, Peking duck in China, and kippers in Australia. She also visited Mexico, Spain, Portugal, England, Ireland, Greece and Italy.
She is survived by her children, Steven (Joanne) Fielding of South Ogden, Utah, Debra (Ray) Strong of Hooper, Utah, and Kevin (Pam) Fielding of West Point, Utah. She has 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Bonnie.
The family thanks the members of the Roy City Fire Department for their quick response and the staff of McKay-Dee Hospital for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Bertha Eccles Community Arts Center in Geraldine’s name.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 12, 2010, with burial in the Roy, Utah City Cemetery.
Edward William Dorcheus
Edward William Dorcheus, beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away on Saturday May 1, 2010. He was 80 years old. Bill is survived by his wife, Kyong Won Dorcheus, his daughter Seraphim Reycraft, his brother Samuel Dorcheus, his son-in-law Tom Reycraft, and his grandchildren, Sera Y., William, Meta, and Thaddeus.
Edward William, known as Bill, was born in Ashton, Idaho, on October 11, 1929, to Edward William Dorcheus Sr. and Fern Etta Bailey Dorcheus. Bill attended public schools in Ashton and Idaho Falls. As a boy in Ashton during the Great Depression, Bill worked at a variety of jobs, including positions as a butcher's assistant, mowing lawns, picking potatoes, and various jobs on his uncle's farm. Bill graduated from Ashton High School in 1947. Bill was an active member of the Ashton community, working as a scoutmaster for the local American Legion Club and as a volunteer fireman. In 1958, Bill graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in accounting.
Bill was an accomplished CPA who spent four years in South Korea and Japan as a US Army auditor. During this time, he met his wife of 43 years, Kyong Won Dorcheus. In 1967, Bill, Kyong Won, and their daughter, Seraphim, moved to Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The Dorcheus family eventually settled in Fairfax, VA, where they lived for 34 years. During this period, Bill assumed several senior auditor positions with the Army Audit Agency headquarters and what is now the Federal Energy Department in Washington, DC. Bill retired in 1988 as the Director of Auditors of the Federal Department of Transportation. In 2007, Bill and Kay moved to Pelham, NY, where they were delighted to spend nearly every day with Seraphim and her family.
Bill was a family man who will always be remembered for his remarkable patience, fairness, and kindness. He was also an accomplished craftsman, chef, and Redskins fan. Bill will be dearly missed.
A memorial service was held on May 14 at Christ Church in Pelham Manor, NY. The interment was held on May 18 at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bill's name may be directed to the Harlem Academy (www.harlemacademy.org).
JOSEPH F. LADEN SR.
Las Vegas, NV -- Joseph F. Laden, Sr., 74, longtime Albany resident, died on Thursday, March 5, 1998 in a Las Vegas hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Laden was born in Albany, NY and graduated from Christian Brothers Academy and Siena College. He served overseas in the 8th Corps of the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He married Elizabeth Josephine Patterson in Albany, on December 28, 1946.
The couple lived in Albany until his retirement from the Albany Housing Authority in 1990, having served as the Executive Director there for 17 years. During his tenure, he returned that agency to solvency from its near bankrupt status, at his appointment. He led a successful effort to transform the deteriorating homes of thousands of Albany's poorest residents into a model for the public housing industry, while bringing more than $40 milion dollars of federal aid into his home city. He was a national leader in his field, having represented the industry before numerous committees of the House and Senate, co-founding the Washington based Public Housing Authorities Directors Association, providing leadership in the formation of public policy on lead-based paint and other environmetnal hazards in housing and furthering the cause of quality of life for eldery and handicapped persons.
As a founder and former chairman of the board of the Housing Authority Insurance Company, now the largest captive insurer in the United States, he was instrumental in providing viable alternatives to the excessive premiums and market volatility of traditional insurers.
Mr. Laden was appointed by New York governors, Carey and Cuomo, to serve on policy and planning committees for the elderly and the homeless, and by the United States Congress to its Research and Advisory Committee for the study of housing needs, nationwide. Prior to the Housing Authority, he began his distinguished career in public service at the Albany Urban Renewal and Social Service agencies.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Laden and Frances Hickey Laden and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife; four children, two sons, Joseph Jr. (wife Kathleen) and Gregory (wife Martha); two daughters, Elizabeth (husband John Losch) and Bunny (husband Glen Gould); six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Christ the King Catholic Community in Las Vegas at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 9. Cremation took place in Palm Mortuary in Las Vegas. Quantilla Rae Jockumsen
Quantilla Rae Jockumsen, our wife, mother, grandma, sister, daughter and friend, left us for her better place, pain free on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. She was sure a fighter, battling cancer for the last eight months demonstrating what a true fighter she truly was.
She was born in Rigby to George and DeEsta. She spent her younger years in Montana, Salmon, and many surrounding places. She worked for many years at Nonpareil in Blackfoot where she met her soulmate, her riding companion and her best friend, Ted. They were later married on March 18, 2000.
While employed at Nonpareil, she met many lifelong friends. In 1998 she accepted a job at Monsanto in Soda Springs, where she again met many new friends and loved her job.
Her love for motorcycles started at a very young age. On a hot sunny day, it was sure she and Ted would be out riding their bikes. She made her home in Inkom where many beautiful memories were made. They had three children and many of the neighborhood kids, and was known as the neighborhood mom. She made her children her whole life. She also had 12 grandchildren which she absolutely adored and would do anything for. Her grandbabies loved their grandmother Quan.
Quan sure loved her life as “Biker Trash.”
Quan was preceded in death by her uncle, Milan Hames, who also died of cancer; grandfather Vernal Hames; grandmother Luella Mae Hames; and grandmother Wilma Warren. She is survived by her husband, Ted of Inkom; children, Shanda Ford (Jon) Bullock, Michael Green (Kassie Green), Jennifer Green (Miky Ybarra); parents, George T. Hames (Janis Hames) - Shotgun cabin owners, DeEsta Cornwall (Ray Cornwall); one sister, Connie Beasley (Jim Beasley); two brothers, Allen Hames (Michelle Hames), Lee Hames (Dawn Hames); as well as many extended family members.
A funeral was held at the Downard Funeral Home in Pocatello. Internment was in Stevensville, Montana. Friends who wish may make donations in her memory at the Pocatello Cancer Center to help care for others who are struggling with cancer. Greg Anderson
Gregory T. Anderson, 44, of Boise, died Thursday, June 17 at a local hospital, of complications from asthma.
Greg was born in 1965 in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
He then moved to Boise, where he resided and attended school.
He was a very special grandson to Dee Dee and Papa.
He liked to go fishing and he and his daughter Lexi would fish together.
His other interests were reading and drawing and going to the desert to look for Indian artifacts.
He adored his two daughters, Alexis and Anisty.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Wise, his adopted father, Phil Anderson, and Grandpa Joe Davidson.
He is survived by his mother, Olivia Anderson of Panama, his brother Eric and wife Sarah, his brother Brent, and his grandmother Maxine Davidson.
His special gift to others was his mischievous sense of humor.
We will miss you Greg. May you rest in peace.
Gladys L. Hensley dies
Spent many summer days on Hammer Lane in Shotgun
IDAHO FALLS — Gladys L. Hensley, 92, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Mt. Vernon Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls Idaho.
She was born December 7, 1917, in Dubois, to Max E. Hohman and Cora Bessinger.
She attended school in Rigby and Dubois, graduating from Dubois High School in 1935.
She later graduated from Kinsman Business College.
Gladys married Clarence Hensley in 1942; he passed away in 1961.
She later married Floyd Hensley in 1964.
She worked for the U.S. Experiment Station for 30 years as a statistical clerk, retiring in 1974.
She then worked in the family businesses, A-1 Automatic Transmission and Floyd's Transmission Parts for the next 20 years.
After retiring the second time, Gladys enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Arizona, gardening, and spending time with family and friends at the family property on Hammer Lane in Shotgun, Island Park.
She was very active with the Rebekahs and Eastern Star.
She was always willing to try new activities, including riding four-wheelers and riding on the back of a motorcycle at age 90.
She was an excellent cook and took pride in preparing meals for her family, especially her sourdough pancakes and rolls.
Her greatest joy was her family.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Floyd; son, Earl (Debbie); four granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren; sister, Louise (Lloyd), Citrus Heights, Calif.; brother, Frank (Judy), Cameron Park, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Virgil and Robert, and sister, Lorraine.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2001, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls, with Chaplin Marv Eld officiating. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery
in Idaho Falls.
A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday.
Bill Bolland
ASHTON — Fred William “Bill” Bolland, 81, of Ashton, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at his daughter’s home of natural causes.
He was born September 28, 1928, in Squirrel to Henry Martin and Frieda Mary Luetjen Bolland.
He attended Kelly School #6 in Squirrel and then Ashton High School.
He married Anna Margaret Ivey on May 4, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashton.
They made their home in Ashton.
Margaret died October 26, 2009.
He was a member of Ashton Christian Fellowship and was serving as Head Elder.
He taught Bible study in St. Anthony.
He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He brought many people to faith and salvation in Jesus.
He worked for Fremont County as a heavy equipment operator and then later was a foreman for the State of Idaho Transportation Department. He also farmed for a while in the 1950's with his brothers Bud and Paul.
He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol as a young man.
He enjoyed boating, skiing, waterskiing, and fishing.
He lived his life to the fullest and as a witness to the Savior’s love for mankind.
He is survived by his daughter Linda (Ken) Strawn of Ashton, son Dale (Joni) Bolland of Vallejo, California; sister Rosemarie (Tom) Jacobsen and brother John Bolland both of Ashton; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Herbert, Paul, Henry “Bud” Bolland, and sister Dorothy Bolland.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6 at Ashton Christian Fellowship, 784 Baker Road, with Pastor Rich Laux officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, and Tuesday at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
Burial will be in the Squirrel Cemetery.
